Why NOT to use a Keygen.

Just seen a great example of why not to use a Keygen to crack legit software.
I was called in to a friends PC to look at why it was running erratically and internet kept locking up.
He had downloaded a copy of Acronis True Image Home with a Keygen program, and that nice Keygen had loaded a sneaky Trojan that disabled Windows Update (to prevent the Malicious SW removal tool from downloading) and various other items then proceeded to use his own PC to distribute Spam within a bot network!
Got his fingers burnt and reloading all his PC will teach him not to do it again!
Warez have that special characteristic, they're fully loaded! ...which I personally find as being a positive thing!
It a risk that people are willing to take I guess.
its simple! why will somebody reverse engineer a software and crack it without any reason?
I prefer invite-only trackers becose of that..
warez rock

They could do it for the thrill?
Somebody here heard something about antispyware and antivirus software?
LOL
If you use Warez just test it in a Virtual Machine -.-

Which in-turn leads to more cracks
If you people don't like to spend money for software, why don't you use FREE software?
Example:
- Linux
- OpenOffice
- FoxIt Reader (PDF)
- ...
... there is very much free software outta there, and in many cases, free software is better than commercial one.
Just search!

Lol random and not relevant to the thread
Who doesn't use warez? I just use warez for movies and to try stuff out =/ If I like it, I buy it. Problems is in trials all the software is limited, I want to try full software, but stupid companies are retarded T.T

you can trust your warez forum and your "warez friends" on the forum. but do you know where they got the Keygen from? perhaps a chineese forum? and where they got it from?
even if you trust your friends on the warez forum who knows where the software came from, it' not like the people on the forum intentionally put a virus in it

That is why you don't trust your "warez friends" and scan all software you download before using and don't scan with AVG haha
lol why not AVG? AVG detects warez quite well. On the warez forums i always see "AVG DETECTED VIRUS! PLZ HELP!!!!" lol.
Yeah but in my experience AVG detects every keygen as a virus/trojan lol. It doesn't care. Says trojan lol. I use CA AntiVirus.

Another iPhone Hack Leaked..

read here : http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/07/29/sms_hack_could_leave_every_iphone_vulnerable.html
gotta love the headline of the article: "SMS hack could leave "every" iPhone vulnerable"
oh and heres the kicker, and i quote :
"Both of the experts reiterated that they notified Apple of the flaws roughly a month ago. In its typically silent approach to security, however, the company hasn't issued an update to patch either of the security breaches and hasn't provided an update on whether or not it can release a patch before the end of the month."
S$& device = $%ยท hacks = %&/ behavior
Yup this is a known hack via SMS, can pass viruses for Symbian... not any Virus for Winmo yet.
I laughed...

According To Mashable
The iPhone hack can also effect users on the Palm Pre and Windows Mobile Phones.
www.mashable.com/2009/07/30/iphone-hack/
According to the article, "Apparently Google Android, Windows Mobile phones, and Palm Pres are vulnerable to similar hacks. The team demonstrated the attack on an Android phone and a Windows Mobile phone".

I just hope there is a patch for winmo users. Most iPhone users won't know how to apply the patch or they will think their phone is broken and they will sell it on eBay for me to purchase and resell.

Dont think it does affect winmo - they have created a fuzzing kit but didnt find any sms flaws (yet) and no mention of a fuzzing kit to find flaws on the pre.
It was demoed on iPhone and Android - no mention of windows mobile.

MSE is a great program, if only Microsoft would have done that right before now. They have two good ideas, MSE and the Zune. Maybe version 3.11, I liked the windows.
you can always get malwarebytes (free for personal use) and scan with it in safe mode (full scan is best) and see where that gets you, it gets most stuff.
I had one of these at work today.
Google "Manually remove antivirus.net" and after some googling you will find the registry lines and files you need to remove. YOu wont find it by searching and the website will tell you [random.exe] for the name. It truly is just random letters. Follow the first RegEdit you have to do and you will find the name of it.
Just use Combofix from bleepingcomputer.com Then run a full scan from malwarebytes. I can also confirm that Microsoft security essentials is the best free AV available.

Best current Virus Protection?

I recently got a new PC with Windows 8 and I am currently without any form of protection on it. In the far distant past I used Esets Nod32 but I have not kept up with anti-virus software in a long time and I don't know what would be the best way to go now, I would like to get something that offers good protection against Viruses, spyware, malware and all of that but I don't want to spend too much either. Not sure which would be best to get and I know the XDA community is one of the best on the Internet so I thought I would seek advice on it here because Google is useless for this kind of thing(you'll just find advertisements, opinions and 3 year old crappy posts hard to tell which to believe). Thanks for your help.
Edit: I'd also prefer something which dose not completely cripple my system.
Best virus protection is your brain and knowing how to protect yourself from the many lulz om the internet
I dont have any AV software on my windows for 3 years now, never had any issues
Also we haz a dedicated PC help thread
So i think this will be a ay-bee-four-el

Sorry didn't realize there was a thread for this. But to what you said, everyone on the planet should have virus protection, in my opinion. It's an opinion shared by nearly every IT person and every Tech site. That you don't share it is fine, that's your business because that's your PC. But *using your brain* will not protect you from viruses and malware, even if you think it will. If you haven't been infected(and just because you haven't noticed does not mean you have not been) then you have simply been lucky. I won't be taking any such chances myself, but thank you for taking the time to respond anyway and I hope you have a nice day. If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

If you're not downloading sketchy things or going to iffy websites. There's very little you're protecting yourself from. Your brain is the best antivirus.
But of course having a safeguard is better than not using one so I have avast.
Avast! is good for me,you can try it.
