Removing and cleaning the buttons on Blue Angel - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

I just bought a used Blue Angel and everything seems to be working perfectly except the main buttons (up/down/left/right).
It is possible that it's a simple matter of cleaning the contact-surface under the buttons, since they work sometimes.
But how do I do this? I have tried removing the two torx buttons on the side, but do I need to remove the back ones too just to get the buttons removed in the front?
If anybody could help me I would be forever grateful for 5 minutes.

i just bought one used and dropped with two screws broke/ missing. The slider is also Sticking on my as is one button. it's been pretty heavily used. I'm getting ready to do a complete tear down and rebuild testing some connections and cleaning everything as i go along. I'll post a guide this weekend as i do it.

I'll be delighted to look at it!

Dirt can accumulate in between the fascia and the rubber buttons, try cleaning with an old *slightly* damp toothbrush inbetween the grooves before diss-assembly.
To get to the buttons, you need the back off, board out to reveal two smaller torx screws holding the LCD assembly to the slide. Remove these 2 and the 2 usually visible with the slide up, and prise the lcd housing away from the slide from the bottom edge. There are then some small philips screws holding the front fascia buttons in place.
If you need a new fascia keypad I have them listed here:

Stylus problem

When i first got my diamond the stylus used to snap in through magnetism back into its location. The snap in effect has now gone. anyone else had the same poblem
yes, there is a little magnet inside the slot where the stylus goes.
if you are lucky it has just moved, so you will have to put it back.
the magnet (a rectangle about 2x15 mm) is placed right next to the bottom of the battery.
it looks like at piece of plastic so it might be hard to see it.
on side of it is with stickytape (i guess the tape is not very good)
Yes i did my magnet had fallen out! Orange replaced the handset for me...

to be honest it took some phone calls to change it. Best to tell them because of the loose stylus your phone keeps unlocking itself and it rings people.

HTC X7501 Housing

For those that were considering a new housing for their X7501 I found a website I recently placed an order with. For the past few weeks my searches were coming up with the housing for the X7500's but I lucked out tonight. If anyone's interested in purchasing a new housing the link is:
http://www.order-bulk.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=dopod+u1000&Search=Search
I'll give feedback after my order is received.
now i need to have $100... i want this. i will need this in the future, but i must get one right away.

I know responderman had done the swap of the housing already. He might have some information along with pictures on it. If you don't get any replies or find anything let me know and I'll see what I can come up with. I too myself will need it anyway. My housing should be here any day now.
EDITED:

Just to say it is tricky will be an understatement, so I would ask for advice from somebody that has done it, even with the manual, just to minimize damage.

The file link Responderman gave is coming up blank for me. Anyone got a better link to this repair manual? I dropped my x7501 and smashed the corner of the case - still works fine, but the case is slowly disintegrating....!!!
same here, cant download megaupload file, and part of zip missing :-S

I am so frustrated. After ordering my housing, it finally came today (2 wks late), only to find out it's the X7500 housing. Not only that but getting out the car it fell on the face and got a slight scratch on the side. I will attempt to reach out to the supplier and see why they have false advertising on their site. I'll see how the return works out.

managed to get the megaupload pdf downloaded, must have been my ffox noscripts!
ok, so p29-33 seem ok, how does the bottom panel (with the battery cover) slide off?
also, what about the vueflo button, does that just get pushed in and then the internal unit slides out?
thanks for your help, i too ordered off order-bulk, the black case, what is difference to x7500 case?
also, navi rubber button, does the rubber bit in center pull out, then reveals a screw? or does the whole bit screw off?

how does the bottom panel (with the battery cover) slide off?

