Dear All,
I have tested TWO Universal and an Wizard with this configuration:
Universal with M5000 Orange UK ROM (Orange CH)
Wizard with T-Mobile Rom 2.17..7.2 WWE (Swisscom CH)
The DirectPush work perfect with my Exchange Server 2003 SP2. The New E-mail notification took 2-3 sec to arrive to the device since the exchange server received the e-mail.
When the device is switched on I see the notification message on the screen and I hear the sound.
When the devide is in standby i hear the sound and the vibrating device with blinking led, but the screen remains off.
Traffic: I have tested only 2 hours but I have seen that the device use 5-7 kb / hours with 0 e-mail.
Thank you very much to all xda staff!!
OK - I will bite on this one. How is your setup different from that of (I believe) every other Wizard owner who does not receive vibrating notificatios of an incoming email when the device is in standby (i.e., both backlight and screen are off)? I would really like to know as this is a major problem for me, and several others, as discussed on a number of threads.

Hi matchtrader,
First to know is that my first device is a Qtek9100.
Yesterday I downloaded the
186504-ruu_9100_2170702_21707102_20710_qtek_wwe_ship.exe
and upgrade my Qtek.
With this release I had some problem with push (e-mail take 10 minutes or more).
After that I made some check on my exchange, just disabled the security. I made sure my account has Uptodate rights (user management)
After that I downloaded this ROM:
CUSTOM_RUU_Prodigy_2170702_217_20710_TMO_US.exe
After the update I just set the notification "new e-mail message" to vibrate and blink.
If I can help someone I can set up some Exchange accounts to test
I work with an Exchange 2003 SP2 on Windows Server Enterprise 2003 R2 with Microsoft ISA 2006 Server Enterprise in loadbalancing (2 servers)

Just to be clear on this, if you put your device in standby (screen off), and send yourself an email, the device will vibrate when the email is pushed to your device?
You seem to be the only one of hundreds that this actually works for.
quick question:
When you go into activesync and tap menu followed by schedule, do you see an additional link to set for "as items arrive" or do you only see an Adjust peak times to fit your schedule link. These links are at the bottom of the screen btw..
mine will make a sound and vibrate in Standby mode ONLY if I have the Outlook client hidden or closed in other words it works if you have the mail client on the background or closed at all

fx4rover -- I am assuming you have the AKU2 ROM upgrade applied? What you are saying doesn't work for me and to my knowledge hasn't seemed to work for anyone else using what I understand to be the latest Qtek or K-Jam ROMS. Thanks.
On ActiveSync I see only one link at the bottom: "adjust peak times".
The first time I set up an account I see two links, but I've noticed that this happan if Exchange 2003 isn't configured for Push.
The first time The DirectPush button is pressed, the Device check if the server accept push and remove the other link where you can set the SMS address of the device...
When my phone is in Standby Mode and I receive an e-mail, I hear the sound, the phone vibrate e I see the light flashing... but the screen remains off and the phone remains in standby mode till i press the power button...
This works with my device and other 2 M5000 configured on our server...

This is strange. Does anyone else running the T-Mobile ROM see this behaviour? Cerainly neither the K-jam ROM nor the Q-Tek ROM works this way as documented in numerous threads.

Yes I do have the update with the DirectPush, and since I applied the upgrade it has been working fine, I just need to have the mail client on the background, if I have it in front the notification will not work
this is the file that I used fot my phone, a Cingular 8125 :CUSTOM_RUU_WIZARD_217_AKU2_CINGULAR_WWE.exe
@summiter:
Is the rom that fox4rover installed your Qtek based AKU2 customization for the Cingular 8125?
@fox4rover:
I have been unable to reproduce your success on my Qtek equipped 8125. I can get the light to flash, but vibrate doesn't work when I'm in standby mode. I specifically started outlook and made sure it was running in the background.
I have verified that if outlook is the foreground app then notifications seem to be completely disabled. That appeared to be the case on my original ROM when running AUTD1.0 as well.
@moressi:
Ok, I'm convinced you have AUTDv2.0 based direct push up and running on your device. Could the T-Mobile AKU2 ROM actually contain the vibrate fix?
well i'm using the exact same ROM (the Qtek 2.17 customized for Cingular ROM) and on standby (even with outlook in the background) i don't get the vibrate at all. i DO however get the LED flashing, but that's it. MS has said that they did not add this feature to save battery life.
Can someone please send me the instructions on how to set up push mail. I upgraded my 8125 to this ROM yesterday...
Qtek ROM RUU with CING Splash:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Up...s/CUSTOM_RUU_WIZARD_217_AKU2_CINGULAR_WWE.exe
after doing so I see new options in the COMM manager and I see an icon that appears to be a push email icon but when I try to select it it just stays greyed out, won;t do anything. Could someone please help me get this set up.
Thanks,
Geno

