My Alpine has suddenly decided to drain its battery very quickly, for no obvious reason. It just went from 100% to totally flat overnight, and this is with GPRS, wi-fi and Bluetooth all switched off. Usually I can keep it at home in this state for several days with only a small drop in battery power.
I doubt the battery is at the end of its life - it's only a few months old, and it suddenly developed this problem, having been fine up until now.
Any suggestions anyone please?
hmmm....no idea about that...anyway you can check at http://www.batteryupgrade.com/ for more powerfull battery if you like it...
Has it only done it the once so far? Mine did it a couple of weeks ago for no reason, charged it back up and it has been fine ever since. Might just be a one off!
Mine has done this twice in the last 2 weeks
Happened since installing the Modded 162 / 1.04 rom from here?
Are others having the porblem using this ROM? if so may be worth a ROM change

I've now done a hard reset and this seems to have solved it. I'll let you know if it happens again. I doubt it's the ROM version, as I have the latest official O2 released ROM.
I've found the culprit!
... well, I have half an explanation anyway. Last week, I updated my ROM from the official O2 site - to Ext ROM 1.11.169. I have now hard reset and reverted back to 1.11.162 (with Radio 1.04), reinstalled my software, and it's all working as normal.
I run Tom Tom Navigator 5 - don't know whether this had anything to do with it, but the power drain characteristics were similar to if I'd left Tom Tom running (except I know it was definitely closed down). I even hard reset and uninstalled Tom Tom and the problem was still there - until I did the ROM downgrade to .162 again.
Anyway - it's fixed - I hope this is useful if someone else gets this problem.
Andy.

Hello,
I have upgraded my Imate PDA2k ROM Helmi_BA_WM2k5_AKU3.5_v1.4.CF2 R2 by baniaczek for about a month now. It has been working perfectly fine with no much issues on Wifi and other stuff. But since last one week i see my battery runs out within 3 hours and each time i had to re-charge the same. Even though the usage is really minimal. ( May be 2 or three calls and no real PDA usage). Also i feel the device is heated up most of the time. Are there any diagnostic tools for battery ?. .. Is this caused by any program running continously.
Any suggestions to find out the battery problem.
It is probably a running program or some activated interface (GPRS, IrDA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi). Make sure they are all deactivated.
Thanks for the reply. I have tried disabling BT/WiFi / GPS ( even deleted GPS Connections ). Still the battery runs only for 3 to 4 hours. How can i figure out which of the applications might be causing the problem ??..... ( As i stated in my previous post things were fine two weeks back ). I can not figure out!... Can this be a hardware problem ?. Should i try flashing the ROM again ?.
Any suggestions will be of great help.
Thanks.
Is the backlight always on?
No. I think its a hardware problem. I flashed the ROM again and still the battery was draining really fast. Anyways i will change the battery now and check.
regards
Perhaps the battery is getting life expired. THe most common indication of expiring battery is that it stats taking longer to charge and gets drained faster...Try replacing the battery..
Your right but it shouldn't happen in so great leap. You said that you flashed another ROM. Try doing master reset and leave the device in factory-fresh state - do not restore anything from backup imediately. If it is fine then, it is a software problem. If it is not, try turning on the flight mode for determining if it is GSM related. I'm afraid that a new battery won't solve anything.
?
i'm guessing that your IR is turned on since you did not state it on your post earlier!
IR eats your battery like pacman does.

It would still be interesting to have battery diagnostics software. Does anyone know of such a package?
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/benchmark/batterytests.html?en
might be useful for testing.. could potentially try different screen brightness and speeds to get a comparison. I will say that I used to only get 1 day from my old OEM battery.. got one of the e-bay special 2500mAh and now it easily gets 3 days with the same usage pattern as before..
After a long time again a re-post on this. Well my problems seems to be not getting over. I flashed the PDA2k to factory state and still the battery was draining. Then next obvious thing was to replace the battery. Now i have a brand new battery and reflashed again to factory state and my fears are coming true... still the battery drains in 3 hours... what next guys ?.

