Problems when restoring - files missing, MDAIII with BB GER - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

When I tried to upgrade my radio to 1.12 I saw a problem at the very last step. I wanted to restore the backup file and at the end AS said it couldn´t restore several files. Alle files seemed to be BB relevant and all databases were missing. Reason AS stated was something locked access and AS is not able to write the files.
I thought this is a problem with radio 1.12 and downgraded to 1.06 and at least I reinstalled the hole ROM Ba_tmde_12201_182_10600_ship_special again. But always AS is not able to write the files.
So BB is not working well and all databases are empty.
Is there something spezial for a restore on MDA with BB ? I even tried to deactivate the service and start to restore, no success.
Any ideas?

Pre-production problems

Hi!
I've got a pre-production version of the Qtek 9090.
The ROM version was 0.9x something and I had some troubles with it so I figured I would just update it... Shouldn't have done that
Anyway, I got hold of a strange update file, called "HA_RUU_12100_112_00125.exe" and ran it on my PC. Not that bright, one might think :?
The device would not fully boot up. I then took out the battery and waited a coupple of minutes. After that it booted up nicely. However, the device is not fully functional and when I look in the "Device Information" it says:
ROM version: 1.21.00 WWE
ROM date: 07/28/04
Radio version: DM FAIL
Protocol version: DM FAIL
PRL version: N/A
ExtROM version: 1.21.112 WWE
I've tried upgrading it using all the tools and instructions that I could find on this great forum but with no luck..
The DeviceData app brings back a strange txt-file that looks a bit like this:
PH20A1 A 1 WWE E [and some strange characters] 1.21.00 0 0 1.21.112 DM FAIL
I would be VERY grateful if someone could help me back to a fully functional device!!
Bump!
!!!Help!!!
so, why don't you just try using a non-strange file to upgrade your device then?
Help!
I am, you know!

maybe upgrading the radio stack using the SD method would solve your issue, however, you'll need an SD backup of a working Radio rom for this.
there is a 1.06.01_sd_img.rar (german i think)
and a NTRW_ImageQtec9090.rar (no idea which language)
on the ftp
THANK YOU!!!
I'll give a try right away!
What does the "NTRW"-file do?
Can I upgrade the radio stack without any 120-errors?
A quick question:
Do a use Winhex or some other tool to copy the data to the SD card?
To be more specific:
What tools do you use to copy the .nb1 file to the SD card?
Help!
xdatools is used to program sd cards with rom image.
I've tried the version of XDATools that I found on Jeff Summers page. It says "Invalid file size" and that the image should be a certain size. The Radiostack is not that size..
Anyone?!
Getting Image on XDA III / PDA2k from SD
Just use "ntrw.exe" - search forum for location. That runs in DOS and will copy the .nb1 image you can get from the ftp to an SD card in one command. Insert card/enter bootloader and it worked for me (but not the radio as it hung there - i also have a pre production model)
chris
I've got the 2.03 version of the Bootloader and it will not detect the card...
Do you know how I can upgrade it?
Strange - I had 2.03 too - but after I applied the 1.06....sd_img file from ftp it uploaded to 2.05 - so i was in the same position as you and got it working.
I am not 100% sure it was that file i tried first - it might have been
ntrw_imageQtec9090.rar also in the ftp archives.
Either way I do find some images dont work - so i also found and used psdwrite.exe and that seemed to work when writing images using ntrw.exe did not. I am sure there is something else wrong- but find that between these 2 I can create bootable Sd images that at least get the device up and running.
I am still struggling to upgrade the radio stack - as with the 0.9x version none of the "mainstream" upgrades work - they all fail complaining about the radio stack version.
Good luck - i think you must be close!
Thank you Hampers!
Progress! I got the Bootloader to accept the Qtec.nb1. It takes about 40seconds before it reacts and after that it says:
"
SD Download
=========
Selection=1
Not allow
update!
"
Quite strange, don't you think?!
Just make a copy of your 9090's ROM with romupdate.exe and ntrw and copy the firtst 416 bytes from that to the image file you are trying to flash by overwriting them. Then it will allow the update
Just make a copy of your 9090's ROM with romupdate.exe

I would like to but when I give the command "d2s", it runs a checksum test, starts to copy and finally fails with the message "Add record is error!" (Even I speak better English than that )
The SD card now contains a bit of information from my Qtek. When I try to re-flash it with this information it returns the same message as usual; "Sections=1 Not allow update!"

