I recently rooted my phone, and one of the first things I wanted to do was to get rid of the goddamned annoying sound that plays every time I dock my phone to charge.
From what I understand, all I had to do was rename or delete /system/media/audio/UI/ChargerPluggedIn.ogg
So I appended .bak to the filename just in case something went wrong, and it just so happens that something went wrong.
Now the phone no longer plays the original sound effect, of course, but instead of staying silent as I had expected, it starts playing the default Sony Ericsson ringtone nonstop!
To add insult to injury, there's no apparent way to shut it up except for a reboot.
I'm clueless as to why it's behaving this way. Please help, it's driving me nuts.
Phone: Z3 Compact (D5833) unlocked
Rooted and upgraded to stock Sony FW V23.4.A.1.232 following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
SuperSU Free V2.46
BusyBox Free V1.24.1-Stericson
Modifications: Xposed framework for LP V75 SDK22 ARM
Installed Xposed modules: Should be irrelevant, because I disabled all modules in attempt to isolate root cause, was still able to reproduce the issue will all modules disabled (yes I rebooted)
I used ES Explorer (granted SuperSU permissions) to perform all system file modifications.
Aside from renaming the original ogg file, I also tried creating a new blank file with the same name (ChargerPluggedIn.ogg) to act as a placeholder and maybe fool the system into thinking that the file exists, didn't work.
Does Sony CID have anything to do with my problem? I have not flashed RICDefeat.zip since I seem to have read somewhere that there's no longer any Sony CID issue with the latest firmware. I may be wrong?
I must admit I am frustrated that I have the ability to root and flash ROMs (albeit just following guides, but successful nonetheless), but am unable to disable a little sound effect. Argh...
Search for "Ultimate Sound Control" in PlayStore, worked for me

Thanks, this worked!
Still would like to know why simply deleting the file doesn't work for me, although I suspect I will never find out.
I had the same problem and i resolved in this way.
It seems that if it doesn't find the file or cannot reproduce it, the phone starts to play the default ringtone.
On others phones, it doesn't happen
Hi guys! I was wondering if anyone knows how to enable the Android built in NavBar on this device. I tried very different methods, from apps to manually mods, but nothing worked. I've added the line "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" at the end of build.prop and nothing happened, so i tried to make a local.prop file containing that line in /data folder and still nothing happened. I've also tried by adding "ro.show.navigationbar=yes" in both build.pro and local.prop but still nothing happened. In the last i've installed Xposed, Gravity Box for MM end tried to enable the navbar from here....guess what? Still nothing happened. Please, does someone know how to achieve this? I need to use the nav bar.
P.s i know about the huge amount of alternatives on Google Play, but i don't want to use third part apps that eats my RAM. If i can enable the system built in there's no reason to download a separate app.
Thanks for everyone who reads this.
Thanks to DTDMike & SeptFox
I found a little difference from the mod for the V20 but got it working with a slight edit for the V30's config
Volume will now be louder but LG Hi-fi checker will still say normal mode. Root is needed at the moment.
Copy file into /system/etc and override existing one
Suggestion: fully document the changes you're making, so future generations aren't in the situation that you guys were in the other thread/people can just do the changes themselves (in case other modifications are present, e. g. I plan on modifying mine so v4a can affect ringtones/notifications, copying your file would overwrite that).
The LG app not showing the right mode isn't encouraging, would seem to suggest it's just blindly writing settings based on the headset type it thinks is plugged in, without reading anything first... a bit sloppy and potentially unsafe in my opinion.

Code:
<!-- ESS DAC START -->
<path name="headphones-hifi-dac">
<ctl name="Es9018 AVC Volume" value="0" />
<ctl name="Es9018 Master Volume" value="0" />
<ctl name="Es9018 HEADSET TYPE" value="2" />
</path>
Is the change made in mixer_paths_tavil.xml
Works great!
Though I could not find a way to remount /system/etc as r/w when booted up whether in a file explorer or termux.
Mounting /system as r/w in twrp and using the terminal to manually change the values from there worked though.
So there is no other way to install it without rooting my device if no, Then how do i root my V30 ?
EDIT: ALL V30/V30+/V30S can now be bootloader unlocked and rooted.

You need a V30/V30+ variant which is on the LG Developer Bootloader unlock list. There's instructions down in the development section, if you have one of those phones.
Right now there's two European phones on there, but soon the open market US998 V30/V30+ should be placed on there.
Thank you, but I just replaced the file with ES File Explorer end rebooted the phone and now there's no audio at all :crying:
edit: H930 no branding
edit2: ouch, I found my mistake, i replaced the file in /etc, not system/etc... Can someone please send me the file from /etc?
edit3: no reading permissions. I apologize and will return to my abyss of shame...

But you are rooted and everything is fine now?
Yes, the file just did not have reading permissions for some reason. Now it works like a charm, unbelievable sound in combination with v4a . Thank you.

