When the BA's connecting to the WiFi, it almost locks up. I don't think that it was so bad under WM2003. Is it possible to lower the priority of that, or something? Overclocking doesn't change anything, btw.
For the life of me I cant Work out what you mean.
MY BA under WM5 works fine under wifi (untill it goes into suspend mode and I have to turn the wifi on and off).
What I have noticed with Hackmaster is that the IE takes a lot of CPU usage. Never noticed a lock up.
Maybe he means when wifi is connecting it slows the BA down so much it appers to have locked up. On mine it does seem to lock up but only for a second or two. I do use Pocket Hackmaster though.
Exactly. When WiFi's connecting, everything stops. And I too use PHM to overclock.

I had my BA suspended in the pocket near a school yesterday, and suddenly it warned me about having found a new WiFi network. And it was suspended! I'm 100 % sure, since I don't have any software that can turn off the screen and leave the unit running. When I took it up from the pocket, it was on (and that didn't happen by accident either, since I have locked all buttons except for the power button, and I had just put it in the pocket from the passive car holder, where it wasn't on either).
This is with the WiFi fix, that I really like since I almost always need the WiFi when I turn on the unit. But what the heck's going on?
turn off wi-fi and reset
It happened the same to me after the wi-fi fix. I believe you can get rid of this automatic wake up if you turn off wi-fi and reset after 10 seconds.
cheers
fucsia
Thanks! So that will only turn it off temporarily? Most of the time I want WiFi to come on when I turn on the BA.
Hi guys i like to use wireless alot, and at home i use wireless to chat and other softwares
that need comunications ...
I used to TOGGLE SCREN on other PocketPC´s and leave the wifi runing on the PocketPC
with the connections that i need.... with the softwares running.
So with TYTN2 i am not able to do that... everything i try doesnt work.... when i toggle screen with WIFI ON and CONNECTED
and leave the machine running, i am not able to keep the wifi CONNECTED... every time i turn screen back on WIFI does a
new connection.....
I tried to toggle screen with :
- Windows Media Player toggle screen option
- psShutXP
This is a real FAILURE for ppl that like to leave wireless on @ home....

You could never put the phone in standby on wifi on the heremes. I *****ed when I was new to hermes and was told that is to save power. I dont remember about just turning the backlight off though.
Yes its a really ***** PROBLEM!!!!
I am pissed off... you cant image .....
Other PPC can do this.....
- Disable autoPower off in POWER OPTIONS.
- Toggle SCreen
And wifi keeps conected and ON but with TYTN2 i am not ABLE TO THIS !!!!!!

sucks, but I am not surprised
I had the same problem when streaming. When I lock the screen with the power button on my treo I'd lose the stream. But this doesnt happen if I use scrsaver.exe from PHM. I posted it here in post 2 http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=139884 just change the extension to exe of course and run the exe on the ppc
It turns the screen off and locks the buttons. On the treo you would turn the screen back on with the center button on the 5way. Hope this works for you. Its been a jewel for me.
its to save power. using wifi uses SO much power and its impractical. I have yet to see a PPC that does NOT do this. Some "seem" to not do it but i assume that it just "keeps the connection active" and when it does re-connect back up it continues to send data, but gives a false sense of it being on (correct me if i'm wrong)
simple soloution: Connect the AC adapter to your TytnII and the screen backlight may turn off but the device will remain on (you can still see the screen) and thus keeping your connection. Not the ideal, but a 4hrs battery life with wifi on? not my idea of a good idea
Edit thingy:
Btw its not a huge bug .. very misleading topic title!!!!

From what I read it IS a huge bug, and.... you're wrong
Just kidding, but WiFi is supposed to suspend when device is put in suspend mode, sure. But of course not when just the screen is turned off. And every ppc should act that way..

I believe you can toggle this behavior with START/SETTINGS/CONNECTIONS/Wireless LAN/Power Mode and slide towards "Best Performance".
I noticed this on my Sprint Mogul while I had it. Funny thing was after a clean phone boot it wouldnt always behave according to where the slider is (even tho set at best bat life it would still stay on sometimes when screen timeout, I don't believe the kaiser/tilt does this), but going into the settings and moving this slider would make it behave accordingly.
Good luck.
I'm seeing the same thing. On my TyTN, I used to use MortSaver to turn off the screen but leave the device and WiFi running. Since I switched to a TyTN II, WiFi turns off when I start MortSaver.
Cranking up the WiFi power options to max performance does not seem to help.
This is not about standby mode - we all know WiFi turns off there (even if we'd prefer that be an option too, of course).
If there a fix for this issue?
I think something could be made via reg editing, but since I don't own a kaiser...

