Hi,
I am a man from France half time of my life or more already. I am a computer scientist and GNU/Linux daily user.
I am a user of Android phone.
My historical phones were in the beginning Motorola (Startac), Ericsson (t18s), Nokia 3210, Alcatel one touch, Sony Experia Arc S, Sony Experia X3, and in the end of the 2010s I got a one plus 5T, and my current phone one plus 8T.
I found your forum because I was recently searching still a solution to get updated my Android Os on the One
Plus 5T.
I am a Linux user and I find very shame this impossibility to put freely the last version of Android and be able to use phone that hardware is sufficient but that os had been stopped. For ecology and the earth, This is bad thing and it should be possible to be able to change phone only when it doesn't work anymore in term of software but not hardware.
That's for the creation of this very helper forum .
Regards,
Ses Specs

Sorry Mods and Admins, if i m postin' this in a wrong place.
Hi y'all developers, while typin' my last post, i realized that i have 100+ posts, and i have become a senior member now. So felt like makin' a thread for testimonials.
I came across xda-developers, last year. I wuz usin' Blue Angel that time, i wuz attemptin' to update my ROM, with the latest one, on the vendor's website. Somethin' went wrong, and my phone got stuck at a grey screen with USB written on it. I tried everything, that a normal user would do. Tried soft-reset, hard-reset, removed battery, nothin' worked. I thought, that would be the end of it, b'cuz warranty wasn't valid as this phone was officialy not available here, that time.
Then i searched web, and got results in this website, followed wiki, learnt about BootLoader mode, killed the required processes in the task manager & wuz able to do the update succesfully. Then there wuz no end to it, flashed so many ROMs, enjoyed WM6 on a phone runnin' WM3. Never imagined that Had this community not been there, my phone would have been nothin' more than a brick.
Here, we have so many personalized applications to share, customized ROMs removing the shortcomings of original ones, shipped with the device. Moreover, we have 'Offline' to discuss about different other topics, to share jokes, incidents and to get suggestions and reviews on the new things, in the market.
Thanks to all the Developers, Moderators & the Administrators(of course), for this lovely community.
People who feel, if they got any help from this forum, plz post your testimonials here.
UNITED WE STAND, Cheers..
i was totally into nokias and never thought of switching brands.
just about when pocket pcs used to be so bulky- i never thought i needed such a device although it offered much more than nokias.
then came our good ol' magician. when i was on a trip to Dubai i saw this beautiful ppc which was smaller but much higher in specs as compared to the xda IIs
i immediately got it then and there (O2 xda mini).
then one day (when i didn't know about this site) i flashed a wrong rom and my mini showed just USB v1.1. i started searching the www and finally reached this site. i not only got a rom but also wonderful apps which have really enhanced my ppc experience.
but i now feel so unlucky cos' i got a magician. we can not flash wm5 or 6 therefore
no touchflo...no many good things! (if anybody has "good things" pls tell me)
i've helped a number of noobs here who always got a "regional" error when reflashing (of course ...the developers and senior members feel sick repeating it time and again to the new ppl)
i am thinking of getting a new device now but all devices of my choice have a major disadvantage which i would like to list.(point me out if i am wrong):-
1. HTC Touch (slow processor, no dedicated 2.5mm audio jack..and the supplied earphones suck!)
2. HTC TyTN II (HTC is so very reluctant in providing the display drivers..this device is rendered way slower than a magician)
3. HTC Touch Cruise (same case as with tytn II, feels much bigger than touch)
and then windows mobile 7 is on its way and i've come across some screenshots too.
and i seriously doubt the existing devices will be able to be upgraded to wm7. its got some features like dual touch sensitivity which contribute to this doubt.correct me if i am wrong pls. (but very frankly....i have full faith in the developers here who have insanely sharp minds)
and lastly - i have not yet donated any amount till date but i am going to begin soon as i have full plans to get a paypal acount. i understand that the developers here have to sacrifice their hell lot of time to write awesome codes and then to improve them, remove flaws and make them compatible for as many devices as possible.
and then this is a nice thread (thanks to rohit!) ...pls share your experiences -it takes only a minute or two (but it took me more than 15 minites---i am a bit SLOW!!)
thanks a lot
PEACE!!
i got help with my htc wizard. i was getting tired with the rom it came with so i started to look for hacks or mods and i found this site even dough that i had come here a year before looking for info on a ipaq and left the site because had no info on the ipaq. but when i got the wizard this site has helped me with everything
Thanks
Hey Guys
Could anyone explain why this website is "not manufactured by htc = no support" ????
i mean is it a technical problem ? maybe a flashing problem ? because the people who make roms etc ... im sure they would like to make roms for any kind of phone and not only for htc.
Second:
xda support... i don't understand the term really and it doesnt make much sense ... i think we're a community who owns xperia's and modify the roms and make customization and make it public ... just like themes, icons, programs... for example all programs or icons available as cabs or other formats they can be used by any wm phone.
And also registry tweakings, hw problems we discuss etc.
so my question is does this website have a policy not to create a section for non htc phones ? or there are technical problems ? If there is a policy then i think all people who buy X2 should find another website and create a new community and if it's more technical reated well i propose to make anyway a section for X2 and exchange ideas ... share programs tweaks... etc.
i guess the reason for this is to keep a tight community.
there are many HTC devices and enough people to service.
if you find a website on dogs then it is very understandable if they dont want posts about cats. you can however argument they should do a website about all animals because in general they all eat, sleep and ****. also you can add humans for this reason . if you think long enough then you need only 1 page for carbon-based lifeforms ...
its the internet. you pick a theme, create a page and (normally) stick to it. Its the best way to find experts in your field/theme.

p.s.: i guess the X2 is a (first time) special case because it will be similar to the X1 in many ways. it is only a matter of time to wait for the first X2 owner posts here. then we will see if this forum tolerates cat/dog mutants ;-) the best compromise would be to add a small x2 subforum in the x1 section. the x2 software and rom will be an essential source for x1 modifications an therefore the x2 should have a small place here (my opinion).

