Wizard ROM ported to BA boot screen question - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

hi there, its been a while since i have posted here properly,
i just upgraded to the new wizard ported rom, i must say that i love it, and yes, its fast as hell and as stable as a steel beam, but there is just one thing that puzzles me and id like it if someone could explain this to me.
i understand that with the first wm5.0 that xda developers produced we was unable to change the boot screen as there was no Ext rom. ( i think anyway, if that waswnt the reason, please correct me.
i know there still isnt a Ext rom on this new V2 of wizard ported rom, but does it mean that the rom was taken from the wizard device and placed onto the Blue angel??
i would have thought that even the wizard rom would have had a bootscreen that would have been ported with the rom.
do i have the right point???, or have i got totally the wrong idea all together??
cheers!! 8)

wizard2ba v2a ROM has extended ROM, it is hidden. You may use old tools to unhide it (it is not necessary to unlock it, it is already unlocked).
Unfortunately the boot logo is kept in a different place in WM5 than in WM2003, and I cannot find where it is. One of my old test ROMs displayed garbage dots over the colored lines, but I was unable to find where are they coming from. So I know that it is possible to change boot logo, but we just don't know how to do that.

ooooooh , ok sir mamiach, lol
in that case to find it, what would you need to look for and how did you find it in 2003?
you are a genius mamiach.

anybody know hoe to change BOOT splash image on WM5 ?????
Hmm, I tried the solution from Buzz - but haven't worked for me. Another chance would be "Promasters Autoinstaller". A small proggi, made by a german freak. All Ext. Rom Cab's from different providers are included, but I hadn't enouth space to install the whole cab files. I'll try it maybe today evening. There are the splash images from VF, O2, T-Mob etc. included, and you can change them with only one click.

ok
@Indra: No solution yet :lol:
fortunately the procedure from himalaya lower OS ver to wm5 is the same...maybe the old procedure of BA works...

So your saying to try it with a wm2003 splash screen for the angel, well i can give it a try, i think i skipped this one due all the commotion of this release 8)
I tried an tried it again. but nothing worked.
But the facts for me are now:
- Splash screen is not stored in the /my documents folder like wm2003
- External rom is only 128k, and not a couple of mb's
- Himalaya Splash screens are stored on the extended rom. they still have one.
- Jasjar Splash screen heard nobody complaining, and they have also a extended rom.
So i think i downgrade this weekend back to wm2003, create a extended rom of a few mb's
going back to wm2005, make my extended rom visible and try it again, i cannot figure out another way to do it, and if it not works,
wow, that's a lot of work dude, but maybe, just maybe, the procedure for the himalaya is the same with the BA, problem is, the BA has such a small extended, unless there is way to save my sms on my phone now, I don't even want to dare to downgrade at the moment (have alot of important messages), oh well, good luck then!
8)
Thanx.,
Think that this is the common way, the already used "made" screens for hima 1.60 and already tried it again, if you are reffering to /windows directory, it is not working for me.
What rests, anybody??
Still looking,
But anybody able to find a .nb file on his system?
I searched, but was not able to find something with splash or .nb on my system,Even not after i installed a screen,.
Where the hack supposes this to be stored, or whats the possible extention for it, or can we patch something with the bootloader to fix it? buzz? mamaich? anybody?
I think we are going to have a problem with this build of WM5 as far as the splash screen is concerned - looking through the boot code it seems as though the boot screen is generated programatically reather than from a bitmap in ANY memory area (Entirely generated in the CE ROM code area rather than referring to ext rom area as there isn't one!)!
There is a lot of test code in the bootstrap area from HTC and references to other HTC devices!?! - This is definitely a work in progress rather than any kind of complete WM5 build....
Without re-writing the bootstrap code I do not think we will be seeing nice splash screens on this version of WM5 .... Lets hope HTC are still tinkering with it .... I will post the decoded nk.nbf (nk.nba) file here if anyone is brave enough to hex edit it or try to re-write the bootstrap code (then again if you can do that I'm sure you are able to do a simple decode of the rom as well)