Have you tried setting it up through Active Sync by entering your exchange server settings when creating a new partnership?
I sure didn't. Do I need to create a new partnership to do this?
there's PLENTY of threads on how to properly enable push e-mail. but the gist is:
connect to an exchange server that has SP2 AND push e-mail enabled. enter the server settings in active sync on your phone (or desktop), then sync. push e-mail should automatically be enabled when you sync, and just make sure the push e-mail icon in teh comm manager is enabled. that's it.

I'm sure their are other ways to do it, but I do it by creating a partenership via active sync on my laptop. You also need to make sure that push email is enabled on your and exchange server and it is running SP2.

Yep that's the ROM I built.
As for the T-MO AKU2 ROM, it is based on the QTek (as is mine), so its exactly the same save for the customizations in extended ROM.
One important note is that if you enter the SMS address for push, you will get an SMS charge for every e-mail retrieved. I noticed that this morning with my T-Mo service.
Unless there is a way to get around it... What is your guys' experience with this? Is there a way to not have to enter the device's address?

If you have to enter an SMS address for push, you don't have the latest ROM.

I know this is a little off topic, but was wondering if anyone has experience running Exchange SP2 with PUSH EMAIL. My hosted Exchange ISP is telling me that they do not support PUSH email (new ActiveSync) because there are major problems with the stability of the release... isnt this BS, I thought once you have SP2 you should automatically have PUSH email.
IDEAS?
they have to enable push e-mail support in Exchange, it's not automatically enabled by default. once that's enabled, push e-mail should work like a charm. as for stability of sp2, that's highly unlikely as i know countless places that are running sp2 and push e-mail JUST fine.
that's not entirely accurate. Direct Push is enabled by default, but they can disable it. It is likely that they have, if they feel that it doesn't work right.

I'm not sure that it is, it's a while since we updated our servers to sp2 but i'm pretty shure you have to put the tick in the box for enable direct push email in the mobile services prefrences before push will work.
Then again it is a while since we updated and I may be mistaken..
Has ne1 here been able to get Push to work? I installed the Exchange service Pack and enabled HTTP push. My WM5 wizard does a manual sync fine via GPRS, but when I check off up to date receipt, it keeps asking me for the phone's SMS number...
Has ne1 encoutered this prob? I wonder if it makes a dif if my Phone OS is French while Exchange server is in English
Thanks

Ours is working fine, It sounds like your setup stil to use the autd way ie. via a sms message or an email 2 sms gateway, have you put the phone in the cradle and synced since installing sp2 and enabling direct push, also we enabled the enforce divice security feature and set a password on the phone.
BTW is you deviced using an updated rom with the push facility (aku2) ? as soon as we updated our devices the divice address feature in activesync was removed.

Good question. Im not sure. My Phone is WM5 with ROM ver 1.3.1.11 FRA and operator version 12.3.5.107. How can I know if it has this AKU2? I though all versions of WM5 were PUSH enabled...
Also, did you have to install a certificate on your phone and server? Ours doesnt have one...
thanks
No only the newest roms for the wizard have the AKU2 update in them they have been officially released in the last few days on Imates ftp, and yes you need a security cert on the server and the phone for it to work if s your own certificat the device will have to be application unlocked to install the cert.
OK, thanks for the info. I guess I need to updgrade my ROM
I saw there are quite a few posts regarding the upgrade for the wizard. Could you recommned me which version you installed exaclty and where you got it? its good to use something tried, tested and true....
(Im on an HTC Wizard, dubbed M300 from Orange)
Thanks
We are using a Beta Test Rom on the tornado (qtek 8310) but there is an official released rom for your device from Imate I think.
Have a quick search for wizard rom
I found this it may be what you need

