I ran across some extra registry tweaks at Aximsite for the X51v which seems to have improved performance on my BA. The extra reg settings are
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize=4096
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\EnableCache=0x1(1)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\ReplStoreCacheSize=4096
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ MSFlash\FATFS\DataCacheSize=4096
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ MSFlash\FATFS\Flags=40
The first two registry entries are already included in the wm5 fixes cab by mamaich but with a diferent value for the cache. I have been using the 4096 cache value myself already. I also tried the extra settings in bold and found it gave another boost to the PPC speed. Here is the original thread http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=104366&page=1&pp=20 Anyone else like to try and post feedback on their results? If confirmed maybe it can be added to the wm5 cab file.
Edit: Can anyone try setting this reg key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ MSFlash\FATFS\DataCacheSize=2048 instead of 4096 as above. For me it seems to work slightly better.
I also tried changing these two entries for PIE, unfortunately PIE runs so slow i cant tell if it has any positive effect
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:10(dec) - default 4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"MaxRequestThreads"=dword:10(dec) - default 5
1. BA still works
2. Noticeable faster.
this seting realy speedUP BlueAngel running WM 2005 ????
noticed a a fair amount of speed increase in my BA, nice trick, i hope more tweaks like these come up
baniaczek, which reg keys did you apply?
For anyone else trying this, please state which registry entries you applied.
applied all reg settings to my system, but I guess the first 2 are the ones that made a significant difference in my device
Is this a general WM2005 tip?
Is it worth trying on Universal?
UPDATE
Did this on my Universal (XDA Exec) and it seems faster, where did you see the main speed increases...
Wow
Noticable faster.
Thanks.

All of them.
-----------------------
Of course not everything goes faster.
Example - Settings menu. First time since reboot - no difference. Second time - very fast. Setting/Phone - like a dream.
File manager - looking into \windows - very fast.
regedit - refresh tree. Very good.
Green key [phone] - very, very, very nice.
Starting programs - first time - probably no difference.
BA WM5 extra registry speed tweaks - maybe not
I've just tested this using GXMark on an o2 xda iis with wm5 and patch 3.
It's also worth noting I'm running the overclocking util that was posted here a while back.
The results are:
Before applying change: 1755
After applying change: 1735
How accurate GXMark is for determining "perceived" benefits over actual ones I don't know.
Anyways, thats my £0.01
Very nice! Changing from using the WiFi to GPRS as Internet connetion takes a few seconds to apply. It took ten! Also other operations seems noticeably faster. Good catch indeed!
Interesting. Speed was my main problem with WM5; i might install it again sometimes in the future...
Nice, my SX66 seems a bit faster too now.
The "EnableCache" was set but the others where not.
What about the sound problems? e.g. the skipping in WMP/TCPMP?
My Hero!!
CacheSize was 256 and it was very slow, by the time the phone rang (made a noise) and you pressed the green telephone key the divert on no-answer had kicked in.
After all the above settings being applied it's turbo charged by comparison!!!
Didn't notice that because nobody called me yesterday, but you're right!
Speed in sms writing still slow? i went back to 2003se cause of that..
I'm tempted to try wm5 again but the sms problem makes the device unusable...
Nope, doesen't look like that.
Just re-flashed WM5v3 and applied this registry entries. Awesome that's all I can say, thanks dude. I'm testing the sound with TCPMP and no skips so far. If it stays as good as it is now, I'm back to WM5.......
any feedbacks about the Pocket IE on showing the missing pictures? I need to know, otherwise I won't upgrade still it needs some tweaks..

Ever since I installed the WM6 ROM, the softkeys lag a lot! Using the hardware AND software buttons, there is about a 1 second delay from pressing the button and for the reaction. On WM5 it was instant. Does anyone else have this problem and is there any way to fix it?
I'd install Molski's 2 cabs, the performance and the customizations. Ignore the one that gives the invalid OS warning or something like that.
Worked for me when I installed the orwell ROM a while back.
What fix exactly makes it better? I do not want to apply a bunch of things that change my settings and requires me to set them back.
anyone know what I should do other then install all those registry edits?

Read the Wiki. Then read what Molski did. Then ask yourself why you have a problem installing two cabs created by a senior member that have been incorporated in various forms in many ROM's here.
Actually just read the wiki and create your own reg cabs.

I can not find my answer in the wiki. Are you talking about the xda-developers wiki?
I looked at what is inside the cabs and manually applied anything that would be related to speed. I did these from performance
• Increase FileSystem cache
• Increase FileSystem filter cache
• Increase font cache
• Disable window animations
• Disable menu animations
• Enable FileSystem cache
And there does not seem to be anything in customization that would affect the speed (otherwise they would be under performance). The reason I do not want to install them, is I like it to be configured the way I want, I do not think they would warm my device, just change they way I have configured it.
I just installed the performance one (and haven't reverted anything yet) but it is still the same. What in the customization one actually fixes it?

