[wm5] media player problem - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

hiya guys, my first faulty experience with wm5 for BA. Ok when i try and listen to music on my sd card, it plays but plays like a scratched cd. ive had it before where i have had too many programs running, so ending all worked that time, but this time nothing is running, and its still doing it.
should i reflash my device with wm5?

No. I'm experiencing the same. Try TCPMP (Formerly betaplayer), it plays music better, but still, the music still has some "gaps" and stops for a few secs within in it sometimes :\. This is an overall problem with the WM5 sound system under BA...

overclock
are you doing any overclock ? it might go if you uninstall or stop the overclock software. This was the reason why I went back to WM2003SE !

Crazy... I have no problems with MP3's from SD Card on my BA w/ WM5...

Mild skipping/lagging with HT820's.

I don't expereince any problems with playback when at stock clock. But I don't run any apps on my device other than phoneAlarm lite. I would suspect an app is either sucking cpu or leaking memory or just otherwise not behaving nicely. Do you have anything that stays resident in memory, like Today screen plugins or other apps that run in the background?
or maybe DirectPush?

Nope, just use pop3 with it set to check the server every 5 minutes.
Ok, I found that media player kills a bunch of memory, and figured that was the problem. I tried with TCPMP which uses a LOT less memory, and it still skips, though it doesn't seem to be as bad. It's only with music, it never cuts out with phone calls.
Figured it could be card read speed, so I moved a file to device memory, still skips
Ok, last post for a while. It's definately bluetooth related, as I can be listening to a song, it skips every 20-30 seconds, then I can turn off bluetooth and route the audio to the speaker and it stops skipping. I've tried this both with streaming audio via SiriusCE and with playing music files from my storage card. There's definately a bluetooth related issue, either with the bluetooth settings, radio, headset, something. Any input?

I'm going to try removing my weather plugin and today plugin. I'd really like to have streaming audio, I can open IE and check the weather.
I got it working about 90%, but in order to do so, I had to remove VoiceCommand (Might be able to install it again, I don't think it had much effect) SPB Weather and Resco Today plugin. Sucks to have to kill the functionality of the phone just to make a feature work, and it still doesn't work 100%, any ideas?

since you've stripped it down, you might want to try installing the aku 2.2 rom i just put on the ftp. it has a2dp. it may or may not improve things.
it does not have omapclock built in (yet) so you'd need to install that on your own if you want/need it.

I might do that after I back some stuff up.
on a fresh rom install, no plugins, etc...the headphones still skip. but they even skip when i'm hooking them up to my computer, though not as much. what's the bitrate of the mp3's you're listening to? i know the bandwidth of bluetooth is 768kbps but maybe bitrate does have a factor in this after all.
I have the exact same problem. Tried multiple headsets and same thing. Very annoying. After a minute or so just a blank skip for half a second.
I'm using the 2.17 rom. Thought about upgrading to the 2.2 rom but the problem seems to still be there.
I'm running MS Voice Commander, Resco explorer, omap.
Some things I tried that made no difference:
- tried multiple headsets HT820 and GlobalSat 820
- Overclocked 240 256 no difference
- Originally had 192kb MP3 files. Tried downsampling to 128 WMA files. Still same problem.
I may just give up on the bluetooth thing. I carry the phone on a belt case anyway. Not that big of a deal to have a cord...

The thing is, some people report that they get a skip every ~10 minutes or so, which I can tolerate. Why are we getting a skip every minute or so?

Tilt: Music Playback Audio Problem (Glitch 'skip' heard every 3-4 minutes)

