Hi All!
I am interested in upgrading my O2 XDA IIs (which I assume is a Blue Angel) to Windows Mobile v5.0. However, I am new to the ROM Upgrade scene, and therefore have a few questions!
1) Will my phone still work after I have upgraded? I use O2 on a post-pay GPRS contract.
2) Are there any downsides to having to upgrade?
If someone could either post back here or contact me through any of my listed methods to assist me in upgrading the phone?
Many Thanks!

Try reading Wiki..
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM5_Home
This will give you all the information you need to make the decision.. Remember, it needs to be your decision and not what anyone else recommends.. Personally, I still use the WM2003SE as it's better suited for my business needs and I need the [relative] stability that 2003 gives..
You also need to consider your skill level in playing with your device.. not only about "taking backdoor routes" to updating your BA but to also tweeking it using a Registry Editor..
There's nothing worse then seeing a post stating "HELP - I'VE BORKED MY BA!" as they were not too sure what they were doing..
Remember, reading is the best form of knowledge!
Hope this helps..?
Cheers.
I looked through the wiki earlier (before my post) - no details on whether it would still work. I took the plunge anyway and I am glad I did It worked fine.

I know you're all sick of posts about Windows Mobile 5.0 - I've read the FAQ, ubt I'm still a little confused. I'm not really a hacker - a firmware update is a big deal to me, let alone a complete new ROM!!
In the wiki thing there are four versions of WM5 for the Blue Angel (Or XDA IIs as I knew it before I came here). Where have these come from? Are these unofficial hacks, which will void my warranty and not necessarily work? Why are there four different versions of what should be the same thing?
Do Microsoft themselves produce a WM5 update for this device? Is it officially supported? I have a corporate device, and I don't mind using this as an excuse to upgrade to the XDA Exec, but I don't want my boss to tell me I wasted money on a new device when I could have just upgraded mine to use MS Push mail.
Thanks, and sorry for the muppet n00b post!
>Where have these come from?
From talented people who thinks that original ROM sucks
>Are these unofficial hacks, which will void my warranty and not necessarily work?
Yes.
>Why are there four different versions of what should be the same thing?
They are like programs, some works better than others even though they are the same thing (e.g. web browser, all the same thing). And probably the most noticeable is the ext rom where different version will have different supporting software included.
>Do Microsoft themselves produce a WM5 update for this device?
No. Microsoft to not seems to support any WM5 (or W2K) device's OS. It is up to the manufacturer to do the supporting/upgrading. E.g. HP provide their own upgrades/support for older PDA (e.g. Hx4000 series) to upgrade to WM5
>Is it officially supported?
If you get an official update (e.g. from your phone company) it will be supported. But I don't there is an official upgrade to WM5 for BA devices. Double check and correct me if I'm wrong. But, you might get lucky/unlucky to have athe push mail support, I guess.
>I have a corporate device, and I don't mind using this as an excuse to upgrade to the XDA Exec, but I don't want my boss to tell me I wasted money on a new device when I could have just upgraded mine to use MS Push mail.
I would suggest you get a new one (as it is not your own money). Unless your boss or people around him is highly technical about HTC devices, it is very unlikely that he will know if there is an upgrade for it.

There are some other posts describing the ROMs in this forum. Do a search for all the rom names in one query and you'll find discussion on them.
Excellent, thats answered all my queries! Thanks a lot...
And thanks for not hating me!
I figured this would be an appropriate place to ask this.
Last Week I purchased a used sx66/PH20B1 (cingular) and obviously looking to upgrade to WM 5.0
After a week of looking through this forum, I'm a bit confused as to which version I need. I don't want to turn my device into a paperweight.
I read the post of WM5 Roms summaries which was very helpful.
I saw the "ROM to WM 5 Build 14343 " for GSM PH20B1. at THIS post This seems like the most appropriate one But i'm not sure if this is like the best "unofficial" one to use. OR should I use one such as tuma or logout?
Benq-siemens has a ROM update on their website HERE
not sure if this is WM5 though..or just an update to WM2003
Please help
Thanks!
If yout thinking of uprading to WM5 to use push email then i'm afraid your out of luck, the push email element of WM5 first came out in AKU 2, so far no matter how hard we try (mainly tuatara, grats to him) no-one has managed to get anything above AKU 1.1 booting on a BlueAngel, so in short NO PUSH EMAIL!
looks lik your gonna have to get a shiney new universal

