i have my xda2i and tt5 installed, and it runce nicely for an undetrmined amount of time then decides to close tomtom, i can reopen it and carry on but alas it keeps doing the same.
when i start tt5 i get the hands logo on the bottom bar apear but after every crash it seems to move along.
Any idears guys?
my old tt3 works flawlesly.
Firstly, make sure your using version 5.10, theres a small patch from the website that takes it from 5 to 5.10.
Second, consider it might be your SD card, slow older SD cards tend to make the device hang and/or slow down, which is a problem with the radio (mobile signal) and the SD card interface.
Cards above 80x speed generally work flawlessly.
Third try just a full re-install of the TT5 software, there might have been an error whilst installing thats causing it to crash.
i havent tried the update and i dont know what speed my card is, its the same card i used tomtom 5 with flawlessly in my old pda (loox600).
I'll try the update and see what happens.
Try this
Use the poi.dat from tt3.
I had a problem with the new rom where it crashed from time to time & also i couldn't nav to the poi without it crashing.
I used the poi.dat & i can now nav. it doesn't let me call the poi but it might solve your problem.
yay! when i used the tt5 poi and navigate to, it gave me the categories but no destinations when selected then would promptly crash, i put the tt3 poi.dat in and it will now searcha and nav to without crashing. will take her out on the road tonight and if i can get to my mums and back then alls well.
was a pain cos i went to newcastle a month ago (375mile) and it just kept crashing, i had to run it in guidance mode (no map, poi) so it must be the poi then cos it didnt crash like that.
will let you know my findings then you have a definitive answer for all you out there with the same issue.
Awesome
Happy with that if it works
What version of the rom are you running by chance?
ok, it dont crash now but it's so much slower in refreshing the map, about half the speed it was.
has anyone got an unaltered tt5 pio.dat file they can upload for me to try, i'm wondering if its happened when i used my free trial of tt plus and added thier speed camera databases. i could reinstall the maps but i'm nowhere near the orginal disk at the moment as its at work and i'm 'ill'.
I have a tomtom mobile pio which worked for a while then crashes, and have somone sending me a few different TT Go pio.dat's. worth testing them all.
my roms listed below chap.
Here is POI from TT 5.10, you said in your post that you had TT's speed camera database but I thought that you had to take out a 12 month contract.

You need to uncheck all the POIs you don't want to see on the map, that is what is slowing it down.
i activated the tt plus trial on the website for a month and grabbed all the extras, although i use pocketgpsworld.com for my speed camera databases.
I have all the poi deactivated already.
will try this poi.dat and keep you all posted as i know others with the same issues as i'm having.
i've tried a working 5 & it crashes but mine works fine with the 3 one. you could always delete all poi.dat & see if it is faster.
its still dying, with all tt pio.dat files. pain in the bottom, someone else on here has mentioned they have fixed this issue. grr
Is your copy a proper license? I used to use a pirate copy before I deceided to use the real thing. The pirate copy crashed all the time as you explained but the real copy wotks just fine.
genuine. though i have done updates and added my own poi, just wondering is any other software is clashing.
been using tt since version 2 and have had bothe mobile versions on a nokia.
if your sd card is not a 80x speed it will crash all the time ,have you tried a transend 80x card as it has been established to work well and isn't that expensive
I'm using a kingston elite pro (50X) SD Card with tomtom 5.10 with ALL the POI's checked and ALL the pocketgps.co.uk speed camera datebase POI's checked with alerts for the speed camera's and i have never had a lockup whilst driving using tomtom.
Maybe try hard-resetting your XDAIIi and installing everything manually NOT using sprite. That's what i did and my tomtom seems to work flawlessly.
What bluetooth gps are you using?
ive tried hard reset a few time, even only with tt on it. no luck.
i'm not sure what speed my card is, but looks like this is most probably the cause then, matter of finding some cash then i think, or getting just a small 128 80x to stuff it on for when i need it.
tried it without the pio.dat file, still crashes. grrr.
Yes, bearing in mind i have a soley-devoted kingston elite pro 512mb just for the GB Plus map and the French map.
Perhaps if you get rid of all the other stuff from the card by formatting it in a card reader, try using "media recover" search around for it on google as it will wipe the card clean, this takes a while, but it will restore your card to it's original condition when you first bought it.
Then for the formatting, try reading this post i posted ages ago...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=21920&highlight=lydiachris
Format your card this way to produce the best read/write times.
Now put all your data back onto your card, just copy then paste the files from your pc to your sd card. This will produce no fragmetation therefor your XDAIIi will not have to search around for the desired data on the card.
Give this a go and post your outcomes.
yay, i found a apprently modified ttn.cab file through file share, installed it to my xda, it downgraded me from 5.1 to 5.0 but hasnt crashed or paused since, although ive only tried it locally, it seems fine, trying to find the time to take it 50 miles+ and see if it works
gonna try out your formating trick soon chap, will keep you posted
New XDA2i - TomTom 5.10 crash/freezing....
Hi all!
I got my new XDA2i through insurance after my 1st one's screen smashed. Installed all my apps etc including the TomTom 5.1 update andddddd it freezes every so often again ! dammm!
So, I double checked everything, all ok, the only thing I can think of is that the newer ROM this handset has is the cause of the lockups again.
I've looked through the postings on this topic and see slightly different versions on the radio version, protocol version etc.
This new XDA2i (I havent changed the ROM) is
ROM - 1.11.00 WWE
ROM Date - 01/27/05
Radio Version - 1.00.00
Protocol Version - 1337.39
EXTROM version - 1.11.162 WWE
Is it possible that some of these versions are known to cause a problem even with the updated 5.1? ( by the way I have the special Bakonl update )
I use a Sandisk 1GB Card (normal speed), the TomTom silver BT GPS unit.
Interestingly, my brothers 'spare' XDA2s with this setup works flawlessly, so I know my install, SD card, GPS all work fine.
Any ideas guys? how do I update say just the radio version? or protocol version? so that my version match another user's version which are working with TT5.1 ?
I was really looking forward to getting GPS all working again as I've missed it these last 2 months ! and now it's doing that annoying freezing again!
Any ideas, recommendations, things to try will be greatly appreciated!
Cheers! Dennis! West London UK!!
Ah well that was a waste of a day.
Just got a Universal so I tried to set up my Alpine as a GPS unit as an excuse to keep it instead of being made to get rid of it by the other half, a combination of Hard Reset and then Soft Reset when it said "Customising in 3 seconds" I managed to get it with only 0.56MB used of Storage.
As I am using version 562 of the Great-Britain-Map I managed to squeeze the map folder onto the root directory of the Alpine (all 102MB of it), I then installed TomTom into the /Storage folder
Thinking "Ah ha! here we go!" I tried launching TomTom - went through all the "Language", "Voice" etc screens - and then disaster! "No maps found!", try as I might I can't get it to go past that screen. If I put in my SD card with the map on it then it finds the map but I don't want to have to use an SD card!!!
I've wasted 12 hours on this so far today, so if anyone has any bright ideas I'd greatly appreciate them, otherwise I'll bite the bullet and buy an additional card so I can use one for TomTom in the Alpine and one for Storage in the Universal.
G
Isn't it strange! You give up, go get a cup of tea and an idea pops into your head!
I created a folder called "storagecard" in the root directory of the Alpine (it won't let you create one called "storage card".
I moved the map from "/" to "/storagecard" started TomTom and voilla it works!!!
Alpine with no SD card running TomTom 5.21 - will see how it performs, but I now have an excuse for the missus!