When listening to MP3 music on my Tilt, I hear an annoying glitch or blip (albeit brief) which occurs every (approx) 3-4 minutes. Though it can be heard thru the Tilt's built in speaker too, it's most evident when heard thru headphones connected via MiniUSB to 3.5" stereo adapter.
If I go back and replay the same musical passage where the glitch occurred, the glitch isn't heard, so the problem isn't in the MP3 file. In addition to playing the music utilizing Windows Media Player, I also installed 3rd party media player: "Pocket Player 3.5" and maximized the audio buffer settings, but this made no difference/improvement.
Considering the fact that a number of other 8925 Tilt owners have also reported the same problem, while prior model 8525 owners report they don't experience this problem, suggests that the 8925 Tilt may possess a unique software/hardware issue (bug?) which needs to be addressed and rectified. This said, are any HTC Kaiser/TyTnII owners experiencing this?
I encourage At&t Tilt & HTC Kaiser TyTnII owners who enjoy listening to music on their Tilt, to please take time to critically listen to music (MP3's) on your phone and report YOUR findings.
Thanks for your input,
Jazz
No problems with stereo at all-even with bluetooth stereo-not talking about calls-stereo definetly not an issue here. sorry, but cannot repro your issue. Have a 4 gig SD card with 3 gigs of tunes that I listen to all the time, no issue like you report.
Alemaker, first of all, great to hear you're not experiencing music playback problems on your Tilt. That said . . .
The problem I'm experiencing has nothing to do with stereo at all, but a glitch (blip or skip sound) heard every 3-4 minutes while listening to MP3 music. It's most evident heard thru headphones (connected to Tilt utilizing a usb to 3.5" stereo adapter) but can also be detected when played directly via the Tilt's built in speaker as well.
Here are a couple of links to threads on the AT&T- HTC forum where others have reported this same problem:

I admit, I have noticed this also. And yes, its not a glitch with the song. The files are fine. It's seems more like a time-based issue, or perhaps a buffering issue.
And yes, I noticed it with the HTC audio player, WMP, and PocketPlayer. It doesn't bother me much, but I definitely notice it, like you say, every 3-4 min or so. And it happens with BT A2DP or with wired headphones. It is very brief (like not even 100 ms.). I'm reading all my music from a 6GB Sandisk Class 4 MicroSD card. But it happened with my old 2GB MicroSD card also.
Try this. Lately, using PocketPlayer, I haven't noticed it as much. I set the cross-fade on for 4 seconds, and I don't think it happens as much if at all. This again leads me to think it's something to do with buffering...But I have no idea. It does bother me slightly, but not enough to get concerned about. I mostly listen to music while I'm working out, so I just ignore it...

Could Music Playback Glitch be tied to specific OS ROM Version?
Realizing the fact now that some Tilt owners are experiencing the problem whiles others aren't, is making me wonder if perhaps the problem may have to do with what specific OS (Rom version) is installed on your Tilt:
My AT&T Tilt's OS version is:
Rom version: 1.57.502.2
Rom date: 8/25/07
Protocol version: 22.45.88.07H
Alemaker & jomo25: curious to know what OS (ROM version) is installed on your Tilt?
ROM check procedure:
Start > Settings > System Tab > Device Information
Thanks, Jazz
I also get this on my v1615. Not as often as every 3-4 minutes, but if I listen to a whole album it will happen a couple of times. I'd say the first time it happens would be around the 4 minute mark though as it usually skips in the first or second track.
Rom version: 1.56.161.4
Rom date: 9/12/07
Protocol version: 22.45.88.07H
I get this too on my Vario III. It's not quite long enough to be annoying, but it is enough to be noticeable.
I've only been using the HTC media player and assumed it was a problem with that. Apparently not though.
if you use pocket player.... under advanced optiones, set decoder priority above normal to see if it helps!
I get the blip too! Ever so slightly annoying, but releived its not just my Kaiser.
T-Mobile Vario III
ROM version: 1.56.110.4
ROM Date: 09.01.07
Protocol version: 22.45.88.07H
Same Issue Here
I also have the same problem with brief skips during MP3/WMA playback.
Since my Tilt was running the HTC WWE Ship Rom within 15 minutes of arriving, I cannot say if the problem exists on the stock AT&T rom.
However, I have experienced this issue on the WWE HTC rom, austinsync's BIGstorage rom, and XDA-Live 1.0 rom.
Could it possibly be an issue with the pagepool size?
Are you listening to music that 'mixes' in to the next track such as dance music? For some reason there has always been a glitch as it starts the next song, no matter what player or ROM. The only answer i found was to convert the whole album to 1 single track.

