Update A600FN device with A600P firmware - Samsung Galaxy A6 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I have a Galaxy A6 (A600FN) that I want to upgrade/convert to an A600P to be able to test some third party software. From what I can tell the hardware on the two devices is the same so is it possible to use the A600P firmware to convert the A600FN?
I have just tried one of the patched versions of ODIN and that gives me an error with regards to could not repartition the device. Do I just need to obtain the A600P PIT file or is this something that is just not possible?
Thanks for any advice

You can try to use tool like ClassyKitchen to make any stock firmware flashable through custom recovery.

[Q] how do i upgrade my firmware

i've searched for answers on here on how to upgrade/flash new firmware whatever and i cant seem to find anything. if someone could tell me what to do and run me through the steps that would be awesome. i have samsung drivers installed, net.4 installed phone is rooted.
also how come on the website for the firmware it says "if your from the americas dont flash" does that mean anything.
i heard someone say their getting way better battery life with jh3 firmware, anybody else seeing this
Follow the instructions on these two links to flash to JH3. The fist link is for JH2, but the directions still work. Just download the JH3 firmware.

This page has all the files you need:
samsung-firmwares.com/i897.htm
You need the firmware file, the PIT file, and Odin. The links for all of that is on the above page. The PIT file and Odin are under the section called "Flash Tools."
Once you've restored & upgraded, you can root or whatever you like. I'm a fan of SuperRooterExtreme, which does a whole bunch of things for you in one package.

Please check the first few posts of the threads from where you downloaded the ROM's, they usually give a very detailed instructions. On a thread like THIS, there are a lot of chances that people will only give THAT part THAT they think is important.
yo
there is only 1 file you set in odin as "PDA" file, use the "803 pit" file and flash as normal..
good luck

The top sticky for flashing a custom ROM has a broken link to the ODIN file I need to download. Do you guys know where I can find it now?
Try posting in the Q&A section, I'm not at my home computer right now but if your question still isn't answered by 4:00 I'll give you my link.

Do not post questions in the Development forum. That is why there is a Q&A forum.
If your phone has the 3-button issue, use this one. Otherwise, use this one.
The links in both of those threads should be active.
I have never rooted or flashed my Cappy, so I'm still on stock 2.1. Also, I have never had any issues with the 3 buttons on my device, but briefly looking at the "3-button issue" thread, that appears to be a problem only with people who have already flashed their phones, not anyone with a stock unit. So, if I wanted to root/flash my phone for the first time using the sticky thread tutorial, I would want to use the ODIN link in this thread: "[STOCK ROM] Odin3 One-Click Downloader and Drivers CAPTIVATE ONLY".

Yes, you will want to use the one from the second thread that I posted. Also, look underneath your battery. There will be a four number code (1007, 1008, etc.). What's the code on yours?
between the S/N and SKU the 4 digit number is: 1012, thena short bar code, then it says REV0.4
O wait, I only need to use ODIN if I'm not on a stock 2.1 unrooted Captivate, right?

Don't use 1 click on that build. Or you will be a sad panda.
Edit: correct no reason to flash stock from stock.
Would I be right in assuming that one-click ODIN puts an older version of the stock ROM on my phone, and I don't need to use ODIN at all because I'm not rooted and still on the stock ROM?

That assumption would be correct.
But as stated above. Never use the Odin 1 click that I posted earlier. You will indeed be a "sad panda". Your phone will be bricked.
Anyway, wait for someone else to come along and tell you which Odin to use. I'm not sure myself which one you need for your phone.
But regardless, for your first flash, you shouldn't need to wipe your phone.

[Q] Dr. Ketan-Where do I find the original stock kernel (zImage file)

First of all I apologise for starting a new thread, but the the original thread [02Feb12]How to Root/Unroot Samsung Galaxy Note + CWM (simple step at end of post), (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360), this question is related to will not let me post a reply because I donot have more than 10 posts yet.
Dr. Ketan,
I have a GT-N7000, baseband version-N7000UBKK1, KERNAL VERSION-2.6.35.7-N7000UBKK2-CL705203 [email protected] #2, BUILD NUMBER-GINGERBREAD.UBKK2. I have Root+CWM and need to revert back to stockROM/unroot for warranty. On your post mentioned above it says "If You have Root + CWM - then first find out original stock kernel (zImage file)"
How or where do I find this "original stock kernel (zImage file)"
Thanks.

My version is not available at this website you suggested. Is there a way to get it from my phone itself?
Moved To Q&A
Please post all questions in the Q&A section
Maybe a PM would of been the best way to go
May be it is old ROM, have you try to connect to Kies?
get latest kies, n connect your device to kies, n check any update available for you. If available, note it n search for that ROM.

Unfortunately it did not work.
Odin do not downgrade my firmware. I downloaded xxlb1 (Poland) image and follow steps on post #2 to upload to my phone. After upload, phone reboots, extract and install files for about 5 to 10 seconds and reboot again.
Android boots normally and my settings stay like untouched. I tried second link but it cannot write zimage file because file system is read only.
If I go on Settings / About Phone and try to find a update, there is no update avaliable.
On your second link Chainfire suggest to use KJ1 (factoryfs). Is it secure or there is another way to get root?
Thank you!
It's done.
I downloaded KJ4 version (Kernel 2.3.5).
N7000XXKJ4 ------ 2.3.5 2011 october-------- N7000XEOKJ1 -----------------------Poland -------------------------Download
Then I go do second matius44 link and downloaded CF-Root-SGN_XX_XEN_KJ4-v5.0-CWM5.zip on post #4 and follow instructions on post #2.
Now it's rooted. I'll try to upgrade to 2.3.6 (xxlb1) again but with root using CWM from Chainfire.
If I succeed I'll post the step by step.
I'll have to buy a sdcard for testing.
Thank you.
