I've uploaded a 2.17 ROM that has .NET Compact Framework 2 integrated. The files for CF2 are in the ROM, and the necessary registry entries are created via a cab file that is part of the extended ROM. If you bypass execution of the ext ROM customizations, you won't have the necessary registry keys for CF2 to function.
I should probably repeat that: If you bypass execution of the ext ROM customizations, you won't have the necessary registry keys for CF2 to function. (nor will you have the Cingular customizations including GPRS and MMS settings).
The ROM is based on the 2.17 version that has lots 'o extra ringers and themes, and OmapClock. Makes tatertots too.
If you don't know what CF2 is and have never installed software that requires it (not much does..the most popular is probably WiFiFoFum) then there's no need to flash to this ROM. However if you do use applications that require CF2, you'll benefit from the storage space savings by having CF2 in ROM.
For first-time upgraders from stock devices, I beg of you, please, no matter what you read about successful flashes without CID unlocking, do yourself (and my inbox) a favor and CID unlock anyway. =)
The ROM is available here:
ftp://xda:[email protected]_RUU_WIZARD_217_AKU2_WWE_RNGRS_OCLOCK_CF2.exe
I may create one based on 2.08 at some point down the road.
Thanks, and enjoy. and whatnot. and what have you. and stuff.
EDIT: fixed link since it's been moved. Not sure why it was put in a Cingular subdir of the main Cingular dir..
Sorry to be the total noob...
I installed the custom_ruu_wizard_217_aku2_cingular_wwe. (BTW, a great piece of work).
Do I need to downgrade to the stock Cingular rom before flashing this rom?

I for one would appreciate a 2.8 version of the same. Thanks for all your efforts.
Still no luck extracting the A2DP stuff and including it with the 2.17 version eh?

how to rerun customizations
is it possible to run the customization routines later (after the first reboot from RMO upgrade)? I wonder if this would work (to preserve prior settings/applications):
Backup using SPB
Install new 2.17 rom on top of old 2.17 rom
cancel customizations
install backup file (which will overwrite registry)
run new customization to add CF2 to registry
Or, can you upload the CAB with the CF2 reg entries so it can be run again later?
thanks,
jason
Summiter, I tried the 2.17 ROM with Cingular customizations, ringers, themes, and OmapClock last night. (I unlocked CID, and SIM as well just in case.) It worked great. Nice job and many thanks!

It's there but there is an extra Cingular directory try ftp://xda-developers.com/Wizard/Rom..._RUU_WIZARD_217_AKU2_WWE_RNGRS_OCLOCK_CF2.exe
Summiter,
I removed CF2, backed up, then installed this ROM and then reloaded my back up. Did I lose my CF2 registry settings by reloading the back up of a non-CF2 system? My WiFiFoFum2 doesn't work now but I don't know how to tell if the CF2 is loaded properly.

That's what happened - you wrote over your registry with the one that no longer has the CF2 keys. When I get home in a couple hours I'll attach the cab file to my reply that will recreate them.

PS Not the 2.8 but 2.17.

Like I said, I'm probably doing something wrong, but...

Attached is the cab file to create the registry entries for CF2.
It won't help you if your flash to the CF2 ROM was not fully successful. This file is for folks who's flash was successful but have restored their registry from a backup of a non-CF2 ROM.

hi summiter,
a couple questions sir for your GREAT GREAT ROM (MUCH FASTER).
do i just click on it and it just runs at that speed? so if i click on 252 it runs at that speed forever until i click back on 200?
also, how do i know if i didn't bypass the customization?
thanks a million for a job well done.

When you click one of the links, it will set the clock to that speed until you suspend the device by pressing the power button briefly or it times out.
What I've done is map my camera button to the 252 link, so when I need an extra boost I just hit the button. It will stay overclocked until I suspend the device.
If you want it overclocked always and forever, you'll have to call OmapClock with a notification event which requires a 3rd party app to set up. Read through the OmapClock threads to find out more.
I like the having it rest to stock speed on suspend since it conserves battery by only being overclocked when needed.