I have about 70 songs from a bunch of different artists. I usually hear the "gap" at random times in random songs, but never near the beginning or end of a track.

sorry, still not having issues, can't repro this at all
I had that problem on my TyTN II! But I fixed it eventually.
Mine was caused by S2U2. After a couple of seconds S2U2 would activate even while playing music. That caused the glitch in sound. I simply removed S2U2 and that solved it.
Hope this helps you!
TILT "Skipping Sound"
I am experiencing "Skipping" sound too, VERY ANNOYING. We should have brought a Nokia 95 (Unlock) or IPhone. Learn and live. Owners of the IPhone and Nokia 95 are not having audio skipping problem. There is a design flaw in the circuit. Remember the Tilt is "First" generation. We will have to wait for Tilt version IX for the audio to be skip free.
The Solution: Buy an ITouch for X'mas. The audio is "PERFECT".

Bluetooth A2DP

Hi Guys,
any of you experience losing system sound after using A2DP? I have tested several times and this happens without fail.
After using A2DP the sound output seems to be unable to switch back to the phone speaker. Meaning that no ringing when calls comes in, no sound when playing music etc....
The only solution is to reset the phone then it'll be back to normal.
Another problem is with the camera. Also after using A2DP you can use the camera. It's just a blank screen with the camera icon in the center. This also will be resolved after a soft reset.
any help is much appreciated.
I have this issue when using HTC's music player. No issue if I use WMP tho.
I have this problem too.
Also when using AVRCP with the HTC player, the commands are sometimes send to the windows media player.
Anyone else ?
This is now the 3rd thread on this topic... search and contribute to one of the others.
Radio and A2DP?
Has anyone tested if it's possible to use and listen to the built-in RDS radio with a Bluetooth A2DP headset? Thx.
Anybody can confirm that A2DP problem occurs only with HTC player?

love and hate relationship with diamond now
hah
anyway... i had yer a2dp problem too
and it was worse.. i end call.. the sound switches to the speaker.. so can u believe it.. in the train.. everyone hears my punk music........ so not cool
for yer case... i did sth and it worked
when you wish to terminate yer a2dp headset.. do the following:
1. off yer headset
2. turn off bluetooth
by doing 1 followed by 2.. it sort of "safely removes" the headset.. try it.. i hope it works for u

Agree, though there seems still no 1 fits all solution by linking A2DP - AVRCp to another player like Coreplayer - Pocket player.
Hope at least one thread of 3 will seek attention of a reg tweak expert

I think that is a big issue on Diamond and that some experienced dev must have it in mind. In other thread (don't remember it now) , somebody mailed HTC for this problem and the answer was that this isue is because he don't use HTC accesories.Bluetooth and a2dp are universal standards and have nothing to do with HTC accesories.
I suffered this yesterday. Was listening to music, recieved a call - answered call, ended call - music continues out of phone speaker!
Also whenever i disconnect from bluetooth stereo - no ringtones, no alerts can be heard. There is another bug if vibration is involved , it continually vibrates and doesnt stop. You HAVE to soft reset.
This is a serious problem. Why doesnt HTC test these things?
have u tried the rom 1.93?

I flashed yesterday with 1.93. After receiving a phone call the music continued on the phone speaker (not in headset) but my phone doesn't mute . I had no enough time to test more but I hope that ,,muting'' problem is solved in this rom
Im using the ROM Diamon Project V2 and it works fine. I use A2DP & TF3D Music Player quite alot and have not had any issues whatsoever.
A small surprise for all.
Put this application into windows\
tap once to activate it and tap again to configure.
in the configuration menu, set avcrp to the music player that you need.
for my case, i use gsplayer. and viola ...
this is what i used to do on my non-touchflo3d diamond.
u can try and see if it works for you.
I tried it on my german HTC Diamond but without success ..I used as path
"\Interner Speicher\programme\coreplayer\player.exe"
I also have this problem but not always!
Ruff-Ruff, You could make the difference here.
Will try to link with Pocket Player. if that works, than you're my Chinese hero ;-)

