Greasy Screen - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

my screen seems to be so greasy,, i've got a lint free cloth but this doesnt seem to clear it up
is there any thing i can do?

Use one of those alcohol wipes. Gentle cleans then dry with a tissue...

I find blowing on the screen to produce a fine mist, then wiping it with one of those microfibre cloths does the trick every time. 8)

How clean is your phone?

What do you guys use to clean the finger grease off your phones? It seems like a bit of a magnet when it comes to grease
Apart from that, I LOVE it
Yeah, it is a grease magnet but hanging out with a little rag in the same pocket you carry your diamond solves it.

Luck
hmm thanks, I have a cloth.. But I never seem to get the screen back as it was before I touched it..
Luckily I managed to get the screen protector on w/o any bubbles or anything!!
I breath on mine before wiping it, and now I have learned to eat my chips with a fork!
LOL fair point, perhaps your right.. Maybe I should just wash more often
I use a micro fiber cloth - it brings it back to new in general. When really dirty I use my water based cleaning agent for flat screen TVs. That surely works.

Nexus Maintenance and Cleaning

What methods or materials do you use to keep your nexus clean? I've had mine for 4 or 5 months now and it not that dirty, Im just curious as to how and what to use to clean it. For the trackball, I have herd to take a cotton swap and dip it in rubbing alcohol. Then to gently rub the trackball and dry it with a lint free screen cloth. As for the device, I know their are manufactured cleaning liquids specifically for devices that supposedly clean the screen and phone from finger prints and smudges. So out of curiosity, what do you do/use to keep your Nexus One clean?
I will usually just take a regular towel (not microfiber) slightly dampened and wipe down the phone and battery compartment, as well as the battery itself and inside of the battery cover. Then, with the power still off, roll the trackball around the dampened surface for a minute or two.
I had not done the trackball in a few months, and it had been very resistant to rolling under my thumb, so I did the alcohol thing with a towel - again, not microfiber, and again, just slightly dampened with alcohol. Rolled it around for about 5 minutes, then followed the same procedure with a water dampened towel for another 10 minutes or so. My trackball is slightly lighter in color than it was, but it definitely rolls a LOT smoother. Well worth the time I spent. I am going to try the trackball cleaning method again in a few days to see if I can get it to roll again like it was new...
Oh - for regular cleaning of finger smudges - I fog up the screen with my breath and wipe on my pant leg. Works every time...
Damp cloth, wet wipes, pretty much anything i have to hand
I only use water, that's all you need to yet some towels or something. Don't use anything other than water.
Good tips.

Interesting, so water alone is enough to clean the phone xD. But what about the trackball? Does it turn to the normal white color when cleaning with water?
I went ahead with a micro fiber cloth and alcohol. I must say. I do not recommend this. Now my trackball is much darker.
I wish I washed it with water. I was no nervious after it was dark that I tried water, saliva, dry cloths to try to turn it bright again.

Well yeah, anything else is a risk in my mind. Maybe if you could take the track ball out of the phone you could try something else. But look at the post above!
i use a very mild water + soap solution. probably 2% hand soap + 98% filtered water (approx). Point is, very very mild solution. I put it in a small spray bottle, shook it up to get it well mixed, then waited for the bubbles to go away (takes a couple hours). I then spray the solution on a microfiber cloth, only one or two squirts on fine mist, and gently wipe everything down, immediately using another microfiber cloth to dry the phone.
I've used those alcohol based screen wipes with success.

[Q] How do I clean a black One's back??

So I got a black HTC One and barely 15 minutes after using it, it already had fingerprints. But, that's not the problem... The problem is, no matter what kind of cloth I use (the one that came with InvisibleShield, the ones that came with all my old phone's screen protectors, the ones my old cases included, etc...) there's just NO way to clean this b*tch!!! I even thought they were scratches, but that's just impossible, this is the first day of usage it's had and I barely handeled it for a few minutes before putting it in a case... Anyways, those of u using a black htc one or that have had similar issues before, what would u recommend??? Thanks in advanced!!
Try rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth.
Hmm, I don't have alcohol right now but I'll give it a go tomorrow cause where I'll be I'll be able to try it. Have u tried it?
I have a silver One, but rubbing alcohol has always taken the little marks and fingerprints off of other metals with black finishes. It's safe for electronics too. Apply it to a small part of the cloth, work the cloth until it's damp and carefully wipe. Don't slosh the liquid on the phone or get it in the ports..

