Hi, I'm having a HTC Hermes, and since AKU3 and WM6 ROMs the Pocket Internet Explorer have a bug. It doesn't send the User Agent String anymore. This bug causes no access to provider-multimedia-content anymore.
On Trinity-HTC-ROMs the PIE does work, but I have no Trinity.
Can somebody please help and zip or rar the 4 hidden files in Windows Directory on Trinity starting with "ie"..
The files are in ROM-Memory, so you have to unhide and select the files and say Duplicate by tap&hold in Resco Explorer.
Then you get 4 files in Windows-Dir starting with "Copy of IE..."
These files can be copied outside of Windows to a zip and posted here if anybody want to help us Hermes-Owners.

I will do it just a minute
All the files start from IE is:
IECEExt.dll.0409.mui
IECEExt.dll
iexplore.exe
iexplore.lnk
I search in my dumped rom and in my ppc windows dir..
Did you whant those file's ???
YES YES, searching for them since weeks!!!
There it is....
Thank you very much.
I replaced the files, but still not working to connect to my Provider.
i tried to change the registry settings, where the User Agent is set, and now i changed the iexplorer.
What else can it be? The Internet Explorer still sending Mozilla/4.0 as User Agent, even if deleting all Mozilla/4.0 Strings!

that's a standard header on all User-Agent Strings... I suggest you get the regular one for IE from WM5 and port it across.
I have down loaded several (cab) programs onto my Mac, then loaded this to the Kaiser. However, some programs only download from the internet as (exe). Can these load onto the Kaiser like (cab) file do? just checking before I do this.
those usually need to be installed to a PC first. then the PC installs them to the PDA device.
Unfortunately, we in the Mac world still have to use a PC every once in a while (please, no flame intended or desired).
There is one program, File Juicer, that can extract some .cab files from .exe files, but not most.
What you need to do is borrow a PC, download the .exe, double click on it. it will most likely be put in the c: drive, program files --->Microsoft ActiveSync. From there, you should see the .cab file and can put it on a usb drive and then put in on your Mac and transfer it over via Bluetooth.
It is the one frustration using these devices while living in the Mac world.
Thank you , I will give tht a try.
It's also worth trying to open them with your favorite app to handle ZIP files. The EXE is often just a self-extracting archive that doesn't actually require a PC to use.
there are two check and fix dead pixel program that you can run direct from the phone, it's a exe extention.

Hi,
Does anyone now how to get the Vodafone Live portal with mobile tv working for my S730???
Many, many thanks!
Jaspar
you can't (yet) because they say it's not supported yet for the S730.
So you can wait or you can tweak your browser (surf google)
anyone knows how to change the USER AGENT string from IE then??
Is there still no solution to this problem? I even changed my browser.dll to get the N95 User Agent string, but its still not working.
I've been trying to get the browser.dll to modify but it seems to be unable to be modified or even copied to my PC to be edited?
Could this be simply because it is security locked?
How did you copy the browser.dll to your PC and then back again after you'd modified it?
I finally made it work!
I finally can use Mobile-TV and Vodafone Live on the S730. Here are my settings. (sorry this is for the german OS)
1. Connections->GPRS
Name: Vodafone live!
Verbindet mit: Büro
Zugriffspunkt: wap.vodafone.de
2. Connections->Proxy
Name: Vodafone live!
Verbindet Von: Büro
Verbindet Mit: WAP-Netzwerk
Proxy: 139.7.29.1:80
Typ:http
3. Settings->GPRS Authentifikation
CHAP
4. Streaming Media->Optionen
Verbindung über:Büro
5. Internet Explorer->Options->Connection
Network: WAP-Netzwerk
6. copy attached browser.dll to Smartphone/windows folder
->overwrite old file
7. change registry-key
HKLM/Security/Internet Explorer/User Agent->Values „Custom“:
String „Vodafone/1.0/HTC_Mercury/1.20.162.3/Mozilla/4.0“
After this steps vodafone live works for me.
Do I copy all the details literally to my S730 or do I need to modify to English first?
How its possible to change dlls. I didn't see this files in th explorer of Windows Mobile on the HTC S730. And I have no permissions to edit this file in Windows Vista when the phone is connteced...
Did everything, but when i start Pocket IE i get the warning that the program is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate.... how can i change this????
Ok, I got this warning too (in another forum they say this is because of the changed checksum of the dll), but I was able to select OK (or continue) and then it worked for me.
To get the dll was a little bit more complicated (it took me about 5 hours and a lot of Google, but if you know how to cook a ROM it will be easier for you) because you have to dump the original ROM from your phone. I used the information from here
and here But you have to add a blocksize parameter to the pdocread.exe-tool, (I think it was "-b 0x800") to be able to read the ROM data.
After the whole dumping of the ROM you have all the original files from the ROM on your pc.
But I hope this dumping is not necessary for you because the browser.dll should be nearly the same for all languages (the only issue is that the Pocket IE recognize that this file was changed, but it should start afterwards). I even tried a browser.dll from tytn II and the IE started (but the softkeys didn't work then) By the way, if you want to restore the original browser.dll simply delete the modified one and the the smartphone will get the original one from the ROM of the phone.
I hope anbody else will be sucessful with this whole vodafone-live issue, because for me it was definitely worth the trouble (especially because of CNN-mobile tv).
Sorry for my bad English, I try to give my best to make me understandable.
I forgot one thing. When I opened the registry I had two values under HKLM/Security/Internet Explorer/User Agent, I think it was "custom" and "custombase". I deleted "custombase" and changed "custom" to „Vodafone/1.0/HTC_Mercury/1.20.162.3/Mozilla/4.0“. So now I only have one value there.
I have done everything mentioned in the post from Miffmaster above including replacing the browser.dll (had to copy it to my storage card first and then used Resco Explorer to copy it to the Windows folder as it wouldn't let me overwrite directly to the Windows folder from my PC)
I have also changed the user string and GPRS, Proxy settings etc...
Now when I start Internet Explorer I get "Access Denied. This program cannot start because it is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate" and the only option is OK with ends the program!!!
Is there a workaround for this or have I done something wrong?
Maybe you could try change the following registry value to "1":
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies
valuename '00001001' was set to dword:2, change it to dword:1
This should give you permission to run unsigned certificates. (see here
What WM version are you using, 6.0 or 6.1? Because my browser.dll came from the original 6.0 Standard ROM.
I'm using the cooked WM6.1 and when I checked, the policies dword was already set to 1 unfortunately!
I don't really want to go back to 6.0 as 6.1 is much faster in general.
Anyway, why should that make a difference to Internet Explorer which is almost certainly the same version anyway???
Have you considered moving to 6.1 yourself and re-doing the browser.dll if you think it will be different?
how can you extract the necessary cab file out of an exe file?
http://www.ocpsoftware.com
They have 2 products, the cheaper one is primarily for extracting stuff out of Cab files. Both products have a trial period.
RE
I was thinking more like a tool for my device to extract the cab from the exe, not a tool to use on a pc since activesync would xfer the cab once the exe is run on the pc anyways
Maybe PocketRAR. Can do on desktop, but never tried on PPC.