have you checked ur infra red setting? make sure its OFF! i think, it is turned on as default after flashing! or maybe your charger is defective! try someones charger!
IR disabling has not helped in the past. But i tried again but no much use. The equipment is heated up during normal usage time. Is there any thing more i can try before my BA becomes a history. ( BTW. the repair center refused take anything other than the screen changes and battery replacements. !!.. )
Any one having any idea how to reset the bios ?. I think my battery problems are related to trying out the Trial Version of Pocket Hack Master to overclock the PDA. I have uninstalled it long time back and may even have performed three to four times ROM updates but may not have reset the software's overclocking settings back .. ?!!...
BTW. The service center argued out that the any ROM updates other than official Imate ROM will void the warrantee and twice they returned without repair and attributed the the problem of heating to ROM updates... ( without even checking!! ...
I faced the same problem when attempted to upgrade my Harrier. I agree, that there must be an error somewhere in the device BIOS that cannot be that easily reflashed. Unfortunately, I could not find any solution and had to replace the useless phone that drained the battery within 4-5 hrs.
Yes the over clocking eatsup the battery as well as causes heating up the device. So better dactivate the over clocking..
anyone else besides me here discovering reboots all of a sudden?
happened to me 3 days back twice in half an hour and yesterday once again.
i've no clue why! battery was almost fully charged ... it kinda annoys me pretty much!
checked my settings twice (option "turn off after 30 mins of inactivity" is turned off).
frist two times happened with the original o2 rom, now i use bepe's 0.54 premium ger rom and it happened again. doesn't look like it's something rom specific ...
anyone an idea?
If it is not ROM specific, I would suspect some hardware problems.
same here, happend a;lready 4 nights in a row ???
Hi,
So I know the battery life is not great on the Diamond but normally I get a good days use out of it. Today I'm not sure why but in only 4 hours I'm down to 1/10 bars. The funny thing is the Diamond was really hot and I don't know why, I closed all applications. Anyway I did a soft reset and it seems to be cooling down now, but the battery will be completely dead soon enough. I think one phone call will do it, and I actually haven't even used it for phone calls today, just a few SMS. Any idea what could cause this sudden drain on the battery?
sounds like something was running in the background.
it gets hot when theres load on the cpu.
What applications have you installed and what ROM are you using?
yeah I figured it's probably some process running that I was unaware of, after the reset it's fine. A colleauge here had a mini usb charger so I was able to charge it up.
I'm running Project Diamond WWE, don't remember the exact version but probably the most recent one, I flashed it about 3 weeks ago.
Not too much extra software on there, I've got GSen, S2U2, Advanced Configuration util, and I recently installed Tom Tom v7.
maybe the government has been checking by remotely switching
on the MIC on your phone.

Hello, I am new to this forum but it seems like the right place to post this.
I did some searching on this forum and I saw that I was not the only one with this problem, however I did not find any answers to the posts regarding this. I am hoping some suggestions will show up in this thread though
My Diamond has been acting very strange for about a week now. All of a sudden, my batterytime decreased from a (for me) normal time of about two days, to about 30 minutes. Also the bottom part of the phone gets really hot.
What's even more strange is that two days ago it somehow just went back to being fine?! Today it's back to it's weird hot/battery devouring state.
ROM-version: 1.37.413.3 SVE (Yes, I know I should update it...)
Radioversion: 1.00.25.03
PowerGuard says:
Battery Current: -324 mA
Battery Voltage: 3542 mV
Battery Temp: 38,9 C
I also have a few applications installed, like the answerkeys disabler app and G-alarm. But other than that it's pretty much stock.
Has anyone heard about this before? I don't really like the idea of sending it in for repair since it's about 10 days without my precious phone =)
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
i have read on here before that it sometimes is fixed (or reduced) by updating the Radio.
i believe the BS14 radio is the best one for reducing heat and improving battery life.

I have had a similar experience....a day or better battery life has been norm for a month, until the other day when I noticed my phone was very warm/hot and had burned an abmormally high perentage of the battery life in two hours. I also had one occurrence where instead of the normal 7-8% overnight burn, it had used 70% of the battery life. I'm still trying to see if I can catch the culprit; some sort of latch up of the hardware or a program not behaving.
Let us know if your problem does go away with a different radio. I have a stock US GSM and am happy with the radio performance...(unless it's eating my battery when I'm not looking.
Ah, so I'm not alone then!
I have not yet had the time to try this as I have been working too much, but I will try updating the radioversion before I buy a new battery or something, that's for sure...
I'll post in this thread with results when I'm done!
By the way, if I upgrade my ROM, will that also update the radioversion?
I installed TouchLockPro 3 days ago on my BELL HTC Diamond, which is a CDMA one.
After playing with the settings, I got it working well. I really liked it.
But during 3 days trial, I decided to abandon it and try something else:
Two problems:
1) Diamond dead once. Just stayed in stand by mode, I couldn't turn it back on by pressing the power button. I had to take the battery out.
2) With the charge cable (original one) connected. after about 8 hours, Diamond started to keep reseting itself. On and Off, on and off. I had to take the battery out to get Windows Mobile started, and uninstall the TouchLockPro. And I found that the battery level is almost 0. So somehow even with the charger connected, it drained the battery and not allow the cell phone to be charged.
Of course, I cannot say those two problems were caused by Touchlockpro for sure. But just post it here to share what happened to my Diamond after I installed the latest version of TouchLockPro.
Thanks
Ordered Pocketshield. Very nice software!
Just used for a day. So far sooooo good!

Too bad you did experience problems with your phone. However I did not hear anyone else having this sort of problems with TouchLockPro. There are a lot of Diamond CDMA users, so I doubt if TouchLockPro is responsible for your problems. There is a newer version 2.8 available today. So if you decide to try TouchLockPro again and you still experience problems, I am glad to help to find the cause. Because only in this way TouchLockPro can get better. But I expect the problems are unrelated to TouchLockPro. I hope your problems will keep away, if you try other locking solutions.
