Omap while talkin' - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Hi all
Need to change the clock to standart 180 Mhz while I'm talkin. My current clock is 264, but my phone loses connection, when it runs on 180 - everything seems OK.

Anyone?

Set to 252 should run fine all the time.

yeah, I think the general rule of thumb is if something screws up and you're overclocking the cpu, crank it down and keep cranking it down until it works correctly. your phone may not work correctly if it's driven even one notch higher than it's rated speed and each phone is different. I stopped overclocking entirely after a short time because I saw no real benefit and it seemed to cause networking to hang. Hasn't slowed me down in the least.

Finally TI OMAP Overclock tools

I hv come across this overclock utility for TI OMAP, OmapClock 0.2
I have tried it on DOPOD 818, overclock up to 240MHz, runs without problem. Opening SMS dan File Explorer is now alot faster.
Anyone with TI OMAP processor should have this !!!!
It should run on Smartphone too.

Great find...thanks...
Works brilliantly. Thanks
Impressive! What about CPU temperature?
I'm equally impressed by the speed gains of this little program, but am somewhat concerned about other potential side-effects; like frying the CPU!! :?
Anyway, I'm using 'batti' to keep a close look on the temperature. It's qite a handy little tool.
http://pda.jasnapaka.com/batti/
Please let us all know how you get on with this program over time.
P.S. Does anybody know what temperature should NOT be exceeded by this CPU? Mine is currently at 30 degrees and it was at 24 when I started using the overclocker.
Correct me if i'm worng but the batti app looks like it shows battery temp, not cpu temp? (prehaps your battery temp ahs gone up because you've been holding your pda ;-p)
My Bad! Temp is for battery NOT CPU!!

Your absolutely right!!
Thanks for bringing my attention to this very important point.
Anyone know of an application that accurately shows the CPU temperature?
when i run in 300MHz which Mini S, it will hard reset.. I don't know why
hi minhbu_sg,
when i drive a 90° curve with my car at 100 miles per hour i always have to leave the road just kidding. the reason for hard reset is just of physical nature. you have exceeded the limits of your built-in omap cpu. at 300mhz it does something but not what it is supposed to do. same thing when you have, let's say, a glass of whisky. having one glass of whisky does slightly influence your cpu (brain) and everything you are trying to do is a little bit easier (at least you feel so) but having a bottle of whisky drives you doing things you don't want to do at all.
so keep overclocking you omap moderately and you get the best benefit out of it.

peter
300 mhz
hi
i install this software and i put my device clock to 300 and it stop working.
i try soft reset but it didn't start. and i try to hard reset it also didn't go
please help what should i do.
thanking you in advanced

i installed this on my kjam and worked great with noticeable speed boost, BUT....
when i suspend the kjam, and open it again, the speed goes back to the defauls 180.
is this normal? or something has to be done to enable the speed i choose until the next soft reset at least?
Yes, it's normal - and yes, you would have to use some manner of application to re-start the overclock after a suspend. See also the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=40284
Can somebody tell me how to run this program. Im pretty new to all of this and not sure where to install on my qtek s200 and how to run it.

U device (Qtek s200) is a HTC Magican. This forum is about HTC Wizard. Try to look in Magican forum.
People! When wizard is in suspend it runs on 180 mhz? Can we decrease this value in suspend mode?
oh yeah!!! now, my device [818 Pro] run faster @240MHz...it seems as same as XDA Mini...[even better]...thanx!!!
cheers...Oi...!
i'm confused
i'm using a Dopod 818pro,and i already used the omap overclock v.0.2 ... i copied it into my device (not storage card).then i run it on 252Mhz,and set action..so the speed is already 252Mhz and very fast... but i've got some problem, when i turn my device to standby mode, and when i push the power button to sms someone,i check my speed,it went back to 180MHz,is it normal?? cause if it runs under 180MHz,that means it didn't run at 252MHz right????
thanx any way.....
sort of off topic but that batti program is nice...
it's kind of like the battery meter that comes with spb, but better...

