Ive just bought a brand new Mate 10 which came with EMUI 8.0.0 (Android Oreo 8.0). Everything is great except that when I plug the phone into my car Android Auto starts on the phone (Black AA Screen) and the HU starts to switch to AA but all I get is a black screen. Whats even more interesting is that AA seems to be alive behind it all as if I touch the screen, things happen, eg if I press the hardware phone button and then touch the screen, it will call someone. If I hold the hardware phone button down I can issue voice commands.
Any idea's how I can get my HU screen to work?
I am using a Xiaomi A1 running Android8.0 and also have an Opel Astra K - with no AA-problems!
Try to check your cable, or replace your cable to the original one ...

Yep, using the supplied cable. Tried 2 others as well. Same behaviour.

Poxy lame response from. Huawei:
"Thank you very much for contacting Huawei and we are truly sorry for the inconvenience caused.
With regards to your inquiry, we would like to inform you that Huawei is currently working with Google to fix this problem. Please look out for new updates for your phone system and Android Auto, and install the updates when possible. It is recommended that you wait for new updates in which the problem is fixed."
So 12 months after the issue was reported with Android 6 devices, it's still happening with Android 8. So #[email protected]&ing lame.

It's really incredible that this issue has not been fixed yet. I have issues too with my Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Android Auto. It's supposed to be a "flagship" device and it doesn't work with Android Auto. Wtf?
I was thinking about to get a Huawei mate 10 pro.
Googled android Auto and USB-C.
No thanks Looks I like I will look for an old USB phone.

DOnt be put off by USB-C. Its purely a Huawei issue. Point in case, my new Nokia 8 works great.
I dont think is the phone problem in your case it might be the AA car board compatibility! I have Mate 10 pro and honda civic 2018 and AA works with no issue.! I am a happy Huawei AA user: v well connectivity BT phone, media and charging in the same time of usingAA.

Car works perfectly with my Oppo R7sf and Nokia 8. It's a phone issue.
that might be the car bord version of software and phone system... as i explained I do have honda civic 2018 with os 4.2.2 and my mate 10 pro emui 8.0.0

Could be. But it's clearly capable of running with Android 7(Oppo) and 8 and 8.1 phones (Nokia) so whose the best candidate?
i dont have an answer but to say i was really sceptical when i purchase my car not long ago reading all was post by huawei AA compatibility..... it has nothing to do with Huawei OS system.... i am the one using both

So maybe it's just that EMUI has a fix to work with the hardware you have. So far, Ive seen way to many people say their Huawei DOESNT work. Way that don't than do.

Ahh yep...well aware of that. But as I said, everyone else seems to be able to deal with what is there. If all you want to be is a fanboi and tout that you one setup works, that's great. This thread is here to warn people of the ONGOING issue Huawei have with their 2nd rate bloatware OS.
I've got also a Opel Astra K and have several issues with the Mate 10 Pro, connected with the OEM cable..
Despite a factory reset (I originally cloned data from my Honor 7 with Phone Clone app), i have sometimes soft resets when I connect the phone to my car, with a message "No compatible application.. ".
Some other times, I've got a black screen, the only way to play music is to select USB as source on IntelliLink (Opel infotainment).
Phone doesen't work correctly : no notification on car display when receiving or making a call
Waze not working at all.
Never had this issues with my Honor 7. Outside this I'm satisfied with my phone, but I would like to have Android Auto running well....

I have also the Opel astra k. Despite waze not working and the phone not showing up while calling. I have no issue.
But I have a new phone and the big screen of intellilink (r900 I think?)
Never drove long though. Today I will drive for 2 or three hours. Let's that there is no crash!
The bugs are annoying. But I don't care.

