Hi,
I recently bought a T-Mobile MDA Vario III from T-Mobile Netherlands.
Visiting the US I discovered this phone does not support 3G in the US.
My US colleague liked the phone so much, and had a look at the AT&T Tilt. The big difference is ofcourse the missing frontcamera, but this one works in the US on 3G. Are there any AT&T Tilt users here that have tried that phone in Europe and/or Asia and got 3G or HSDPA there ?
I suspect there are different versions of this phone around with different frequency support. Or should I have bought a HTC version, are they possibly enabled to use 3G in both US, Europe and Asia ?
Any hints to enable 3G on my phone while visiting the US would be appreciated !

Umm, unless the Vario III is crippled (in terms of frequencies supported), the Kaiser supports all currently 3G frequencies worldwide - 850, 1900, 2100MHz. I used my TyTN II in Korea (2100) and obviously in the US (850/1900)...According to gsm.org, Netherlands TMo uses 2100 also.

T-Mobile USA does not yet have 3G. They'll be on the the new bands someday (and your Kaiser doesn't support those bands). Most likely you'd find yourself on the T-Mobile network with GSM-only.
If you want 3G in the US, you'll probably need to purchase a prepaid card from AT&T...

What I am suspecting is that 3G is on different frequencies/bands in the US, and the european models don't support them ....
Question still remains: has a AT&T Tilt user been to Europe or Asia and saw that 3G worked there ? My colleague wants to buy one ...

The Tilt defintiely works in Asia and Europe. And I'm fairly certain that the Vario III will work on 3G in the US as well.

This is conjecture on my part, but I'll bet that T-Mobile Europe and AT&T do not have a 3G roaming agreement in place in the US...
I couldn't help myself. This phone seems perfect so i ordered a diamond that will arrive tommorow. Now my question is if anyone thinks the bands for US are present and need to be unlocked or if this will end up on ebay . Thanks!

You won't get any 3G in the US with it, and you'll only be able to use the 1900 band for voice/GPRS/EDGE.
Actually you are incorrect. 1900 Mhz is supported w/3G w/AT&T in certain areas. Unfortunately my Diamond is not even getting an EDGE connection. From what I am hearing the Diamond is only supporting 2100Mhz frequency w/3G according to HTC. Which to me makes no sense.. I am blogging my experience with it as it is the first production unit in the USA.

This is where all the confusion starts.. For GSM/GPRS/EDGE it does 900/1800/1900 MHz - only 1900 would work in the US. For UMTS (3G) it only does 900/2100 - neither of these frequencies are used in the US.
The protocols and modulation used are completly different for GSM/GPRS/EDGE vs UMTS. The dispersal of uplink and downlink frequencies is completly different. Just because it can do 1900 for GSM doesnt mean it should do 1900 UMTS.

So why wouldnt I get Edge? I have had triband phones before i.e HTC 8525 that worked ?

You should get edge. Edge is an extention of GPRS but requires a different BTS (radio tower) setup. Its possible you don't have a strong enough signal, but it sounds like your confident you should have edge in that area.
The only thing i can suggest it to try in a different area - like the centre of town. Also, confirm your APN is setup corectly, the [G] may just be telling you GPRS is available, but not that you can attach.
I know with my elfin it takes a little stronger signal to initiate the Edge icon the first time (ie. after a hard reset). I can't get an edge signal inside my office but once I walk outside for a minute or two, bam I have it. Then when I go inside I still have it.

Diamond had UMTS(2100)+GSM(900+1800),UMTS(850+1900)+GSM(850+1900),UMTS(800+2100),UMTS(850+2100)+GSM(900+1800),UMTS(850)+GSM(900+1800) and UMTS(1700) depend what rom you had in your Diamond and where you bought your Diamond , At&T should be show 3G in US and T-mobile used 3G (1700 Mhz) in New York area
The platform in the phone can support all those bands, so you might be able to see them (like in the test rom) but the antennas are not there. So you won't actually be able to pick up a signal.

I guess all of us US early adopters must hope the hardware is there and can be enabled with a future flash.
T-mobile in the US uses 1900mhz for GSM/Edge and only has 3g in NYC, so I'm figuring that it's a cool stop-gap device until something is available for T-mobile 3G.

On AT&T it will give you only GPRS! On Tmobile (NEW) it shows EDGE!! I dont understand this at all!

