Needed my BlueAngel Screen repaired after sitting on it! - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Two weeks ago I sat on my XDAIIs and managed to break the screen. This was while it was in it's Aluminium case!
I searched around for someone in the UK to fix it as O2 said it was beyond repair. I was just about to give up and get an upgrade from O2 when I found a company in Kent called Apex Laptops (http://www.apexlaptops.co.uk). I've just got the phone back from them after one week and I am pleased to report that they have done an excellent job. The repair was £165 (ouch).
I thouroughly reccommend these Guys.

Spare Parts for XDA2i

Hi Ive been watching these forums for a few weeks now, and now its time for my first post. Ive had an xda2i for six months now, but unfortunately ive broke the screen. I know how to replace this but am unable to find anywhere that sells spare parts for this model, does anybody know of a supplier. Before you tell me to send off for repair, ive already been quoted £165 to repair it and i dont think this is good for me as i only paid £99 for the xda2i new and i could get the exec new for £150. Please help if you know where i can get this part. Many thanks

Evening, on eBay you can get the screen for £77 shipped from Taiwan, not sure if its simple to replace, do not know if soldering is required. I have opened Xda 2 to replace housing before so not hard to get to
Heres is an eBay search link:

Where can you get an exec for £150 new?
Exec for 150?
From tiscali mobiles on an o2 contract, i ordered last week and im still waiting, although since i ordered the price has gone up slightly. It was cheaper for me to do this than getting my xda2i repaired. I still have six months to run on my current contract, but ive give that sim card to my misses instead of her PAYG sim. I am checking my order daily, but still no news although they say next delivery date should be 10 October. Fingers Crossed

Thanks for the link, i may just buy one.
I dismantled my xda2i last night to see if the screen from my ipaq would fit, unfortunately the ribbon connection (if thats what its called) wouldnt line up, so put the xda2i back together with the broken screen.
So i dont see a problem or any soldering required to fit the new screen if i buy one, unless anyone knows differently. If anyone has experience in this department then i would appreciate you knoledge. Thanks
very cool...ive got the same problem and if it can be fixed with approx 100 pound i wouldnt mind payin it...for now i got a 3100 to use off ebay for 20 pounds...anyways let me know if youve ordered one
I have got a spare screen for my IIi just incase and there is no soldering involved.
Daz.
Where did you get your spare screen from? How much did it cost? and am i right in believeing that it is just a case of dismanteling the unit poping in the new screen and reasembling?
As i said before i dismantled and reasembled last night and the unit fired up no probs?
Thanks
I bought the whole phone for £100 for spares.
Yes afaik you just dismantel, put the new screen into place and attach the ribbon cable(it actually snaps into place) then reassemble.
Daz.
wicked...you made me one happy man
ordered one but just as i was tryin to open it...theres these weird screws...can someone tell me what are they called and where i could buy a screwdriver for that kind of screw plz?
cheers
Hi,
They are call TORQ screws and you will need a TORQ 6 Screwdriver to undo them they are available everywhere even on ebay, do you know how to take the camera cover (black bit) off?
I downloaded the service manual for the XDA2i from a link that someone put on this forum, that will show you how to dismantel and reassemble your PDA. Im sorry i dont know where this link is but someone else might be able to add it to this thread.
Ive orderd my screen and am just waiting for delivery.

Bad connecter and repairing / O2 customer service
Hi all, how are you ?
I am fine but not my XDA IIi.
I purchased it from UK but I live in Austraia now.
I've been using the device only for 2 months, but now it has a problem, which is "can charge but cannot sync" through original cradle and charger.
And it cannot be even charged by using non-original (third party) USB charger or retractable sync cable.
I just have been using it with normal care, did not drop or broke or anything..
I found that USB connecter looks one of the weak point of the device itself and to fix it , cost almost all the amount of purchasing new device through this forum.
I really think that this problem should be covered by warranty but just because my device came from UK so that service centre here in Australia told me as long as O2 UK allow me to use warranty here, then local service agent can fix it with the warranty.
So after a long chasing , at last I contacted UK service center, repair center , and customer service. ( i called there from Australia as they don't have any email contact!)
As I expected, I could not expect much support from them.
They told me to send it to my friend in UK and ask him/her to bring it to O2 shop in UK. But still not sure to be covered with warranty......
I wish I could have good skill of soldering or fixing up electronical skills.... then I can open it up and fix it as there are some instructions to open up XDAIIi....
Anyway, has anyone have same problem and succeeded to fix up XDA IIi connecter ??? (Not XDA II as I found some quote in this whole forum... )
is anyone able to suggest the best way for me?
Thank you for reading long comment and listening my sad mumbling.
Regards
Tama

