K-JAM ROM UPDATE...SOFT RESET TO AVOID EXT. ROM UPDATE - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

NEWBIE POST>>DON'T JUDGE ME
I've read in a few forums around different sites that many people simply soft reset their phone when the phone informs them that its going to begin the extended rom update (as apart of the ROM update that includes OS and radio)...
So my question is why are so many people on here saying that they want to update their rom but keep their EXT rom so they have GPRS, MMS and other settings kept consistent?
eg. I have a US T-Mobile MDA coming in a few days, I want the I-mate K-Jam rom on there but I want to keep T-Mobile's EXT. Rom with it's settings and what not, so I am simply going to update the rom and cut it off before it starts the extended rom, does anyone know of any problems that may occured, because according to what I've read there haven't been any.
Seems much more practical than installing the ENTIRE K-Jam Rom (OS, radio, extended) and then having to double back and re-install your original extended rom.... LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE'S TRIED IT!

This is a bad idea. First of all, if you pull the device from the cradle in the middle of the update, I can't guarentee that you'll be able to get it out of bootloader mode and back to working without some major effort. If you're a newbie, that may not be something you want to do. There's also no guarentee that pulling the device in the middle of the update won't turn it into a brick, either.
I know you want the K-JAM Extended ROM. I would just wait until an Extended ROM unlocker is released and then customize it the way you want. I've been doing this stuff for about 10 years, and without the right tools, you're taking a huge, unnecessary risk.
But that's just my 2 cents...

Well I didn't mean pull it off the cable, I just meant soft reset when it prompts 'beginning customization in 3..2...1..'
But thanks for your advice, I haven't done anything yet anyways, phone's still in the mail

You should try my custom T-Mobile USA 2.17 rom. Posted here in the forum.

you are still able to connect with your t-mobile gprs, mms even you ve updated to kjam's or other kinds of firmware, all you need to do is to get the setting from t-mobile's website.

T-Mobile ROM installation and a few questions.