Yes I meant the xda wiki. If you search through the WM5 section, Wizard, Blue Angel, etc you can learn a lot. (I started in the BA section myself)
Probably because Molski is known for making some of the fastest ROM's here (and believe me I know) I always use his cabs so I don't need to worry myself about those things. My time is spent making custom cabs for every thing else, such as my email settings, backlight, notifications, ringers, themes, favorites, camera saving to SC, my docs on sc and syncing with AS, etc. These are things that I hate redoing ... and I very often will hard reset 5 or more times in a day testing various ROM's for the folks here...
Good luck.
i had the same problem with mine too with pdaviet. i found out its smartskey. disable it from startup
I noticed the same thing with PDAViet4, becouse of this and a few other issues(like not connecting live messenger, crashing programs, etc...) I moved back to PV3 and like it a lot better after installing a few cabs that are going around(memory, showsim, molski performance etc...).
So, this still exists on the pdaviet ones too?
Maybe I will just move down to an AKU 3.3 ROM, they dont have this problem!
got your pim and like i replied it may be programs running or background stuff have you tried overclocking and if it you see a change its background stuff that is slowing down the softkeys
Is IE unusable on the kaiser with the bug i hear about? I usually use the joypad for scrolling down, is it still the same?
Compared to the Hermes, how fast is the Kaiser at building pages up? On any big pages (eg. ebay) the Hermes really grinds to a snails pace and even when you think it's finished if you scroll down it's still (slowly) inserting images. Sometimes it can take nearly 60secs to finish showing an eBay page.
cheers, John
Which bug?
I use PIE with PIEPlus 2.2 and it works fine.
It is slow though, compared to my old Magician WM2003SE But thats obvious (WM2003SE is not flash based OS, no persistent-memory, thats why faster).
I am waiting Opera Mobile 9, which I am not sure will ever be released!
Duke Nukem Forever
I don't notice any difference with the Hermes. What bug are you talking about exactly?
By the by: opera mini beta 4 runs great on the Kaiser.

Yes it works, but the scrolling gets laggy once you have scrolled down a bit. The page download times are probably on a par with the TyTn. The Touchflo finger scrolling works better (once you get the hang of it).
Opera Mini works faster and scrolls OK.
Mike
Im not having any issues with PIE in general and I'm already getting used to the scroll feature. In fact I picked up my Trinity today and found it annoying when I had to use those fiddly scroll bars.
I wonder how it compares to the experience on the new iPod Touch?
I heard from a friend that the browsing experience on that was very intuitive - but then he is an apple nerd!
My bigger issue with the Tytn II is still the radio used. I am having real problems with the gprs/3G switch and both phone and internet connection have major problems coping when I am in 1 or 2 bars of 3G.
And I am still rarely getting a full 3G signal which was not the probelm with the later radios I have on my Tytn and Trinity.
I will try my Vodafone SIM tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.

this is the bug i was talking/hearing about.
With the extra power and extra chips I was hoping the page building issue would have truly gone, it's my biggest gripe with my Hermes. My other gripe was the poor video playback on my Hermes (which has improved thanks to many WM6 roms), I hear this hasn't improved much either. I think I'll wait until a new ROM or a new device...
Touchflo doesnt work with my installation of Opera Mobile (8.60). Would have thought there would be 20 million threads on it by now so am thinking its just me with the issue.
Is touchflo something that has to be written into third party software of should it would with anything?
Opera Mini is the Java version correct?
New ROM will not fix that because it will be still the same IE.
IE is just slow, that's all.
Try Opera Mini and enjoy the super fast browsing experience.
You will never look back to IE, trust me.

Yes, Opera Mini is a Java application.
But it is running fine and superb.
Here what I got it installed in my device:
1. Install JBED-JAVA_MIDLET_MANAGER.2007.08.02.2.1
Get it from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=49222&d=1188897204
2. Use IE and browse to mini.opera.com/beta
And follow the instruction to install it.
Note: Choose "High memory" version.
You are done.
Now, read this article below :
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-...ed-includes-info-new-java-midlet-manager.html
You will be able to:
1. Make a shortcut to the "Programs" folder
Then using the "Settings->Button" you can change the IE softkey to execute this shortcut.
2. Get rid of the network security warning.
That's it

Phew! Took a bit of work, but worth it
All thats left is for it to be set as the default browser and take links from emails.
Cheers for that buddy.
The shortcut part just doesn't work for me. I use Esmertec and my shortcut based on what I see in the appsdb folder is
#30"\windows\jeodek.exe" -run s3_
Whatever I do it gives me the message - Could not find MIDlet suite s3_
The file in appsdb is s3_suite.jar. Even still, I tried from number s0_ to s3_ to no avail.
Hope somebody can help.