Voice and EDGE will work just fine as long as you are in a major area that uses 1900 band. You might have weak or no signal when you are in smaller rural areas since those usually extend into the 850 band.
You will not be able to use 3G since the Diamond only supports 900/2100, neither of which are used by AT&T
It looks like if you have ATT you are hosed for both voice and data, as most of ATT voice and data (Edge) is 850mhz. Most if not all of T-mobile voice-data-Edge is 1900mhz so you will have at least Edge. If you're looking for 3g data you're SOL until the US version of the diamond is released.
this fn blows htc has really screwed us here in usa...i was willing to spend 800 for this device and htc doesnt even see this? by the time it comes out here in quadband ...the x1 will be out and not mention the 3g iphone...oh well

We will get the diamond, have to wait for the US version that does the different bands.... wich leads me to my next question. What carrier do you think will get the diamond??? AT&T seems to get all the cool stuff.

I don't think HTC cares about America too much any more because it's iPhone territory. As they haven't used their own branding until recently, I think HTC are looking to gain market control and loyalty, and that's easiest where the iPhone hasn't been a huge success.

Again, HTC seem to like doing exactly what Apple are not doing, so they may go for multiple carriers. As far as I'm aware the Touch Diamond, and its branded versions, are launching on every network in the UK. That's the complete opposite of Apple's 'one network per country' policy, and they consequently seem to have dropped it (for example, in Italy).
AGREED 100%!! I have been saying this on my podcast for quite a while.. It is a huge mistake. I am now saying since I just received my Diamond that I took one for the team.. I will post my review as the days go by...

I just bought a T9193 version of the phone from an eBay seller in Australia and while I wait for it to arrive here in Delaware, I want to order some accessories that I know I need. (extra battery, desktop cradle, car cradle, etc.)
Now, when I'm browsing the 1,000's of ads on eBay, some of them specify that their product (cradle for example), only works with a particular model, and NOT the TMoUS version. That being said, there would have to be a PHYSICAL difference between all of the device models. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

The t9193 is the Austrailian version and uses 850/2100 mhz band. Afaik from a quick google AT&T use 850/1900 mhz so the 3g will work fine in most places but not all, see here for coverage:

As for desktop cradle and car cradle the they both have micro usb ports and require the same voltage so will both work with the same cradles.

The T9193 uses 850MHz for HSPA..., so I'll be able to access AT&T's 3G data, but thank you for your concern.
I'm asking about the PHYSICAL size/shape of the device. Some items offered for the HD2 on eBay (an Otterbox for example) specify that it will only work with the International version of the phone, and NOT the US (T-Mobile USA) version of the device. There must be SOME difference to warrant that...

The TmoUSA HD2 is T-mobile branded. because its branded it's 1.5mm(i think that's the right number but you can check comparison charts online) taller than any other version of the phone. That's way they're clarified as either US or International. Either way the TmoUSA is taller and therefore the two types can't use the same cases because it wont wit 'perfectly' like for example:Otterbox's

The 9193 and 8585 are same size, the T-Mo US version is the only one that is sized differently, and it's 1.5mm taller, like the poster above said. Anything that works with euro hd2 (t8585) will work with yours. Have fun with your new hd2, it's a great device.

I'm shopping for a T9193 to use on AT&T's 3G network in Arizona. I came across several websites that list both a 'T9193 T-Mobile' version and a 'T9193 Unlocked' version. I assume one is branded for T-Mobile, while the other is not, however I thought the T-Mobile version is the T8585. Are there two T-Mobile versions? If so, do they both receive the 850 MHz 3G band, or just the Telstra version? Aside from 3G bands, are there any other hardware differences (amount of RAM for instance) between the models, or just the fact that they are branded/locked?
By the way, I have spoken with several AT&T reps and they will be getting rid of the Edge & GPRS data services in the next frew months (which are on the 1900 MHz frequency) and moving to 850 MHz nationwide by the end of 2011, so if you want the HD2, you're only bet is the T9393. If you buy a T-Mo US HD2 and want to use it on AT&T it will be useless in a matter of months.

There's only one hd2 with the 850 3g band, and that's the t9193 telstra branded phone. The T-Mobile phone is not a t9193 and does not have 850 band.
Gprs and edge work on the same frequency as their voice service... even if they drop the 1900 MHz frequency, they will still have edge and gprs. It doesn't make sense that they could get rid of it altogether... that would ruin a ton of their old phones people are still using on their service. They wouldn't do that.