after searching through Google and MoDaCo, I've come to the conclusion that the latest ROM for the Vario is 1.6.2.4 (WWE)
As far as I understand, there was supposed to be another update but it's been pushed to July.
This update is the AKU2 update (I dont know what it means)
Some said that installing the iMate K-Jam AKU2 onto the Vario will work, but will remove all T-Mobile apps and settings.
Is this true?
If so where can I get the apps and settings back as T-Mobile's website is a blank.
Now if all is well, where do I get this latest ROM?
Should I take any precautions?
What will I gain and lose system wise?
Finally, does anyone know where I can unlock the device.
Sorry for the truck load of questions.
Just want the best since I just got my vario and it seems pretty sluggish. A person from esato said that AKU2 would fix that.
What is the best ROM to install onto my T-Mobile (recommended)
(also, if the rom isn't like a regular executable, how would I install it?)
Kind regards!
Go to the Wizard forum and read the lokiwiz thread for unlocking - essential if you want to run different ROMs
A search on TMobile settings will bring up many posts but it's going to vary according to whether you use TZones or the unlimited internet access.
Apart from the internet access and, maybe, MMS I'm not sure what other TMobile stuff anyone would want.
I run the latest QTEK ROM and can recommend it for speed, stability etc etc and configuring MMS and Internet is no issue.
thank you very much for your prompt reply.
I did spot Loki and unlocked my phone, however I assume you mean CID Unlock am I correct?
What I was referring to when mentioning losing anything was any apps.
I am unsure if there is anything that T-Mobile Provides that I will need.
Is there any program that can back up the whole phone for free?
(that way I can back up settings and apps, upgrade the rom and then restore everything)
you recommended the Qtek rom because it's the latest, there were a few roms which said "Latest" but were not, just so that I do not make an error could you link me to the correct thread?
As I'm sure you understand, I'm worried that I might do something stupid and end up with a brand new brick.
edit:
I just purchased SPB Backup.
I'm hoping that'll be enough.
edit2:
I noticed in a thread below my thread that the latest Qtek rom causes some battery miscalculation and a drain for some. Is this still the case, is that the latest rom?
Can you link me to the appropriate rom?
Sadly it seems the battery meter is moved to the top.
Is it recommended that I wait for the T-Mobile Rom to be released?
What am I missing out on, besides better speed (since mine lags like nuts)
I'm sorry again for the questions. Perhaps my thread can be a sticky for beginners?
Kind regards, and thanks again.
Kei
edit3:
lol this is the first time this has happened (I recentley unlocked the phone and did a backup) but it just soft reset on it's own...
Is this common?
Wow, lot of information.
Latest QTEK ROM is the 186504-ruu_9100_2170702_21707102_20710_qtek_wwe_ship.exe
You need to CID unlock to install ROM's from other vendors.
There should not be any downside to the process though I'll qualify that when dealing with technology anything can happen. Read the lokiwiz thread in full and you'll see most of the good and occassional problem.
Not having ever used a TMo ROM I don't know what they bundle in there. However, I use TMo service with the QTEK ROM and have no issues - just had to cingure the GPRS for internet and the MMS settings.
No idea what the soft reset could be I'm afraid.
would you (or anybody)
be able to confirm battery problems after installing the latest Qtek rom?
(Or battery miscalculations)
I've downloaded a file called RUU_Prodigy_2170702_21707102_20710_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe
I'm assuming thats the right one.
Does anyone know how to get the battery icon at the bottom and the clock at the top AFTER installing the Qtek rom?
Although people say the rom is more stable (wont reset so much)
I still don't know what I'll be gaining. Of course if it'll double to speed then it'll make it much worth it, because the K-Jam is sllooooow.
well it's been a while but I just wanted to confirm that the battery is indeed inaccurate.
I haven't found a way to move the battery icon and clock around.
Is the rom I mentioned still the latest and best?
Can someone link me to the latest and/or best (EVEN if it is the same ROM)

A helping hand needed to upgrade my MDA Vario!