I get that same error - unable to find Suite 0 or 1 or whatever I put in.
Also the change in the selector file has my OperaMini still asking for permission. Any suggestions????
Thanks
Guys, I'm still getting the permission warnings as some other Opera 4 users are describing. I have done everything in this post including the selector.utf file. Has anyone figured out what might be causing this?

i could only get it to work witn Cloudyfa's JBed, not with the default JMM.
I finally got it to work with Cloudyfa's JBed. For some reason, JBed wasn't installed properly. It wasn't showing up and Remove Programs. I reinstalled it, reinstalled Opera, applied the shortcut/network warning fix, and all is working perfectly.
For other people having this problem, make sure JBed is showing up in the Programs list and in Remove Programs before you install Opera. Seemed to do the trick.
I will be doing all of this tonight, Thanks for the tips.
Same here, I too get the error message could not find suite s0_. The number is correct, but i noticed i dont have any .jar files in the appdb folder... Any ideas?
I also didn't have any .jar files in my appdb folder. I did see some files with s2_ extensions (eg. s2_.jah and _s2.obj) so I changed my suite link to s2_ and it worked. Once I got the link to work, I then copied the selector.utf file from appdb to my PC and ran the Fix.exe editor on it and copied it back to the Kaiser. Works perfectly with no more permission dialog, thanks so much for sharing!
My squence;
1-Install Jbed
2-Install Opera Mini and test to verify it works.
3-Create link in programs folder and test
4-Copy off selector.utf and "fix", copy back and it should all be good, with no more permissions required.
5-Map the program link to a hard key.
6-Crack a cold beverage of choice, life is good
I have Dutty's latest rom and want to increase the speed of the touchflo scrolling. I found it in the registry but it doesn't seem to be working, any advice?
I tried searching but the wrong stuff came up.
Anyone have an answer?
*Bump*
Searched for "Touchflo speed" and "Touchflo" and did not find anything relevant to my question other than this thread.
So, how can one increase the rate of speed when touchflo is scrolling? (i.e. Dutty's Roms claims to do it on his release notes)
I imagine it is a registry edit?
Thanks.
have you tried soft resetting the device after changing your setting in the reg?
It will no doubt be in memory, and so needs a kick up the bum to realise the key has changed. Or you have the wrong key and that's why it isnt working.
On mine, if i move my thumb quicker, my scroll is quicker.
Thanks for the tips. I actually don't know what the registry edit would be to make it go faster. I have the default settings at the moment. Using udK's rom and although I can tweak touchflo a bit with Kaiser Tweak, there are no settings for making it scroll faster.
If there is a specific registry edit to use, could someone point me in the right direction?
Check kaisertweak.... a sticky thread of this forum
I have Kaiser Tweak installed and I have played with it but I don't see any difference. I see options for "sensitivity" is that meant to be a speed increase or the actual pressure one has to put on the screen? I did play with it a bit and didn't see a difference in actual scrolling speed.
Edit- Just looked at Kaiser Tweak again and there is an option for enabling disabling Touchflo, turning off sound, and two options for how much force one needs to use when scrolling. I don't see any options for increasing scroll speed unless somehow more force=faster scrolling? If that's the case, just let me know.
This thread is in danger of dying once again without an answer (on 3rd page now). Anyone?
edit:
mistook the question to be trying to speed up the cube. Sorry.