Any tips where to start looking?
yep, in the registry
just kidding, check that key, lot of parameters to play with.. Their names sound just like what you're looking for :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\TNETWLN1\Parms
note that TNETWLN1 is the name of the WiFi adapter, so it may not be the same on kaiser.

The relevant key on the Kaiser would be:
HKLM\Comm\TNETW12511\Parms
(somehow it scares me that I know that from the top of my head )
I was sure TCPMP screen off option was working ( keeping WiFi alive )... after awhile ... it failed too.
sorry

Sadly doesnt work for me. At least the green LED blinks for a while in standby mode but the device becomes pretty warm and the Wlan says disconnected if i turn on the device again.

Try asking on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424423
Anywho, yes, suspending (power button) will turn off the built-in GPS, and I think even bluetooth GPS. TrackMe will just turn off the screen, the phone itself stays on, and it'll keep tracking as long as the phone doesn't turn itself off.
I use PhoneAlarm to set the suspend time to disabled, turns up the backlight, turns up notifications, and runs TrackMe in a "GPS Tracking" profile, so I just change profiles and go.
I suppose more GPS Tracking programs are not a bad idea, just... eh.. Duplication I guess.
I already made a thread about the backlight, but it seems that I only have that problem while using Tomtom.
If I use tomtom without external power, the screen blanks after 30 seconds, or whatever setting is used in the energy settings of the TD2.
When driving on external power, the screen goes blank after 30 minutes (the maximum of the settings if the TD2 isn't used.
On my diamond 1, the diamond recognized tomtom as an active application, hence the screen would stay on, until the battery was empty.
Weird thing is: if I use Coreplayer, the screen does stay on, so the TD2 recognizes Coreplayer as an active application.
More people with this problem? I have the latest official HTC rom (Dutch). Did multiple hard-resets and multiple installations of TT7 (7.910 and 7.915 versions). With or without audio-fix; no matter what: screen blanks....
Touch Incall Tweak ?
maybe is the Touch Incall tweak the solution for you? You can then manually enable backlight settings:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488991!:
Hope this works for you, did it for me.
Unfortunately, it did not. I installed the app, did a soft reset and saw that TomTom was one of the applications on the list.
However, after the same period the screen went blank again. As far as I understand it, the applications on that list are the apps that should prevent the screen blanking out, when a call is coming in. But using tomtom, not always a call comes in..
So, how did you manage to get it working then..??
Honoustly I don't know. I remember I had the same problem but after a while the screen doesn't switch off anymore.
I always have the TD2 power connected when navigating and in the settings tab-more-system-energy-advanced tab you can control the lighting settings and time outs.
Must say that I downgraded to Tomtom 7.910.9185 caus' it should work a little better... I still have the big lag and slow screen refreshing problem though.
For navigating I use Nav'n go Igo (8.3.2.80621) now. Has a lag also but works better and more stable. And uses maps of 10-3-2009!
What version are you using?
TT 7.915.9196, but tried the .9185 also, but seemed to me that that version gave a little more lag than the newest. Newest is stable; the point of the arrow is the point that my car is, so thats ok with me.
Last thing seems that on car power the tt stays on now, but on battery power still disables the screen. Both versions, with or without the audio-fix, with or without the tweak.
O and I upgraded to the latest rom; no result either.
Since Sprint is going to try and screw me big time if I get a new phone, I've decided to see what new life I could put into my old Touch Diamond (DIA500). I installed XDAndroid FRX05, and it seems to be working really well, with a few exceptions. One of the first things I tried was to enable Bluetooth. What happens is that it enables, but about 4 seconds after being enabled, it says it's shutting down, then it starts back up, and shuts down. It keeps doing this forever, until I turn it off. Now that I tried Wifi, it does the exact same thing. I've rebooted a few times, and took the battery out once, but still nothing. I've since installed a battery-saving program, but this happened on a fresh install.
The next issue is with the backlight. If I try and change the brightness, it changes for a second, then goes back to the brightness it was. It does this whether I turn the brightness up or down. It's not set to auto.
The third issue is the GPS. It works, but seems to take a long time to get a lock. Under WM, I'd have some kind of location within seconds, even inside. I'm guessing it was using the phone network to speed things up. Under android, it takes a few minutes sometimes, and it's worse inside.
I also had a nightmare calibrating the screen. It's still a little off, but it works. Does anyone know a screen calibration program that would work?
Any ideas?
Thanks!
To solve the brightness problem. Boot WinMo and turn off auto brightness there. That will solve that problem.