@footang:
Your device has AKU2/MSFP if the connection manager has a Microsoft Direct push button.
You need to set up the activesync exchange connection on your wizard with that button engaged to get direct push with no SMS required. I posted specifics in the Wizard forum.
Hey everyone,
I'm new to these boards but have been a long time PDA/phone user. Last night, I downloaded and installed the 2.25 ROM for my Cingular 8125 device and setup my Exchange account.
I have an MS Exchange 2003 SP2 mailbox and setup Direct Push, but the e-mails still take a minute or two to get to me when a Blackberry or GoodLink take about 15 seconds. It seems that the Exchange server just pushes out an IP packet to my phone to make it go through the [seemingly wasteful] process of performing an ActiveSync operation. So constantly my connection arrows are alternating between "connected" and "ActiveSyncing." To me, it's almost as slow as the old SMS push-pull method.
Furthermore, it seems that (a) my ability to sync my subfolders is gone. Previously, I could select folders to sync to my device from my device. Now, I can select all my folders, but they are all empty (except my Inbox). If I go to Menu -> Tools, the "Manage Folders" option is greyed out. I cannot tap and hold a folder to sync it. And (b), the option to manually "send/receive" is also greyed out. If I turn DirectPush off (which I do at night to prevent receiving my emails), I have to open the ActiveSync application to get my e-mail instead of previously being able to tap Menu -> Send/Receive from the Messaging program.
Is this normal? Are these the results that others are seeing from MSFP? Finally, are there any other noteworthy improvements in this ROM other than MSFP? If this is the case, and there are no other improvements, wouldn't it behoove me to revert back to the previous ROM?
Thank you in advance for you help and insight!
-M-
The messaging app can switch between SMS, Email and MMS. You can switch it by press Email button on top left corner or by changing accounts in menu. Sounds like all you issue is related to the fact that your messaging app is currently in other accounts like SMS or MMS.

Foxbat,
Thank you, but I am in the Outlook E-mail account. I'm pretty savvy about these things to know at least that much!
I'm still not able to manage my folders or manually send and receive and I still feel like there's a longer lag time than Blackberry or GoodLink.
Are you using the MSFP ROM with an Exchange 2003 SP2 account? If so, what are your experiences?
Thanks again!
Yes, I'm using MSFP on 2.17 ROM right now. I have none of your issues.
i can just say that it doesn't sound like the MSFP is actually working in your case. Once i switched to directpush, my messages are on my phone within 5 seconds, no activesync whatsoever. same for calendar, tasks and contacts.
i have a tmo blackberry and a tmo mda - i tested sending messages to both at the same time, on average the mda receives the message about 1 second later than the blackberry - an extrememly nice improvement.
The send/receive option in Outlook account is always greyed out, you can only receive email there by syncing or push mail. there is a thread on this on this forum, called Pocket Outlook Account is worthless or something like that.

Wrong. It works just fine all the time for me in 2.17 ROM and 2.24 ROM (I skipped the worthless 2.25 Cingular ROM). I don't know what's wrong with OP's issue. Maybe he should re-examine the settings or do a hard reset.
I had a similar problem when I updated my ROM. Send/recieve and Manage Folders was greyed out. I fixed it by deleting the sync to my exchange and re-adding it through active sync on my PC. From active sync on the PC double click Exchange server. Click the "delete server" button. Wait for it to sync and remove all your emails from the phone. Then go Tools > Configure Server Source and add it back in. This worked for me.
If that doesn't work, you can select folders in active sync. That also worked for me before I deleted and re-added my exchange. Not as handy as being able to do it from the phone though.
edit: oops. old thread. Is it 2007 already? :O Oh well, the info may help someone...