Turning the Tilt into an effective MP3 player

Alright, simply put: I want to use my Tilt to replace my old MP3 player.
I installed PocketPlayer and got an 8 gig MicroSD card. Filled the card about half-full with music, and plugged it in.
This is the weird thing. The first time I put it in, PocketPlayer recognizes all the files (1200 or so), and they play without issue.
The problem is, if I exit the program and try again later, only about 60 files are still in the library.
When I check the card with File Explorer, I only see those files. If I take the card out and open it on my PC, everything's still in there.
So my question is, why is it that my Tilt isn't able to keep all these files available to me?
Any suggestions or alternatives would be greatly appreciated.
i would try not to place all the files in 1 dir but put them in sub dirs if you dont already to see if it makes a difference
never had the issue myself but my lib is a tree struct with artist->album->tracks
hmm, I personally use media player so i have my db or artists/geners/albums etc
My card is 4gb with a boat load of songs on it, have you tried using a diffrent player to confirm its not pocket thats not causing the problem ?
do the files disapear from you another(total commander/etc) file explorer within windows mobile as well ?
um my 2c's
I have 1.4G of music on mine, in appropriate directories, and it's okay with Pocket Player.
However, I find that Pocket Player uses a lot of battery playing them. I don't know if it's because I have them in ogg format or what, but the Tilt gets quite warm when playing for a while and the battery drop is pretty high, although I haven't actually measured it yet. I should do that tomorrow.
I haven't had any problems w/ TCPMP & my 8 gb card. I have all my music in storage card\my music\'artist names', and all the playlist files saved in my music
the htc audio manager is good no problems when using it with 8gb card. but the repeat function doesnt work does anyone have the same problem???
I use Mortplayer (Freeware) which is better than any commercial app out there. I have lots of MP3's on my 8gb card and always reads my library. It can also display album art. It also has presets and extra Bass etc etc. Try it out.
Does your Tilt go boooom?
Okay, re-organizing the music into directories worked.
Now I'm faced with the problem of getting an effective way to listen to it.
I have a good set of headphones, but the USB-headphone adapter is another story.
I don't like the fact that the adapters make it so that the microphone doesn't work. What's the best solution for an adapter? Or should I just give up and go Bluetooth?

I personally like the Motorola S9 bluetooth headset. It all depends on the style you like but they sound pretty good. For bluetooth, it also depends on how much you'll be listening to it between charges.
I use the Plantronics convertible headset. Without the earbud it you can listen or make calls like a standard bluetooth. With the earbud you get stereo sound. The fit is dependant on your ears, though. They give you several options, including isolating buds, but you have to find what fits your ear best. Sound is great, and the bud make stereo convenient. I keep the bud in my pocket, so it is always available.
I use the latest Pocketplayer without a proble and like that the new version supports bluetooth control button like next song and play/pause. I still use TCMP to play my videos and with those two you cant go worng.

mp3 codec problem

Hi,
I've just got my new HTC Diamond and I've got a problem. Whenever I play anything that's in mp3 there's only noise. The noise can't be stopped. Only soft reset works. This happens in every audio application even when I play a video with mp3 compressed audio. When I tried to play video with mpeg2 audio compression everything worked fine.
ROM is original one. Hardreset doesn't help.
I recorded the noise with mic:

Pls pls help
Thanks
what program are you using?
well I tried play it in the touch flo interface player after hardreset and in core player... then I tried conduits pocket player
but now I'm trying to play it in some other player (pocket music) and it seems working now !!!
how is that possible? WM6.1 does't have mp3 codecs ?
it does have MP3 codecs, fresh out the box it should play MP3s and WMAs either thru Media Player (which sucks) or thru the TouchFlo interface...
strange one that.
The only thing i can think of is that you have installed a program which has corrupted the codec?
no no I tried it in touchflo interface on freshly hardreseted system with no installed application...weird
very strange, might be a hardware problem then. is it intermittent?
after installing pocketmusic everything still works fine
funny... the problem's back.. grrr
i think i'll just return the phone to the shop (for the second time ! in the first case phone had display defect)
yeh, i got two dodgy ones, got my money back the second time and went elsewhere!