you pull the navi rubber out, under it there is an screw, unscrew it and take the joystick, take out the power and comm manager/record bottoms
the top part is taken by starting from the corner ( next to the front camera) and continuing through to the other side (be careful with the volume bottom
pull the two plastic layers ( one in the corner other near the centre)
to take the plastic at the bottom, remove the screws and careful take the part
Now you should have a metal case opened at top and bottom, slide the internal parts towards the top
I didn't find it easy so read the manual until all is clear and good luck.
got mine today, no vueflo replacement button, and case bottom cover is warped! grrrr, peed off now, got an orange 'hole' where the vueflo was lol! (which apparently you can leave in place, same for 'ok' and 'menu' buttons on left, as theyre attached to the case, not the internal housing, which will slide out past them with no trouble! - hindsight eh!? marvellous thing!!!).
oh, and my rubber nipple cover pinged off somewhere into the obscurity of my carpet, great!!
edit: just a note, you don't have to take the battery bottom case part off first. you can do that once it's all slid out. much easier, as you can get to the little buggery clips without hassle!

touch screen unresponsive

My touch screen has stopped working in Android. I can navigate with d button but can't use the screen. I've tried re-installing with the lastest nbh and the latest version of warm donut. but still the screen wont' register a touch. occassionally it does if the google search widget is installed. I might flash a windows rom to see if it's a hardware problem. Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks!

Try going back to WM and see if it works.
indeed it is hardware
same problem with WM. guess it's time for a new phone. thanks for the responses.
Jumbo, you can still salvage the phone.... try this... take a duct tape and stick one end on the screen and gently lift the other end gently... enough relieve some pressure off the screen ( the digitizer)... keep a contant pressure OFF the screen for about 2-3 mins....
Then try the screen again... see if there is any response...
If that does not work
Get a exacto knife... and gently slide the exacto under the digitizer ( the plastic screen ) its about 1 mm thick... do this from the top and once you are able to grip the top, slowly lift this screen... about half and inch to an inch max from the top while keeping the bottom of the screen stuck because it has a connection you dont want to cut or disconnect otherwise you will have to open the HTC completely... take a clean soft cloth and swipe the inner screen ( dont put too much pressure on the lcd which is the glass screen fixed on the htc ... the digitizer however , which is the plastic screen you lifted off can be cleaned from the inside.
I had an unresponsive one as well and this is what i did and i revived my htc.... otherwise you can buy another digitizer off ebay with the tool but it looks complicated to open...
good luck...
a little disclaimer : dont hold me responsible if you screw up... this worked on mine and i was able to stick back the digitizer in its original place...i used alcohol to clean the inside, because my digitzer was always touching the lcd and it had an oily patch where it touch... must have been sweat or something and because i put it in my back pocket i must have had too much pressure on the screen
Sweet! There's hope! I'd love to have this little phone back and have it take me to the promised land of the HTC EVO. I'll try this out.
It lives!
Turns out taking off the screen protector and simply pulling up a bit on the corner of the lcd screen fixed it. Thanks, QkSi1ver!

if your inner LCD ( the glass one) is not cracked like a glass and you can see the full LCD and that the only symptom is that you cant navigate using the screen, then its just because the digitizer is touching the LCD and screwing up the I/O...
The 2 easy fix is relatively safe and not much is required (Some old Duck Tape & Alcohol).. .than having to buy another digitizer and put it apart... something which i was not comfortable with even if i have the tool .
But as with any tinkering, be careful when you lift it up or put the exacto ( this when i tried it on mine i remember i was crossing my fingers (with my other hand of course ) so that i dont cut anything like wires or contacts underneath because i had no idea what i was getting into... but after doing it i can safely say, you can't screw it up as long as you dont use the exacto at the bottom end of the touch )
You only need the knife to lift it up a little and enough for you to grab it and life the top part up so that you can fit a cotton cloth underneadth to clean the inner side of the LCD and digitzer...
Funny,
I had the same problem after installing Android. Would up returning/swapping my Vogue.
I wonder if Android usage affects this in any way--even indirectly, e.g. Vogues weren't designed to take constant/large/sweeping finger presses, etc.
Any thoughts?

I would like to add that I had to replace my digitizer a few months back and it was actually quite easy to do and the digitizer itself was cheap ($10 on ebay).
Sadly, you are exactly right. No more back pocket, evar! Thanks again, so happy to have a live cell phone again...