Tea is great stuff, its what made this country great!
Just awaiting my delivery of TomTom and teh GPS so reading these thread with interest.
Tom
Interesting approach but I can't help asking why?
You are leaving very little memory for other applications and SD card prices are hardly extortionate these days. Can you get the Speed camera database in 'base' memory also?
Phil
Well I don't want to run any other applications so not too worried about there being a lack of memory and I wanted to find a use for the Alpine so that my wife wouldn't make me throw it out / sell it having just bought the Universal.
If I couldn't make it work then I'd have bought an SD card but it worked so I'm chuffed
Definition of annoying....
The GPS unit arrives - not the software!!!!!
What am I supposed to do this evening, sit and look at it?
Tom
Get VisualGPSCE (free, visualgps.net) and go for a walkabout, have a tinker just to see how the GPS receiver works
I want to install tomtom on my tmobile MDA. I didn't find tmobile MDA as supported device on tomtom.com website. Wondering if anyone out there has tried before. If you have tried successfully, can you share some experience please.
Thanks
TomTom
Hmmmmm... why not try searching?
Yeah I have TomTom 5.0 and 5.21 working ok on my T-MObile MDA. It was a bit of a trick to get it working. I installed both executables (5.0 and 5.21). The reason is: the MDA assigns my bluetooth GPS to COM6 and only TomTom 5.21 will recognize COM6. And I have USA maps that only TomTom 5.0 will recognize, 5.21 wont see it at all. So what I did was use 5.21 to configure it to use the Bluetooth GPS at COM6. Then exit and run TomTom 5.0 and change maps to use the HAWAII and other USA maps. Works good.

TOMTOM 6 - 5 STAR
I have just installed and tested tomtom 6 and is fantastic. not the slow moving map like 5.21 but flows smooooth. also it loads straight away. a bonus...
Just installed TomTom Navigator 5.0 to Qtek 9100, I had to install the cabs manually and copy the Voices to the device (from the memory card) because start.exe was doing nothing. But it works ok, upgraded it then to 5.21. Maybe this was required because Qtek is using MiniSD and I got TomTom on SD memory card and had to copy the stuff to MiniSD.

zaman487: Are you in Canada? Did you get the North America maps for Tomtom6? I have North America Map for TomTom6, but it's 1.2GB and I can't install it cause I only got a 1GB MiniSD card. Do you know if they have Individual US States? I mainly want Hawaii and California. I don't wanna buy 2GB MiniSD card just for TomTom6. My TomTom5 is working great with the individual states. But need updated maps to use with TomTom6.

