Hi there,
I tried to use Google Maps for Windows Mobile in my Kaiser, but when it try to use the GPS it returns an error about can't establish communication with GPS.
Anyone knows how to configure Google Maps WM for work with Kaiser GPS.
B.T.W. How I can get the same Maps from Java MIDP Google Maps application into Windows Mobile native Google Maps software? Because maps for my country can be seen in Java app but not in native software.
Regards,
Taguapire.

This was answered in the GPS thread a couple of posts down. Google Maps does not wait long enough for the connection. There is a work around, but it is a Google Maps issue:

There aren't that many threads here yet in this forum. Try a search. This has been answered several times before.
I have no problem using the built-in GPS and Google Maps. I have it set to use the "Set by Winodws" option. I have only seen an error when I cant get a fix in the alloted time, and using the QuickGPS download feature usualy resolves that.

Explain how you start up Google Maps then, maybe the ones who have issues can use your method
There was good information in one of the posts in this forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330634&page=3) about how to use Google maps. Find post by zachto in second or third page of that thread. You have to download GPS Viewer. Set GPS to COM4 and 4800 baud. Then you activate GPS as a "cold start" (one of the options of GPS viewer) and leave it on. Then open Google Maps and give it the command to "track location". It works from there. GPS viewer is at http://pocketmap.com/accessories/GpsViewer.exe
It's simpler than that, just use any GPS application to get a fix, BEFORE trying google maps. After you can get a fix, Google Maps will work. After this, subsequent use of Google Maps does not require any other programs to get a fix.
Hey guys, so i had tomtom 6.030 that i used with my hermes. I got my kaiser a couple days ago and i put my microSD card from my hermes into my kaiser and ran TomTom off my SD card.
It worked well with the internal GPS and i decided to upgrade to 6.032 from the cab found on xda-devs. Upgrade went fine, when i started it and I selected my Texas map it kept asking me for my activation code which i couldn't find. So i shot off an email to TomTOm and while waiting for their reply i decided to download the free map tomtom was offering me.
I installed Austin_TX map, got my activation code from tomtom but now when i'm using any map and i tap "navigate to" my poi's are gone!
before i upgraded i had a ****load of pois, such as atms, restaurants, gas stations, etc... now nothings there
i know have to fire up live search, find the place i'm looking for, remember that address, start tomtom and manually enter the address which is very annoying. so how can i get my POI's back?
The POI's are held in the map folder, you should have a folder called 'Texas' or something like that.
Copy the POI's from that folder into your new 'Austin' folder and they should be back.
Tomtom on Kaiser with internal GPS
Just wanted to ask how you got the version of Tomtom to recognise the internal GPS on the Kaiser? I've taken the version 6 I used on my XDAIIs - loaded it onto the Kaiser and it refuses to see the internal GPS? if I load the demo version that comes with the Kaiser it see the GPS - anyone know how I can sort this one?
I've searched the forums and bnot found the answer to this question.
I've installed TT6 on my diamond, and it works fine, however, in order for it to get a GPS signal, I had to run google maps, and then in the menu click the turn on GPS. Presumably to turn off the GPS I'll have to go into google maps again and turn off the GPS. Is there some way of turning the GPS receiver on and off without having to go into google maps?
Thanks
Hope you don't mind me asking but how did you get GPS to work with Google maps?
When I try i get the following error;
"This programme require a data connection. Please contact your carrier or visit www.google.co.uk/gmm/configure.html on your computer for more info.
(Error: connectError [183])
With Quit or Retry the only options.
Sorry
@mcvpjd3: Believe me, you do NOT want that thing running all the time because if you do, your battery will be dead in under 2 and a half hours!!
Google maps should turn the GPS reciever on and off automatically when it is needed, as should TomTom or any other GPS program.
When nothing is talking to the GPS reciever, it goes into powersave and turns off.
Google maps has the option to use it with or without GPS and so you have the option to turn it on and off, but it should be turned off automatcially when you close the program.
@so3:does the message "This programme requires a data connection" not give you a clue?
You need a data connection for google maps to work. Just like google maps and google earth on the PC, it downloads the map and satellite images from google over the internet. If you haven't got a data connection, then it won't even start up. Sorry for the sarcasm, but that message is really self explanatory and it really does tell you what the problem is. of course, if there is more info that you have not given that would help us figure it out a bit more, i apologise and please feel free to elaborate.
Lol you're so funny...
anyway I gave up getting TomTom 6 to work on my diamond.. I just installed TomTom Navigator 7 instead and it works fine...

How did you get TomTom Navigator 7 to work with your TomTom 6 maps, or are you just restricted to the single city trial that comes with it?
I found no mention on the TomTom site on version 7 and I have no way to buy maps or switch to another map within the software.
My TomTom home on my PC recognises it as a tomtom device and lets me load my Western Europe maps onto it, but I don't have the option to switch to the maps from within the software? Instead I have a button that has Voucher written on it that takes me to some HTC website???
just restricted to the single city map as far as i know. I don't think 7 likes the version 6 maps, but if you have any version 7 maps, they should work fine.
As for TT6, I did get that working on the diamond, but i had to set 'other NMEA' as the device type, 9600 as the baud rate and then com 4 as the com port.
Then seemed to work on and off, but got much better when i turned aGPS off using schaps advanced config.
TT7 just picked up the internal GPS chip staright away, and this thing is SOOOOO much faster than my Athena to get a signal it is unbelievebale!

