My touch screen has stopped working in Android. I can navigate with d button but can't use the screen. I've tried re-installing with the lastest nbh and the latest version of warm donut. but still the screen wont' register a touch. occassionally it does if the google search widget is installed. I might flash a windows rom to see if it's a hardware problem. Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks!

Try going back to WM and see if it works.
indeed it is hardware
same problem with WM. guess it's time for a new phone. thanks for the responses.
Jumbo, you can still salvage the phone.... try this... take a duct tape and stick one end on the screen and gently lift the other end gently... enough relieve some pressure off the screen ( the digitizer)... keep a contant pressure OFF the screen for about 2-3 mins....
Then try the screen again... see if there is any response...
If that does not work
Get a exacto knife... and gently slide the exacto under the digitizer ( the plastic screen ) its about 1 mm thick... do this from the top and once you are able to grip the top, slowly lift this screen... about half and inch to an inch max from the top while keeping the bottom of the screen stuck because it has a connection you dont want to cut or disconnect otherwise you will have to open the HTC completely... take a clean soft cloth and swipe the inner screen ( dont put too much pressure on the lcd which is the glass screen fixed on the htc ... the digitizer however , which is the plastic screen you lifted off can be cleaned from the inside.
I had an unresponsive one as well and this is what i did and i revived my htc.... otherwise you can buy another digitizer off ebay with the tool but it looks complicated to open...
good luck...
a little disclaimer : dont hold me responsible if you screw up... this worked on mine and i was able to stick back the digitizer in its original place...i used alcohol to clean the inside, because my digitzer was always touching the lcd and it had an oily patch where it touch... must have been sweat or something and because i put it in my back pocket i must have had too much pressure on the screen
Sweet! There's hope! I'd love to have this little phone back and have it take me to the promised land of the HTC EVO. I'll try this out.
It lives!
Turns out taking off the screen protector and simply pulling up a bit on the corner of the lcd screen fixed it. Thanks, QkSi1ver!

if your inner LCD ( the glass one) is not cracked like a glass and you can see the full LCD and that the only symptom is that you cant navigate using the screen, then its just because the digitizer is touching the LCD and screwing up the I/O...
The 2 easy fix is relatively safe and not much is required (Some old Duck Tape & Alcohol).. .than having to buy another digitizer and put it apart... something which i was not comfortable with even if i have the tool .
But as with any tinkering, be careful when you lift it up or put the exacto ( this when i tried it on mine i remember i was crossing my fingers (with my other hand of course ) so that i dont cut anything like wires or contacts underneath because i had no idea what i was getting into... but after doing it i can safely say, you can't screw it up as long as you dont use the exacto at the bottom end of the touch )
You only need the knife to lift it up a little and enough for you to grab it and life the top part up so that you can fit a cotton cloth underneadth to clean the inner side of the LCD and digitzer...
Funny,
I had the same problem after installing Android. Would up returning/swapping my Vogue.
I wonder if Android usage affects this in any way--even indirectly, e.g. Vogues weren't designed to take constant/large/sweeping finger presses, etc.
Any thoughts?

I would like to add that I had to replace my digitizer a few months back and it was actually quite easy to do and the digitizer itself was cheap ($10 on ebay).
Sadly, you are exactly right. No more back pocket, evar! Thanks again, so happy to have a live cell phone again...

You sure? Is it unfixable?
EDIT: I put some duct tape on the screen cover and lifted it up and the oily rectangle went away but comes right back. I'll have to do some cleaning of the screen. Perhaps it is warped but removing the oily substance will help hopefully.

Since my diamond will be ariving today i wanted to ask peoples opinion on the (included) screen protector.
- Is it necesarry you think?
- Does it make the screen better (i read somewhere the screen is staticy and with the protector its better
- Did anyone not use it, then apply it and decide it was better/worse? Or use it, then remove it? I'm looking for someone who might be able to compare directly the difference with/without it.
- Does it look odd?
- Can you tell the screen protector is applied?
- Does it have any negative impact on the screen - make it less clear, or make the touch less sensative?
I'm sure everyone will have their own opinion, but i would like to make a decision right away while the screen is clean, and not after a few days when it gets really greasy
I put mine on right after I unpacked and I do not regret ... It`s almost invisible. Screen is clear ... readable. Putting on was easy. I do not want to risk scratching my screen

well i sutck it on.. i was slightly bent but bubble free.. i removed it.. got read to realign it.. got dust underneath.. stuck it on and bubbles..
Massive failure! i never have any luck with screen protectors.. my tryng to make it perfect always screws me up!
remove it - wash it ... use dust remover ... ... since Diamond has no bevels at rear of the screen applying is even easier that with my previous devices ... how to do it ? simply take Credit Card ... put first third of the protector onto screen. From other side put Credit Card and start pushing it while rolling protector onto screen. there should be no bubbles then.

