Hi guys, I am having some little problems with my Xda2i as following.
1. I use button lock to stop using the camera button (as I always accidentally touch it then camera starts, many time I open camera without notice for long time till my battery almost gone!!) Every time I soft reset, it always turn to defalut mode.
2. Also the same happen with "today". I show some items such as Worldmate. When soft reset, it disappears (though I ticked to show it always)
3. Favorites network also the same, ticked it then changed after reset.
Could anybody please help me?.
Many many thanks in advance..
do what i have done removed the camera from my start up prgrams and allocated the button to none that way it can't activate
as for the others i'm not to sure ,i'm sure some1 else will be able to help
Sounds like somehow the registry has become read only. Have a look in the startup folder and see if there any programs in there that shouldn't be running. Also has this started after some program has been installed?
Hi Pug, checked my startup and found below program lists
-camera_detect
-checkautorun
-clear_notify
-IA_CID_start
-PHM Traylaunch
-PhotocontactPro
-Pocketnavy
-poutlook
-RunBT
-spb GPRS monitor
-STK
It seems like you doubt, it happens after program installation.
Any more advice?
Many many thanks
I don't doubt you at all, just trying to help you solve this.
PHM hasn't got a registry restore feature has it? If it has try disabling it. I don't use it so I don't know.
Don't know what that Pocket Navy is so can't comment on that.
If you delete Camera_Detect you can assign the camera button to something else if you want and the button assignment will survive a soft reset.
Sorry for my aweful english, Pug.
This problem wa before PHM installed, it should be ok (anyway I am not knowledgable to know if it has registry or not. I am too new hands)
Pocketnavy is "CloseAll" I like it more because it has window to see running programs and can select to close which one. THe most important is it free.
I will try to fix it as you recommend. Very appreciated your time to help.
Thanks again
Hi folks,
Is there a way to remap the soft keys on the Kaiser?
I am sure there is; I would appreciate it if someone explained to me how.
I had to uninstall Pocket Informant and I can't access the original Calendar app on the left soft key!!!
Many thanks,
MAC

SoftKey Changer
There you go.. Install, soft reset, and its under Start -> Settings -> System
I gave it a try but my expectations were that would be what that soft key would be no matter what program I'm in, but that is not the case. I guess I'll use somethign else like AE Button to get teh keys I want.
Thanks for the post though.
[EDIT]
By the way, after uninstalling, the button assignments remain. Interesting.
Yep use AE Button. It's an amazing tool! Although be careful what you change as it can mess up your device used carelessly.

Thanks very much. I will give this a try.
In the meantime I had to restore a previous version from SPB Backup and this got sorted. I have decided not to re-install Pocket Informant 8 as it caused some isues with ringtones and performance.
I put this on my HTC Tilt and it works awesome, exactly what i was looking for to change the two soft keys.
Hi there, hope everyone is well.
I installed the softkey changer cab , and it seemed to install fine. I was able to find it under settings with no problem and set the left softket to 'new sms'. However when I try to actualy use this from the homescreen i get an error message saying:
"The file 'tnsms' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components could not be found. If the problem persists try reinstalling or restoring this file."
I have tried reinstalling, but got the same problem. I can still send an sms if I go through contacts, or messaging, but would love to have this as a working softkey as it tends to be the function I use the most.
Other than installing google maps and opera mini, there have been no changes made since I received the phone a few days ago. It is a standard HTC tytn II.
I'm completely new to this, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks, James.

Essentially, change the value of the key to /Windows/(your SMS program)
Mine was tmail.exe.
Now I wonder... how do I not go to the messages screen and go directly to a new SMS?
I'm having the same problem on a Tilt.

Thanks for the advice, I will probably give that a go when I've stopped being so scared of changing registry stuff.
I did find another app that does the trick though. Just make sure you add a shortcut to 'new sms' first (bottom option of the config screen), you should then be able to assign this to either softkey.
Works for me, and I'm able to go straight to a new sms from the homescreen.
Hope it helps, all the best.

A lot of people here have problems with their windows 6.1 and GPS. It seems some people have more problems than others, but someone on this forum has found a registry setting which solves my problem. At least until I soft reset my device, this causes the registry setting to go back to standard.
I’m talking about this post:

This solution helped for me:
The problem was in the registry of QuickGPS.
I changed the region settings of my PPC to Dutch, but QuickGPS doesn’t get this settings. So I assume it’s downloading the wrong GPS information.
After I changed the following registry setting I had a fix almost immediately :
[HKLM] - Software\HTC\QuickGPS\region changed from -- to NL
After using GPS Test I got a fix very fast.
Using:
Kaiser
OS DCS 1.4 WM6.1
R 1.64.06.04