Yep - the customizations run after you get past the alignment stuff. It's the part where you are locked out of your device while a perdy progress bar takes its sweet ass time as it installs countless cab files.
If you were so inclined, you can bypass customization by pressing the soft reset button as soon as the poorly worded notification pops up saying "It will now customize....". I don't recommend that.
WiFiFoFum working?
Has anyone successfully run WiFiFoFum with this ROM? I had a seemingly successful flash (I had the long wait for installation after the alignment on the first boot). Everything seems to work except WiFiFoFum. I haven't tried anything else that requires CF2 yet, but WiFiFoFum gives me an error:
Code:
This application (WiFiFoFum.exe) requires a newer version of the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework than the version installed on this device.
When I click "Details" I get:
Code:
WiFiFoFum.exe
InvalidProgramException
I even installed the cab file provided above to make sure the registry was right.
Essentially I'd like to know if this is known to work okay so I'll know that I should try flashing it again.

P.S. Thanks for all of the work summiter - I don't think I could have done this myself...

Appears as though the flash didn't take. If you execute cgacutil.exe in the Windows directory, what CF versions are reported?
What ROM did you have prior to this one?

I've made another patched ROM: ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Blueangel/wm5_test/ba_wm5_patch3.rar
It differs from the previous ROM in the increased disk cache size and FAT write-through mode is turned off. This potentially can cause loss of data, though in my tests everything worked fine. SPB Benchmark test shows the huge increase in file read speed on my device.
After flashing the device you don't need to do hard reset, nor you'll lose any data (except for system clock settings).
mamaich, can you please tell me what software you use to edit the ROM and maybe a link to a tutorial? I'd like to take my knowledge to the next level.
Thank You,
Alex
Currently there are no tools to make custom ROMs as were for WM2003. I use hex editor (HIEW32) and IDA (www.datarescue.com) to find places I need to patch.
Thanks. I don't think I'm going to tackle that at the moment then
mamaich,
Taking the modules from the emulator image is a smart way bcz it shares the same build, but isn't it better to use the modules dumped from the universal?at least they are final.. (so far)
Universal modules I've tested would hang. There may be 2 reasons - they are dumped incorrectly, or they are designed for VGA-screen. Himalaya 1.60 files work, but they crash often. I think that this is a problem in a dumper. It dumps XIP DLLs/EXEs from memory when they are already loaded by OS and their data sections are already initialized. This cannot be fixed.
Images from emulator are dumped with dumprom tool that produces almost correct files.
I've played a bit with Himalaya registry settings and trueffs.dll driver and made a CAB that would unhide "Extended_ROM" folder and make it fully accessible.
Use this CAB at your own risk as it is not heavily tested.
Fatastic - Will try it right now
Hi Mamaich, Great work.. I will try it at ones... I have just one question, all the patch there has been made for the other ROM will they still work with this one
As soon as I have tested the new ROM I will let you know...
Re: Fatastic - Will try it right now
all the old patches should work with this rom too.

Thank you very much, Mamaich, I finally got working (particulary, but still) a program that did not work before at all.
The extended rom unlocker works; still unable to install a new splash screen. Does the ext rom need to be bigger?
Edit, how do you hide it again? thanks
Edit2; i hard reset (clear storage) and its no longer showing. Hope there will be an easier way soon. Thanks