Got a broken power/lock button? How I fixed mine.

Ok, I have/had a broken power/lock button on my Moto Droid 1. I called Motorola and Verizon to try and get, Verizon just wanted to sell me a droid 2 and moto just wanted me to send it in for repair. I decided to try and fix it myself. I tried a couple of "fixes" found on the net from cleaning it externally with alcohol and with contact or tv cleaner. The alcohol worked for a couple of days but it became totally inoperable today. So I watched a video on disassembling it and found the actual problem. I will explain the best I can so that maybe some of you can fix your own. The actual problem on mine was the button assembly. There is a very small piece of yellow tape holding down a tiny piece of round spring metal that makes contact on the power switch shorting them out and creating a complete circuit. On mine the yellow piece of tape was stuck to the power button plastic piece and the tiny piece of spring metal was down inside the phone. To get a working power button again all you have to do is fine the small piece of metal and put it back in place, cover it with tape and reassemble the phone.
Step one: Watch video and get required tools for dis-assembly.
look on youtube for a video. Directfix.com has a video and also sells the tools needed.
Step two: Locate the small piece of metal.
Step three: Orient the piece on to the power switch. (The piece is beveled and needs to go with the bevel pointing up. So that when you press on it it will pop down and then back up.)
Step four: Carefully cover the power button assembly with a small square of tape. I used black electrical tape, I tried scotch tape but it lost its sticky after a few presses and the small piece of metal moved.
Step five: Partially reassemble the phone and test.
Step six: If your tests from step 5 worked finish assembling your phone and enjoy.
I hope this helps some of you out there that have this problem with a phone out of warranty.
Let me know if I can answer any questions about the process.
first of all i'd like to thank you, thats exact the same way i TRIED, but when i opened up the phone, i had to realize that all of that 'pieces of metal' are gone! (both volumes, and the power one). so what to do now?
is there any workaround, or a place where i can get those, beside buying another damaged phone and stealing those metal stuff from them?
thanks!
Thanks

Mine definitely isn't loose at all. There's no wiggle room in any direction. Tapping lightly doesn't nothing, but pressing firmly gives a nice solid click, just as you would expect.
I'd exchange it through TMO before your window closes. That is, if it bothers you (and it would bother me).

they're all like this. have yet to come into contact with one where there isn't at least a slight bit of movement vertically. i believe this was intended and how it was designed.
@whittikins might want to try putting on glasses and check again. it's an extremely tiny bit of movement, very hard to see unless you're really looking for it.

OP didn't have to look for his. He said that tapping it lightly makes it move and is loose. Mine doesn't and is not loose at all. The only movement I can get is by pressing just enough to not click it and putting pressure up/down (toward the top/bottom of the screen). I can detect a slight movement, but it's silent and not at all like OP describes. Pushing against the edge of the button with my fingernail in any direction doesn't result in any movement. I have to be pressing down and purposely pushing it sideways to see anything.

My home button is firm but it does wiggle a bit.
But whats bothering the most is the battery life!
I also have a black one and just picked it up Sunday here is Australia. I have taken it back and had it replaced as the Mobile provider agreed that it was a fault. The new one now also has the same issue.
I have also found a video on youtube that shows the noise that it makes as it is so loose. www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=Y5FoWeDGQZ4 (not able to post link as I am new)
Contacting Samsung customer support was not much use but they said that it can be sent in to look at but will be charged if no fault it found. I believe it to be Faulty.
this is a massive hassle to be without a phone for who knows how long... not impressed.

Same issue here. The left side of the home button rattles a little bit when i press lightly on it. Should i exchange or is it normal?
I got the 32GB S6 in Black.
My Button wiggles too when i slightly move it up and down, not much but it bother me a lil bit.
Problem is: i rooted my phone and after that the problem occured...
I dont know if they would see the Knox Trigger, cuz its a Materialfault and im in the first 14 Days(Got it 2 Days now).
Maybe i will live with it.I didnt pay for it.
My Provider gave it to me for free bcuz i was about to cancel my contract