I nominate you for best forum thread answer EVER!
I guess you missed the point of this site / forum: as from the beginning xda-developers has been the community for the XDA (like O2 XDA, Qtek, I-mate & the latter HTC-) users who wanted or needed their underperformed Wallabies to be as promised.
Later the BlueAngel, Alpine etc devices came out and this site is / has been the place to be for these devices.
I had the Blueangel, Hermes and now the Kovsky.
When i had a SE-P800 i knew the great cooks here dindn`t do any symbian-stuff so i had to go for an another site; this is (i guess) very normal?
Edit:
Of course i`m one of the Kovsky-users who likes to see the X2-stuff here ported for the X1 !! But no hard feelings if that`s not going to happen; the internet-village isn`t so big so we`ll visit a X2-related site also ;-)
All we are going to see is probably some stuff being ported from X2 to X1. So does the rom etc. I dont think we'll see any rom for X2 popping up here,or if there is it'll probably be in the off topic section.
i dont know much about technical stuff, but i remember reading it somewhere that HTC made phone have their own "different" bootloader thing. Thats why hardSPL on some htc devices is pretty much similar, different to other non htc device like omnia.
someone please correct me if im wrong.
cheers
we all need to agree on a X2 sight that we will all go onto otherwise we will disperse!!!
I want to check how many people are still in here.
I'd like to contribute sth. for xda again and I dont know if I should post sth. for Android/Desire or WinMo/Xperia.
I'd like to cook a Rom or make Skins and Wallpapers for Windows Mobile, because it's easier for me, but if nobody is here anymore that will be lost time.
So please check in here and VOTE
I really hope there's enough feedback for winmo
yeah I hope so too.
You do realise this post is extremely biased because those that rarely visit the forum arent even going to see this thread!!
Yup I AM looking for more xperia 1 applications -can you please guide me I want to use the call recordern in win mobile notes - but it stops recording automatically after 30 seconds - please help reply to [email protected] - thanks in advance
HAHA, true. But it will be a good indication of just how many active members there are on the xperia forums.
I'm quite excited about the android development and when it is stable it'll be going straight onto my x1.
But for now, the winmo is the way to go.
Monitor how many posts the forum has per day and how much it increases every 24 hours, then you'll know how many folks are on it everyday and conributing etc might be more accurate method
still got my x1a. dont go to the xperia as often as i use to but i drop in every now and then.
bought an hd2 and so i visit that sight a little more frequent. but even before i bought my hd2, i didnt visit the xperia as much as when i had the xperia in the first year.
now today, im going to go buy the palm pre plus from at&t and so i will be frequently dropping by the precentral.net
sure would like to see webos ported to either the x1 or hd2
nobody here just us chicken
And me!
But I came here more when I just became a member. Now I only check the Rom development and the Android sections. And I think this is maybe the same for other users. You should check out those threads aswell. But it is allways great when someone new wants to develop for our devices! So please choose the Xperia!
I had my X1i for 8 month's now and had no problems at all and Android makes the X1i that much more enjoyable. I'm very happy to hear you want to make more cool improvements to are phones.
Hey
I can buy one of these phones used 1-2 months for similar good prcice. And I have dilema.
The most important for me is camera(quality in night condition also matters) - I have no idea which one is better in this field.
Also I pay attention to screen and design - I guess in this regards Nokia win. However I have some doubts about 3gb ram in Nokia, it seems too little, but maybe its enough because of pure android?
I have also option to buy LG G6 but for similar price, but it would be used about 12months.
What do you think?
Hi there,
There are threads already established that are devoted to discussions about devices, please read, and if necessary, repost your question in one of these threads: The what should I buy thread or the The Device Suggestion Thread or the The Device Comparison Thread.
There are also several other discussion threads that you probably should review to help you. They are What phone do you wish you had? or
The Worst Android Device That You've Ever Had & Why or even this place that talks about The best phone you ever owned.
I will have to close this one. Thanks for understanding.
Hi all,
I am an old guy used with SW developments on PC and with an outdated smarphone.
I come here while trying to find a (cheap) android smartphone with NFC, screen 5<=x<6, good power capacity ....
... and no restrictions to access the device internals (rom, sw, etc).
I register to use the search facilities, understand how to choose an appropriate model (processor, components) and to learn from experienced users.

Welcome to XDA!
I would recommend to have a look in the general specs here for you to have an idea of what's the actual offer vs. your needs, from there come back to the forums -having in mind that in XDA almost any phone can be modified, unlocked! -, then locate your desired device, read a lot and enjoy!.
I don't consider myself a super experienced user, but I would go and give a try to Oppo, Oneplus, and Huawei .
Hope it helps!
Welcome aboard! orb3000 has put you on the right track...