I can upgrade in December with Vodafone but didn't fancy their branded device.
Ofiaich
same ere, but i thought i would try t-mobile varioIII it's a good phone only concern is network coverage, I will get 7 days to test it out. as a ex vodafone user
Hi!
Got about an hour to wait til it's charged up. I note it says 3 hours on the 'quick guide'
I was wondering about the memory card and yeah, I will RTFM.
When I format it, does Windows create a directory structure - videos, music, contacts etc or is that for me to do ?
I will go back to RTMing now...
Ofiaich
not sure i have never formatted my 2Gig stick.
Hi!

See some TomTom and GPS threads, they contain alot of information.
One way is to start TomTom or any other GPS program and then start Google Maps
Thanks Ves!
seen lots of Tom Tom threads.....
so after doing that, how do I close TT and keep the gps active?
What does google maps show? Maybe a blue dot or marker for where you are? Can I then drive off and I am tracked?
I will keep on experimenting !!

Has anyone got iGuidance 3.0.1 to work on a Tilt. I am getting mine tomorrow and really need this program to work. Thanks.
Sorry, 3.01 won't work on any WM6 device I believe. I found display issues, prog closes if you touch any key while navigating.
The good news is that v4 works great on WM6 and Kaiser for sure and I believe that it will work on Tilt as well. (If it won't work on tilt, I'd flash the tilt to the HTC rom).
V3.01 works GREAT on the Kaiser.
The only issue is that you need to disconnect the data connection or it wont boot up. Other than that, I have seen very few issues.
(If you dont disconnect data, it may take iNav 5 minutes or so to load up. When disconnected, it takes about 3 seconds on mine).
I have iguidance v4, but I have a problem with the maps. Instructions tell me to load the map folder on my SD card, but I don't want to put 1.4GBs worth of maps when I only want 1 or 2 states for the time being. Is there any way to just load 1 state's map?

Data Connection w/ iGuidence
Thanks for the tip about the data connection! That was driving me crazy. How did you figure that out?

V3.01 came with a map-loader which let you select exactly what you wanted.
Look in your program files and see if you can find something like that.

Trolling these boards and emails to iGuidance support. Glad it helped.
yeah i to don't like the map size so i went back to v4 until i get a 6GB card (or 8GB)
there is no map loader with v4 from what I have seen so I believe you are stuck on that point.. hopefully there is a solution to it that i just don't know of
Did you do anything unusual to get iGuidance 3.0.1 working? I keeps crashing on me on a fresh out of the box Tilt. Do you have it installed in main memory or on the storage card? I put it on the card and I'm wondering if that is my problem.
I knew about disconnecting the data, coming form an 8525 and an BT GPS
I'm suprised that 3.0.1 works on WM6, it closed abruptly on my 8525 (running Black Satin WM6) every time I touched any display button while actively navigating. Only the v4 worked solid for me. I personally don't miss the map loader since now the a single file contains the whole country including Hawaii, something you could never load except by itself due to some goofy NavTec contract issue. The v4 map is only 1.3 gig and 4gig micro SD's are now fairly available and reasonably priced.
I tried it and it took like 5 minutes to come up after clicking on the icon. Not good.

Read previous posts on this thread. Disconnect Data before booting it up and it should be fine.

I didnt do anything special. I just loaded it up on the device (Storage card option) and went to town.
yeah i just loaded it on the device and put the map on the card. true about it only being 1.3gb but while i only have 2gb overall, until i get a new card.

IGuidance v.3 works great (and is, imo, the best gps software available) on AT&T Tilt. Version 4, because it is one continuous map (instead of individual state files) is an all or nothing install. If that is a problem, I have a nice almost-brand new version 3 that I would ever so happy to trade you for so you can load only the states you need. Let me know.

OK now I see the problems you are talking about. It starts up just fine and if I'm just using it to follow where I am (not navigating) it works fine, but if you tap the menu button to set a destination or try to pan the map, it locks up. This is on a freshly hard reset Tilt with nothing else installed at the moment. Program installed to main memory and the maps on SD.
OK I kind of found a solution (and maybe the reason why some people have it working.) The on screen keys will quit working after it goes into full screen mode. The solution unfortunately is going back to 3.0. That works for me because I don't use the spoken directions. I've seen over on gpspassion.com that 4.0 still has some bugs, so I will wait until they patch it to make the switch.
What did you guys do to get the GPS working? I just got my tilt today and I can't figure out how to get the GPS info working into iGuidance....any help would be awesome.
just make sure the gps settings in i guidance are set to port 4 with the 4800 baudrate. let me know if there are any problems.
p.s. make sure you mention your exchange server on the kaiser forum for those that didn't go from hermes to kaiser.

Ya I finally got it to work. I had it set up like that, but the phone wasn't picking up satelites in my house...but when I went outside it started working.
I'll re-post another forum thread later today for Exchange in the Kaiser forum.