I don't care about Push email. I don't mind checking my email once and a while instead of getting it immediatly. I just want WM5 for the new features. (Maybe I'm crazy and it's not worth it :?: )
I just want to make sure I use the right ROM when upgrading so I don't destroy my device
Thanks for the info though..I didn't know that
my post was actually in reply to the first guy, i hadn't even read yours
with regards to your situation you can use any WM5 rom (TuMa, Logout's, Ivan's or ArtZ's) however you must edit the 'set operator.bat' in a text editor (I use notepad) so that all referances to 'PH20B' are changed to 'PH20B1', then follow the instructions in the readme as normal.
Personally on rom choice i would reccomend TuMa for ease of use (but wait until 1.5 as 1.3 is slow an 1.4 is buggy) or Ivan's as a clean rom that you can customise yourself.

Cool beans. thanks! Do these roms have applications such as Terminal Services, Windows Media Player 10, Outlook etc? (I didn't see it in the list, and not sure if you can download them) These are what I really want, And couldn't find info on where to download them.
And lastly, is it easy to revert back to WM2003 if you don't have the original ROM (Just incase it doesn't work out for me)
Sorry for all the questions. :?

yes, just go to the seimens website and download thier latest update, that is easiest, however you can also mix and match bits of other 2k3se roms and use a later radio version (afaik 1.13 is the best)
hope this helps

Not to be an arse about it, but it's obvious that you did no research on this question before posting. A search of the forums would have shown you the thread located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=244441&highlight=CDMA+Harrier+wm5
You might get more results if you at least look first. If you have looked, you didn't state it and your post sounded like you couldn't be arsed enough to look.
Again, I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm trying to make a point that many people seem to have problems grasping.
I've searched the forums many times, and I would still post the question from time to time if others didn't just to be sure someone didn't just discover something.
I personally would like to know if there is a Harrier CDMA upgrade to WM5 or WM6 that forgoes the the radio, or if someone has tried to use the radio "drivers" out of a 6700 (Apache) to any degree of sucess. In my research, I've seen the idea floated, but I'm not sure how deeply the situation has been probed.
I do appreciate the work Helmi and others do, and I simply want to know if there is any update on this front.
Guys, does a harrier get completely bricked if it is upgraded to WM6 or does it just lose its radio/phone functionality? The reason I ask is I am a Kaiser user but I have my old Verizon Harrier that I'd like to make use of its gorgeous 3.5" display for movies while in the car (very safe, I know).
I'm on ATT now, so no more Verizon. I'd be using this device strictly for its PDA functionality.
I realize I can just use TCPMP on the wm2003 OS as is, but i figured there were some chefs that had done some pretty sweet roms for the device. Heck, I don't even need WM6, I'll just take the best Rom, regardless of which winmo version.
I know in the kaiser forums, duttythroy is pretty much the heavyweight chef. Is there a similar heavyweight rom or chef that everyone tends to lean towards on the harrier/BA? I spent about 15 mins doing some searches and reading Wikis but honestly couldn't find any info on harrier cooked roms.
It is now possible that Harrier could be hacked.
Unfortunately, the HTC CDMA hacking community has moved on. The HTC encryption on the ROM wasn't broken until after Harrier was long discontinued.
And, with new devices sporting gpsOne and EV-DO Rev A, there are now clear technical advantages to modern devices.
Ideally, HTC would have done the right thing and kept supporting older models. But, you already know that...
I don't care about the radio on the Harrier
As the previous poster mentions...Can I slap a Blue Angel ROM on my Harrier if I don't care about the radio? It would be a great 2nd device if I could get WM5 or WM6 on it. Again...I don't need (nor want) the CDMA radio on it to work.
Thanks.
no sir, tried myself, almost bricked phone DO NOT DO IT.
Hi,
I have just got the TYTN II from Hong Kong and I have been going through this forum about how to go about upgrading the ROM to WM6.1, however I see so many tutorials etc. Can anyone give me advise on a step by step and what needs to done to upgrade ot the latest WM6.1 ROM with advise on the Radios to be installed? BTW the unit is used in Australia with the 3 Network.
Thank and much appreciated for any help.
I'd like to help, but I don't know how to do that either. So, good luck...
Guys, it's only a matter of time before you incur the wrath of the n00b bashers that sadly patrol this forum. However for what it's worth my recommendation is that you use the search facility on this forum. All the information you require is here, use keywords like "radio" and "rom" and you willfind the relevant wikis. The 6.1 roms are pretty new here and some are still in beta and as I found out myself some of them don't work with the new 6.1 radios. I seriously believe you will reap the benefits if you read through the relevant posts rather than asking. Power to the n00bs!