Does anyone have Windows Live working correctly on their Tilt or TyTn II????
UPDATE 01/15/2008
Ok I am resurrecting this issue as I still can not get any version of Windows Live to run reliably on my Tilt! Does anyone have a .cab install of WL (any version) that pushes Hotmail consistently????
Original Post:
I have been trying to get Windows Live working on my Tilt for the past 72 hours and I am totally stumped.
I have been able to sync my email, contacts and even log on to messenger, but for some reason Windows Live keeps getting stuck in the Checking Internet connectivity step on the sync screen. When I soft reset my Tilt, WL will keep saying Checking Internet connectivity until I force a send and receive. It then throws up a sync error (with no error message), but appears to successfully sync. Then it sometimes pushes email as it should for a few minutes, but then gets stuck in Checking Internet connectivity again.
I had this issue running the stock HTC ROM and austinsync's BigStorage w/ PIE fix ROM on my Tilt. I have used the At&t connection settings from HTC Connection Setup tool both Media Net (w/ and w/ out Proxy) and ISP.Cingular. I have also used a Cingular Network Cab file that I used with my 8525.
All other applications are getting internet connections no problem (including Live Search - the mapping program).
I have tried messing with the GPRS Always on Reg tweaks [ HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-}\Connections\|gprs connection name (my Isp/MediaNet} \AlwaysOn = 1 (DWORD decimal) ] , but that has not fixed the problem.
I have tried WL versions 10.6.0033.600 and 10.6.32.2100 along with whatever version came on the HTC stock ROM.
Does anyone have Windows Live working on their Kaiser??? If so, what Device, ROM, and Carrier are you using??
So no one has Windows Live working correctly on a Kaiser????
I have been using WL version 10.6.0033.600 on my Hermes with no problem at all. I even spent the last hour pouring over the registry of my 8525 and comparing it to the Tilt, but I could really use some help looking for a solution.
mines is working.. I'm using a Kaiser with BigStorage w/ PIE fix ROM with T-mobile service.. It was working with stock rom also.. I've used stock windows live and Windows Live 10.6.32.2100.. both worked fine.
So WL is working fine on T-mobile(US??). I am really starting to think this is an issue with the At&t network/proxy.
Anyone on At&t network have WL working correctly??
edit
By working correctly, I actually mean Pushing emails as they arrive. I am able to manually pull emails down, but I am trying to get the WL push email functionality working on the Tilt over At&t.
I am using build 10.6.32.2100 on AT&T with a Tilt and everything including push email is working for me. I am running the HTC ROM.

Did you use the HTC Connection Setup tool to configure your network settings, or enter them manually? Also, are you using the proxy or is it disabled?

If you look through these forums, there's a pretty long thread of people who have issues with their device not waking up to pull down emails.
In short, if you turned off your screen by tapping the side power button (instead of letting the screen turn off on its own), the device will not reliably wake up for either timed email pulls or push email.
I discovered this with push Hotmail - never had a successful push with the device manually hibernated, but push worked fine if the device was on.
I stopped using Windows Live because it had LOTS of issues when the device was in an area with bad/no coverage, it would make my Tilt EXTREMELY sluggish and unresponsive with that little color wheel appearing every few seconds if I had login information recorded and the phone was not in good coverage. Windows Live even pulled the phone out of flight mode to try and make a connection at least once, I wouldn't want that happening on a plane!
I let the network wizard setup the connection but edited the ISP connection to use the wap.cingular access point. Windows Live works for me with either the medianet w/ proxy or the isp connection
Yeah WL is definitely not the most reliable application to begin with, but I finally had it working like a charm with my 8525 runnning vp3G's ROMs.
Now on the Tilt I can't even get it to push email when the device is on and has a full connection.
The fact that WL is constantly stuck in the Checking Internet Connectivity step leads me to believe that there is some issue with WL opening up my Data connection on the Tilt. I have absolutely no issue connecting with PIE or Live Search.
Unfortunately I use Windows Live to manage all my emails and contacts, so I am pretty much stuck with trying to make it work on the Tilt or take it back.
I have the stock rom for the tytn 2, nothing altered, and my WL works without any problems when set as push mail and disdplay as full html format, if using it in hotmail, the ppc will default it to a simplified version.

same here. no problems.
WL is not even letting me log on! It says my user name or password is incorrect and its not because I checked by logging on in hotmail.com on my desktop.
just to clarify, I am having connection problems with Windows Live, the hotmail/messenger application, NOT Live Search the mapping application available from wls.live.com .
I have been having much better luck with Push email coming through since using the Connection Setup tool again to reset my network settings and disabling the Media Net proxy. Hopefully this keeps up tomorrow.
is it possible to have window live to push FEW email accounts at the same time?

is this in the push mail message section, did you set it up manually or automatic?
either way it's won't work, even if you put in all the correct settings. You will need to go into the start/program then click the windows live icon and set up from there and have ticked the sync email, once completed setting, you will need to log into msn messager, then soft reset afterwards.
now window live hotmail should show up in the push mail section.
after many trys and error, i can confirmed it works for me.
hope this helps.