The T-Mobile US is not a t8585... the t8585 is the European model and has same size and specs as t9193. The T-Mobile US is a third model that came out months later than the other 2 models. It is slightly taller and had 1gb of ROM (internal NAND memory) while the 8585 & 9193 have 512mb ROM. The RAM size is actually the same on all the models, but on the 8585&9193 you must unlock part of it by flashing a more recent radio. So basically, all the models are the same except that the T-Mobile USA HD2 has double the ROM size, which is nice, but isn't that big of a deal.

Hey just so you know, AZ does not have 850mhz for AT&T 3G. I have a T9193, and it only obtains Edge connectivity, even with the proper radio. I have contacted AT&T in regards to this, and they stated they do not own the 850mhz band for AZ and have no plans to use it in the future. Just figured I'd tell you so you don't waste money expecting 3G.

I'm in Delaware and I'm getting really good 3G coverage. My only regret is not getting this phone sooner.
Doesn't the T-Mobile version have the HSDPA 1700/2100MHz band and the initial HTC HD2 has HSDPA 900/2100Mhz band? Because the trouble i am getting in New Zealand is that i get poor reception indoors with the T-mobile variant which i got from the states which is what i suspect to be the missing 900mhz band which is supposed to be able to penetrate better through walls hence giving better indoor reception.
Idk if I'm using the term right, but I'm with t mobile and I know that they will offer the htc one. But that's rumored to be towards the end of march. But appearntly Europe will be getting it the first of march. So my question is: will all carriers be selling the same EXACT phone? Meaning can I get a euro version when it comes out and use it on t mobile, and still get 2g,3G,and 4g (hspa+,LTE) ? I'm very anxious to get a new phone. I'm down to the htc one and the xperia z.
Yeah it's a world phone, it won't be in the market before 15th march. As clove.co.uk states that. IMO Better to get from your carrier if you don't want to face any issues with network. But if you want fast updates, it's good to purchase from uk.

Yes for 2g and 3g, not really for LTE in selected countries... And then I am certain that the LTE band will be tied down to that network provider. I will be amazed if this is not the case because HTC always does this, with exception of the HTC J-Butterfly (only in Japan), the reason behind this is that Japan law requires the phones to have world network support. The Sony XZ defninately covers world support on 2g,3g & 4g

We are in the same boat. I am with Tmobile and have Galaxy S3, but as soon as I saw the leaked image of HTC One, I was instantly fell in love with it and I am surely glad they kept the design. It is the kind of design and material I wanted for a long time. Anyway, cut to the point, I pre-ordered from Clove.co.uk and expansys-usa.com. Whichever can ship it first will have my money. The reason I pre-order instead of waiting is it looks like it will be cheaper this way since I am buying off-contract. Tmobile's phone usually have much higher price than other carriers like ATT. Of course you can buy att one and unlock it, but it is illegal in USA now so that complicates things. Only thing I am worrying about is the compatibility with Tmobile's upcoming LTE network. Since I am living in Houston, TX, it is only logical to think Tmobile's next LTE market will be somewhere in TX if not Houston. But, I saw their LTE band is not the one supported by HTC One. (I saw this in one of forum here. Don't have the link) Tmobile maybe make LTE version of this phone like galaxy note 2, but then that will now complicates the battery life. So I am not sure if I want to have LTE version of HTC One when the battery is not user replaceable. Besides I am more than content with current Tmobile's data speed as HSPA+ in houston area. So my point is if you are sure you will get this phone, pre-order seems the fastest one so far. I picked silver one BTW.

VTR 3g frecuencies: 1700/2100
I currently have an HTC Desire HD, however, I'm unable to use 3g with my device. Please help me confirm that the ONE will work on this network, else, I will have to change my network

The phone doesn't have support for the 1700 band, but will work on the 2100 band offered by your provider. The biggest problem you face is what is the difference between bands for VTS, typically network providers will offer a faster network and or more coverage on one of their bands. If in Chile this is the 2100 band you are away laughing.
Just had a look at the specs of your HTC Desire HD and the news is bad.The new HTC one will the same as your previous phone on that network.

I suggest you go to www.gsmarena.com then search for brands of phones that have 1700Mhz radios. So got to say HTC, and under bands select 1700 then filter, you will find only 13.
After checking this, scrub the above and only use it as a super rough guide. Because it states the Sony XZ as 1700Mhz, but no Sony website claims this that I can see.