Hmmmm,
Although,I can answer this very precisely, and I'm tempted to,but I'll just say that after 236 posts, you still can't find official carrier's wm5 rom of your phone, that's even more Sick !
Cheers!
What does posts have to do with this?
why don't try finding it? maybe you'll know what i mean.
I did my search fool. i'm not some asshole that made a new topic to make others search it for me.

That proves it ! Never heard of a latest wm5 8125 Rom that uses Tmo.Posts have got everything, with that number of posts, you shud have known, there's no such Rom. Cingular 8125 and T-mobile MDA are basically same devices build by HTC.Any Wizard wm5 rom, either from cingular or T-mobile will flash and work perfectly on it.You searched you never found it,just a 'Hint' , you'll find all the latest official wm5 stock roms here,"Read the freaki'n forum":-

Secondly,I wud rather advise you to check your language, abusive words won't get you anywhere.I can also be very abusive, but I prefer to be polite, respectfull and calm. This Forum doesn't encourage and promote abusive and hostile attitude, you might get penalized if reported or 'Moderator' finds out. Be careful there.
thank you for the link.
I know either frimware can be used on the 8125, but i wanted the most stable one for the 8125 and used the t-mo frimware. because for most of the frimware i tested shows t-mo on the load screen. for the ones that doesn't show t-mo it wasn't that stable with my network.
Also, was not being hostile or abusive to you. unless you consider the word "fool" as abusive. then im sorry, I say the word Fool often to people.
and i didn't call you an asshole if thats that's what you're thinking, I was simply implying i wasn't one. and people that usually ask without searching are.
so no need to feel offending.
anyway, thanks for the link. and i don't see how posts costs for experience. Most of my posts are asking questions in topics.
if you want to know why i'm sick of WM6 frimwares, here are the main reasons:
*phone hangs when i'm doing something, and then a call comes in.
*typing too fast on the keypad or keyboard will case the phone to soft reset, like typing an email reply.
*the phone hangs when an alarm starts and I never get to hear my alarm.
Hi All,
My wife got my an XDA 11i it has an upgrade to wm 6.1, it works fine however the wifi doesnt work and it is a little slow, basically i would like to get back the original os version windows 2003 so my questions are as follows.
1. can i downgrade to the original oS
2. Where can i get the rom from
3. Or is there a standalone wireless driver.
Thanks in advance
Mark
Then Mark you have something a lot of people (not me) would give their eye teeth for a XDA IIi with more than 2003SE are you absolutely positive that you have????
But I would have thought that a download of the last "Real" ROM from O2's Irish site (loads of links around here if you search) would have sorted it back to 2003SE
Its definitely 6.1 but without wireless its useless to me as i need to use it on the move wirelessly, what are the irish url's
I needs these roms asap and you could spend weeks on this site serching the forum and ive just started a business and i require the xda on the go.
i just want a xda11i original rom so i can make sure the wireless isnt a hardware issue them i may upgrade again once i know it works.
Thanks Mark
Given all the information above i would say this is actually an XDA II, aka Himalaya, that would account for both the WM6.1 and the absence of WiFi. easy way to check is go to
Start - Settings - Device Information and select the Identity tab, report back which Model it is. i am not a gambling person but even money says it is PH10B, this makes it a Himalaya.
As for the advice re ROMs and Ireland site, search www.O2.ie for ROMs for both Himalaya and Alpine, XDA II and IIi respectively. Make sure you get the right ROM as you run the risk of wrecking it completely.
Hi Deedee,
It looks like it is an XDA 11, so it looks like there aint no wireless.
So it is now the xda 2003 rom i need.
Thanks
It's Xmas, I am in a good mood so here's the link, just pick the right ROM.
O2 ireland XDA ROM
Took two clicks and one search, go to O2.ie, search for "XDA ROM" and pick the fourth option.
Personally i'd stay with WM6.1, the Himalaya I have for mucking about with is WM6, never felt the need to return to WM2003. Is there a technical reason for downgrading? You are going to fond so much that won't work it's probably not worth the effort, apart from the experience. Also you may not get the Extended ROM back even following the downgrade.