Wizard Omap Overclocking

I'm thinking about overclocking my Wizard beyond the stupid 195 mhz. How 'bout we all put down our clocks so we can have some suggestions on how to overload our Wizards to the max!
Good idea, go ahead and give it a start yourself;]
I've always heard/read that it's unsafe to overclok wizard beyond "the stupid" 240MHz, but i don't quite believe it. Feel free to try and inform me, what say you? ;]
I'm bringing it to 210 right now. Can't say I notice a difference, eh?
As was said by many people on this forum, you won't notice big difference below 240. most programs operate with similar performance, and battery life doesn't change much neither. Only skype is said to run better - personally i didn't feel anything while doing this, so i don't overclock myself after checking it out.
i use to run at 260 with no problems ever. but i decided to go to 240. since there wansnt a big change in preformance from 240~260.
240 is good for the wizzard. I play doom,quake,wolf3d,and skype with no problems.
Skype does make my device hot after 30min of use.
Agreed
Running mine at 240 according to Omapclock. No problems and alot faster.
Yep, been running it at 260 also. I did notice a change in performance with with my bluetooth headphones. Less music dropping out and Arvale I and II seem to catch up with the headphones on.
But yeah, 240 might be my next standard. But battery life wont change? Are we sure?
been running at 260 for a long time now. No problems.
I used to run 240 (24-7), but the phone would "reboot" when on phone calls sometimes. I moved it down to 228 and zero reboots, thus far.
A friend gave me his MDA today as he never used it. I will be doing some testing on that thing this week.
MDA Over Clocked
I have mine set to 252 for over a year without any problems.

You are very brave. Search for the other threads on this topic. I run my at max 260 and use the scale function to "float" down to 143. Works very well.
--M
I've been actually floating myself from 260 and 195. I set it to 260 when I'm impatient waiting for thumbnails in pictures to load up or when I'm playing a heavy graphics game. I only get crashes when I switch from 195 to 260, but that's only when it hasn't been switched for a while.
312 is brave...
I've been at 260 for months, since 273 causes my system to hang / crash. I'd love to go faster...
I only overclock for watching videos or running my GPS software. . . and -- even then -- I limit to 240. Works like a charm and my GPS keeps up with my lead foot.
Limits
Hi,
I'm running 260, but haven't been long enough to see any damage, but the phone is much faster.
How much can these things take?
All my pc's are madly overclocked, but a busted cpu / mainboard are cheaper than a phone.
I've been running at 260 on various ROM's for over a year now. Haven't had any issues with rebooting and it does make a very noticiable difference compared to the standard 195Mhz. I have noticed recently that my battery is starting die big time so I am wondering if the overclocking has taken it's toll.
I run mine at 240 (as per the omap settings) 24-7.
I have just moved to the XM6r2a Lite Version from the standard o2 WM5 release ROM and have had no problems. I found that when I clocked at 260 it would occasionally hang. No problems at 240 though.
My device is the fastest I have ever known it running XM6r2a Lite clocked at 240.
...
I tried running at 312 just for the hell of it and found there to be no problems...
at least at first glance. After browsing the net for about 30 min, the screen started to frizz out on me and i couldn't click anything and I noticed my mda was getting quite warm (112 i think, hehe)...
Long story short, It worked well in short bursts..but for the long haul, 312 would have fried my cpu
im running 247 at the moment and i notice a difference

Problems overclocking to 273

Okay I see in a few people's sigs that they overclock their wings to 273. Highest I can go is 247 without the screen messing up or being shakey. Just wondering if someone could fill me in on why it might not be working for me.
147? You mean 247?
But, it depends on your CPU. It's just like a PC CPU, they're not all exactly the same. There are imperfections in the material that is used to make them. I've been able to overclock mine to 286mhz and I haven't tried anything higher just because I'm afraid of burning it out, but it seems to run perfectly at that speed without any issues. It's just a draw of the luck type of thing.
Ah okay thanks.
I also Have problems at 260 where the screen goes black with white lines and at 273 where the its ok untill I open the start menu the start menu start shaking, but at 247 and 286 I have no Issues, so you can try 286 and see how it works for you
I consistantly overclock mine to 286. I have used other speeds as well, but I have never had a problem with any speed. I dont know if I really want to push it and try anything else. Besides, the wing functions great overclocked to 286.
Even better. 286 works even though the other ones didn't.
Guess I amd lucky I don't overclock on a normal basis but I use the Omap Apps for only a few apps.
175mhz (underclocking) for programs I leave idle to save power.
273mhz for any program that I want to perform responsively.
When all apps are off the phone idles at 201mhz.
But as for 273mhz my phone runs stable at that and even at 299mhz when I'm feeling brave. I never use 299mhz on a regular basis I just tested it when trying CpuScaler. But it was stable as far as I could tell.
aad4321 said:
Yeah, i run mine at 286 Constantly, i recommend not using the cpuscaler, because when it lowerers the processor speed, certain speeds such as 260 dont run properly on my phone. 286 seems to be the best for me as well.

