I'm thinking about overclocking my Wizard beyond the stupid 195 mhz. How 'bout we all put down our clocks so we can have some suggestions on how to overload our Wizards to the max!
Good idea, go ahead and give it a start yourself;]
I've always heard/read that it's unsafe to overclok wizard beyond "the stupid" 240MHz, but i don't quite believe it. Feel free to try and inform me, what say you? ;]
I'm bringing it to 210 right now. Can't say I notice a difference, eh?
As was said by many people on this forum, you won't notice big difference below 240. most programs operate with similar performance, and battery life doesn't change much neither. Only skype is said to run better - personally i didn't feel anything while doing this, so i don't overclock myself after checking it out.
i use to run at 260 with no problems ever. but i decided to go to 240. since there wansnt a big change in preformance from 240~260.
240 is good for the wizzard. I play doom,quake,wolf3d,and skype with no problems.
Skype does make my device hot after 30min of use.
Agreed
Running mine at 240 according to Omapclock. No problems and alot faster.
Yep, been running it at 260 also. I did notice a change in performance with with my bluetooth headphones. Less music dropping out and Arvale I and II seem to catch up with the headphones on.
But yeah, 240 might be my next standard. But battery life wont change? Are we sure?
been running at 260 for a long time now. No problems.
I used to run 240 (24-7), but the phone would "reboot" when on phone calls sometimes. I moved it down to 228 and zero reboots, thus far.
A friend gave me his MDA today as he never used it. I will be doing some testing on that thing this week.
MDA Over Clocked
I have mine set to 252 for over a year without any problems.

Im running 312 using the latest OMAP for Trion....it doesnt crash...it works great...I wonder if its actuaally 312 or just say sake..

You are very brave. Search for the other threads on this topic. I run my at max 260 and use the scale function to "float" down to 143. Works very well.
--M
I've been actually floating myself from 260 and 195. I set it to 260 when I'm impatient waiting for thumbnails in pictures to load up or when I'm playing a heavy graphics game. I only get crashes when I switch from 195 to 260, but that's only when it hasn't been switched for a while.
312 is brave...
I've been at 260 for months, since 273 causes my system to hang / crash. I'd love to go faster...
I only overclock for watching videos or running my GPS software. . . and -- even then -- I limit to 240. Works like a charm and my GPS keeps up with my lead foot.
Limits
Hi,
I'm running 260, but haven't been long enough to see any damage, but the phone is much faster.
How much can these things take?
All my pc's are madly overclocked, but a busted cpu / mainboard are cheaper than a phone.
I've been running at 260 on various ROM's for over a year now. Haven't had any issues with rebooting and it does make a very noticiable difference compared to the standard 195Mhz. I have noticed recently that my battery is starting die big time so I am wondering if the overclocking has taken it's toll.
I run mine at 240 (as per the omap settings) 24-7.
I have just moved to the XM6r2a Lite Version from the standard o2 WM5 release ROM and have had no problems. I found that when I clocked at 260 it would occasionally hang. No problems at 240 though.
My device is the fastest I have ever known it running XM6r2a Lite clocked at 240.
...
I tried running at 312 just for the hell of it and found there to be no problems...
at least at first glance. After browsing the net for about 30 min, the screen started to frizz out on me and i couldn't click anything and I noticed my mda was getting quite warm (112 i think, hehe)...
Long story short, It worked well in short bursts..but for the long haul, 312 would have fried my cpu
im running 247 at the moment and i notice a difference

Hi all
Need to change the clock to standart 180 Mhz while I'm talkin. My current clock is 264, but my phone loses connection, when it runs on 180 - everything seems OK.
Anyone?
Set to 252 should run fine all the time.
yeah, I think the general rule of thumb is if something screws up and you're overclocking the cpu, crank it down and keep cranking it down until it works correctly. your phone may not work correctly if it's driven even one notch higher than it's rated speed and each phone is different. I stopped overclocking entirely after a short time because I saw no real benefit and it seemed to cause networking to hang. Hasn't slowed me down in the least.

did it. Smtimes network still hungs... but rarely
I've beat the learning curve and i think i'm now ready to move up to wm5. But first i was wondering if, besides the bluetooth, there are any reasons, for me NOT to move up to wm5?
thanks.
it is a little slower than 2003 but it is more stable than 2003, if bluetooth is not an issue for you try wm5 you will like it, if you not like it you can always downgrade
Its slower than 2003SE, and sometimes you feel like throwing it against a wall....more so than 2003se.
I used my friends HP ipaq, boy that thing flew (2003se) it was responsive with hardware and software buttons..must be using a faster cpu.
so a reason not to is the speed.
do you guys have yours overclocked?
Overclocking?
I do, well, techincally it's vary-clocked. I use Power Hacker which automaticly adjusts the CPU speed as needs be. In idle the CPU sits at 100Mhz and on load it jumps up to 554Mhz with various overclocking on the RAM and such like.
The fact it idles at such a low CPU seems to give me a bit more battery power to make up for the higher drain when in use.
There is a topic about overclocking on the main "Blue Angle" Forum.
As for reasons to upgrade to WM5, to be honest I've forgotten! I think it was just because of a few annoying bugs, like the BT and Wi-Fi connection issues (having to soft-reset the stupid thing everytime I want to reconnect to my home wireless.) and also just because it has a nicer layout.
You know, before my next WM5 flash I might just go back to WM2003SE for a couple of days just to remind myself what's so great about WM5....
the only problem i have w/ WM5 is the keyboard problem. lags sometimes and keys lock