You can not hide your ExtROM once you have repartitioned it. Read the WiKi
is it possible to make an already full patched(button fix, camera, bluetooth, etc) rom with all basic programs (such as mms client, stk, backlight, etc)?
i think yes but i'm not able to make it..it will be very usefull for newbies such me..
with this full rom you do not need to post lots of duplicated threads and all will works since the beginning..
yeah i would like that to,
so we only have to install it without patching and so
very good idea!!!!
but now, apart the Wiki, there is a list of all patchs that must be installed?!
'cause I don't have enough time to read alle the pages in WM5 problem resolutions thread
well,
so far, i created a project for a extended rom under wm2005.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_WM5_Extended_ROM
Butt im stuck, it will not install off the rom after a hard reset.
If this would be working we do not have to worry anymore if we forgot or lost our sd card for the neccesary patches.
i think yes
i can make a list but someone has to do that
i think tha the 'default' are:
camera fix
wm5_v3 fix
button fix
midi with album fix
missing system programs (mycpl.rar)
traylauncher
wifi programs
sim manager
and a set of default programs:
pdf reader
xscaler
pocketplus
pocketrar
etc..
I would say no, i'd rather have the choice to install what patches i want. For instance if i dont use MMS or prefer the soft keys of WM5. The way it is now you can configure the device just as you want. Getting a working extended rom you can customise would be my choice. I definitely wouldnt want Pocketplus installed by default on my device.
It has to work first.
So anybody already found a working autorun.exe and config.txt files?
I Tried alot of those two, but still not able to get it working under te extended rom after a hard reset.

Yes i dont have to use it; but if the patches are no longer released separately then i have no choice. If there is a choice of all-in-one rom and non-patched that will be ok. But you have to think of who creates the rom, it may be easier just to maintain one rom version. I guess we have to wait and see..

Not yet, preparing my device now, autorun is 17kb from this one
setup is 104kb, looks common, exept the dates are a bit older.
Manually launching the autorun of files on the extended rom will work, so i guess that i have to do a hardreset again, thats what i going to do later the evening. lol 8)

No luck. wil not automaticly run.
Still need to make the rom visible and run the autorun.exe for the installs.
But this is the nearest solution for now i guess.
So you still need a single cabfile on a sd card to unhide your rom and install all files on there.
If anybody knows the bytes to change in the nbk or nbf files or maybe in the bootstrap, the adaption could be completed and the patches would automaticly install after a hardreset. .
please don't OT
...so
dev can make all in one rom and single patch

i for one would love an all encompassing rom patch. reading through all the duplicate posts and other resolutions is a real hassle for noobs. we see the same questions being asked every 3 days or so and it just creates more clutter for the other noobs to sift through. i figure a lot of those fixes should be included in the next patch of the current wm5 rom anyhow if people rather wait for that to come around.

I think this deserves its own topic. Original post from Tuatara:
Hi everyone ...
Sorry, I've run out of time for providing you with an updated ROM which I wanted to have feature complete. I'm off on vacation tomorrow for 2 weeks, and can't keep working on it until I'm back.
I've been playing around with many things (adding/removing files, fixing the Midlet Manager, updating Camera, etc.) but I haven't got the ROM to the point where I feel it's 100% ready for others - but having said that, I've uploaded it to XDA Dev, and you're welcome to give it a try and see if it improves things for you.
This is MAINLY an update from Mamaich's v2a ROM, which does contain the Quantum Timing Patch, and the Performance Tweaks.
I've also made a few filesystem changes - predominantly removing the Midlet Manager (which wasn't working), applied all of the Performance Tweaks as per the thread (and a few more), changed the default startup elements to suit my tastes (at the moment), and added some useful programs and details to the ROM. (psShutXP, Running Programs, Shortcuts to missing elements, etc.)
The ROM is in /Uploads/Blue Angel/wm5_test/Tuatara_v2a_Custom.zip
Inside the ZIP file is the nk.nba file, along with the updated registry files (boot.rgu, default.rgu, and user.rgu) which have been merged in. I've unfortunately forgotten to include initflashfiles.dat in the ZIP, but that file is directly available from inside the ROM anyways.
The ZIP also contains a different EXTROM - only the missing files, camera, and midlet manager are needed now, and there is no warning about publisher on installation anymore. You can obviously customize the EXTROM cfg.txt file to your liking, and install anything and everything all at once.
Additionally the ROM itself still has some additional space for applications, so if you want to cook your own, there is some space available to add more.
Sorry I won't be able to answer any questions about this ROM, or handle issues on it for two weeks, so it's up to you if you want to try it (or just decompose it and look at the changes).
Enjoy, and I hope everything goes well.
Regards,
Robert.