confirmed...rom on clubimate site is new

i did install the new rom..it does say a new name before installation and shows imate k-jam visual..on installation my device became extremely fast like a rocket in space without garvity
i have done all sorts of changes on my external rom before as mentioned in most of the forums and did get to remove the antivirus software from my previous version..but overall i still did never get the speed as my other pocket pc devices..thought it was the operating system..
Post new rom installation i checked for my extended rom to see that there was no skype or the anti virus software there anymore...means they have understood that these two were creating the problem...WOW...i am toooo happy now with the speed...yes i did hard reset it once more by adding the certifcate cab file so that i dont keep getting the sertificate notification and added commander as default installation...
MY K-JAM ROCKS NOW...OFCOURSE WITHOUT SKYPE
SORRY DEVELOPERS...I WAS CONFUSED...I WAS WRONG..THE NEW ROM IS JUST THE SAME ROM WITH CHANGES ON THE EXTENDED ROM BRINGING SKYPE AND ANTIVIRUS OUT IN ADD REMOVE PROGRAMMES...WHAT A DISASTER...WELL WAITING FOR THE NEW ROM RELEASING IN JAN WITH PUSH MAIL ,A2DP PROFILE AND A FIX ON PROBABLY EVERYTHING....FOR NOW JUMPING TO GET THE O2 ATOM ON THE 7TH OF DECEMBER
the rom is the same and it does not alter the extended rom.
Quick question, and a dead giveaway - did you delete Skype from your ROM before you installed this new firmware upgrade?
I really customized my Extended ROM, with a splash screen and different CABs, and when I flashed with this firmware upgrade, my Extended ROM remained UNTOUCHED.
Hey BTT how did you change your splash screen? Oh, and i love your new raffle I am in budy cross your fingers for me. Ill do it tomorrow I have to charge my paypall account.
i did what u did
i did change my extended rom as per your (BTT)directions...i even got a new picture of my company there..i did try both skype versions(1.1(non xscale version)and 1.2) in the extended rom with the config.txt changed...i did too many more things there as it was fun but nothing great happened with skype as it never worked but the first time....i finally just thought of trying the shipped rom from clubimate to get back all the way it was before so that i could redo everything...to my surprise after a complete flashing of the device there is no antivirus and the skype in the new extended rom anymore and also the speed is toooooooo god damn fast...believe me but its true...try again...i did chk the download a couple of days back when u wrote of it being the same and i think they have put another one just recently with these 2 files deleted....the shipped rom size now is 55mb...
i am too happy with this setup now as i just added your certify cab file too the extended rom and rebooted...its running at the best speed i have ever witnessed on a pocket pc...
What he meant was that unlike the magician and other previouse htc devices when you flash a new rom it doesnt change your extended rom so if you deleated any of the software from the extended rom it will still be gone. it wont reload the extended rom just the rom
That is exactly what I meant.
At last, do you think that upgrading helps to speed up the device?
consider that i have deleted from extended rom the antivirus.
Thanks
The very nature of assessing this is flawed due to the subjective component of the results. Having done this myself it is my opinion that this rom update is the equivalent of a hard reset. As the clubimate website indicates, the rom is a copy of the rom that shipped with the device.
...as I tought!
Thanks for the confirmation.
Bye
I did it and have had more problems since, dont do it....
if u say you had a problem by loading the clubimate rom means there is some change..though i am not a developer here like some of you guys on this forum but for sure there is a lot of change...also need clarification that if u say the new rom does not flush extended rom then how do i get the setup file back there(old extended rom had no setup file but the config.txt file)...i seriously have started feeling like doing this process again...but no i am way too happy now so i will stick with all my settings..
if you deleated your extended ro m or anything in it and didnt save it, then its gone forever... unless you find someone else who saved it and will give it to you. the settup file is on the ftp site here in the universal folder.
sorry chief...what I meant by saying what I said above is that I had deleted the setup file as I was using some other auto file with combinattion of modified config.txt.and yes it also had the skype file as default in it...and loads of other things like ring tones and alarms etc...(before making changes to the extended rom...I had backed up everythin on my computer so I am not bothered of the setup file
But after the rom upgrade what I saw is everything changed on the extended rom with the setup file back there...
just for my own sattisfaction now I am doing this all over again...