All I did was select the WL icon and then log on.
Im not sure what you mean by sync mail and so on.
Ive done this:
Start > programs > windows live (icon) > clicked on Sign in to Windows Live > Accept user agreement (I do) and then at the screen where I need to input my user and password I get the error about mismatched username and/or password.
The Options and Account options menus are grayed out (not able to select).
I get this error
Sign-in Failure
Either the user name or the password you entered is invalid. Please try again.

@CorruptedSanity
I metioned this in another thread, but are you sure you have the correct keypad layout?
For example if you have a Tilt and flashed an HTC Rom, your keyboard layout will not match the letters/symbols printed on your keyboard. The same would be true if you flashed a TyTn II with a Tilt Rom. You could check by typing your password into pocket Word and making sure it is correct.
The only other thing I can think of is to make sure your date and time is set correctly. Windows Live has some issues logging on if the date and time on your device do not match the WL Server.
What ROM are you running?
Did not flash my rom! Straight out of the box TyTN II (unlocked).
Ive been typing a whole lot and nothing seems out of place.
How do I know which time WL is on?
How do I check which rom im running?
I have searched all weekend for a solution to this with no luck.
I upgraded my TILT to the new official ROM.
I am using exchange server for my email.
When I am using the device or sometimes when I start to use it, a window is opened full screen with the title "Activesync." The form has a big empty rectangle in it.
I know the device is "syncing" however , i don't want it moving to the top of everything I am working on.
Is there a way to hide this function?
Thanks

yes, i would like to know as well...i have never seen this before
Well I discovered the cause of the window popup... This empty activesync dialog is actually an error received from the exchange server, specifically exchange server 2007.
There is a known BUG that Microsoft has been working for the last few months that occurs between WM6.1 and Exchange server 2007. If you mail from your phone on your exchange account, it will send the mail, however the mail remains in your PPC outbox that results in sending the mail again upon the next server sync. The mail never leaves your outbox - resulting in the error dialog, and the mail sending over and over - 26 times for me last night to a group of 20+ people.
I may have to downgrade my Tilt to WM6.0, unless I can find a magical way of deleting the email from the PPC outbox after it is sent....

umm...are you sure about this, what about the people that have never used an exchange setup. or are you saying that by default, that the phone is trying to connect to an exchange server?
What I am trying to say is if you are using an exchange server for you email - as I do for work, then this bug occurs only for the OUTLOOK mail.
I have two yahoo accounts and one gmail account and I do not get this "stuck" sent mail in the outbox. Only in the OUTLOOK mail that communicates with the company exchange server.
Sorry for the confusion...
Well, I have to downgrade back to 6.0. Bummer! I was enjoying the battery life from the new radio in the ATT6.1 rom.
I sent one mail from my device, went straight to the OUTBOX to delete the mail - and during this 30 second time frame, it sent the mail 5 times!
Just a warning, if you are using exchange server 2007 - do NOT upgrade to 6.1. Sending mail is just broke.
I use WM 6.1 and ES 2007 without issue, never heard of this bug. Do you know anyone else at your job with the same issue?
another issue
hi i have another issue with AS and i cant seem to find anyone else with the same problem. while syncing music/videos with wmp11 on vista the connection is always lost about 1/4 the sync list. anyone know about this?
marty...
Yes I do. Someone just got a TILT for work that came with 6.1 already installed. He has the same issue with the email.
Thanks
thex
I don't use exchange server myself but have you tried changing your schedule settings to sync manually. I beilve it's in activesync/menu/schedule
HBEAR,
Yes I have. I tried setting it to exclusive. Heck, I even mapped the PPT button to show the today screen to get by the popup.
The popup you are seeing is the error from exchange server. When you send mail from the exchange account, the mail will get stuck in the outbox and keep sending until you delete it yourself.
Our company is going to implement the Microsoft patch to fix this in the middle of October. I couldn't wait, so I downgraded back to 6.0. TF2D works great on it. However, now my battery drains fast again.
I looked through the forums to see what radio and SPL that could be flashed for a 6.0 rom but everything I found was for 6.1. So I am using the unbloated ATT rom.
Man i miss the 6.1 radio!
Afternoon,
I finally got round to setting up my gmail account on my vario 3 and actually using it to send and receive emails etc but there is a small problem...
I have set it up to heck from mail every five minutes automatically....however, it doesnt seem to work...i think i have narrowed it down to power settings...
I have the backlight to go off after 10 secs and teh "turn off device" after 1 minute.
After that minute, the pulse that checks for mail doent run untill i do something with the phone to wake it out of standbye...
Is there a fix available for this other than modify my power settings (which i would prefer not to do)
TIA
Matt