Thanks a lot, I hope the phone gets 3g, however, I know that Entel (another company in my country) will offer the HTC One on the third or fourth trimester of this year and it might allow LTE connection. If that's the situation, I might consider changing my mobile provider

its not worth buying the international version anymore if the US carrier versions are the same as the international one..
LTE is moving forward and HSPA+ will stop development in a few years once T-Mobile switch to LTE
im sure the T-Mobile version will be the same as the rest with LTE ready

Not true, there is three LTE variants in the US depending on the band eg provider The best US is AT&T which covers all of US. It all comes down to what bands your country decides to go with on LTE.
So it is a toss up between AT&T or UK model depending on your LTE band requirements.
HSPA/WCDMA:
Europe/Asia: 850/900/1900/2100 MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
850/900/1800/1900 MHz
LTE:
EU: 800/1800/2600 MHz
US (AT&T): 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz
US (TMO): 700/AWS MHz
US (Sprint): 1900 MHz
Asia: 1800/2600 Mhz

No worries, it's my pleasure.
As I said before your current HTC phone should be 3G on your network provider because 2100mhz is 3G.
ANd most unfortunate for you in South America is that they use such a mix of LTE bands covering most of the LTE spectrum, in this case you are better off with the Sony Xperia Z, which covers almost all of the used LTE bands.
I have used Claro in South America which has great coverage, but bad customer service, but I guess you always get that with the big players.

I'm on a Canadian provider that has a hard time with getting good phones. I'm on Wind mobile and actually those who are on Mobilicity are in the same boat. When HTC One X came out it wasn't available for Wind or Mobilicity, when HTC One X+ came out it wasn't available either. Only the cheaper versions of One S would work on it, other ones didn't support the bands. I can see that for Canada none of these providers are listed to carry HTC One. Does it support the bands that Wind and Mobilicity operate at? Will it work on it? They operate in AWS

Why don't you go back one page and read, I have posted all the bands supported by the phone. AT&T will be your best option for coverage
I've got a bit of a similar question about where this phone will work on a specific network. If I buy an unlocked CDMA version of the HTC one, can I just drop a Verizon sim card into it and use the phone on verizon's network?

There is no CDMA version, and cdma devices do not use sim cards.

only reason i bring that up because the ONE will be on sprint's network which is CDMA, along with the fact that i thought verizon 4g phones used sim cards ( my pantech marauder loner phone had one). thanks for the answer

Because last summer I was in USA and with my old HTC (not compatible with AT&T 3G), I was only able to use 2G networks for internet and it was very very bad...
So I'm asking !

Well, as far as I know, the HTC One will be just one device with no difference with the ones sold in America, Europe, Asia, etc...

Hello all,
Like most of you I was excited to hear of this smaller version of the galaxy s3. I've enjoyed my note 2 for a little over 2 months now and I can't get enough of its beautiful screen. Now with this said, I find myself wanting a smaller phone that I could take in a pinch instead of the huge note 2. I find this small form factor of a phone to be the perfect size. So, when is this phone coming to America? Specifically to Verizon? Anyone have any insight?

Says in the article that Apple dropped the s3 Mini from the lawsuit. Lol and yes amazon is selling it, just not on the correct baseband that I need for Verizon. It would work on other carriers however.

"Network Frequencies and Band: 2G Network - GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and then 3G Network - HSDPA 900/1900/2100.
This will work with T-Mobile. T-Mobile requires 1700/2100 for their 4G and 3G BUT their 1900 network is their new network they are reframing and that gets you HSDPA speeds which is faster than 3G. So yes you can get 3G/HSDPA with this phone from T-Mobile still if you are in the covered area.
This phone will also work with AT&T, once again because their 1900 is their main 3G network. Yes it also runs on 850, but anywhere it runs on 850, it is also covered by 1900, which is what this phone supports..so all you need is the 1900 network support which this phone has.
And i'll repeat is just one more time because some people still ask...This phone will work with AT&T and T-Mobile because it has the 1900 network! Which is all you need to get 3G for both companies. The 850 for AT&T doesn't matter, and the 1700/2100 for T-Mobile doesn't matter (make sure you are in a reframed area). Hope this cleared things up "

Has anyone tried using the galaxy axiom from us cellular on Verizon yet? From everything I've looked at on the specs of it, it does indeed have the same cell frequencies. Anyone with any info please let me know.

I'm on T-Mobile.
I bought one for my wife recently because she needed a new phone and the full size S3 is just too big. She gets pretty good coverage here in the San Fernando Valley just north of LA. She gets some 4G signal a lot of the time, occasionally 3G, and some EDGE. The T-Mobile network is not yet that built out, even here in SoCal.
The big lack is that the device has no LTE modem, although that also may make for better battery.