Believe it or not but this works for me as I live in Holland but I think this could work for everyone who has problems regarding 6.1 and GPS no matter what radio you use. All we have to find out what the region codes are.
But this is a temporary fix, as I said soft-reset causes the setting to jump back to ‘--’ again and GPS is very slow whit the fix. Is it possible to create some sort of cab file or setting to set the region setting in the registry to user settings at reboot or wake-up? Or is altering QuickGPS also possible? If someone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

After thinking about this on my way to work, I came across the fact that since I use KaiserTweak it will set the default QuickGPS settings back, which of course has its region set to "--". So i'm assuming that's why when you reset your phone thats why it resets your settings again

Then I will look into the kaisertweak’s XML file and try to remove the QuickGPS settings and see if it works. Will keep you guys updated.
edit: Okay, this does not make any difference. So we have to find a way to set the user setting on every wake-up or boot. Does anyone know how to do this?

QuickGPS runs as a service (a very annoying one if you don't disable the audio & popup and vibrate notification immediately ).
Have you killed QuickGPS via task manager before editing the registry and then soft resetting? (I use dotfred's, best task manager + utils proggie out!)
If the application is re-writing the registry constantly with the settings it started with, then that may be the reason why editing the settings doesn't work and why it also doesn't stick.
Give that a try...
Hope this helps!

Hi _Alex_,
Thanks for your input.
I did try that, but unfortunately it still does not keep the same settings.
What I did was soft reset, change registry, soft reset - Then I had noticed that it kept the settings, but then I did a complete shut down and power up and then again, registry settings were back to '--"
I'm using the standard ATT ROM and the wierd thing for me is that I used the GSP (TomTom) on Tuesday with no issues. I tried to use it today and am unable to connect at all to the GPS via TomTom, Google Maps, or QuickGPS.

But did you kill QuickGPS before editing the registry and proceeding to the soft reset? It runs as a hidden service, which is why I recommend using dotfred's task manager, because the standard HTC task manager might not show it running.

If you use Alexs kitchen, i think you can edit the Rgu file under region to reflex where you are and cook the package back into your rom and it would always reflex the region you choose?
I've not tested it, but would a MortScript in the startup folder not do the job?
I made a little MortScript and added it to startup:
Code:
While (1)
Sleep (60000)
If NOT regKeyEqualsString ("HKLM", "Software\HTC\QuickGPS\", "region", "SE")
RegWriteString ("HKLM", "Software\HTC\QuickGPS\", "region", "SE")
EndIf
EndWhile
This works and keeps the "SE"-setting (for Sweden), but having the script running constantly isn't exactly optimal as it uses processing power and thus adding to battery-drain. Anyone have any ideas on a different way of making the script, which is more effective/power-saving? Or is there an even better way to make the registry key stick?
Hi all, after reading numerous articles about how to fix my issue with GPS, I've managed to find a fix using the UK radio rom compatible with Dutty's 6.1 rom. What I found out was the my first lock always never locked or took forever. So, what I did was go to the registry and left the key:
"HKLM", "Software\HTC\QuickGPS\", "region" to "--"
Then for the first time, after a hard-boot, (power off/on), I had to do this once:
1. Start up GPSTool
2. Change the setting to "Warm Start" and click "open".
3. Leave the app running and open up my TOMTOM application.
4. Give it about a minute or two and then it would lock, no problems.
5. I then, exited out of TOMTOM and closed the GPSTool.
So, for the next time I need to start a GPS, enabled tool, I would just start it up and no problems, it locks right away, until the next hard-boot. Then I would do this again. Kinda stinks, but this was the ONLY working solution for now because I don't feel like flashing my phone again. I have many apps installed and it takes forever to reinstall everything. Hope this was helpful for some people. Enjoy!

Well, looks like GPSGate fixed another phone... hehe, very happy now!! Thanks all for mentioning the program!

I don't understand the link between:
- the registry key "HKLM", "Software\HTC\QuickGPS\", "region"
- and what you said about GPSTool
In the end how do you solve the problem with the region ?
Chris
The GPSTool is built into the Dutty's 6.1 ROM. Don't get that confused with the GPSGate application. They are two seperate apps.
In order for this to work, I set had to set my the registry entry "region" from "US" to "--". The full path location is listed above. I think when I ran the QuickGPS utility, it set my region to "US" in the registry. You will have to regedit it back to "--" then try what I did, or it may not work. It didn't for me until I changed it back to default, which is "--". I remember reading somewhere here that a "warm boot" was clearing the RAM within the GPS hardware, so I played around with the idea of it running, while starting up a GPS enabled application and got it to work.
But I eventually decided to use the GPSGate application which solved my problem, without having to run the GPSTool method. Note that I got a quicker lock, after regediting the region area back to "--" and running the GPSGate application. Usually the first lock would never happen or take well over 10 min. Now, the first lock is with 1-2 min. which is fine for me and every subsequent time I need to use a GPS enabled application, it would lock right-away, within seconds, until the next hard-boot (power off/on). Hope that clears things up a little.