Hello guys!
I got my MDA Vario last week, and I am very much impressed with it!
I got the MDA Vario brand new without a contract and my intention is to use it with one of those O2 Genie PAYG SIM cards. So.... after much reading this excellent forum I figured out that I would need to unlock the SIMlock on the Vario. Got hold of the Lokiwiz utility, followed the advice on these forums, and tested it with the Orange SIM in my regular phone, and hey presto.... MY PY PHONE IS UNLOCKED!
Next step - to remove all T-Mobile customisations. Again, I had a simple bit of advice from one of you good folk - hard reset, then soft reset when the phone starts to install customisations and now all the pink girlie stuff has gone! Only reminant of T-Mobile left on the phone is the logo on the phone dial keypad.
My thoughts are now with upgrading the ROM. T-Mobile have been very slow with updating their ROM package -a new one is apparently due very soon. Now.... in preparation of installing a new ROM, Ive CID unlocked my phone. I would really like to know which ROM I should upgrade to - there are so many out there! As the phone has been CID & Sim Unlocked, does the phone remained unlocked irrespective of what ROM I install? Can I install a T-Mobile ROM after changing it to another?
As I intend to mostly use an O2 PAYG SIM in it, would it be better to use a new 02 update? If so, which one? Or do I go for another ROM? All very confusing! Finally, Ive heard that I cannot browse the net via GPRS on an 02 PAYG SIM. Is that true? Do I need to flash an ExtROM too?
I know Im asking a lot here and am being a bit of a pain in the backside, but I would really appreciate any and as much advice as possible as I realy dont want to end up with a dead phone! Many thanks in advance!
Hi, yes you could wait for the new rom and i am a believer in sticking with your manufacturer roms because many of the posts here seem to people experimenting with different roms and it all going wrong - lol.
But if you do upgrade proberly the commonest choice is the aku2 qtek rom that i use
download here ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wi...digy_2170702_21707102_20710_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe
and the o2 aku2rom not a bad idea too, but without the o2 extras.
Yes you could then upgrade to the t-mobile rom then but often you need to unlock again with lockiwiz 0.3a.
PAYG o2 will browse internet but msn etc.. does not work.
btw yes you are a pain in the arse but then most people here are!!
Cheers Mark! Nice to have some basic advice - very reassuring for a thicko newbie like me!
Well... I couldnt wait for the new T-Mobile ROM and went ahead with the upgrade with the Qtek upgrade you suggested.
Was a little tricky at first because the upgrade wouldnt happen (port failing to open) but I had a few programs running in the background on my desktop PC and shut them all down so that I had a `Clean` PC. The upgrade process was then as smooth as a babys bottom.
MDA Vario is running really well - well worth the upgrade IMO. Everything seems quicker and generally better. Only problem I have is with wifi - it seems to take ages to make a connection with my PC (ad-hoc peer to peer) whereas on the original T-Mob ROM it was very quick. Any ideas here?
I read that you say I would need Lokiwiz 0.3a to install the AKU2 T-Mob ROM when it is eventually released. I was under the impression that once the PDA was unlocked (lokiwiz 0.2b) I wouldnt need to unlock it again. Is it different with the very latest T-Mob ROM? Can I not revert (downgrade) to the original T-Mob and then upgrade to the new T-Mob ROM? Ive not heard of lokiwiz 0.3a being out yet - would it be as simple as unlocking with lokiwiz 0.2b?
Finally, how on earth do I get the latest 02 ROM? I need to enter my 02 mobile number and IMEI to download it. Do I need lokiwiz 0.3a to install that or any other current ROM?
Cheers for your friendly advice.
Al.
Hi, no problem - glad to help.
Lokiwiz 0.3a is out see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=50768
For some reason when upgrading (in think it renews cid/spl) to aku2 rom seems to lock again - i had to unlock my qtek with above tool.
Yes you can go back to original rom - but if does not work use farias method of unlocking and downgrading rom (post is in this forum)
Most of the roms are in the wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wizard_Upgrades
including the o2 roms, but i would refrain from too much chopping and changing because you can destory the bootloader and then has to go back to the manufacturer.
Many reported problems with the wifi setting up - i would read some of the threads in the wizard forum if i was you. First thing to try is tweak wifi on device to wlan g and it may work better.
see registry tweaks here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wizard_Upgrades
btw good to hang out in the wizard forum too - you will learn alot of tips from there.
Want to also say thanks from another newebie with T-Mobile MDA. Have unlocked phone and CID and flashed with 2.17 QTEK ROM and all is good.
Thanks !!!
if you want th get rid of the tmobile crap on the face...use a 2p coin and move it downwards...not accross
it takes the tmobile paint etc off without any marks..
Jesus sbouri that logo was killing me, brilliant tip, nice one mate!!!
hi
i just got my mda vario and manage to unlocked the phone with lokiwiz03. i know my phone is now sim unlocked, but how do i check if it is cid unlock as well?
i am eager to flash the rom with the qtek version but i have no idea how to do it.
i know i must have my phone cid unlock in order to install a different rom, so do i just download the latest qtek rom, connect my device to usb and activesync it, and then just run the RUU?
i am really noob here.
cheers.
Hi mate if i was you i would use MR CLEANS ROM i flashed with that and its excellent, tottaly clean with no tmobile crap and i didnt do anything with the cid so dont worry.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Wizard/ROMS/MrClean_RUU_WIZARD_224_AKU23_WWE.zip
Just download this and run follow instructions, real easy. Good luck mate.
thanks for the advice...i took a bold move and flash it with a qtek rom. works like a charm. before that i did cid unlock using lokiwiz02a, not lokiwiz03.
i will take a look at mr.clean rom at a later stage.
i notice that my imei number is different from the one in my box. does flashing the rom change it?
now my next task would be update to a better radio rom and check out the extension rom.
cheers.