I have the "basic" Intellilink (7 inch display). Maintenance of my Astra is programmed for next Thursday, I'll ask my dealer if there is any update of Opel software
Same exact problem with Opel Astra K and Huawei Mate 10 Pro, but problem got worse when I went to update the software to the Opel service.
Had R 4.0 IntelliLink version 1.12.5.2 for 1,5 year and after updating it about 2 weeks ago, it's version is IP34.5.1 (1.34.5.6). Also HW version is E2.
Before the update I had the random black screen on android auto, about 1 out of 4 times but it was working without issues 3 out of 4 times. After the update..... I ALWAYS get black screen So, the problem got worst for some reason.
So, I completely factory reset both the phone and R 4.0 IntelliLink... unfortunately same issue with black screen. I also tried both original cable and an SBS type C cable that used to work before the update... nothing again..
I also have a Lenovo Phab that works without any issue on Android Auto! Also iPhone with CarPlay works very nice and always as well!
Tried everything I found on the web regarding dev mode etc but nothing helped. The screen remains black, understands the touch and in order for the screen to show R 4.0 IntelliLink default icons, I remove the key, open the door, lock the car and after 2 minutes I unlock the car, put the key on the ignition and everything is back to normal.
Really don't know why exactly the problem got worse, although I read around the web that in order for Android Auto to work on R 4.0 IntelliLink EVERY TIME, you simply have to update the software on the OPEL service.

Personally I think it's the other way around. I think EMUI can't work with newer HU software.
Is there someone who could test the compatibility of the P20 Pro extensively with Android Auto? I suspect the general incompatibility (waze, Google music, in call screen,...) of the Mate 10 Pro is still not solved and till now not one review pays attention to this glaring issue. Curious if Huawei has solved this problem with this new phone.

Interesting. I'll listen here before buying, because I use Android Auto quite a bit, so if it doesn't work it's a no go for me.
Unfortunately the first feedback reports the same incompatibility as with the Mate 10 Pro.

I'm having issues connecting the phone to the head unit now with the android 8.1. It is telling me that there is a error code of communication error 6
This is diabolical, for such a basic functionality!!!
I am awaiting delivery of my P20 Pro, and was literally 5 minutes away from ordering an Android Auto headunit!
You have just saved me a lot of money... thanks!
Hopefully more people on here will be able to test.
For me, the only thing that doesn't work is Play Music. The progress bar moves but there's no sound. BBC iPlayer Radio and TuneIn Radio both work fine. No problems with Maps and phone.
It's poor at best, if you get it working leave it and don't touch anything.
Had a trip in partners Ford Focus - Sync 3 head unit, works fine with Pixel 2XL/XZ1 Compact but this just either didn't want to play anything or when attempting to read a message would give the error "voice commands not available at the moment" same when attempting to use voice commands as well. Once I did get it playing music and maps I just left it as I didn't want to break anything but still no voice commands available.
Looks like Google will be making Android Auto fully compatible with the P20 Pro. Looks like our phone is a big enough launch from Huawei to attract attention from them.

I'm using a P20 Pro. I have been using android auto in my golf now and everything seems to work fine. The only issues I am having are that I can make calls, but I can't see the phone call on the screen which means I have to use the steering wheel to hangup. When someone rings me I can't see it on my. Infotainment screen. Also can't see all of my contacts. Only my most recent. Hopefully there is a fix coming for this

Just received my P20 Pro yesterday, and just like my all previous Huawei phones (P9, P10, Mate 10 Pro) - it works with AA fine enough (only issue - call screen is not being shown).
It's barely usable...
Well it's my first Huawei phone (coming from an S8) and I'm a big fan of AA probably because of Waze...
Here are my remarks:
- Google Maps works from time to time
- Waze doesn't work at all, I have a black screen
- and for the audio it's impossible to switch between the apps and there's no audio
So unless you're using Google Maps extensively, I don't see why you'd use the P20 Pro with AA.
For those who are thinking how it was with an S8, well it was kind of a all or nothing experience. I've had periods where the phone wouldn't connect to AA and suddenly start working again.
I have also noticed that the cable quality is very important.
Android auto working fine for me. Only issue is the phone charges very slowly when connected. My one plus used to charge much quicker when connected to car head unit
Hello I've P20 and vw sportvan, no map (waze or Google maps)... I've black screen. No sound when I want to use Google music... I hope Huawei make something to solve this....
I have AA in a Pioneer headunit, working with a P20 Pro, I get audio issues with Google Play Music, waze works fine...
Got a P20 Pro and Android auto is working perfect in my Volkswagen Passat GTE. Been using it daily and everything works fine for me including Waze and Spotify
Skickat från min CLT-L29 via Tapatalk
Doesnt Work
Pioneer X8800BT headunit worked flawlessly with Sony Xperia Z5 Premium so it's not the headunit.
Waze worked for a hour or so with audio then this became a black screen. Google play music "plays" but no sound comes out. In the end I had to unplug the phone from headunit (which I paid good money for) and use the unit as a dumb bluetooth speaker while using Waze directly off the phone...
I think I'll be returning it and getting a Pixel 2 XL unless someone can give me hope that there is work being done to solve this? I don't want to root it just yet because my credit card / banking apps stop working.
Shame as it's an otherwise excellent phone - but this is a deal breaker for me.
From my point of view is essential to have a quality USB cable. Everything (Waze, Google maps, call screen) works seemly with original cable delivered with charger. With another cable work call screen only, Waze and Google maps shows black screen. With cheap USB cabel my mobil phone (Huawei P20 PRO) doesnt connect to car (Hyundai i30 2018).
yesterday an AA update hit the play store. anyone tried after that?