Restore after ROM upgrade: system files overwritten

Upgraded my Qtek9090 with the latest ROM from www.qtek.nu and noticed all BT files were up to v. 3500.
Restored the full ActiveSync backup to get my apps etc back and now I have a mixture of 2400 and 3500 BT system files.
I had hoped important system files were protected from being overwritten by older ones but obviously not... Just wondering what other files got downgraded as well...
Any idea how to upgrade ROM _and_ keep installed user applications in an easy way?
when one makes an upgrade, you should not restore, but inserting all the applications again again, if it doesn't spend that...
greetings

hi demiseh,
please do backup using such as Sprite Backup before upgrade........
http://www.klstore.com/mael/Radio 1.04.rar
this file just included Radio 1.04 upgrade only for Alpine.
restore back the backup so that you dont lost anything.....
thanks
As clustered said you should do a full back with a software like "Sprite Backup" before you start applying the new Radio Version 1.04.00, as it will hardreset your device and all data will be lost.
Go to ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Alpine and download XDA_IIi_Upgrade_v1.11.162_Radio_1.04.rar . Extract the file to a folder of your choice. Then DELETE files ms_.nbf and nk.nbf from that folder, only leave radio_.nbf in place.
Connect your device to the PC via ActiveSync, then start MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe , it will not run through completely, after a while it will get stuck. Kill the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe via Windows task manager, while leaving your device connected. Then restart MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe, the second time the update will go through.
After you finished, restore your Backup.
You will not lose your specific language settings.

Problem With Restore
upgrade done minor problem with restore from SD card... ---> at killing processes it freezes on 10seconds:/ why? any ideas?
umm, no idea! were you able to restore though anyway?
thx god yes! just now did it.
ok, here's the thing i dont understand:
1. afet hard reset - all data restored from the beginning
2. --> if all data lost -> then what happens to the available copy of Sprite Back-up on the device? its also lost correct? though i had it installed on my SD card, so its technically there, but not visible by the Device.
3. i click on the file, to load from SD card and auto-restore my device, and evrythin theoretically works fine except it freezes.
how did i fix it?
1. didnt work from PC, dunno why.
2. so what i did was install sprite back-up again, obviously crack it, and restore it manually from there ---> what happened? ---> FROZE AGAIN
3. so once i had the sprite back-up already installed once again (step 2), i just restored from the PC and this time it worked...weird...dunno what happened, what went wrong, but i was freaked out for a second & was goin2 rip my hair out. how do u guys restore? from PC or from PPC? and do u do it via the Sprite application or just by clickling the file on the PPC? more info needed hope it wont happen soon
It's probably one of the process started via the autostart that is has problems killing, try moving some things from \Windows\AutoStart to a backup folder some place, then reboot your device - try restore again - if it runs through copy the things you moved back into \Windows\AutoStart
hm...interesting. but here's another fact:
i was running in advanced mode::: i had also tried disabling the 'process kill' feature, and still at 10Seconds it froze for some reason....i dunno. i deleted the old backup on the sd, and i'm creating a new one. then i'll make a new back-up on the PC, and try restoring it once more both ways to figure it all out. freaky still

EXTROM help

Guys,
I'm new here so please be patient to me.
I have upgrated my XDA||s to WM5 with the help I found here on this site. Now I have EXTROM visible and I presume unlocked, but just in case I had run ExtromUnlocker program available at Bussdev.net. I had got an error message staright away about wrong parameters, but after that extrom unlocked message box poped up. So, I presume I have unhidden and unlocked my EXTROM. Then, I am trying to delete unwanted files, - no problems here, but after soft reset all deleted files are back to EXTROM folder. I deleted autorun link from windows startup folder so it should not run. I am lost and counting on your help.
Thanks in advance.

backup from wm2003 on wm5

ok guys i have a lil problem and i hope you'll help me to solve it...
recently ive upgraded my 9090 to wm5 and ive made a backup using sprite software... however im not able to force that piece of software to restore my inbox and contacts on the new system... i have a fresh backup, made using wm2003 xBackup software and here goes the question...
is it possible to restore xBackup's backup file on wm5 (helmi 1.3.2)?
(the file is called CompactFlashBackUpPim)
No, you can't do it. The different versions of the OS store the data differently. You need to go back to 2003, activesync your contacts etc to your PC, upgade, then re-sync. I think the upgrade guide mentions this.
I always keep mine sync'ed anyway, so doing an upgrade is a very quick process. I also keep cabs on the SD card so I can quickly install everything.
and is it a way to see the data like appointments or contacts from that backup file?