I have the same problem as everyone else with the problem at 260MHz. I still use cpuscaler though.
Min = 143
orig = 195
max = 247
Boost = 299 (tick the Add Boost)
I find that this is the best way save battery and get performance as well.

overclock widget

worked great for a while then kept force closeing anyone haveing problems??
It seems to be working fine for me. One thing is that when I set the clock to 128 or something, the status displayed on the widget still shows 527. The performance is significantly slowed so I assume it's doing it's job.
Overall I think it's a nice little widget. Great for maxing out performance, and maxing battery life by limiting performance.
Phone:
Black G1
JF 1.51
Yup...me too
I will make the change but it sometimes does not refresh the gui. It will also not work if you reboot. (if i remember correctly) also tons of force closes. I am on 6.01 and have tried JF1.5 and am curently on HERO but have not had success with the widgets on the build yet so I dont have a confirmation.
Could someone post the previous version of this app please? The updated version on the market shows "problem loading gadget" on the Hero rom when you add it to the screen..previous versions worked without any problems. Thanks in advance.
edit: nm..fixed it..just had to run the odex optimization script and all is good again
just use SETCPU from market...its more stable thank open overclock......at least it doesnt unclock back to 384mhz
what is a good configeration for over clock..i dotn want to mess up my phone??
I was thinking the same and should I have it on always max. Or what?
I've got mine set to 128Mhz min and 527Mhz max, it has drastically increased my battery life. Batter life barely drops 1% overnight.
Anyone have the Version before the 1.7 update. The new update doesnt seem to work on hero w/ Rosie.
You can grab the 1.6 apk from the Dev's Google Site (check the Files section).
1.7 doesn't work with Ion for me either

Did setcpu support choosing a different freq. when the screen is off? Setting that to 128 - 245 has helped my battery greatly. One question for anyone using OC apps, does your phones at any time run at a lower freq than what's specified as the maximum? I just set my phone to (with the screen on) to 128 - 384 because if I put it all the way to 527 it won't come down (unless I turn the screen off).

1.2.0 does not currently.
I swear, the next version will (I swear!). I'll also add some basic battery profiles (if battery is less than 50%, set the speed to something) and a profile for charging. Of course, it'll always be free here (link in my sig).

Yes. You can usually catch it by doing cat proc/cpuinfo in ADB. It depends on what the phone is doing at that moment.
That's strange it doesn't work well with hero. Since I'm using haykuros adp1.5hr3 it workd beautifully, but the regular overclocker app doesn't even budge and I uninstalled that..idk tho, probably a build issue as far as I'm guessing.

The creator of the original Overclock app hasn't updated his application for even Cupcake build support yet. I thought he removed it from the market.

I have the Overclock Widget and my question is, is it bad for my phone that while my screen is on i have it a min 527 max 527 then while screen off min 128 max 245... I've noticed that phone charges last longer but the useage of going back and forth determental to the phone? Thanks

Thanks, that would be of great help. Specially the battery profile settings. If you could also put a monitor, be it a widget or something on the notification bar it would be beyond awesome, or maybe a just notification of when the speed is changed and to what it was changed to.
Does anyobdy know if this SETCPU works on Hero ?
And must the app be on after i set the clock or can i close the app after ?
*bump* need to know

[Q] Why does my hero keep restarting? (Gingerbread 2.3.2 aosp)

It always restarts automatically, when i make a call, the call just freezes and when i turn the phone on from standby to see what happen, well you guessed it, it restarts! its pretty annoying i went through 2 batteries today in 8 hours, because of the restarts. please help!
If your using the stock kernel I think its overclocked to 768 not sure though. Try one of dec's 691 kernel the #589 is my recommendation. Hope it helps good luck.

There could be a lot of things happening. The most common is that your running a clock speed higher than that which your phone can handle. Not all heros are created equal, mine for instance starts rebooting at anything higher than 691. Try a different kernel or if using setcpu or over clocking widget to lower your upper end clock speed. Your phone freezing when coming out of standby can mean your lower clock speed is too low. ASOPGB has JIT enabled by default as well. Go into the settings and turn it off, then reboot. You will just have to play until you find out what works for you. Good luck!

Set cpu or similar will not fix the issue, laie was right a capped 691 kernel is needed and probably a capped recovery as well. Btw jit is no longer default in gb, and jit would not cause reboots anyway.

Ahh thanks for the info, I had not gotten through all the new posts on the other ASOP GB threads. Good to know though. I have no tried out the rom, I plan to this weekend and my phone does NOT like kernels that clock above 691.