How about:
1. Click on the cab file to install it.
2. If you just wanted the program installed stop here.
3. Find the exe on your Device and copy to someplace safe.
4. Remove the program (uninstall it) from your Device.
Now if this doesn't cover your need then please be a bit more specific about what you are trying to accomplish.
I am Looking for the Same thing
I m also Looking for the same thing....
I think what he mean is ... For Example If i want to install POCKETRAR directly from Website to my Pocket pc.. if i go to www.rarlab.com they only have EXE file for Active sync (No Cab File)....
Is dere any software for Pocket PC that can directly Run "ActiveSync EXE files)"on Pocket PC to get the Cab files out of them.....so we can install application without the need of Computer
For that i will simply install the progam on my laptop without my PPC connected then find and copy the cab file. After I have a copy of the cab file I uninstall the program.
Unfortunately no direct on PPC solution.
Yeah but what would you do ... if you have a situation .. where you dont have windows pc ..... I use Linux ... i have to install applications to my friends pc to get it on my Windows Mobile... This will really help alot .. if someone can figure out a way to extract Cab from EXE.....
this is what i normally do:
1. download the EXE onto your PC
(make sure your phone is stay connected at ActiveSync)
2. run the file and STOP when your phone is popping up installation notice
3. open up an explorer go to "\Windows\AppMgr\Install" on ur phone
4. at that moment, you will find your *.CAB file temporarily
5. COPY the file, n' save it somewhere and retain a copy OR share it here
anyway ... that's the manual way but by far, I havent find any softwares to do it yet. good luck.

thats a good way of doing it but if i want to get a cab from an exe is because i have ****y vista so i dont have activesync
Doesn't extract from the phone but, Uniextract will extract cabs from most exe's and installers on a pc. I use it all the time cuz I hate having to run an install or exe just to get a cab. Here's a download link from Softpedia
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Universal-Extractor-Download-56951.html
oh man thats a real good find.
thanks alot!
thanks great program needed this for awhile
AL
I have just bought a HTC Diamond. I am new to the world of Windows Mobile.
So far the phone is great! I love it.
I have noticed you can download lots of apps and tweaks.
I want just wondering how to instal these programs on the phone.
I have downloaded a few games, Unzipped and copied over the files to the phone. It recognioses one of the games with a '.cab' format and it installed, but the rest are .xml.
Any pointers, tips and hints for this phone?
Cheers
the program you use to extract compressed files identifies cab files as compressed. All you need to do is copy the cab files to your phone and run the file from there. If you try to extract a cab file, you'll get those xml files you talked about.
1. Copy cab to phone
2. Run cab from phone to install the program
good luck

Hi - my first post!
You mention .cab files... I expect this applies to .exe's as well (for example, hot fixes)???
Any particular folder(s) on the phone we should be copying these files to before running them? I tried to install a hot fix today, but after running the .exe and receiving a 'success' message, the phone restarts OK, but the fix does not appear to have worked.
all exe install's for pocketpc's are pc exe files which have to be run
on the pc and then it use activesync to transfer the cab file to the
pocketpc and run it there

Thanks for the response.
Unfortunately, running the exe on my PC (Win Vista) doesn't seem to work.
Error: "{C:\filepath\filename.exe} is not a valid Win32 application."
Any ideas? I'm a complete newb at this so have exhausted my very limited list of possible ideas...
some people don't distribute their apps with installers so it could
just be the program itself
in which case you have to execute it on the pocketpc
this of cause mean that it will not put a shortcut to the exe
in your programs thats just something you have
to do manualy with a program like total commander
which you can also use to browse to where you put the
exe file and execute it to start the program

OK thanks - I already tried running the exe straight from my Diamond, and although it appeared to work correctly, the hotfix didn't actually fix what it claimed to. Not to worry, I'm still learning all this stuff (only had my Diamond for a day and a half now... ).