Not sure I understand fully but if you want it to truely receive push email, then the data connection must be active all the time... and that uses power, lots of it. When you think about it this makes sense because how is the phone going to know when a new email comes in unless it's constantly connected to the internet. I had this setup with my Hotmail account after someone here told me how to do so but reverted back to only checking manually when I wanted it to after I found the battery life fell through the floor. You could make sure other things like bluetooth and wifi are turned off when not being used to maximise a charge but even just having data on all the time makes quite a difference.
from what i understand of push email, it uses a pulse to connect to the net, check for mail and then disconnect again...i have always had my internet connected on my vario and never noticed a increase in battery life when i have spent days without it off (on holiday)
is there not a way to make the 5 minute pulse ignore the screen being turned off?
Window Mobile Push Mail requires an Exchange Server (2003 or 2007 flavor) on the other end.
Without that your just using scheduled pull mail.
The heartbeat/pulse whatever you want to call it does continue to work when the device is in standby if you are using true push mail.

Do you know if that includes Hotmail? If its set up right, my Hotmail emails will be received pretty much instantaneously. Maybe they use Exchange Servers - I don't know if these can be configured for HTTP mail? Even when I had that configured though I still didn't get the Com Manager Microsoft Direct Push Icon to jump to life (it's always been grey).

@hotmail and @live use M$ Direct push, if you set it up for " as they arrive " emails. They do this however by keeping your phone constantly connected = kill battery. I had to shut my push email off to get a full 8hrs out of my battery.
Seven Push Email
Hey maybe you can try this little app called Seven from seven systems. It provides free true push email to WinMo environments. You can configure many accounts for example from hotmail, yahoo, gmail and others. There is a beta that is completely free of charge. Ive been using it for quite a while now (WinMo and Symbian) and Im very pleassed with its performance. Check it out here http://www.seven.com/ and go to the beta program section to download it.

Thats what I've tried in the past and certainly the emails arrive pretty quickly. I don't know if its genuine Push Email or just polling really often though. It also doesn't explain why the Microsoft Push Email icon in Com Manager never does anything other than sit there greyed out.

That highlights when you have a proper exchange account attached for push emial therefore isnt activated when google and hotmail are set up.
M
that 5 minute setting is not called "pushmail". it's calles "i'll ddos my mailserver by asking for mails every 5 minutes"
there are several free pushmail provider arround www.mail2web.com is one of them. they offer a completely free exchange 2003 account with active sync for contacts, tasks, calendar and pushmail
I find that the Windows Live 'As items arrive' option works well, though this seems to be pulling at high frequencies to provide the illusion of Push e-mail. I used to experience temperamental service but now it works flawlessly - as well as friends' blackberry devices. I don't have to keep my phone signed in to Messenger which is often advised to maintain a consistent delivery of e-mails.
I set up the Blackberry Connect service (£5/month) with T-Mobile UK but immediately reverted to using Windows Live (which is free given that you have a data connection) as the BB Connect service acts as a middleman, while Windows Live connects directly (or appears to) to your Hotmail inbox. Messages you read or mark as unread will be viewed as read/unread in your mailbox via a PC, folders can be synched and sent items are synchronised. Perfect for me. The only problem is reduced battery life.
For anyone who tried to use Windows Live 'Push' e-mail and found it to be inconsistent, see here: http://www.windowsmobiletraining.com/Connection/forums/t/2134.aspx.
I was always wondering about the battery too.
So I did a power drain test...
Hope this link helps!
