Is there any programs that will help me clean up my MDA's system memory, and system storage? I am going through it manually right now but, some files I don't know about? What's the best way to approach this? I can't believe it is so full already? I have only 5 or so non-factory programs installed.
Try SKTools. I love it.

Hello all,
I was wondering, how do you all manage your phone...
For instance...
Do you install apps to you card or to memory?
Do you delete files such as unused sound files from your /windows dir to save space?
Anyone have other tips for how to better manage their phone in regards to how they install and configure it?
I know it sounds like a lame question, but I am curious?

My Aria's memory is running low. I have used App to SD card to move all movable apps there, but it wont let me move a lot of the original ones. Whats the easiest / best way to do this?

Search Removing bloatware in the aria forums and you'll find a whole thread on the process.

You can put TI Backup into "Chuck Norris" mode and you ***may*** be able to remove some of the system apps. If you are rooted and running custom ROM you can unzip the ROM on your PC, delete the stuff you don't want, then re-zip and re-flash. Voila, unwanted apps gone.
In both cases you need to know what you are doing. Certain apps cannot be removed, others are needed by some third-party stuff. Unless you brick your phone in the process it is pretty easy to experiment.
I've got everything backed up with the appmonster.
Will this be adequate prep for flashing a ROM?
Are the backup files stored on the external SD card?
Is it easy to retrieve your apps after flashing the ROM?
I gather only the internal SD and phone memory will be reformatted.
I'm I ready to go flashing?
Check the App Monster's description at AppBrain (and the program's settings of course, where did your phone saved the needed files)...
Did you saved the SMS and call log? And what about Titanium Backup? Have you ever tried it?
Did you download all the needed files before doing ROM change?
I would say that when you can answer these questions yourself, then maybe you are ready to flash roms. Do not rush in, read plenty, get familiar with the lingo, procedures, ways to salvage a bad flash etc etc....when you are comfortable then proceed. Read all the faqs, then when you need help people will be far more helpful.
Also make sure you have 3 button d/l mode.....and enjoy! It is addictive, fun and harmless! Welcome

10:10 point, you are right.
When somebody have no further questions, he is ready to flashing (I was in the same situation some month before).
Reading, reading, and do everything as it is written.

I tried Titanium Backup, but it says I gotta ROOT first. I was going to try to ROOT and ROM in one go with the Darky's ROM v10.1.
Monster saved all the apps, I have to study about whether the contacts and logs were backed up too.
I'm just a little confused about what exactly happens when you flash a ROM.
The way I understand it it's like reformatting and reinstalling the OS on a PC.
Where I'm confused is about the internal SD card. Does that get affected? I know the external SD doesn't experience anything.
One my complications is that I don't have a PC, and have to borrow one to get the flashing done.
I've been considering a netbook. But I want to run Unbutu and not windows!
I used to have a windows partition on my MacBook but I ran out of space for it. I hardly ever used it.
I was hoping getting the SGS would get me away from PC's and Mac's.
I guess a cheap netbook wont kill me; and sparing 30Gs for a windows partition now wont be such a bit deal with these nifty 320-500G hardrives out there now.
Maybe I should just have someone slap a fancy 500G drive with flash ram in the MacBook then problem solved.
Fark but I'm also getting old and lazy.
Maybe I'll just wait and study this all a bit more. The phone works pretty well with Froyo anyway. The only real issue is that it eats up the battery fairly fast.
Hello,
as I see there are some kernels and roms, but for me key question is how much internal memory can I gain after removing write protection (I couldn't find such information).
I know that it probably depends on how much I decide to delete, but I would be thankful if someone wrote:
- which applications take most of the space?
- what is "other" in memory management that takes almost 3GB?
Then I will know if rooting etc. is worth the trouble and warranty loss risk.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Chris
3 GB "Other" is the ROM of the phone, you basically have about 1 GB to use. You need a custom ROM to have more space, since in most of the custom ROMs the bloatware, the htc sence, htc keyboard etc are all deleted which frees up some space, but don't expect a lot.

Custom rom not help. Partition and data system has a fixed size. Deleting bloatware free up space on the system partition. Which is unusable.
Then its worse than I thought...

Wow, so it seems that in terms of free space rooting this phone gives you nothing. And that was my main motivation.
Is it possible to change partition size after freeing space? I mean some kind of gparted-thing.

Chris

Well, at least not something im willing to try, because the chances are to big that I brick my phone.
AFAIK, the partition table (partition size, place etc.) are stored in your hboot. Flashing a custom hboot is possible with S-OFF, but I don't know what I should edit in hboot to change the partition size., and I'm not really willing to try it.
factory reset does not help
Hi guys,
I made factory reset, but the "other" folder is still 2,88 GB out of 4 available after reboot. There are no pictures, videos, games or apps whatsoever, its fatory clean!!, and I don't know what this 2,88 GB data is?
I have a suspect on the /sys folder, which contains more than 500 thousands files! with folder like loop, mmcd...etc. see via ES file explorer. also not thumbnail found.
Any idea how to get rid of that data?
thanks.
ciao,
Rob.
Hi All,
I am in possession of an M7 and have been surprised by how much of the internal memory is taken up just by Android and Apps; 23.67 of 32.00 Gigs have already been used, and I have not taken a single photo with my phone, uploaded music to it, etc.!
When I look in Settings > Storage I notice that most storage is being used by the 'System & other' category, which is currently consuming 19.39 Gigs!!
I have performed a little research on this before posting, and have turned of the 'Recycle Bin' in ES Explorer, removed same, and deleted the .estrongs folder using TWRP.
I can't see how my Apps could possibly take up so much space.
Can anybody assist with increasing my storage space?
Kind Regards,
Davo
That it's not normal, make a factory reset or reflash your rom.
Not normal. There are some storage analyzer apps that help you determine what precisely is using space, I use this one: com.google.android.diskusage
And if you cannot manually clean out the stuff, factory reset or flashing a ROM should fix things.. If the partitions are fked up, I have no idea how to fix that.

Yes, you're right. RUU is ultimate fix, but it would be nice if we could easily resize partitions.
Like, I have a debloated ROM, thrown out 2 GB of crap. So, now I have a lot of free unused space in /system partition, but no easy way to utlize it. I could of courze install more apps as system-apps, but..
Anyway, yes, RUU = Fix.