Great tip, worked like a charm and left no marks.
Thanks.
Hi there, I'm about to flash my UK MDA Vario too.
I'm not sure to use the Mr clean one or the Qtek 2.17 version.
Before I do anything, which is better of the two?
Also, what settings to I need backed up? I have my txt msg service numbers, as well as voicemail. And all of my MMS & GPRS settings.
Am I to assume that all I have to do is input the settings into the device once it's been flashed?
Thanks

The mr clean rom is a more advanced rom and has no extras. The qtek official rom is probably a safer install because its an official rom and many good reports of success and users pleased with the outcome.
Yes when you have flashed just input all those settings again.
Plus you can backup your voice tag database between hard resets by copying the file CommandModel1.bin found under the windows folder to your pc or to the memory card. After rom upgrade copy it back to your windows folder and all your voice tags are back!
Create backup of windows\start menu - most programs that are on the storage card dont need a reinstall.
Create copy of pim.vol in the root directory of the device - contains contact and appt information. After flash change the new pim.vol to pim.vo and copy and paste old pim.vol (use total commander or gsfinder file explorers for this) and soft reset and you will have info back.
Create backup of windows\favorites - for all your internet favorites.
That will make restore a bit quicker than otherwise.
Cheers for the info. I was actually thinking of trying the Mr. Clean one first, is there anything missing from this one, or is it just less stable?
Mr clean is just a clean rom without any of the manufacturers addons. It will probably run very well - its the flashing process with it that may not be as safe as an original rom and may possibly destroy your bootloader etc.. so you have a brick phone. I would always go for the safest option and would not suggest chopping and changing roms. Read the many users stories where everything goes wrong and the forum needs to help them out.

True, I didn't think about that. Thanks again.
Ive been using Mr clean rom for 1 week now and its excellent from my experience. Its tottaly clean and runs so fast!
By clean i mean it has no customizations as you will find on official roms. It flashed just like any other rom too. Easy as pie. Just my info as people would like to know.
I've just upped to the QTEK ROM, and I've a couple of problems, nothing too serious though I don't think?
Firstly, when making my GRPS connection - I can't seem to find anywhere to input the WAP Proxy settings?
Edit, sorted this one now
Secondly, when settinp up my MMS - I can't select connect via Picture Message in the settings, it's not there?
I'm guessing this is some other connection I have to make up?
Any idea guys?

I cant find what you say under settings - what does it do?
Never mind ignore me, that'll teach me not to read T-Mobile's site correctly

What you need to know before upgrading the ROM?

Hi all.
I've just got my new Orange M700 on contract and have a few basic questions before upgrading to WM6:-
1. Before upgrading is it sensible to backup the existing ROM etc? Are there tools to do this?
2. After upgrading SPL, GSM and ROM and presumably installing the latest UK network wizard software from HTC will the existing SIM just carry on working as before without Orange being any the wiser as to my actions?
3. In the case of a warranty claim or if I just want to go back to factory default for some reason, what's the recommended process (if any) of reverting to the original ROM etc?
I've been reading hundreds of posts here but thought it best to double check before proceeding. Could be useful for other newbies to see the answers to these questions as well I guess.
Thanks
good questions.....
the network manager is a good idea- wonder if there is one for the Aussie market??? Anyone?
from what i have read do a Hard SPL flash first in case of any problems.
No-one has yet extracted the Orange ROM for reinstallation. It is not a simple process! If you don't want to do it yourself, then there's no point in taking backups etc prior to a ROM update, because you can't go back Never try and apply a restore after a ROM update- you risk screwing things up big time!
Orange SIM's will continue working fine, and Orange will be none the wiser about the upgrade.
If you need a warranty repair, you will either have to hope someone has extracted the Orange ROM and posted it for download, or trust to luck that Orange will accept it as it is. A number of people have reported that they have successfully had a flashed device replaced, as long as the fault wasn't due to the ROM update itself.
If you are in any doubt, DON'T DO IT ! The differences from the Orange release ROM in the UK, and the cooked WM6 ROM's are pretty minimal, apart from the cosmetics.
Good info. Many thanks. Time to get flashing.
I'm in the process of dumping and rebuilding an Orange UK M700 ROM at the moment .... so hopefully I'll be able to upload it soon.
the only caution I would add is that you will loose access to the Orangeworld website after flashing, until someone can work out where Orange hide the files that identify the phone and allow the full graphics version of the site. Depends if thats an issue really
just to point out you can't upgrade to official WM6 for Trinity yet- the ROMS are cooked- i.e taken from other handsets and modified to work with Trinity hardware.
I tried many many cooked WM6 ROMS for the Prophet. All had pros and cons, but were too problematic to live with (e.g. wifi and BT setting vanishing, not reliably charging over USB etc).
I'll be waiting for an official WM6 ROM for Trinity - well here's hoping.