Personal thoughts: I think this ROM gives some performance boost indeed, not much, but it is noticable. Nearly every bug is fixed now, only the bluetooth disconnect issue is left. My BA is fianlly shows itself disconnected when i take it off the cradle (with the previous ROMs, it often showed that it is still connected).

But I can't seem to enable SmartDialilng by removing the "_" from the mfc80u.dll_ and msvcr80.dll_ files for SmartDial will start to work? These 2 files are missing from this ROM but even after I've copied these 2 files into the \Windows folder, SmartDialing still doesn't work. Any ideas?

Hmm it seems that MMS is broken in this ROM indeed. Will add to WiKi.

You should try a different program, such as GSPlayer or TCPMP.
ok... i use TCPMP
but i want to know mediaplayer don't work on this rom
ok himalaya's rom work for me
I downloaded the new Rom and having a little trouble trying to download to my SX66. I have upgraded and downgraded the WM5 on my SX66 several times. I was wondering since the rom file is nba instead of nbf does that make a huge difference. I admit have have not messed around with my device data cause I find that a little complicated. I usaully use the MA_Upgrade cause I don't have to tweak too much. Any suggestions?

In this case, you should use the harder way. Read step 4 of the upgrading process (see wiki) to upgrade via BaUpgradeUt.exe.

The nk.nba file needs to be converted back to nk.nbf regardless of whether you use MA_Upgrade or BA_Upgrade. I use MA_Upgrade. There is an modelid entry of the USER.rgu that should be changed to PH20B1. I'm not sure whether these *.rgu files need to be copied to the \windows dir or added back into the nk.nba file. Any thoughts KTamas, i'm thinking the later.

You don't have to do anything with RGU files at all. You need to use xda3nbftool (with editfix.bat if you want) to patch the ROM.

I just upgraded to the beta T-Mobile 2.24 ROM. I upgraded from the custom 2.17 by xelencin. I avoided the tmo customizations from installing but have a couple of questions. Is there a way to extract the custom cabs from xelencin's ROM (i.e. the Tmo Network Customizations) that get installed in the Extended ROM or is this something I would have had to do prior to upgrading. If not, is there at least a place I can locate the Certification_Disable.cab separately?
I have a feeling that the answer is that I would have needed to somehow extract them from my MDA in the Extended ROM prior to the upgrade. If so, I am not opposed to going back to the 2.17 or even his new 2.21 ROM but can someone point me on how I can access the Extended ROM to get the cabs if I install his custom ROM?

The quickest way for you to get at the cabs would be to install Total Commander (free file manager..search for it via Goooooogle) on your device. Then type "\Extended_Rom" in the path bar at the top. Don't do anything with the files you see there other than copy them to a folder somewhere else on your device. If you try to delete or otherwise modify them you will corrupt you extended ROM (not a big deal, but you'll have to soft reset to fix). Once the files are copied elsewhere you can have your way with 'em.
Something I've never understood is installing a ROM clean without the Ext_ROM cabs....from reading through the posts, it looks like the cabs can be installed later, but will those cabs go into program memory instead of the locked/hidden extended ROM? Wouldn't I be better off letting the Ext_ROM do its thing so I don't waste precious program memory?
Is there any way to uninstall a cab from teh Ext_ROM without a hard-reset? I know deleting files out of the Ext_ROM corrupts it, but these progs don't show up under "Remove Programs", so I'm thinking I'm stuck with them. Guess what I need to do is create my own Ext_ROM without the cabs I don't want?
I think I hit my question limit for one post, so I'll end it now...

There's a bit of a misconception regarding extended ROM. Most of the cab files there only set registry and provisioning settings. Very few actually install anything to the device. Extended ROM is about 10 megs in size. Whether it's full or not has no impact on your useabable space.
Unlock Extended ROM
But what should I do when I need add new programs to extended rom. My Extended ROM is write protected

You should do a search on Wizard extended ROM unlocking. Here and over at buzzdev.