Hmm, will do! Thanks for ur tip, I'll let ya know tomorrow if it worked out :good:
One more thing... It can affect some plastics and leave a powdery residue so keep it away from the sides and antenna lines. I doubt it would affect the plastic phone, but I'd hate to be the guinea pig.
I've heard others have had success using a slightly damp Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. You may want to try that first.
If a damp cloth or microfiber doesn't cut it for you a sand paper delivers a clean slate!!!
LOL

Rubbing alcohol is safe with polycarbonate plastic.

+1 at one point I noticed I accidentally rubbed some on the top antenna strip, I checked my signal and it was still full... Out of curiosity I rubbed the alcohol damped cloth through the whole top antenna strip and nothing happened, then I just cleaned the whole back (except the camera and flash of course) and it's all good still

Cleaning your Moto X

So, I'm an automotive Technician and have a White Verizon Moto X. As you could imagine, I get random oil residue and grim on my hands all the time which makes it's way to my beautiful X. Unfortunately, I've found it to be quite difficult to get it off my X. It kinda stains it. I've tried a towel dampened with Windex to no avail. I'm sort of scared to try anything stronger. Has anyone found a good cleaner or concoction that cleans it well without damaging it?
I'd try a good spray polish. If you're around a Honda motorcycle dealer, pick up a can of Honda polish or the equivalent. I use it for everything and it degreases as well without damaging paint/plastic etc. I won't hurt the screen either.
An automotive technician probably shouldn't have a white phone and expect to keep it white. The design of the back of the phone is such it is going to be very hard to keep clean if grease or oils get on it.
Isopropyl alcohol is pretty good for most plastics, and most surfaces in general. Note that I haven't tried it on my Moto X, but it's my go-to cleaner on most items where I don't want to clean without leaving any residue behind. Certainly better than Windex, which has a huge amount of blue dye in it (unless you're using one of the clear versions), and ammonia reacts with some plastics moreso than isopropanol.
Rubbing Alcohol and Microfiber towel.
Yeah, maybe white wasn't the best choice to keep it clean but I got it for free with a deal and didn't want the typical black phone. I'll try rubbing alcohol when I get home.

I would like to add my 2 cents. Use what works for the body of the phone....but do not clean the glass with anything other than a cloth...it has a oleophobic coating that will be removed if you clean it with alcohol or other cleaner.

I wipe mine down with alcohol pads and a microfiber cloth every night.

Hello fellow auto tech, I'd suggest a full body cover. Honestly the otterbox defender for the moto x is AMAZING and is well, perfect in my opinion. I don't get any drip through and it'd be quite difficult to actually damage it with my/our profession unless I drop it in an oil drip pan. However, get yourself a bottle of goo-gone and spray it on a towel, then coat the device in a SMALL film/layer of it and let sit for a minute or so, then get a slightly damp paper towel and wipe it down, followed up with a good drying towel to capture all the moisture. Maybe even wrap it up in a drying towel/microfiber towel and let it sit in it so it's all absorbed.
I'd say alcohol and microfiber cloth. Noticed screen is little harder to keep clean on Moto X.
Also noticed screen doesn't seem to be very scratch resistant.
Have some fine scratches on it, either from pocket use or from cleaning.

Earpiece speaker grill cleaning

I got some toothpaste stuck in the earpiece grill by trying to clean scratches near it. The paste's dry for sure, tried using a toothbrush, a needle, 3M tape, damp cloth. The sound is still good, but the looks bother me. All of the ideas are appreciated. Thank you.

I'd try a combination of brushing with a toothbrush and canned air. Don't blow the air straight into the earpiece though, keep it at an angle.
I'm tempted to say you 'should' be able to use a little rubbing alcohol, like the 91% kind. Do it with phone off and wait for it to totally dry before turning phone back on.
Alcohol bath is used on internal circuits to dry them when they have been exposed to water (before corrosion could set in) - so that's why I'm guessing a SMALL amount should be okay for your situation.
Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol
DON'T use any kind of alcohol on your screen, because it will ruin your oleophobic coating!
If feel comfortable with opening back cover, just remove mainboard, earpiece AND the little piece of clothing witch covers the space between grill and earpiece itself.. You will see a lot of dust stucked there. Clean with toothbrush and alcohol FREE liquid follow reverse procedure.