I've managed to delete some items/options from my today screen. I'm using the o2 interface.
I'm missing the running programs icon from the bottom right of the screen. Plus i used to have memory and volume settings (used to be able to select normal, loud etc etc) I've noticed the whole menu is missing from the Today in Settings.
Does anyone know how i can get this all back? Somethings been deleted when i was installing regedit, but i dont know what it was.
Thanks in advance.

I dont think anybody can help ... unless experts know how to add registry entry for these 2 item with the .cab files better still ..
I only can think .. there is a program ..can extract whole wm registry out to one file then can compare others file ..and spot out the diff.
Just had a thought. if I back up my files and contacts. Then reset the phone back to factory it might reinstate whatevers missing.
Will post how I get on
Yep, that worked... factory settings and automatic o2 program reinstalled everything back as it should be
Hi guys.
I'm new to the Windows Mobile world and only got my Xperia X1 a couple of weeks back. I want to get the TouchFLO 3D interface on there.
However, I want to use CABs which allow me to switch to the TF3D interface and back out again to Xperia, rather than using a cooked rom.
I've looked around and at first it seemed fairly simple, but then the installation wouldn't work because the file didn't have certification security (or something like that).
I've seen articles saying you have to install older versions first, and almost all seem to point to cooked roms.
Does anybody know of a way to install the TF3D interface from a CAB file, and be able to switch in and out of it, like you can do with Spb Mobile Shell 3.0.1?
I have Spb Mobile Shell 3.0.1 and Spb Weather installed, but I really want the TF3D interface... the weather animations on it are absolutely amazing!
Any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Sonny
If you check out the stickies in this section, one of them is all about programs, panels and tweaks.

Going through it, there is a specific one about installing TF3D as a cab and then running it as a panel.
Wow! Thanks Zenith.

I'm now going to install Touch-IT_Blackstone_Manila_HD_FULL.cab and see how the applications work.

Issues With Right Selection Button
Not sure if this is a known and shared issue. Is anybody else having the following problem..?
After installing Touch-IT_Blackstone_Manila_HD_FULL.cab, my right-hand selection button (the one above the OK button) is not working correctly. E.g. on the Today screen, it does not take you to 'Contacts'.
The left-hand selection button is fine, and it does correctly take you to the 'Phone' screen.
The right hand button is functioning though, but it seems to just be working like the 'Hang-up' button. If I go into an app and press it, it takes me back to the Today screen, and the app remains open in the task manager.
I got a little worried and decided to revert back to the original setup of my phone by using Sony's update tool. The right-hand selection button began to work fine again. After re-installing Touch-IT_Blackstone_Manila_HD_FULL.cab, I've got the problem again.
I'm guessing this may be down to a registry change. Anybody have any idea if and how you could change this through the registry, and which regkey to amend? Or is there a tweak/fix for this issue?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Regards
Sonny

ManilaToday.dll Fixed The Issue!
Thanks Himuraken!
The ManilaToday.dll fixed the issue. Replaced the one in my Windows directory and now I don't have to change the button settings after a reboot.
And just for the record, Ipporek, I have Daran's B3 CAB and I was still getting the issue before Himuraken provided me with this ManilaToday.dll.
Problem sorted, now to look at installing the essential software cabs for TF3D. Installed Youtube yesterday, seems to work okay. Will check out some of the others later.

glad it work for you. i forgot to mention that credit goes to the person that provided this in the touch itJe v7 thread. not sure who it was so please forgive me.
Hi, it is my first post in a long time. Now I'm Xperia user.
I tried to download the today.dll but the link is gone. Additionally, my manila is not working: for some unexplained reason the program keeps trying to enter but did not succeed. It starts and then restart without opening.
Can somebody help me? I'm not inclined to try a Rom with manila for in that case I lose the "Ç" key and the letter recognition.
I use the Brazilian Sony Rom version from April 23, 2009.
Thanks, in advance!
Manila not working on Brazilian Xperia
Hi, this is my first post in a very long time. I tried to install this on my Xperia but got 2 errors:
1 - the right hard key problem and the file Today.dll is no more available at the said link
2 - the manila tries to start but does not enter. It keeps restarting but to no avail!
Please, some help is in order! I use brazilian Sony Rom and a cooked Rom is not na option since I would loose the hard "Ç" key and the on screen letter recognizer.
Also, I could not put the "Transcriber" to work.
Thanks
KMur