Apologies for a total noob question, but I am stuck.
I successfully unlocked the bootloader on my v30 via LG dev site (status=unlocked and I get the extra boot screen), but cannot copy the .xml to /system/etc. with ES file explorer, I have no write permissions.
I tried to enable 'root explorer' in the ES file explorer settings, but got the message "sorry test failed, this feature cannot run on your device".
I can only assume that unlocking the bootloader does not equal a rooted system. The app root checker confirms this, I have no root permissions.
What steps am I missing?

I realize you wrote this before our extensive conversation in the other thread, but I'm answering it anyway un case someone else has the same question...
You need to flash root via TWRP, either Magisk or SuperSu.
Unlocking bootloader is first step, installing TWRP custom recovery is second step, flash root via TWRP is the 3rd step.

It they have a detachable cable, it matters which order you plug everything in. Experiment: cable to phone first then headphone, or the other way.
Yea i did try that mate it connects as an aux device the volume increases it works well but yesterday i don't know how i connected the cable normally and it turned on H.I.M and the audio quality was just epic quality + good balance and soundstage so that's why i wanna trigger the H.I.M somehow

Hey, here is the original mixer_paths from my H930.
Doesn't seem to work while playing DSD files. At max 75 volume seems like stock. Regular non dsd audio is loud even at 40.
Hi,
for me this XML doesn't work anymore with the new Oreo update, do you have any suggestions please? Thanks
I've managed to figure out why my pixel 2XL sounds have gone/failed after freshly flashing androidQ
to my knowledge this affects the pixel2xl factory images of androidQ but it might affect other devices
thanks to skittles9823 hiddensettings magisk module,
I have found the issue but I'm unsure how to fix this, flashing a pie rom sound triggers are targeted by
/system/media/audio/*.*
but clean flashing Android 10 audio triggers are targeted to
/product/media/audio/*.*
but the audio files are located in /system/ and the /product/ folder does not contain any sound files only boot animations...
I'm a intermediate user and managed to actually point out where the fault is... but I'm unable to fix it perfectly
ideally I'd like to somehow move/copy the audio files to the product folder or have a module to flash the settings to point to the right area?!
I have used skittles9823 mod to change these settings to point to the right area but sometimes the settings seem to be reverting
or the settings dump has issues adding multiple lines to the module
IE:
lock_sound
lock_sound
lock_sound=/product/media/audio/ui/Lock.ogg
lock_sound=/system/media/audio/ui/Lock.ogg
possibly this is linked my a seperate battery issue after recently refurbishing my phone but certainly linked to my limited knowledge.
A very simple module to modify number of volume steps. Very handy for anyone who finds the default volume control too steep (e.g. level 7 is too quiet and 8 too loud).
It also removes the safety "too loud" nagging message.
Using Magisk 19+ template, so should be good for a while.
Code:
ro.config.vc_call_vol_steps=14
ro.config.media_vol_steps=40
audio.safemedia.bypass=true
Awesome. Going to try it.
Is a way to change vol. steps in setedit.apk ?
I think the lower volume is to loud ... For my wife when she is trying to sleep and I playing Clash royale

I don't think that's possible. Audio service reads the number of volume steps from build.prop file.
However you can easily decrease (or increase) the overal volume without root with eqfy equalizer app - just use the first slider (pre-amp). One of the free apps might achieve the same, but IMHO the eqfy is worth the money, probably the best quality equalizer app available.
Nice, but... Is possible do it for notification sound?

Probably, install the module and try adding these lines in /data/adb/modules/VolumeStepsTweaks/system.prop:
alarm:
Code:
ro.config.alarm_vol_steps=xx
system (ringer/notification?)
Code:
ro.config.system_vol_steps=xx
Replace xx with desired number of steps.
And reboot the phone.
Let us know the result

After further digging in the source code - we need to change "stream.ring" values, but it can't be done with ro.config prop unfortunately. Only alarm/media/in_call can be modified this way.

I am not aware of any module for recent phones. Modification of mixer paths xml would change the SW gain only anyway, most probably in the very same way as the Eqfy does.

But where can I find the file1 To modify, it is much simpler and cleaner without using third-party applications, if possible you could create a magisk module, if only you knew where to start

There are several mixer xml files now, it's not clear which one exactly is responsible for headphones gain. It's not "much simpler and cleaner" anymore (as you can see, so far no one bothered or succeeded). But of course no one stops you to edit these files - they are located in /vendor/etc. Hint - do not edit them directly as dm-verity kernel feature will correct these "errors", you need to create Magisk module.

Ok, found it,
it's strange,the steps are there, but the real sound level does not seems to match the new steps, but the old ones.
I mean,The cursor has 40 steps now and i can choose the 7th step, but the sound level is the same until the 15th (for exemple)

Try to move the volume slider up and down to both extreme values, I noticed with headphone and in call volumes that upon the first change, the system needs to "reset/recalibrate" the exact value for new number of steps. At least that did the trick for me.
