I finally plucked up courage to upgrade my O2 XDAIIs, and thanks to the conributors to this forum & the Wiki, it all went very smoothly. My biggest gripe was reloading all my applications back again once I'd upgraded. All in all it took about 3 hours including all the fiddling about etc.
Many thanks to all

Well, I took a chance and this is what I get. It's 10:46pm and I have a PDA2k that won't even turn on now. Removed the battery and the whole thing.
Here's what happened, I have a PDA2K from Expansys. I decided to upgrade my radio from .06 to .10. I read every article regarding this and backing up very well. I took the instructions from http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Radio_1.12_Upgrade and proceeded with the backup. I did the soft reset, and put my system in the cradle. A hot-sync took place. I then went to my folder on my desktop, clicked BAupgradeut.exe and I got the screen that popped up. I followed the instructions and clicked ok. It read my old configuration and what was going to be changed, and I clicked next. Up popped a screen saying checking information on your device...then my Active Sync shutdown, XP detected a new device and said it was ready to use. I noticed that the power light (charge light) on my PDA2k went out (yet there's power to the outlet) and Active Sync never came back on. I thought "this can't be good" but proceeded to wait 20 minutes, tried to get active sync working again and it couldn't find my unit. I finally tried to kill baupgradeut (and it's still up and running with the same "checking your information" screen. I finally said screw it (after 25 minutes) and yanked my pda2k off the cradle. No power, can't do a hard reset...nothing works at all...its completely dead. Tried pulling the battery off for a couple minutes and that didn't help either.
I'm pretty stuck here and hope you guys can help me out. (Even though everyone is probably asleep.) So, I've got a really nice paper weight here. If anyone has any thoughts, pass them on over. I chose the 1.12.00 upgrade from the same page as I mentioned above if that helps. I guess my main concern is just being able to get some response from this thing. Right now I get NOTHING.
Thanks,
Tom
Now I feel like a silly twit! Turns out I had a grey screen and was in bootloader mode. Its not too bright in this room tonight and I didn't see that...could have something to do with the 4 Guinness I had. I noticed it when the light reflected off the screen. I checked the troubleshooting guide and discovered the "grey screen" problem.
I just finished the upgrade and am setting things up. Everything's just peachy.
Sorry about being such a baby. I have insurance on this too. I could have just run over it in my Land Rover and got a new one....those trucks really flatten things.
Question: I used Sprite to backup just before I did this. Can I restore without jacking anything up?
Thanks for what I'm sure would have been a lot of help and support.

Tom,
You might want to read this thread.

Hope this helps.

Hermant - Thank you very much for your reply. I just wish it came 13 hours ago.
I found it on the xda-developers somewhere that someone else posted. I was trying to find your link which I stumbled upon before. But alas, I found something. It required that I use GetData before the upgrade, which I didn't do. I followed the rest of the directions (which was similar to your link) and everything is perfect. My Radio and BT upgrades are still there. Thanks again for the help! I bookmarked it this time

Tom,
Actually even i had found this link here but now i have tried it many times and it is working perfectly.
Glad that i could help someone since i have learnt a lot from this site so now is the time to give back.

I may not know what I am talking about, but I may have found out why the problems such as double tapping.....and "wait 15 seconds and try again"...among other things are happening. I loaded Faria's AKU 3.2 12mb last week and loved it, played with all the cool toys. Then I almost instantly started getting all the symptoms that have been posted. As a last effort, I reflashed and loaded Faria's AKU 3.2 12mb. Worked awesomely for 2 days. I loaded everything that I always use: TomTom 6, Memmaid, Resco products, pocket breeze, ilauncher, and a few small programs. Smooth as silk for 2 days....I then thought I needed to change my softkeys........bam I softreset and instantly started getting the thing where you have to doubletap and my phone started doing the 15 second wait and try again.
Does anyone know how to take this off. I may be shooting in the dark, but I hope this works... I am on the cingular network here in the USA. I bet everyone here that has loaded softkeys is having this........then again It is only a guess.
It's not the root cause. I am having the "phone is not ready, wait 15 seconds and retry" problem without any softkey defined. The only way to get the phone to be ready is to reboot the phone unknown amount of times. I think the "wait 15second and retry" problem is an issue related both to the sensitivity of phone and network coverage. However I was not able to remove some of the utilities installed on that room that I don't really need. Eventually I had to re-flash the phone to a plain AKU3.2 ROM and install the utilities/tweaks that I know of that I need. But I still hope eventually there will be a more robust Faria AKU3.2 ROM to be released.

I am on TMo and I am not having this issue. I had the 15 sec thing only on the first day of install (weeks ago) and I have not seen it since. I am not running TomTom or PB...