Orange HomeScreen

Ok well no one seems to be replying to my question about dumping my orange rom so lets try this instead.
How would i go about saving my orange homescreen so i can put it back once i have upgraded my m700 to the dopod rom.
Or, am i being stupid coz im sort of thinking that maybe the orange customization that runs on first setup is in the ext rom which will stay behind on the upgrade and i will therefore get all my orange stuff still
????? dont really know
Please help i really wanna upgrade my rom but i keep backing out until i can get these things sorted.
thanks all.

In the extROM of GPS enabled ROM, I can see this file : PT_WA_Abaxia.CAB which is related to this Orange customization. But I think that some parts of this Today plug'in are embedded with the OS itself.

On my Dopod rom I'm using the orange customisation from the Hermes ,the cab is HERMES_RO_BUILD_93_CLOCK.CAB,and it's working quite well except for the speed dial.
I think that the abaxia cab our friend mentions in the previous post should do the job.

How big is this file ?
mine is around 100KB I think (I'm at work now, can't check how big it is exactly)
Hi everyone.
in my ext rom on my trinity i have the file PT_WA_Abaxia. I order to test whether my ext rom had the correct stuff i hard reset my hermes and installed my trininty ext rom but this didnt seem to install the homescreen. Saying that though it wouldnt let me run the autorun so i had to install the cabs individually.
The hermes homescreen is older than the trinity one. I have never been a big fan of the orange homescreen but the trinity one is quite nice. You can add vip contacts which show up straight in the homescreen rather than having to use the speeddial thing, the background pic changes depending on whether the phone is on silent, vidrate or ring. All in all a but nicer than the hermes one.
more testing
right on my hermes which was factory settings including all orange customization i tried installing the cab PT_WA_Abaxia. didnt seem to do a huge amount.
I then renamed the old DIL_APP folder and copied this folder from my trinity.
I also copied the DIL_PLUGIN.dll from the windows folder on my trinity onto my hermes. Then i soft reset and my trinity homescreen is now on my hermes and all works fine.
So now i need to know how to get my trinity homescreen onto my trinity without the original orange customization.
When i was playing with my hermes last night i tried not installing the orange customization as this then seemed to allow phonepad to work. I then tried the same steps as i did above and i could get the homescreen to show up in the list. Therefore i can only assume that i would need to run the hermes cab to install the original orange screen and then rename it and stuff like i did above.
So in summary, i would need to save the hermes homescreen cab, and the dil folder and the dll file of my trinity. Flash my trinity with the dopod rom. Install the hermes homescreen using the cab. Rename the folder and copy the trinity one across and copy the dll file into the windows folder and all should be done.
Anyone got a better way, while i go off and test my theory.

You can find the cab (304kb) in the Hermes FTP extended rom section and in the Orange_M31_00_14.123.1.614_extrom

thanks for that, i saved it off the hermes. getting good at this unhiding my ext rom malarky.
anyway. i tested my plan and it worked on my hermes.
I hard reset
didnt do orange ext
installed the cab file HERMES_UK_BUILD_93_CLOCK
renamed the dil folder and copied the trinity one in
copied the dll into the windows folder
and hey presto
porbably a bit of a long winded way but it worked.
Hi,
How are you sure Orange wont know yourve flashed the rom?
Also how do you prevent the orange customization after hard reset on the trinity?
Thanks
Warny
well this is the problem. If orange check then they will know we have flashed the rom. That is why i want to be able to re flash back to the orange rom if i need to.
Easiest way to stop the customization on any device is to soft reset just before it starts, when windows loads up the first time on it you will see a little window saying customization will start in 3 sec or something. Just soft reset then and the customization will not run.
So far though i havent found any real reason not to run it on the trinity though. If i dont run it on my hermes at least i can get phonepad to work but no such luck on the trinity.
just to clarify, this post
----------------------------------------------------
I hard reset

was testing that if we flashed to the dopod rom which has phonepad built in, this is how we could get our orange home screen back.
The second line about not doing the orange ext was really just proof of concept that the process would work even if we didnt have the ext rom installed.
I dont know whether we will loose the orange ext rom when we update to the dopod rom but this was proving that even if we do we can still get all the orange customization back again.