Fingers crossed, good luck etc

Scared to post but I am stuck must take your wrath

Aloha everyone,
I have tried to not post for about 3 weeks but I just can't move forward. I have read and tried to follow everything on the site but I am just confused. I know this is a developers site and I am very intimiated to be castigated by you guys but...it's the internet so what the hell.
I have found numberous instruction threads pertaining to updating ROMS on the Wizard. It seems that up until recently there was only one way to do things but now there are many. As I try to answer questions I come into conflict over which way I shoudl be heading.
I currently have a working WIZ100 that boots with IPL 2.21.0001 SPL 2.21.0lip with GSM 2.25.11 and OS 2.25.11.1. I somehow got to this point, I think by following the instructions to get hardSPL on my device and booting on startup. I did not know if I next needed to find a ROM and if so then how to get that ROM activated on my device or what programs to do this with. I know that the threads spell it out but the threads pertain only to direct assumptions; the assumption that my head is not in my ass.
I wanted to attempt to put a new rom on here, for fun and to play around with something new. Perhaps increase reliability or to get WM6 going. I am stuck now though. Part of me wants to turn back and load the original ROM from the HTC site and the other part of me wants to try a new ROM as I already have this thing booting to the 0lip SPL.
Is anyone out there willing to help me either via this thread, personal message or IM?
Since you have already installed Hard SPL you should be safe to go ahead and pick virtually any ROM you choose on there. I don't have a lot of experience with Hard SPL yet, except for installing it on my kaiser, but the one thing I would guess that you should make sure that the ROM you want to flash doesn't have would be an IPL/SPL update included. As far as I know, I don't think any of the public ones that you find on here have them but make sure you read the chef of the ROM's entire post to make sure. And, if you magically happen to find my ROM somewhere, which you shouldn't since I only gave it to 2 people to try, don't flash it because mine does include an IPL/SPL update.
From my best understanding you have already loaded HardSPL and now are CID unlocked. If this is the case then I would recommend going forward and flashing a new rom to your device. Just go to the Wizard Mobile 6 thread and find one you like, and flash it.
Simple as that.
I appreciate your replies.
1) I am clarified like butter! What program do I download and use to flash the ROM to the Wiz, this has been a source of confusion for me.
2) If I download and install the HTC Cingular ROM from HTC, will that overwrite the HardSPL and return my phone to Factory Default, including the radio areas? In other words do I rid myself of 2.21.0lip?
Thanks for not beating my head in...very polite you devs are...
I like beating people's heads in, and you are far too polite, that I am actually having a very slight guilty twinge! Damn you. I have a G3 myself so I cannot help much, however, I found this sticky which may help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332320
I do know that once you choose your rom, you open the folder and run the item marked as ruu.
Now if you only had a G3, then I could fry you like the noob you are.
I suppose at some point, I should make a point of reading/learning about G4's. I know they are a far different animal from my G3.
That's the reason I said not to flash a ROM that contained an IPL/SPL upgrade since there is the possibility that it may overwrite Hard SPL, although I'm not positive of that, but better safe than sorry especially if it it's not an official ROM that carries the correct IPL/SPL format for a G4. If it doesn't contain the correct format for a G4 it could ruin your phone. If you flash an official ROM though and it overwrites it you can always just reinstall Hard SPL again and keep flashing. I hope this makes sense.
As for the files you need to flash a new ROM, they're usually included with the ROM. If they're not then just let me know and I'll upload them for you.
Good that you asked before damaging your (expensive) device...
Every Flash version comes with a RUU (Rom Update Utility) you just run that proggy and it does the rest.
To make it easier, look for a rom that states it's G4 safe (no IPL/SPL included), so you don't have to mess around with the inner files. If you want to, begin your tests with the TNT series, the latest build, stated in my sig is G4 safe, after that you'll be able to know the initial procedure.
Good Luck.
Thanks for the info.
Do I execute the ruu from Windows XP or from the SD card ont he device?
Why am I have a hard time searching for and finding TNT 5.2.1921 TouchFlo ROM?
The rom update utlity gives me an error when I try to update. Should I try to do all this from the sd card?
Well, I am plugging along. I rebooted after an error 300 came up on the rom utility. Any suggestions for me?
I found this thread, back in business, thanks for your help guys.
I guess my only unanswered question is...if I use the HTC ATT exe from htc.com will it kill the hardSPL and restore the computer back to normal?
If you have ROM on your desktop, Connect your phone to your computer via USB, open up Activesync, uncheck the check box in settings that allows USB connections. Make sure you have at least 50% battery, then put your phone into bootloader mode. (soft reset while holding down the camera button- keep holding the button for 5 sec.) a tri-color RGB screen should come up. This is boot loader mode. Then run the rom update utility program, and everything is automatic from there on. once it is done flashing the phone will restart itself.