Thanks - any idea how I can buy the v7 maps? I'm actually quite annoyed because I bought a brand new copy of TT6 2 days ago and it came with version 6.6 maps, and the tomtom site is now trying to sell me an 'upgrade' to v6.75 maps, but it won't let me buy v7 :s

You can't use the V7 maps within tt6. You can buy the v7 maps thru the tomtom store but then you need tomtom 7 wich isn't official released yet. If you have tt7 you can use the old v6 maps.

Hmm... Well I have a licensed version of tt6 with licensed tt6 maps (v6.6) but I can tell you for sure that these v6.6 maps don't work with tt7.
With tt7 installed, my tomtom home recognises the tomtom device and lets me copy the maps to it, but they don't appear as an option under manage maps in tt7. The only option I have is the map I downloaded from HTC or a button that says 'voucher' which takes me to the same download page on the HTC website. It also doesn't recognise 6.75 maps so unless someone is doing something dodgy to get the maps to work, I can't see how it will work with them.
I managed to get tt6 working on my diamond now though, so I'm happy for the moment. I don't think the extra features of tt7 are worth it but maybe I'll get an upgrade if they offer one when it's officially released.

Did you ever configure the GPS option in TT6? InTT7 it defaults to internal GPS receiver anyway.

TT7 gps is very fast compared to tt6. About the maps: Do a search on the internet. 6.75 works with tt7 but we are not allowed to talk about this (see the closed topic over tt7).

hmm you're right...
Probably
Generally it's not wise to use warez, let alone admit that you are. Regardless, it might be best to not mention it for the fact that you may be suspended / banned as other posts stipulate.

I had TR home installed on my PC - V1.5 (with TT app version as 6.010 and maps. I updated to version the latest version of the maps for version 6 and then install the Cab of 7 on my device over-writing the 6 app.
All works well.
I've installed TT7 on my Tilt and the install went fine. I've even downloaded the one free city (Miami) map. However, when I start up the software all I ever get is the waiting for a valid gps signal. I've run the quickgps to get the latest updates. Are there any other settings that I need to look at? I've read something about gpstest and gpsrouter but really don't know much about those. Am I missing something or have I done something wrong?
Update: Well I drove around for about an hour after work and it finally kicked in and started working. But, looks like I have a Map issue. I live about a mile from the ocean and Tom Tom is working cuz i see my position and the ocean is nearby. But, the area where I am is just one big green mass. I didn't see my address/street when I went to set that up either.
1) Running GPStest and minimizing it makes it get a fix sooner.
2) You are not on the map you have. Tomtom doesn't have a very large map area compared to where you want to be, apparently.
Even after downloading the latest maps for your city, some places are still not available. With TT7, I believe you can edit or download map edits and such from other users. I'm not sure whether this is only with POI's or with 'blank areas' as well.
Btw, I don't think that it would show your address when you're are home. Even after you've entered the address, it would probably show that you're somewhere very near.
had the same thing happen to me. I selected to download the free Houston, Tx map, unfortunatly I live outside of downtown, and I am in a green blob as well. If you buy a full map of your state, or find if your in a subcity (smaller city just outside) then you need to try to find the right map.
Anyone know where I can get a cab file of GPSTest?
use a search engine like google!
http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&q=GPSTest&btnG=Google-Suche&meta=
http://classic.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=24687&associateid=9
another test tool: VisualGPSce
its best to run the test when u are outside (duhh lol found out the hard way lol, lacked common sense) i first installed the Wilmington DE map and then from my acutally GPS tomtom i copied the US and Canada Map over to my phone and ran another application to make it compatible to TT7 and now the GPS works better
Thanks for the files. Any suggestions on where to find some good maps? I drove into work this morning and the Tom Tom failed to get a connection. Has anyone else experienced and or solved this lengthy connection time issues?
Maybe I should start a new thread for this but as the title of this thread is non-specific I thought I'd post here rather than creating a new one. I installed TT7 on my kaiser yesterday after running TT6 for several months. I read that TT7 was compatible with both TT6 and TT7 maps, however when I loaded up TT7 and tried to access my existing map of Western Europe it did not appear in the list of available maps. Is there a solution for this problem or does anyone know where I can get a "trial" version of Western Europe map for TT7?

TT6 maps are NOT compatible with TT7. Also, there is no trail for WE - you have to buy it (£49.95) from TomTom and follow the instructions in respect of hacking TTH2.3 with the tweaked jar file, downloading the map you bought to your pc, manually transferring it (and the activation file) to your SD card and voila.
I did this very thing last night and it runs a treat!
OK, I am using the new TomTom 7.910.9185 with 6.75 maps. Everything has worked fine. However, I downloaded some new TomTom maps (725), deleted the 6.75 maps from my storage card and put the new maps on. I couldn't activate the new maps right way, so I deleted them and copied the 6.75 maps back to my storage card.
I don't know what happened but ever since then TomTom takes about three minutes to start up. I reinstalled the app and it still lags. I didn't delete any files inside of the map folders so i'm not sure what the problem could be.
Any thoughts?
EDIT: never mind. activated new maps. problem solved.