OK I was hoping it would allow phonepad. So if you flash back the original rom is there any way they can tell? How close are you to doing this on your trinity? Thanks, Warny
well if we could flash back to original then they would not be able to tell. The problem is is that there is not a dumped version of the original orange rom. Therefore if we flash to the dopod rom we have no way of going back to the orange rom unless someone dumps it for us.
Realisticly there is no reason not to flash the dopod rom because we shouldnt loose anything but we gain phonepad. I do worry a bit about the fact that i cant go back again.
if you wanted to send the phone back though then orange would see that the bootscreen had changed after you have flashed to the dopod and might not be too impressed, saying that. If we flash to the dopod and we get phonepad and all our orange stuff then why would we want to send the phone back.
Oh decisions decisions

Hi,
OK i see. It seems from your post about your hermes that it might be possible to make the phone *look* like it has the original rom? (sorry Im half asleep today).
Are you considering trying the process out on the trinity then? (ill wait for you if so lol)
Also it voids the warranty so if it broke it would be nice to reflash to orignal rom so they cant avoid fixing it dont you think?

Yeah thats what i mean.
I am very tempted i just keep bottling it.
You are right also about the warranty
If there was an orange rom available i would do it without a thought.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238945
good thinking Warny, right i tried it and it appeared to work. I created a 128mb image. The big question is. Has it worked. We need someone to test my image. Or at least tell me how i can check it has worked and how er can create a rom from it.
Oh crap, just realised. Wrong phone. im using my hermes. god damn it.
Well it worked on that. I will try it on my Trinity but i need to go and get a mini sd card now.
Anyway still need the answers to above bits for when i make the trinity image
getting a bit rommy in here

lets take this rom dumping discussion over into my other thread, might have more chance of getting answered . I have copied our last coments over there.

Perhaps you could get someone to install the customizaton from your trinity on their trinity+dopod. Then see if there is any noticable difference?

That's it... I'm going back to stock Tmobile ROM

After countless hours of trying to get a stable version of Touch-IT Lite for the Wing on my Wing, I have finally called it quits and have gone back to the T-Mobile stock ROM.
I flashed to Touch-IT Lite for the Wing and for some unknown reason, it combined itself with the stock T-Mobile ROM! I still had the T-Mobile splash screen and all the default programs that the ROM comes with were also installed on the today screen.
I followed all of THESE directions exactly, so I don't know why I end up with the inbred child of Touch-IT Lite and T-Mobiles ROM on my device. Until I can figure out what to do, I'm staying stock.
Thanks for all the hard work Itje, I still tried!
i don't know if you tried to hard spl your device first but i'm pretty sure you must with itje's roms. i would suggest trying one of the open touch roms or icp fans roms. those are a little easier to get flashed to your phone and are excellent roms for sure. no hard spl needed
I have not tried his latest touch it roms. May be he didnt include an empty ext rom. So, the possibility is: all the programs+settings there in the ext rom are loaded in the main memory after hard reset
That rom must not have Primary Splash screens. When you decompile a rom you get 3 files: windows.nb ... PrimarySplash.nb ... Radio.nb.
Perhaps it only Flashes the windows.nbh so you will keep whatever splash screens you had on the phone -- in your case the Stock T-Mobile Spashes.
You can make you own splash screen and flash it and it will only change The first splash screen. Then you overwrite the welcomehead.96.png and change the second screen to whatever you like.
Its also possible to flash Just the radio.
As far as I know a rom will not integrate itself with another one. When you flash one it overwrites the previous one.
Personally I cannot use any of the Touch IT roms as they don't include Internet Sharing and any rom that does not have it is of no use to me. Open Touch and ICP-Touch roms are excellent!

