which ROM is the fastest in speed (for O2 minis)?
thanks 4 reading!
[edit by V: please try to use a ? for a question, ! for a statement]
2.67.12 is the fastest by far
thanks for reading
i'm joking ofcourse
if you actually spent the time to READ the forum YOURSELF you'd know the answer yourself already....dont be lazy and expect the work be done for you...
rom speed is very subjective anyways as there is no baseline for the standard configurations....some have registry tweaks some dont so it's comparing apples to oranges

You know people come here for advice NOT sarcasm!
I have been a forum memebr form some time and I knwo that when I originally came here I also did not know what was best for my phone.
It was only through the help of curteous members that I managed to understand what was going on.
Save your sarcasm for yourself!
besides my beta rom i would vote for molski's 2.26.. its what i based mine off of... its the fastest i have come in contact with
oooo, looks like i got you mad paul...tough
maybe if you were such a helpful soul you should've concentrated on the original poster's question instead of thread crapping. I was merely suggesting he/she get familiar with the forum as it's a vast wealth of information.
if bachikho would have come in with an educated question which showed some kind of effort i'd be more than happy to help but the OP was obviously meant as an easy way out...or so i see it and i'm entitled to my opinion.
as far as rom's go, bachikho, your o2 mini s is a variant of the htc wizard and as things stand right now i'd try reading about the aku2.3 roms that are floating around. they seem to be the fastest and the most stable at the moment. Molski's and mrclean are my favs. I'm currently running the aku 3.2 rom and i'd stay away from it for now.
I agree with chudy, searching and reading is best. If everyone searched and read the forums, we wouldn't have these same questions being asked over and over. I've CID unlocked, SIM unlocked, registry tweaked, changed many different ROMs on my various Wizard (And Universal) devices I've owned this year w/o asking a single question because everything I needed was found using the search feature, simple as that.
Back on topic; I've tried several ROMs, including some of Summiter's cooked ROMs and the fastest one I've tried is the Mr. Clean AKU 2.3 ROM. I haven't tried some of the latest ones; still enjoying Mr. Clean too much
I disagree with Chudy. There are a myriad of posts and pages to read about the various ROMs and it's not easy, maybe even possible, to work out (without trying them) which ROM might be the fastest from all the information given.
Paul makes a valid point, there is no need to be sarcastic. If you didn't like the question bachikho asked, you could have easily ignored it instead of being so pompus.
Shogunmark's answer was succinct and to the point, as was the last paragraph of DavidT's. Those are the types of answer that we are after.
achick, thank you for the very necessary and beautifully eloquent rebuttal to my reply to the OP. I almost had to whip out a dictionary You adding your two cents to the off-topic thread crapping is appreciated by everyone I'm sure.
in this open forum, everyone is fee to express their opinions. since we're expressing our feelings and emotions cause thats what we should expect from a technical forum, i do warmly thank you again for pointing out the obvious and putting it in one succinct post for us to digest along with your affectionate commentary, all of which has everything to do with ROMs. Way to go, keeping your eyes on the ball! Takes me back to my college psychology class and the pointless discussion sessions (sorry i come from an engineering background)...
now, lets get back on track...since the OP stemmed from the need for speed in a ROM it sure would be nice to establish some kind of baseline testing methodology. Is anyone familiar with any pocket pc benchmark applications? I'm wondering if there is something analogous to 3dmark or Sandra In the Pocket PC world.
Has anyone tried any of the tools listed in the link below?
http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Developer-Tools/Benchmarks/
i think i'll try some of them if there is no de-facto standard already in use and compare my aku2.3 and aku3.2 roms....i'll be back to report back with some results later on (and i promise to stay on-topic )
chudy,
did not mean to rain on your parade. Im just used to all the people on this forum to be very helpful and attentive.
I see that you have in fact been just that after your replies..
Kudos to you!
I am going to try the rom posted by risidoro
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=61997
I also am in dire need to update my phone ROM. I reading everything form Xelecin not cooking any more roms, I think the one above seems to fit the need nicely since it is based off of a Tmobile Rom.
Cheers all.

quick and to the point is all you need... and i do feel that some n00bs feel the need to post the same questions over and over cause either A. they get flamed for answering the same question and never really get a good answer.. and B. because so many n00bs ask the same questions it clutters up the board for doing searches.. its kinda like [email protected] if you do, [email protected] if you dont...
i would also like to mention that there are so many roms on the ftp that finding the one that best works for you is merely trial and error, i cant even count how many different roms i tried before i found one that worked great.. then i grew a set of [email protected] and cooked my own
You could do what I do. . . just go to the rom posts, in the forum, with the many trailing pages of replies. lol That way, you know what problems to expect.