Unfortunately that is for Himalaya 8)
Sorry !!! My mistake.
But is very goood !!!
A speed question.
So i've been playing around with emulators. Mainly morphgear, pocket snes, and pocket nester. To get the best performance out of the blue angel while playing very resource intensive games like legend of zelda link to the past or super mario world, (both with sound), i'm having to overclock.
So i started using pocket hack master, ( phm for the searchers).
The highest i can put my settings without it crashing and to make these games run decent looks like this.
SDRAM clock: 147.50 mhz
pxbus (internal bus) clock: 148.00 mhz
run to turbo multiplier: 2.00
Mem to run multiplier: 2.00
Turbo is 592.00 Mhz
Run is 296.00 Mhz
Now. After looking at all this information my question is how much more resource intensive is wm5 going to be? Will these roms not be able to run reliably? I'm assuming i'm just about topped out, and i'm also assuming that wm5 is going to take more juice. But i'm wondering how significant of a difference i'm facing?
Does wm5 run slower because it's more resource intensive or just slower by defualt? as in the way it's coded?
Okay I see in a few people's sigs that they overclock their wings to 273. Highest I can go is 247 without the screen messing up or being shakey. Just wondering if someone could fill me in on why it might not be working for me.
147? You mean 247?
But, it depends on your CPU. It's just like a PC CPU, they're not all exactly the same. There are imperfections in the material that is used to make them. I've been able to overclock mine to 286mhz and I haven't tried anything higher just because I'm afraid of burning it out, but it seems to run perfectly at that speed without any issues. It's just a draw of the luck type of thing.
Ah okay thanks.
I also Have problems at 260 where the screen goes black with white lines and at 273 where the its ok untill I open the start menu the start menu start shaking, but at 247 and 286 I have no Issues, so you can try 286 and see how it works for you
I consistantly overclock mine to 286. I have used other speeds as well, but I have never had a problem with any speed. I dont know if I really want to push it and try anything else. Besides, the wing functions great overclocked to 286.
Even better. 286 works even though the other ones didn't.
Guess I amd lucky I don't overclock on a normal basis but I use the Omap Apps for only a few apps.
175mhz (underclocking) for programs I leave idle to save power.
273mhz for any program that I want to perform responsively.
When all apps are off the phone idles at 201mhz.
But as for 273mhz my phone runs stable at that and even at 299mhz when I'm feeling brave. I never use 299mhz on a regular basis I just tested it when trying CpuScaler. But it was stable as far as I could tell.
aad4321 said:
Yeah, i run mine at 286 Constantly, i recommend not using the cpuscaler, because when it lowerers the processor speed, certain speeds such as 260 dont run properly on my phone. 286 seems to be the best for me as well.

I have the same problem as everyone else with the problem at 260MHz. I still use cpuscaler though.
Min = 143
orig = 195
max = 247
Boost = 299 (tick the Add Boost)
I find that this is the best way save battery and get performance as well.
Well...tonight I was playing with my phone and decided to mess with Battery Status. I was checking out the temperature depending on the speed I over clocked it. I went to 247 and 260 and everything was running pretty smooth. I with to 273 and the screen flipped out. This had happened to me before with a previous rom at 260 so I wasn’t freaked out. I soft reset and I got some weird blue screen saying my phone had some sort of power failure. It asked me not to remove the battery and hit yes or no. I really don’t remember what it said. I hit yes and prayed and my phone came back up. What was crazy was that it had hard reset my wing all on its own. The setup screen came up and I was like wtf. This was pretty scary as I thought I had fried it. I’m just glad I didn’t f something up. Has this happened to anyone else?
Odd. Im running 273 constantly right now. All is good.
All I know is that it scared ish out of me. lol I wont be messing with Battery Status for a little bit. I've overclocked before but never had that problem.
off the wall CPU behavior
I received a replacement phone yesterday a brand new one not a refurbished I flashed it and as I do with all roms I over clocked it with BS I usually use 260 Mhz with 273 Mhz boost and cpu scaler, well as soon as I did that with this phone the screen started flickering, the more I used it the worse it got until the screen was no longer readable I soft reset and it flickers when it's booting up too, I managed to get back into BS options and lowered the speed to 247 Mhz and no boost, still same problem, I decided I wanna fry this thing now so I took it to 312Mhz to my shock it actually was more stable so I figured let's go all the way something I have not attempted before I went to 325 Mhz with 338 Boost and the phone was much more stable thenat 247 or 260 the screen flickers just a bit here and there and as soon as I touch the screen it stops and fonctions the way it should, the speed is sooooooo f^*&^ awesome it's hard to go back to 260Mhz. Anyway I tried this with 2 different rom to make sure the rom was not and issue. I know processors in same type of phones can behave differently, but did this happen to anyone, I am gonna test it for a few days and see what happens cause if i keep having problems and can't over clock the way i want I am sending it back for a replacement (after I have processor goo oozing out the sides of the phone..lol).
Each phone is different. My friend's Wing maxes out at 243 but my bro's maxes out at 273.
Wing OC'd @ 286MHZ most stable