Hehe i usually get my brother to do these sort of things for me...hes much better than i am.
Was the screen protector sticky under the side you put on the phone??. If it isnt then one thing i noticed when my brother put my screen protector on my old SE P990i was he dropped a few drops of water on the side of the protector that goes on the phone...so you can easily slide it about till you have it perfect etc.

dont dry it, just let the water excess drop off it naturally then stick it on the phone...like i said in my earlier post, it will make the protector easier to slide about to get the perfect fit. Once you have then seal it down with a credit card pushing the air and excess water off the side. You probably will still have a few air bubbles but over time they will disappear.
great advice thanks!!
I got a couple of tiny bubles i'm working towards the side of the screen and out. That should keep me entertained for the next 10 mins lol.

I hate screen protectors - have always taken them off after 24 hours on every HTC device I have ever had. They usually tint the screen, make it too reflective and reduce the sensitivity and accuracy of the device.
However, I read the above comments and thought I'd give it a go anyway (same as I do with each device).
Blow me - it turns out that for once the HTC screen protector is excellent. You do not notice it there at all.
Very impressed!

I ordered a Brando UltraClear screenprotector because I heard great things about these things. It turned out to be true for me.
I always hated screenprotectors because they dimmed my screen and were ugly. This one you can't see and the screen is as bright as without! Excellent!
i fiddled and fiddled with it, but its a mess. I'll order a new one i think.
Biggest complaint so far for me is with touch flow u keep accidentally clicking stuff. Its a big pain in the ass. And its not because i'm clumsy, its just a combination of poor responsivness and bad timeout to calculate what you want to do.

If you mean the responsivness of the touschscreen, this can be adjusted in the registry. The responsivness of the touchflo3d itself on the other hand we have to live with

hi,
i accidentally scratched my screen, anybody knows what can be done to remedy this?

actually scratch removers peel down a little bit of your surface and for a touchscreen I can´t recommend any scratch removers at all! Think you have to live with it although even on a normal screen you can´t remove deep scratches only light ones.
though, i think it's there forever mate, a screen change may be?
that's why i always insist on a screen protector since day 1, didn't the package come with a screenguard?

You can also try and put a screen protector to sort of cover up for it.

HTC Diamond Replacement Screen
HTC quoted a friend £75 for labour and brand new replacement screen.
I used the scratch remover.
And it works pretty nice.
i can only see some leftover superficial scratches when the sun shines on it.

75 is not bad for a new screen!
Where did he do that?

Does anybody else have the same problem? I'm not using that keyboard a lot, so probably those who use it every day should get even worse results...
A friend of mine doesnt use it much too but got these scratches also...
i got one on the enter key. dont know where i got that one. maybe i got some little dirt whatever stuff in my pocket and it went into the x1 and when you slide it up it does that scratches :/