I did not know that. I will have to try one. Thanks !!!
You have tried one old ROM when there are several newer ROMs to choose from. Try one of those first.
Right now I'm using Open Touch Biggy 4.0. Its pretty nice. Only problem I have is with the voice speed dial comes up all the time when I'm streaming internet radio. I had the problem with 2.7 also. Not a big fan of quick menu but you can turn it off by taking out of Startup.
I've always wanted to try a Touch IT rom but everyone I've ever tried didn't have Internet Sharing. I see they do now so I will try one.
Full Circle I'm done testing for now.
Okay after having Flashed just about every rom there is on here for the T-Mobile Wing, I have settled on one. Its fun to test -- there really are alot of good roms on here. However, from Stock to the new 6.1 build, I must say that Open Touch 3.0 zcink lite/micro is absolutely the best rom for the T-Mobile Wing for what I need.
I took it apart and used only the Windows.nb actually raising it to 6 mb pagepool to give it a little more stability. Remade it into .nbh and Flashed it, keeping my custom PrimarySplash and the newest radio.
Its totally awesome.
I took out the PBar from accessories and put the newest 1.5 into Windows/Startup. Nice. I installed the newest Battery Status over the one in there -- awesome.
Took out and deactivated all the sliding sounds in the registry -- very nice. !
So, for what its worth -- its still the absolute best rom out there.
I have Hard-SPL'ed my device, the SPL is 4.70 yang. When I flashed to CanonYang, it worked perfectly. The only affliation to T-Mobile my phone had was the branding on the case. I'm trying to flash an OS.nb ROM, not an NBH (which is definitely easier, IMHO).

It was the newest ROM for the Wing that I could find. Everything else is for the Herald. I know David made a keyboard fix, but I love using ALT + Left Right arrow for IE... it's become habitual
Seriously though, it's still a released ROM... there's no reason why it shouldn't work. I downloaded the following ROMs:
TouchIT Lite for the Wing
TouchIT v2.3B
TouchIT Black
Suggestions are welcome. Anything would be better than the stock T-Mobile ROM, but right now, it's the only one that works.
I have tried all the Roms and went back to stock t-mobile Rom. Most of the Roms have all the useless stock items removed and replace with third party apps that I don't need and still have the same free space and WM6.1 needs more work. I think the cooks are doing a great job I just have not found one that fits my needs. Wish I Had time to learn how to cook so I could build a ROM with office 6.1 and ms voice command and not much else for maximum space.

different method of flashing custom rom's

hey guys i have been wanting to hspl my device for a while (see signature(pure). but i have seen that it actually working is very tricky... doesnt always work...
a few weeks ago i talked with a developer about this and he said if you could build your own rom that matches your spl and device perfectly than you dont neeed to modify your device's spl....
perfect for me only looking to flash once... to a 6.5.3...
i had no idea how i should go about doing this until i found this project...
http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=1915902
using a program called yang...
could i extract only the rom part out of acustom rom and not the spl and fuse it with the official htc original ship rom so i do not have to hspl it????
if i have confused anyone i am sorry or am completely off ... again sorry
however if you have even the slightest of an idea of what im trying to do could you please help me .. and possibly anyone else who might need help
ps. i have flashed many roms on other device for my self and others... always stupidly easy and problem free... like lg incite (took me 10minutes to learn how to flash and to do it and boot up) that thing is a tank ... almost impossible to brick... but it always seems like we run into issues with htc devices and their spl's.... ugh
Check your link as it is invalid.
What you are saying makes sense and could possibly work.
You would just have to find your stock ROM, find a kitchen to decompile it, change some external packages and see if it flashes.
Keep an unaltered copy of your stock ROM in case you need to flash back to it.