I run my wing at 286MHZ, and enjoy good stability. Really can't remember the last time I experienced a freeze. I experienced the same screen malfunction at 273MHZ, but didn't suffer an arbitrary hard reset. 299MHZ was very unstable for the Wing, and I'm unwilling to experiment with higher speeds.
hehe. I was messing with Battery Status tonight and unwisely selected the start over clock on reset, so now I am stuck at 273mhz and my screen is flipping out. I can't reset it from the on-screen obviously, so is there a way to restart it in some kind of safe mode and adjust the program??
Oh thank goodness, I just searched what soft reset is, LOL sorry. Stylus saved my phone.
Yikes! Just I'm using Open Touch 3.0 and just tried to overclock to 273. Screen started FREAKING out. Couldn't use the screen at all. Had to hard reset manually by holding the left and right soft keys and pressing the soft reset button. Thank god I did a backup before I messed with it.
I figured I'd give it another shot. Im using CPU scaler with a low of 156 and max of 247 and it seems to be running good. I like the fact that it only uses what it needs. I may bump the max to 260 but don't see the need right now.

I am responding to myself here ..lol so after some testing and trial and error it turns out that cpu scaler cause the screen to flicker or go blank at all speeds, with cpu scaler off the phone runs very stable all the way to 325 Mhz so I have it set at 286 no problems at all and battery life is pretty good.

Thats crazy...every phone is completely different. Mine is running great with CPU scaler.
Okay im pretty much going through the same thing. I went up to 263 from 247 and now my screen is all screwed up but the phone is still working. Just the screen is gone. What can I do to lower it back down to 247.
Hi, did anybody tried Snails? It is good game, but on Diamond it is lot a laggy. And thats bad, becou on other phones this game run smoothly even on 200 MHz CPU!
I've got Snails Reloaded and it runs just fine.
ROM is custom based on 20273.
Did you enable GDI cache?
Oh, it is nice to meet someone who knows the thing.
So, there is the story: first, I downloaded Snails Reloaded from PDA Mill (My intention was to try it before buy it) so, I installed it on Original 1.93.401.2 ROM, Instalation run OK, and then first problem came - when I set game settings, and clicked on -->, sound of click was played, but nothing happened. So i clicked it several times, and now the game started, but it was laggy, not much performance, even on my A701 phone set to 100 MHz mode it was maybe better. But, i read benchmark table here on XDA, and I figered out that original 1.93 ROM is kinda slow on games So I flashed last ROM from SwiftBL (5) and tried it again, but the same result, laggy, and multiple clicks needed to start the game.
About GDI cache, I dont know nothink about it, but game like snails should run on 528 MHz CPU perfectly, so I am little frustrated.
I hope you have enought informations, so if you know what should I do, I am listening
So, I searched for that GDI cache thing, and found nothing. But, I dont belive that Diamond´s CPU is unable to run this game smoothly even with original ROM. Is he can not, it is a piece of s***.
Does disabling the sound fix the lag ?
Try maxing out your caches:
Either with advanced config, or add this to your registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\GLYPHCACHE]
"limit"=dword:00020000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS]
"EnableCache"=dword:00000001
"CacheSize"=dword:00000800
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ FLASHDRV\FATFS]
"FatCacheSize"=dword:00000200
"DataCacheSize"=dword:00000400
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\f sreplxfilt]
"ReplStoreCacheSize"=dword:00008000
Be careful as it might make your device unstable.
Thanks for reply. I will try it tommorow, it is deep night now at my location. Anyway, I tried next game, anthelion, also from PDAmill, and it runs slow too. I understand that 3D game could be slower, but even menu is laggy, and same thing, Asus P535 on 416 MHz can run it much faster than Diamond in 528 MHz. Maybe some WM 6.1 problem? Do you can play snails withount that problems I described? Does WM 5 has that registry tweaks you wrote me activeted? I played Call Of Duty mobile too, but this game is fater on Diamond that P535. I will try more and I will post.