Yes, no substantial changes...
OK so occasionally I see threads about BT/Bluetooth issues but although I change my phone frequently I've never had any issues with my Ford Ranger of 3 years... until now.
Worked fine with Note 8, Huawei P20 Pro and anything in between.
The issue recently is when I try and make a call via the Ford pick-up it says no network, but it's playing music at the time no problem and the phone shows up under bluetooth.
If I make a call from the phone it instantly comes up on the car system and I can speak and make the call normally. I unpaired and started over today nut no difference.
Any thoughts?

I don't have the issue with my Verizon N960U and 2018 Subaru Forester, but there is another thread here with the Same symptoms on a few different makes /models of vehicle.
I tried search but didn't find anything. Anybody got a link please?
Bluetooth works fine in my 2016 F150, now Android Auto is another story.
solved!
Tried a new music App - Pulsar+ and although it took ages to get all the right cover photos (about 40 out of 180 manually searching and downloading) all is well again.
Thanks
Gentlemen, and ladies.
I have a Huawei P30 Pro VOG-L29 (Build 10.0.0.173(C431E19R2P5)).
I got a new bluetooth headset for Christmas. I have previously used both solid JBL bluetooths, played in cars, and had ****ty china BT headsets. They have all worked fine.
This new BT headset can't play a song even, without major stuttering and what really sounds like reception issues, like when you exit your car and walk too far away, or just audiodistorted skipping.
The reason I mention it has worked before, and today worked in the car, is so you know most things do work.
However I can't for the life of me fix this new one. I've tried going into Developer settings and changing frequencies, codecs, you name it. However ALL other options than the ones currently in use (SBC, 44.1 kHz, 16bit/sample, stereo) are currently greyed out.
I am at a loss, I really don't want to return this headset to the shop, because ergonomically, it's the boss.
I have tried the headset with my SurfacePro 4, and a backup iPhone and it worked fine.
Please advise, gent's. I've never enountered an Android problem XDA can't fix.
Do you have a Smartwatch or another BT device attached to the phone at the same time?
Yes and no. Garmin Fenix 5 Plus Sapphire.
BUT I did try it with the Garmin unpaired and all software uninstalled as well. So it's not the watch.
I just gave up and exchanged them for a pair of JBL after trying LITERALLY everything. Tried an old backup iPhone and they were fine. Tested them on my wife's Huawei Y9 2019, same problem. A company Y6, same problem. With my SurfacePro 4 they worked fine. Then the same problem with a Samsung tablet.
I googled, searched and tested around for 4 days.
But in the end it was not worth the hassle, so I threw in the towel and changed it at the shop. A real shame, because they sat like glued in my ears, which is rare, huge ears and oily skin, and just felt fantastic.
But now I got a pair of JBL T110BT. They have some audio artifacts, and sometimes when a call is recieved the sound can be distorted and they have to be reconnected(Common problem according to google), but end of the day they are great for what I mainly do, which is listen to Spotify, and use them when I am the caller.
hello, AA run on your smartphone ? Not on mine.

It doesn't and will never work
It doesn't work why I had to get rid of my vivo!
Best phone we're it not for our dependency with Google.
Hi, in Canada. Just got my Vivo X90 Pro Plus and tested it out today. It would not work in my car. I was upgrading from a Huawei P30 Pro (still running great except battery capacity's gone way down... something I understand for something that's been my daily since April 2019). I had no trouble with Android Auto from my Huawei so I know it's not my USB-C Cable. I have NAV in my car though user-interface is obviously not as quick and easy as Android Auto.
Google Maps does work so... just gotta buy myself a phone stand for the car and work through Bluetooth...