A friend of mine attempted to repair the USB/Cradle connector on his XDA IIi and completely killed it. I know this isn't what you want to hear but please be very careful if you take this job on yourself or you could render it useless.
Daz.
i think the cheapest way to get it fixed is to send it to imate repair center in dubai...O2 shop will just send it to their repair center in uk and will charge you £17 just to send it there...it be cheaper jus to contact the repair center yourself it be cheaper and faster
thanks for the comments
Dear Cadburys Man,thanks, oh sounds really Risky
and
Dear m4mad,
Dubai,,, oh ,, not familiar at all but I will try to find O2shop according to your advice,
thanks for your comments!

HTC repair Experience

Just wanted to share with everyone my experience I just had with HTC regarding the repair of my beloved Kaiser.
About 4 weeks ago my phone tri-color screened on my me. After several weeks of posting to this forum trying to get a fix I finally called for an RMA#.
Sent the phone off, got a call 3 days later saying they were running it through is diagnostics and would report back to me. 3 days later they called me and said it was being repaired and I owed them $20. Paid them and then 4 days later received a call saying my phone was repaired and it was being shipped out and the guy gave me my tracking number.
So the phone shows up and it has a description of what repairs were done. The replaced the mainboard as well as the usb connector. Loaded on WM 6.1 for me and also replaced the entire key pad on the front of the phone. Keep in mind they only thing I think was wrong with the phone to begin with was I screwed up loading the newer SPL so I could flash the phone.
Not sure if everyone has had such a good experience with HTC but this is the reason I will keep buying the phones as they come out. I honestly thought they were going to charge me $150 plus to do this.
So I will take back my 3G iPhone I got and start using my favorite phone of all time.
Now if HTC will make a phone with a larger screen the world will nearly be a perfect place!!!
Happy flashing,
heat
I think I need them to... sounds like the same problem I have. I'll call HTC today so the process can be started to repair my phone... In the Netherlands I heard less positive reactions to HTC's Service.
yah i sent back a tilt with a broken lcd and red light of death and they didnt charge me a dime..they said there was pressure damage to lcd and the mainboard needed to be replaced and also housing because they stated that they need to break the housing to replace the lcd (which is crap) so they quoted me like 300 or something (i dont remember it was 6 months ago) and i told them just to send it back to me with nothing done to it and i dont hear back from them and a week later they call me saying theyre shipping it back and everything has been replaced and i didnt even get the $29 diagnostics fee so that was awesome and to think i almost sent it in to att through exchange by mail warranty program
I sent my kaiser to their repair service for unresponsive keys on the keyboard.
It came back about 10 days later with a new keyboard, new back cover (the rubber external gsp cover was a bit loose) and a new lcd screen (don't know why).
It was warranty, so I didn't have to pay anything.
Satisfied customer over here
I have a Kaiser with the 3G/HSDPA problem in Spain, at this moment is at the Service centre for three times, each time along one month and return with the same problem. I am very unhappy

Anyone ever had a phone repaired by HTC?

