I've never been able to keep ReVanced Youtube running for more than maybe a few minutes, no matter what it's doing - whether that be just browsing or playing videos. It will always crash after a while.
I can't really recall a time it's ever been stable for me, not since I've had to drop the original Vanced. Been hoping every new patch I do with Revanced Manager it would be better but nope.
Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and was able to solve it?
I'm using stock and unrooted btw.
This version worked for me:
https://github.com/cuynu/ytvanced
Just install Vanced MicroG 0.2.27.231712 and version 18.21.34

I was curious if anyone has problems playing the vids on youtube that are HQ. If I turn off the HQ for the the vid then it plays no problem.
When I leave it on, a msg from the app displays just saying there was a problem playing your video please retry.
I've experienced this only in one other app recently released by funimation.
Hulu and netflix work fine for me. I have tried a multitude of roms to see if its linked to specific ones.

Question has been asked a million times . Anyways here's your answer, you need to use an older version of the youtube app for HQ to work. AFAIK the last working version is 2.1.6. Happy youtubing!
I have seen this a million times as well. But I never really paid any attention because I didn't care.
But yesterday I was testing some system app mods, so I ended up downloading YouTube from the market. HQ videos were playing for me.
I guess that's unusual or whatever. Maybe they weren't really HQ quality, I don't know. But they were playing.
Me and the kid watched funny cat videos for over an hour.
Non-opengl, no system mods that would matter.

That's interesting, what rom are you using?
Could you try it out again and report back?
I was afraid it was something app related. Its not a big deal. Was mostly curious as well as seeing if I could do some tweak to get the funimation app to work as well. Thanks for the help!

For those of us who want to use the older version until things get fixed or worked around in the roms, how can I hide the older apk from the market so I don't get spammed all the time to update?

Go to settings in market/play store and tell it to not notify you of any updates.

Okay, well I had flashed a couple of times since I posted that, and when I went to try it again, it didn't work. I knew I wasn't wrong the other day, so I reflashed what I thought I had been running before, and now the HQ videos are working with the current market YouTube.
The change between working and not working was I didn't flash the "take1" kernel like I had before.
So this is the setup. I am running a straight build from source, without opengl. I built it myself, but that shouldn't matter. It was built on April 8th, and comes with the standard kernel (no NAT filter or any of the new commits.)
The only difference between mine and the eyeballers (not counting any cherry-picking he may be doing) is that I compiled in a port of PDroid. There are some changes to some system apps, but I don't think that would matter.
Basically, anyone running a straight flash of eyeballer's April 8 build should have the same ability to run the videos with the HQ button on or off. I will not swear they are true HQ videos, I don't know that for certain. But the videos run either way.
EDIT: Let me know if anyone else has this working. I don't know much about YouTube or the whole HQ/HD thing and may be losing my mind.
I thought I had isolated the problem to a gapp, but now am not so sure. I will test again if no one else can get these working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a bunch of stuff, and don't want to keep doing it if everyone can see HQ with the above setup.
Maybe everyone can in any setup and only the few people on this thread haven't realized it yet. idk.

Ah I see you are using a CM9 build. There might be something to that. I'm on CM7.2 . Maybe in CM9 it got fixed somehow.
I thought it was working in cm7 as well. Maybe it was just a modded app though, which is no better than an older apk.
Well, unless someone with cm9 tells me it's unique, I will just assume everyone has it working. They probably do, I have never looked at it before I saw this thread the other day.

My experience has been that HQ sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I believe it is due to the actual quality of the video being played. For non-HD videos the HQ is lit up and the movie loads and plays fine. For HD videos that are actually HD you get the error message and have to uncheck HQ to get the video to play.
I have had this experience in several different configurations:
eyeballer's opengl builds, original kernel
eyeballer's opengl builds, updated kernel
eyeballer's opengl 4.9, updated kernel take 2 (current setup)
I would like to know if others have the same experience with "HQ" working for what seem to be non-HD videos and not working when the video actually appears to be HD.

Hi. I have stock android build NB4. So, previously I have had no problem with any apps what so ever. Then yesterday 3/18/14 I receive a youtube update(phone is set to auto update), after this update youtube launches and crashes during the initial loading screen. I have tried uninstalling updates which remedies this problem, but I am left with a buggy youtube app. I tried reinstalling the update, rebooting my phone, etc. and nothing seems to work except using the original youtube build which is very buggy. Is anyone else having this problem? How do I fix this?
I had the same problem. I was using YouTube ad away. When I disabled it it fixed the crashes. So if you use adaway Or YouTube adaway disable them and see if that works.