lol.. that doesnt always indicate problems.. in the case of my beta, there hasnt really been any problems, most of it is just extra freeware apps people want.. or little extra goodies that people want for improvement, but nothing wrong with the actual rom itself.. judging by the many posts on mine and the comments of others it seems to be a very fast and stable rom
I think the T-Mobile AKU 2.5 is the fastest ... That's what I noticed when working with it ...
Fast is a relative thing. Some are faster than others but unstable. Others are not quite as fast but more stable. The stock T-mobile 2.26 is pretty fast and rock solid. That AKU 3.x is supposively very fast and, judging by the now almost useless thread, very unstable. So pick your poison. I use the stock T-Mobile 2.26 rom because this is my phone, not an expensive toy waiting to be turned into a paperweight, and what good is fast when it resets on it's own every 10 minutes?
I have been using the risidoro ROM for several days now and I really like it.
has a ton of great features built into the ROM that I normally would have to install myself.
I have tweaked a few things and I have to say that my phone boots much faster now and also memory use is MUCH better than before due to his registry tweaks to offload mem usage to the SD card.
I recommend it!
I have also been using the risidoro custom rom, and it does marvles for me. And he is always checking the thread to help a fellow noob out.

I just got my Cingular 8125 in the mail today, and before I load anything on it, I want to update it.
What are some of the reasons to move to Wm6 ROM rather than a ROM that sticks with Wm5? I want to know not only feature benefits but also technical differences (improvements?).
Also, which ROMs contain the bluetooth keyboard & mouse support still in them?
I've been reading quite a bit, but much of what I'm asking about is scattered, so opinions and info here would really help a lot.
Thanks.
Why dont you read the review on the xda-dev main page?
You could read on little bit before start a new thread, don't you think???

I'm sure it's been covered in a thread but I'm not able to find it so would appreciate someone explaining the following......
Is it possible to flash my bog standard M700 with the latest HTC ROM from their website?
I've been given a copy but I couldn't download it because of the Orange IMEI number would not resolve. Presumably there are no issues due to this and it will work just fine?
Lastly, has anyone written a step by step idiot guide to doing this? If not could someone please reply and tell me? I'm not all that techy with ROMs but can am OK with PCs and registry stuff etc.
Many thanks in advance!!
You're right it has been covered ;-), HOWEVER.....
NO you cannt use the HTC version on the Orange M700, it's just for the HTC branded phones. SO now relax and get a cooked version... Either MUN-RUS OR LVSW's are good. I personally have the LVSW version......
Look for it in the Trinity WM6 forum.
In the first post is ALL the software you need, grab all 3 bits of software, apply them in order as listed in the instructions. And thats it, shiney new WM6 M700.... however remeber after you do this to remake all the MMS settings etc etc otherwise Photo Messaging etc etc wont work BUT on Oranges' web site there is a "me Proof" guide to putting it right ;-)
Thats it, go get'em fella
Thanks, Just out of interest, why won't the HTC ROM work, after all it's still an HTC device!
Being lazy... do you have the link to the post please?
So you found this site, BUT cannt within this site find the Trinity Mobile 6 Forum or read the very first 2 posts in there?
Get a grip ;-)
As for the HTC thing... guess it's to stop people taking thier software off them and using it elsewhere, and all the troubles that entails with licsencing etc, ALSO dont forget Orange "Value Add" to the phone (brand the day lights out of it ;-) )
Yes found the link!! Just didn't think it was that obvious so wasn't looking at the top! Dohh!
What's Value Add?
Can anyone point me toward instructions on how to extract or backup my exiting Orange M700 ROM in can the upgrade goes pear shapped?
Still a little confused as to why the HTC ROM will not work. Can someone explain properly please?
It is all explained on the forums if, as deech says you "get a grip"
Do a search.
The reason upgrading will not work is mentioned in this the upgrade forum if you look. If you can't even look for it I'm not sure you'll understand the information though as it would involve thinking.
The way to backup a rom is also mentioned in this forum. In fact if you could be bothered to search you could quite easily find one that's already been made by one of the members of this forum in this forum section. It's even on this first page of this upgrade forum.
I don't quite agree with Deech though. I say you should get off your lazy arse and actually look for the information you want rather than just expecting everyone to point out information that's right in front of your eyes if you just look.
Sorry to flame but it drives me nuts that people can be so lazy and expect everyone else to find the information for them.
Value Add..... all those shiney little things that Orange and Vodafone etc add to the basic software, Like the WAP portal, Today Pages, etc etc, a straight HTC ROM (or Nokia, or Motorloa) ROM is very plain and boring, but often works sooo much better than that provided by the Mobile Company after they have "tinkered" with it, hence Value Added.
I agree though you shouldnt be re-flashing your phone if you cannt work the search button and read and FULLY understand what the hell is happening, and how to make things right IF they go wrong ;-)
If you know ehere something is it take 10 seconds to actually be helpful and tell someone whos asks in a polite manner!!
For example you would have trouble finding the difference between a half inch Whitworth and a half in UNC bolt!! I, on the other hand could tell you in less then 10 seconds.
Thanks for all your help!
Excuse me all overe the place BUT... I've just trawled through here and can't find anywhere that says the M700 cannot be flashed with the latest Trinity ROM from HTC, and the reasons why.
Am I right?
Here's what you do. Download the official HTC ROM and try flashing your phone with it, then you might actually believe us when we tell you that you can't flash your phone with it. The official reason that you can't use it on your phone is because your phone isn't actually an HTC phone, it's an Orange SPV M700. Or so they'll have you believe.
I understand the difference between a half" Whitty and a half" UNC. One's a Whitty and one's a UNC, easy
Read the forums, then ask questions.
Peace,
BS...