Try it and find out. I'd kind of like to know the answer to that one too, although my phones a G3 and already CID unlocked anyway. You can always reinstall Hard SPL over again if it does.
So this worked out well for me overall. Installing HardSPL to my G4, and then using a correct bootloader with the right ROM (to review).
I am having one issue.
I have the OEM ROM, however the RUU gives me an error. Is there a documented way to restore the phone to an original status? Is it even necessary?
I ask due to problems since my upgrade to the TNT rom. I am noticing a lot of missed calls and people have complained. Is this an issue with the 8125 and the particular ROM?
I don't know what to ask, or how to search for this. Thanks for any input you can offer.
Otherwise the TNT rom is awesome. I do miss the voice dialing though. Thats another search.
Actually, that's usually an issue with your radio version. Try using either version 2.19 or farias 2.69 and see if that fixes your problem. You should be able to find both of them in the wiki and you may want to try both of them and see which one gives you the better reception because sometime one will work much better than the other for you depending on your location.
By the way, you don't have to be CID unlocked or have hardspl installed to update your radio so you shouldn't have an issue with the RUU giving you an error. If you do, let me know and I'll upload a different RUU for you to try.

So the Rom is broken up into major parts. Those parts must ineract with one another, so that would be why my radio version may be at cause?
Yep. The ROM can contain the IPL, SPL, OS, Splash Screens, GSM (the radio), and extended ROM, any of which can be changed or upgraded individually without affecting the other parts of the ROM (for all intents and purposes anyway). That means you can change your radio version without it deleting all of your settings or your installed apps in your OS, etc etc.
Since you still upgrade each individual part using a RUU that is able to update any of the parts you still get a warning when you run it that it will delete all of your files, but as long as the update that you're running doesn't include a new OS you can ignore those warnings.
I decided to back out of the entire upgrade and move back to WM5 Official Cingular HTC ROM. I am stoked that I now know the full process of taking a G4 through hardSPL, ROM updates and restoral.
I was too scared to try any radio updates or fixes. Maybe when I upgrade phones I will come back to playing with the 8125 but for now, I just need a good functioning phone for work.
Do these Cingular radio fix cabs apply to a standard phone or only to upgraded ones?