Well, after hours of research and searching and reading, I finally decided to flash my T-Mobile Wing. Yay! First, I did Hard-SPL from HERE and followed the instructions to the point. The CanonYang splash screens came up and my Wing loaded into Windows Mobile just fine. From there, I installed ASerg's policies again and ran Itje's Touch-IT Lite for the Wing "1__UPGRADE_ROM.bat" and followed the instructions it prompted me with. An error screen came up on my phone saying "Unknown Status" but I just left it alone. After about 10 minutes, Itje's RUU completed and I hard reset my phone.
Now, only the first CanonYang splash screen comes up and my phone locks up there. Did I just brick my phone? What do I do to fix this?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
*EDIT* In my haste and fear of the "brick", I chose to post a thread rather than do the obvious that many will most likely state. If it helps my situation, please note that it's nearly 5am in Chicago, I have not slept yet, and I'm pretty much terrified I just made a $300 paper weight. I'm certain many of you would do the same.
Yes, I did fix my problem... and yes, I found my answer by searching the forums... and yes, I will buy you all cookies! Itje gets a candy bar though
lol soz
press the camera button and at the same time use the stylus to push the reset ..... a colourful screen will come up ...... connect it to your computer and run a official rom..... you can either look from some or get windows mobile 6 from htc.com if you sign up to the eclub and just find it from there.
hope this helps
i will be recieving my new at&t tilt on tues. i have been reading alot about it over the last few days and i have noticed alot of chatter about having a bunch of un-necessary software pre loaded onto the device. i was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on how to optimize mine in the easiest way possible.. this will be my first smartphone running windows mobile so plz forgive me if i dont understand some stuff. thanks in advance for any ideas..
The first thing you should do is read all the wiki's that you can on this site. I came to this site many months ago and through using the wiki's I managed to learn how to flash a new rom (think of it as an altered version of windows mobile), how to change spl's (the equivalent of a computer's BIOS), flashing new radio's (The phone's parameters for call quality, signal acquiring, and gps capability), and now I'm cooking my own rom and hope to have it ready by the end of the month. Search for answers to your questions first so you don't get flamed, but if you need to post, know that these are probably the most knowledgable people around for this and they will go out of their way to help you. HOWEVER, know this, after you become accustomed to flashing your phone, it's a nonstop never ending addiction to reach perfection.
thanks so much, i found the wiki's now and am reading thru them..
Don't get overwhelmed when you try this stuff. Follow the directions and and don't try to do too much at once. Have fun, Welcome to the forum
One quick way to get rid of a lot of the bloat is to do a hard reset of the software ( hold down both soft keys and hit reset button by USB port with stylus, when prompted hit green button. If no prompt to"hit send button" then you did it wrong) then as soon as the customization screen comes on do a soft reset (same as hard reset without holding soft keys.)
This won't do much but keep a lot of ATT specific software from being installed. IT is a start until you are comfortable with flashing.
Also you might need to reset ATT settings for internet if you do this. I am not sure though.
My stock T-Mobile Vario 3 has been performing fine for two years, until yesterday when for some reason Bluetooth would not enable when I clicked on the icon (otherwise the phone seemed fine) so I did a basic Windows shutdown/reboot as I have plenty of times in the past.
The boot initially got stuck on the first white T-Mobile boot screen with the ROM/etc revision numbers on, and would not go any further. I removed and re-inserted the battery and tried again several times, and after a couple of tries it managed to get as far as the first green Windows load screen before sticking again.
I think it must have hard-reset itself at some point during these attempts though, as now it will sometimes go as far as the default "tap screen to calibrate display" message, which I can tap and then see the central cross-hair. If I tap on this quickly enough it sometimes moves the cross-hair up to the top-left, but then it locks and won't do anything else unless I disconnect the battery again. That's the best I've been able to get it to do so far.
Help! Any ideas?
Andre
I came to the conclusion that I wasn't going to get my old system back so I forced a hard reset myself (two soft-buttons & reset hole) and it has now reloaded to factory default, but as least it's working which I rather doubted it would be.
Photos, music etc were all on the memory card, and contacts/calendar info were daily synced to my PC, so there only some old SMSs lost which isn't too bad.
Oh well, I guess I can now look around for a more modern ROM for it (now that there's nothing on there to backup/reinstall). Anyone got any particular favourites? (as there do seem to be a lot around!)

Since there are a lot roms out there, the only one who knows what is looking for is you..yes...you...Andre because, what's favorite for me probably will not be "favorite" for you, that's why there are so many options out there. Try a couple of them (6.1 or 6.5) it does not take a long time to flash them (< 10 minutes). After that, you will come up with your favorite as many users in these forums. You will definitely will enjoy the flashing and testing the different roms!. That's what I feel LoL