Never heard of or saw these types of scratches on the keyboard. Wow.
wash ur fingers before u use it
if u have dust or sand-like stuff on ur hand it will act as a sand paper
and apply less force when sliding ur phone apart
take care
Lol I would never touch your Xperia, it looks ****ing dirty Man, what are you doing with this phone?!? Gardening?
Obviously people don't know how to take care of their stuff. Word of advice, don't have kids.
hey, it looks like a "cracks in the case" case
Manufacturing defect
I don't know what you put in your pockets, but your X1 keyboard looks really dirty (especially with the wood piece under the blue key). I have some dust on my keyboard because it's in my left front jeans pocket the whole day, but this dust just goes away if I blow on the X1. If something don't goes away, use a dry soft tissue, or the humid tissues used to clean camera lenses.
the second pic clearly shows marks that clearly states that your x1 received torture dude, whether it be dropping or rubbing against something rough, it also shows something looking like dirt(mud) including dust on the board surface.
it looks as tho the phone fell many many times whilst the slide was out and possibly dragged on that surface on some kinda object
poetryrocksalot, i have 3 kids ages 6,5,3 lol, and my stuff are in tip top shape
scratches do not appear just like that, its impossible for scratches to appear out of the blue...in other words, your x1 clearly shows bad handling and money wasted on a device that deserves an owner who knows how to care their devices.
the only scratches im gettin is on the battery cover
my x1 got it too but just on the enter button... not as bad as yours but anyway... had mine for 6 or 7 months now... i think i know how the scratches get there and sorry for my swenglish... when i push the i dont know what to call it.. .lets call it the display to reveal the keyboard i put my thumbs on the bottom of the screen and push upwards but at the same time i push it slighty down and therefore i get the scratches try it and you will see how it touches the enter button...
I won't be able to sleep....... ever.......
heey fellow forum readers,
i hace got a oil stain under my screen
can somone tell me what it can be?
thnxs fore the info
Hello my friend.
Well actually that is very bad news. If you are inside the guarantee go to your dealer because this is a hardware and manufacture problem. Its a common problem on the latest hi res touch screens for htc.
I have the HTC touch diamond and i have the "Oily square of death" which is a like a rectangle just in the middle of the screen which looks like oil. My be your screen has become less responsive, some are reporting that with the time the screen goes completly useless and does not work at all.
There is no way you can fix it by yourself. I know its hard to know, still is a common problem So sad my friend.
Regards-
Bad situation. Sorry to hear that.
I dropped my TD2 to the ground today and i was very scared. I hope its okay.
this is caused by too much pressure on the screen by for example carrying the phone in your pocket and sitting down. i had the same problem and abviously the screen lowered itself into the phonecase. have a look on the phone sidewards and i think you will notice the same. i had luck and had an guarantee exchange. but normaly htc does not cover screen problems! take care with that phone.. even the manual says.. dont carry it in the pocket and sit down.. which is quite ridicolous for a mobile phone isnt it?
I had a dust particle under the touch screen (between the touch screen and display).
I've took the phone to my designated service (which was not an original HTC service) and they've cleaned it up. Now it's ok.
Maybe you should do the same.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION!!!!
I fixed the very problem you guys are having with duct tape. Yes duct tape. The problem is not that the layers are separated, but that they are stuck together. So basically, your phone is acting as if it's continually being pressed, I put duct tape on the screen and gently removed it. I had to do this about twenty times, but eventually it separated the layers and the phone works like new. I know it sounds crazy, but it worked. I am aware of one other person who has had success with this method. I saw him post it on another forum. I believe this method will work for many of you so please try it and please be patient. As I said, it took several adhesions and removals before it worked.

if you cannot fix it with ducktape it is because You are not using much of it!
ducktape - a mans best friend!
reminds me of a time when we hooked up a projector with ductape during a conference
tape everywhere!
Tape works!!!
LOL
Last week I bought an Diamond 2 because the digitizer of my Cruise stoped responding. I tried the tape thing and... my cruise is working as a charme again.
Were there is duct tape there is hope
Wtf???Who came up with this????F***** awsome!!!The screen finally responded but seeing using a direct light there's still a square...Replacing a digitizer should sholve the problem, huh?
It hapend for me to this morning but the screen was still responsive.
Then I did the quick tape reperation and now whola rings are gone
hi
i think this tape sollution should be a sticky
had a go at the duct tape as a bit of a last ditch attempt.
still no luck, the oil stain disappeared however the screen remained mostly unresponsive.
a bit of screen mashing will press certain things in certain places, but not where the initial pressure was applied.
might keep trying it later.
word of warning though, careful if the sticky tape is strong, my digitiser started separating a little. i've resigned myself to a new one anyway so it wasnt much of a loss for me if ive made it worse.
just an fyi
Hi ,
anyone found a detailed guide on how to change the digitizer?
Tilt 2 Screen doing this.
OMG My Tilt 2 has the huge oil stain square thing now. Never had this before. First time I had it in my pants pocket ever without its case... 1 time. ATT says that I damaged the screen. By having it in my POCKET? WTF. This sucks. Ill try the Duct Tape thing. I hope that works.
IMO you can't expect a digitizer to withstand constant, direct pressure such as that inside of a tight jeans pocket. After all, it's just a few sheets of plastic with tiny gaps in between.
The digitizers employed on the TD2 and some other, newer models seem to be particularly sensitive, but nonetheless this is a common hazard with ANY resistive touchscreen. The plastic in a resistive touchscreen has to be soft and bendable, and because of that it is also susceptible to warping.
Capacitive touchscreens can be fitted with tough screen surfaces thanks to the relevant touchscreen components sitting behind the display panel and not in front of it.
I've used a hardcase with screen cover for the past six months since I bought my TD2. It makes the screen somewhat inaccessible on-the-go, so it's not the most practical solution. Still, it's the only way to truly protect the screen from pressure.

Hello.
According to screen replacement tutorial videos, they remove the screen after heating up the corners with dair dryer(or kind of tool). So I would try heating the hoovered area a bit and press it to make it stick. Just a humble opinion.