Anyone here ever had a phone repaired by HTC, particularly the UK, if so how quick are they usually?
Have to send my Diamond in for repair to due a faulty earpiece, has an annoying buzzing sound to it when listening to people at medium to high volume, it's very annoying.
HTC UK said it should be repaired and sent back within 5 working days, hope they keep their word
As I always sell my previous HTC phones when I upgrade I am now stuck on an old Sagem My X7, brick of a phone
Hi, I had problems with my HTC tytn and (before a phone call) I send it to Brigthpoint (official Partner). Brigthpoint sent it back within one week.
Google Brigthpoint !!
Hi, I had problems with my HTC tytn and (before a phone call) I send it to Brigthpoint/ Germany (official Partner). Brigthpoint sent it back within one week. Google Brigthpoint/ UK!!
I once had to send my HTC Prophet to them for a warranty repair (keys stopped working) and I must say the service was excellent - a very professional and quick (<5 days) service so I wouldn't have any concerns doing it again.
I seemed to recall I could track the status of the repair (at least as far as received, in progress, despatched etc) via their website too.
Mathew
[Edit: This was in the UK]
I had my TyTN repaired to fix the screen alignment issue, 5 working days was the turnaround time....was very impressed.
They were real easy to deal with over the phone and returned the device fixed free of charge.
Thanks for you replies, good to know that they are quick an reliable with their repairs.
Heres some Nostalgia for ya! When i had my SPV E200, the joystick stopped working and kept sticking. Again, this only took them about 5 days to get the phone, fix and send it back. Excellent service!
Looks like they have kept this level of service! Alot of companies these days get progressively worse, but its nice to know that HTC are still providing an acceptable turnaround.
Radeon123, let us know how things go regarding the repair
bought my diamond in TW on last day of business trip, back to Oz and its DOA, losing audio/ring endless vibrate etc issue that so many users are experiencing. had to sent it back to TW as HTC Au couldnt support cos phones not released yet and wouldnt be repaired under warranty anyway cos it aint a global warranty. They said 10days to fix, sent it off using DHL so 3 days for them to receive the phone, emailed them after 10 days, they told me they are still testing the issue, needed few more days, gave them 5 more days, they said they think they fixed the problem and will send back soon, got it back within days of that email, guess what phones still giving me the same fault! i aint sending it back again cos it will end up costing me more than half the price of the phone, gonna hang out to see if HTC Au will repair it at a fee.. Very very dissapointed i didnt get a new replacement to begin with since it was DOA

CRC37 - Issues after repair

Hey there,
I'm new to the XDA-Devs forum and I've been impressed with the amount of information on here (it helped me with unlocking a HTC Nike)
I'm having issues with my "repaired" T-Mobile G1. After sending my phone for repair via Carphone warehouse because of it switching itself off numerous times a day, I've got it back "fixed" with the CRC37 Build. I've noticed that my g-sensor now doesn't work. Took it back for repair again, and it's come back again with the G-sensor not working.
Do you think this is a build issue or yet another hardware fault with the phone.
Any help would be great.
MisterzaK
Probably a problem with the repair tech not looking at the paperwork, try sending it one more time but this time tape a note to it that say G-SENSOR NOT WORKING! then slip another note between the keyboard and screen and another in the battery cover. See if they get the point this time.
Think I might just try that!
Thanks for the reply.

What to do with my Diamond (O2 Ignito)?

I need some help please, I have cracked the digitizer on my diamond (O2 ignito), it is still working for now but I'm not sure what to do next.
I could replace it with a new lcd+digitizer ready assembled in a couple of hours for about £38, I have replaced many phone screens before, just never a touch screen, it can't be that hard.
I have insurance for the phone, I could claim on this but this presents a number of other problems. O2 don't list the Ignito any more, if they send me a replacement handset (if they don't just fix it and send it back) what would they send me, the XDA guide (Iolite?) or Zest? neither of these look that as good as my diamond. Also I'd be without a phone for however long this takes. Also I'd probably have to put the phone back to stock (stock ROM and radio and remove hard-SPL) The cost is slightly less about £25 for the excess.
I've got just over 4 months left before an upgrade as well.
What do you think is the best option?
Thanks
i had same problem and was thinking of fixing myself for the cost of a new digitizer on ebay which is £10. For repairs o2 are always out of stock of the ignito it seems i was waiting 3-4weeks for replacement, in end i had to settle with a zest as i needed a phone. i would not recommend the zest at all as mine stopped working after a week and there is not much if not any support for it on here, they would not let me have a xda guide so you would be lucky if you did.
if you claimed off your insurance then they should have new stock of ignito's think a claim cost is £25
after sending my zest back after the week i managed to get my ignito back gd times.
anyway if your lucky they should fix and send your phone back after a few days depending on stock. and the postal strikes hope that helped
Thanks for that.
I think I will claim on the insurance as it sounds like quite a hassle changing the screen myself
It seems they don't carry stock of the diamond any more. They have offered me a xda guide (Iolite/touch cruise2) or some blackberry's (definate no for me).
Has anybody any experience of what the Iolite is like compared to the diamond?
The thing that sticks out the most is the lower resolution QVGA screen.
Thanks
I'm getting a touch pro now, so goodye to the diamond forum, hello raphael forum.
Glad to see Gen Y ROM for raphael