Youtube Adaway had to be updated. You can update it in the Xposed Module.
Hi I've been constantly using YouTube a lot and I'm not sure if I'm the only one seeing this issue but it's very very annoying. The issue with YouTube is that for every video I play no matter what I always have to click on either 720p, 1080p, or 1440p if available HD option for every you tube video I play no matter what. I remembered before all you had to do is pick 1080p and that's it it sticks for every video even when you exit the app and launch it the next day it's still was on 1080p so I'm wondering why am I going through this? Did you YouTube change it up? Are any of you guys experiencing this?
I think it auto changes based on what it "thinks" your network can handle.

Well I can understand that but today I was in my house all day on WiFi and my WiFi speeds average is in the 40mbps and I was having this issue with YouTube all day. I just wish there where some kind of hacked YouTube apk like before when you was able to force 1080p to stick no matter what.
Yea it never does
Hey there. I have an issue with YouTube. When I select the video quality / resolution I no longer select 1440p. It doesn't show in the menu. I was previously on NOS 7.1.2 and updated two days ago to NOS 8.1.0 and the app behaviour didn't change.
I tried also with YouTube Vance magisk module and forced the resolution to 1440p but to no avail.
Has Google changed something ? Is anyone facing this issue or it is just me ?
Apparently the problem occurred after 1st of April. I mean if I go to see a YouTube clip uploaded before this moment I can select 1440p, but after this date it doesn't allow to go further than 1080p.
I guess Google did something. Maybe the option to select higher resolution above 1080p are restricted to YouTube Red only ?
If someone could check this and report back to me. I would really appreciate it. Thank you...and thanks to nittin for his amazing work with NitrogenOS.
from what I noticed it's something related to adblocking, at least in my case. Updating to latest yt apk often fixes this "auto downgrade" too for some time (I'm using AdAway and Youtube AdAway - the xposed module - without those, no quality downgrades, but bloated with ads: /). Not sure about 1440p, since I changed my screen res to 1080p
Edit: both 1440p and 4k showing up on my pc, even on latest videos, not sure how that compares to a phone tho.
Thanks for the reply but this doesn't apply in my situation. As I said, clips older than 01.04.2018 ate running at 1440p anything after this are capped to 1080p.
I believe there something broke by Google. I would like to know if someone else with a Nexus 6 is experiencing the same thing.

Same issue here. No option to play 1440p. I've read that it has to do with using an ad blocker ( adaway, etc). Sucks because I pay for YouTube Red through GPM.... Might have to figure out how to modify my host file to filter out Youtube now.
Ok. But I don't use adblocker. I have NOS 8.1.0 installed with gapps and magisk. I tried the youtube official version, i tried the youtube vanced (magisk module) whici by the way it allows youtube to play in the background even with your screen off (same as youtube red). You'd better check it out.
What I don't get it is why some clips are played in 1440p (the ones uploaded before 01.04.2018).
Maybe other Nexus 6 users will join us and will enlighten us.

I installed the youtube vanced mod, and after forcing the vp9 codec or whatever its name is 1440p came back for me
I seem to be having playback issues on Nougat. Be it custom or stock. Any video I play give me an error that something went wrong. Once I restart, I'm good again. Anyone experiencing the same?
No, video apps like vlc and mx for example working well on 7.0 and 7.1 roms for me. Do you mean embedded videos while you are browsing? Then you should try another browser
It does not matter where I play it. Fb messenger, IG, youtube app...
Ill try to remove all my apps and monitor... It's weird just started happening recently. It did not happen on dev preview so it could be a rogue app...

Which rom or roms? May you try other kernel, like franco, flash or elementalx. But your issue is new to me, never noticed on stock or custom
I first noticed it on Nitrogen. So I decided to flash stock to isolate but it still happens. Im trying PN and I will monitor
Hi, I have been using yt advanced for a long time, back on my sony xperia xz premium and now on my note9. Non rooted version and I'm experiencing one very, very, very annoying problem. I can't listen to music in background. Example, I'm playing YouTube mix and when one song finishes, next one won't start playing until I unlock phone or close some app and go to youtube and play it manually. Never had such a problem and have no idea what is it. Running stock latest pie and non rooted yt advanced, as said. Any ideas or similar problems? I did tried reinstalling both, yt advanced and microg, cleaning data and cache...