what they mean by sensitivity is that fact of how hard you need to push down on the screen in order for the cube to work... it has nothing to do with the speed.
So the question still remains. How do you do it?
I don't think these play well together. When I installed PIEPlus I got an error that said "can not get window handle from Browser interface", so I uninstalled it.
I reverted my PIE from IE6 back to the old version, reinstalled PIEPlus and it works.
I'm no expert, so it could have been a different issue, but my PIE+ is working and that makes me a happy girl.
I searched through the forums and never found anything to help me so I hope this helps someone. If everyone, except me, already knew this then there is egg on my face...I hear it's good for your skin anyway.
Possibly found something for you.
Here's something I posted a while back about the different classname that IE6 uses for the window it draws.
My post was to try and get the TouchPro's touch-sensative wheel (aka. Smartscrolling) to work in IE6 but it could be relevent to your question.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=59424
I found something that works. It was really bugging me, ever since people started cooking IEMobile6 into their awesome ROMs, that 4-wayNav/SmartScrolling were broken.
I think I found an improvement. I found this classname using the FDCsoft TaskManager: IEMobile instead of IExplorer
-It scrolls really slowly
-And it still doesn't jump to every single link, but it hits more than just d-pad.
NewKey:[HLKM\Software\HTC\SmartTouch\IEMobile]
"ClassName"="IEMobile"
Interesting! I'm using PIE+ on a stock Fuze (WM 6.1) with no problems.
not all that interesting
stock Fuze doesn't have PIE6 on it.
I was using PIEPlus on a stock Fuze just fine as well...then I flashed a custom ROM that includes PIE6
?
I feel ignored, lol.
A little feedback would be appreciated, not necessary, of course, but in the spirit of conversation.
Did you understand what I meant about the "classname"??
If PIE+ uses a fair amount of registry keys for its program, you might just need to change a few registry values and be good to go.
Most of the applications don't know that there is a different windowclass because we're using stuff grabbed from WM6.5 ROMs. Which is Awesome, but some apps get confused.
scoobasteve, please don't feel ignored. I just didn't understand what you meant. I looked at your other post (ppcgeeks) again this afternoon to try to understand and I still don't entirely, but maybe a little.
For what it's worth, I thought I would change the registry to go back to PIE6 after PIEPlus was successfully working and now it's royally screwed up. I'm not sure what to do with registry keys within PIE+ to get it to look for the right stuff; I'm not that advanced.
I may uninstall/reinstall PIEPlus again to see if all of the correct keys are found again. Maybe I should have posted this in the ROM specific thread, but I know that PIEPlue didn't install correctly on a variety of new ROMs that I flashed last week.

I was just kidding, btw. Some people don't even check the threads more than once or twice a week
I'd be happy to explain. Hopefully simply and not so off that I get chastized by one of the pros. hehe
The way programs create a window is by refering to a template of some kind. In many cases they are found in __.dll files. In WinMo6.5, I'm pretty sure the Search Widget, Weather Widget, and PIE6 all use the same type of window. Some of these Windows can be identified by a name, aka classname. This so that programmers can change different aspects of how the program reacts to our user input.
If you use HTCAlbum or HTCYouTube, those both have their own classnames as well. And as of right now, they are soooooo much easier to fingerscroll: Faster and smoother. The distance the window scrolls when you swipe the screen is one of the things someone can change in the registry. What you are really editing is how the program uses that window (windowclass/classname) when you swipe the screen with your finger.
So, the developers of 6.5 changed the classname that PIE6 uses. This is probably because it is so very different that few programs designed for 6.1 will work well with it. I tried using the PIE addon from Spb PocketPlus v4.1.0 and it got really confused. Pocket plus must have recognized certain elements but choked, big time, cause of the significant differences.
In Conclusion- I would not recommend using any PIE addons with PIE6 for right now. If you installed the old PIE, hopefully it will only be the widgets that won't work. I'm not really sure.
Had a little more time for this reply. Hope it helps a bit more.
Solution...
Change the registry key here
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Internet Explorer]
"MSHTML"=dword:0 ; 0 for old IE, 1 for IE Mobile 6
Install PIEPlus 2.2 and off you go...
I couldn't live without it eather...
Kind regards,
Axel
doesn't anyone actually read?
Freakydile:
not a solution...refer to op, that is what I did. That doesn't address the issue of PIE+ not working with PIE6 at all.
sc00basteve:
I have installed a 6.5 rom that I love so PIE+ will just have to go until it is updated to work with PIE6 or I can figure out a resolution.
Thanks, I understand a lot more about it now.
thanks

Thanks to everyone on this diamond forum for the fantastic apps, tweaks, links and advice. I've got my new diamond working great now. I was really a bit disappointed with this phone a couple of days ago compared to my artemis, but now it's brilliant and I wouldn't change it. So,
I've now changed:
Screen sensitivity - way better now.
Screen orientation - change screen works a treat and now I can change to landscape automatically in any app or toggle it off.
GPS with tomtom & copilot - perfect, unbelievably fast fix in less than 30 seconds. Used to be over 2 minutes on artemis. HTC hotfix may have helped that.
Core player - very smooth flawless video. Excellent.
Youtube app - just amazing.
This leaves me with one final tweak to complete my customisation (for now anyway) - increasing volume, it's too quiet.
I tried the audiopara3.csv fix with total commander but it doesn't work, can anyone help me get the volume louder? It seemed to overwrite the old file but volume is the same. When I then tried to delete the audiopara3.csv file in the windows folder with total commander, it wouldn't let me delete it, which makes me wonder if it even overwrote the file at all. Thanks.