I would also be very interested in this. I have a Wizard that has the T-Mobile 2.26 ExtROM, which, needless to say, does not have this file. I don't really want to reflash the ExtROM just for this file. Could someone post it or point me to a place that has it?
Thanks!

best way to add files to the ext rom without corrupting your ext rom is this..
Make your own with the files you want, then flash that ext rom... To learn how to do this you better start reading the millions of threads on here
Found what I wanted...
Well, I seem to have solved my own problem. The Certification_Disable.cab file seems to be the same exact thing as Cert_SPCS.cab, which I found through Google. Even if the files are not exactly the same, Cert_SPCS.cab has the desired effect: it removes the prompting when installing unsigned applications.
Since I bet other people need this file too, I am attaching it here (remove the .zip). I am not positive about the origin of this file, but it sounds like it was included in the ExtROM of the Sprint PPC6700 (Apache).
Hey whats up guys, just a curious question I have regarding the comm manager in WM5. When using stock version of WM5 2.26 from T-Mobile on my MDA and using a program called Navizon with my GPS, I am able to calcualte a lot of Wi-Fi Access points and Cell Phone towers using the Comm Manager supplied with the stock. I am talking about, on my regular commute about 400-600 AP's and varied on towers. I have upgraded my Rom many of times with different variations of WM5 and WM6 and also reflashed my Radio rom with many different radio versions, with WM5 stock, customs, and WM6, and each came with a different comm manager than stock, and after doing so I am now only able to gain maybe 7 AP's on my normal commute but Cellphone Towers are good.
So my question is, is it possible to get the comm manager from stock WM5 and install it within any custom roms already to created to see if that really has something to do with why I am not gaining any data while using this program, and if that might not be the case, then what exactly could be the problem when trying to collect the data at all. Thanks in advance.
Man, over 75 views and not a single yest it can be done or no it cannot be done, come on guys somebody gots to know a simple yes or no answer!
Hi,
If you mean the "CommManager.exe" file, yes it can be done.
I'm building my own WM6 rom (orwel based).
As I liked better the CommManager.exe from the Tmobile 2.26 stockROM, I installed it.
Simply extract the file from the CommManager.exe T-Mobile ROM and copy it over to an already installed rom or integrate it in your new rom.
You also might want to tune the Software\HTC\CommManager registry key to make sure that you have 8 buttons on it, instead of the regular 7 of the other roms.

Hey eluth, thanks for the reply man. I didnt realize it was that simple, but a quick question, is their a tutorial you can point me to as far as extracting the .exe file, or do I have to flash rom with stock, transfer over to pc, reflash with custom rom, transfer back over. Basically Im looking for a simpler way of extracting than the above, thanks in advance.
Nice advice!
I've done it!
Great - I see my loving 8-buttons!!!
I would also love to have it again. Can somebody share old commanager.exe and reg. file here?
I changed the key to show 8 and it says "Comm Manager supports 7 functions at most!"
Any ideas?
I guess what I am asking is what is the 8th button for and how do I go about mapping it in (if that's even possible)?

It looks like you have a 7-button manager, you need an 8-button.
Try this: (attach)
(the 8th entry in the registry should contain one default value - "IR", similar to 7 others)
P.S.: do not pay attension on the file size - it's just compressed by upx
Thanks fellaz, hopes this fixes my issue with Navizon.

Thanks for this post! I have been looking for this for months!!!
It did not work for me. It had the same 7 buttons on top of 8 pieces of text. The file size was considerably smaller than my 7 button commmanager.exe as well.

Will that create the button as well? When Comm manager loaded it still had only 7 graphical buttons on top of 8 pieces of text.
I tried and it worked... thank you
cab file for easy install
I didn't test it 'cose I allready have it...
Did anybody tried to install the VOIP.cab too ?
Funny thing is that most users reports registry entry started from 1 but mine started from 0 (phone entry, in WM6 MB edition)? I suggest all not to use cab files, but manually perform registry changes. Adding VOIP button is OK, I don't have error in settings menu I used to have without it.