T-Mobile MDA on ATT Network (newbie alert)

I'm new to all of this, so please bear with me.
I know that the device is G4. I've already played around with flashing to where I've only flashed once and flashed using the Faria G4 step by step...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298967
I'd like to try a different ROM, but different things I've read have mentioned flashing back to the original ROM and starting over. However, I don't have the T-Mobile ROM. In the end, I would be using the device on ATT's network. I didn't know if I could "start from scratch" by using the ATT rom (RUU_Wizard_225111_22511102_022511_CWS_WWE_Ship_1.exe).
I pretty much want to blow away the T-Mobile stuff as I'll never use them.
I'm doing all of this because "something's wrong". It seems that any use of the wi-fi and using IE kills the battery. If I set the power management to anything other than "best performance" I cannot surf the net as everything "times out" and pages don't load.
The reason I started all of this is because I needed the newer version of WM so I could connect to an AP using WPA with AES. The WM5 that was on the MDA didn't have AES.
Any ideas/thoughts/help?

I never flash to an original ROM when trying new ones. I don't believe in the myth that an official ROM provides a strong base for upgrading. It's all a matter of deleting bytes and writing new ones so why bother?
If you don't want operator customizations then just do a hard-reset (loosing all user data) and soft-reset before the customization process. But i strongly advise to try new 6.1 ROMs out there that you'll have a great system to work with (don't forget to use an overcloking/CPU sacling app to get speed)
cheers

YUP! Very well said m8 excellent tip and info, cudn't agree more myself.I have never reflashed to any stock rom before any upgrade and never had any problems.
I'll just add here,as you have a G4 device, don't use 'Shell Tool',just 'HardSPL' it and you'll never feel the need to reflash any official stock rom to have a solid base.
Cheers!

That's one other thing I wanted to check. The instructions I've read on this site explain pretty well the step by step of going from the original ROM to a new ROM. I followed the "Wizard Windows Mobile 6 for newbies" on the wiki and then used the files from the Faria how-to. Once I've did the HardSPL install steps, is it always there? Or was it overwritten by the new ROM?
I guess I'm wondering what step I would start at for a new ROM...would I just repeat all the steps?
Also, I guess I'll always have to do the soft reset to stop the T-Mobile stuff from loading? If anything, I'd rather have the ATT stuff as I'd use their network and not T-Mobile or just have nothing.
The last thing I don't want is a brick.
Thanks for all the help! This is quite the learning experience and after my first flash I totally "geeked out".
Also, I've notice that it seems some of the ROMs are unclear as to if they are G4 or not. Unless I missed it, is there, by chance, a running list of all the ROMs? Or is it just a matter of reading all the pages of the forum? It'd be handy if there was a list of all the ROMs and if they were G4 or not.

Well, once 'HardSPL' applied will remain 'HardSPL' unless you remove it personally to revert back to official stock wm5 rom .Remember, there's no official wm6 upgrade offered by either T-mobile or At&tt,all the wm6 roms available here in this forum are custom build wm6 roms and they don't have any T-mobile or At&tt stuff included in them.
All the wm6 custom build roms are safe for G4 devices as they don't have any IPL/SPL included in them.Only roms with IPL/SPL in it are not safe for flashing to a G4 phone.Even after the 'HardSPL',the official stock rom cannot be flashed, until and unless, first 'HardSPL' is to be removed and official G4 IPL/SPL are flashed back.
Cheers!
Ok, now I understand!
Thanks!
I'm having a lot of fun with this.