Hi m8, Looks like you're in need of a little friendly advice, so here goes!
Despite what they're all telling you in this thread, you *CAN* quite easily flash the latest HTC Trinity ROM to your M700... You will first need to unlock your phone OR use the SoftSPL method described in this thread:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293632
Unfortunately, you will need to educate yourself a little to achieve what you desire and this means READ and UNDESTAND the above thread before you attempt anything!
All the ROM's you could ever wish for are available through this site, here :-
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Trinity_Upgrades
To be even more helpful, the HTC ROM you require is here :-
http://rapidshare.com/files/2296300...1_1_.23.405.2_103_6275_1.38.00.11_108_GPS.exe
(Looking at one of your other help question threads, it looks like you don't know how to download from Rapidshare, you need to go to the bottom of the above linked page and click the "FREE" button, then choose your download site from the page that follows... enter the security key as shown and dah dah.... a download!)
If you need any further help then PM me, rather than filling up this thread any further!
I hope this helps!

Happy to help, but you ask a question I answered it.
As for showing off about Whit / UNC threads..... dont judge books by thier covers, in real life I am a Marine Engineer serving on some of the largest container ships ever built in a very senior position
Now please please take the time to learn about your phone, read all the fora here, and sort out what it is you want to do. And happy flashing once you pop you cannt stop
LOL. is all I can say. You haven't got a hope in hell.
You CAN'T flash the HTC to an M700 because it's locked to Orange. (Similar to a sim lock... Need that explained? Or can you search now??)
Unlock it and you're laughing. (As Mozzer says)
When I posted last, less than 5 posts below yours asking about backing up the rom was the post containing the last link Mozzer has given you, as I said it was even on the first page of threads, not far to look. A forum search for M700 would have shown it immediately.
Backing up the ROM is much harder than flashing it so would have been out of the question for you.
As for UNC and Whitworth. All I can say is congratulations. You, like pretty much all of us (if not all of us) here, also have knowledge in other fields.
I won't bother trying to make myself look big by quizzing you.
I have to admit I have very little knowledge of these devices and am forever endebted to the members of this forum for the information that is shared here and the work put in by many. The difference between you and me is I don't demand it on a plate.
I can use the search engine and look at Stickies. They're stickied for a reason! That reason is either to warn you of forum regulations OR because they are important.
It's not that hard to look in the Trinity subforum and at the first topic which is a link to the Trinity Wiki. (U know what a wiki is? Or is that not of interest as it's not UNC?)
In the Trinity Upgrading sub forum:
5 posts below this (probably seven when I submit this) is a thread entitled:
Moz's RUU_Trinity_Orange_UK_1.23.61.5_1.38.00.11_GSM_NoI PL_NoSPL.exe
Hmmmmmmmmmm. Wonder what that is..... I admit it's a tad convoluted. But you know you have a trinity which is badged by orange.
Third sticky down is entitled:
SSPL (or flashing any ROM 4 free)
Can't think what that's about. I want to flash my M700 with HTC branded.. Could this help? Naah I'll just save time and get everyone to do it for me.
In the Trinity Mobile 6 forum:
First 2 Stickies.. Wonder what they do. Won't bother looking.
Can anyone tell me how to wipe my arse. I've lost the ability to see and use my hands.
In my last post if you look I gave you some clues as to where you could find what you wanted. I'm on alot of forums and people who can't be arsed to have a look for themselves piss me off. If you'd looked and said I've found this that and the other but I'm not sure about it could someone help explain please I'd have done what I could to explain. But you couldn't even do that!
Many Thanks MOZZER!
At least there is someone here who has taken the time to be helpful.
So Deech... what is the difference i between half inch Whit and UNC?
Hi Mozzerr!
As you were kind enough to help with sensible answers could you please advise on the following:
I feel that the Orange ROM on the M700 seems a bit shaky and the GPS take forever to make a cold start... just a gut feeling it's probably the ROM hence the view to flash it.
In your opinion are there any major advantager to WM6 over the HTC release. I don't use 3G stuff or other advance comms mail etc. just the Phone, Active synce stuff, MP3s, Camera and TomTom via the GPS?
What would you do?
Ah now a sensible question.
WM6 is considerably faster than WM5 when it comes to loading menus and programs (and as far as I've found is completely stable).
There currently appear to be a few people who have a battery drain issue, which I for one have not had and should be ironed out soon.
If you use tomtom there is a cab somewhere (I forget where) in the Windows Mobile 6 forum called ATIfix.cab which fixes the freeze issue (if you get it).
If you're going to go to WM6, which I personally would recommend, you can always flash back to the HTC flash if you don't like it.
TBH other than speed for what you've listed as items you use it'd be more about the look and feel of it, so try both and go with what you're happier with.
I hope that helps.
Just remember you loose all the Orange Branding when you flash, so "IF" you find any of it remotely useful it will disappear, including settings for MMS etc.
The Tom Tom Freeze thing seems pretty common, mine idi it big time, but everything else is nicer, faster and smoother.
WM6 is..... nice and well worth it
There is a cab on the forums with all the MMS setting on this forum. I think I linked relinked it somewhere in the Mobile 6 forum, plus some people have extracted several of the orange programs and posted them.
Hello everyone. As you can probably tell I am new to this forum. I recently bought my first PPC (Tilt) and I am thoroughly happy with my device (thus far). Seeing how I am new to this genre of phones. I decided to surf the internet to see what kind of info was available for my new toy. To make a long story short, after I surfing the internet and visiting many different forums. I noticed the XDA or XDA developers being used frequently. So I decided to do a Google search which directed me here. I must admit I am thoroughly impressed by this forum (website) and plan to be a contributing member. I have learned so much about the capabilities of my phone. You guys are really amazing. Which leads me to my problem? I am having a difficult time understanding the verbiage being used to describe the various different upgrade features being discuss on this board. All That being said I have some question I would like to ask. But first I have decided to condense my questions on one thread as to make it easier for other interested parties as well as for me to find. However feel free to direct my question or to add a link that can answer my question at your convenience as I know many (if not all) these question have been answered in other threads (sorry remember I am unfamiliar with all these new words).
1)Is there some sort of getting started manual that I can used to better understand the various different words being used on this forum?
What does flash, cooking, roms, etc mean?
2) I would like to get rid of all the ATT stuff (for a lack of a better word) that on my phone and upload all the high speed HTC stuff.
I would like to do this in hopes of increasing performance as well as to have all the programs and features that where meant for the TYTN 2. If one could list the steps or refer me to the link that could do this it would be greatly appreciated.
3)How does a person find out about the various different applications or program that are available for my phone?
This would be of great interest to me. In particularly when it comes to music and radio stations. What is the best music/media player available? What is the best program to listen to various radio stations? And what site can I use to research this stuff?
4) Lastly I am really interested in all this voip stuff (Skyp, Google talk, etc). It would be pretty cool to use the internet to make phone calls instead of paying for daytime minutes. How would one go about doing this? Am I to understand that I can used my phone exactly the same way but through the internet?
I wanted to take the time to thank those who answered my question (and those that didn’t) as well as to developer of this board.
Thank you

No manual - you learn from osmosis.
I am pretty new around here as well... but a long time lurker...
So - to help as much as possible - here is a quick answer to your questions:
Flashing is when you overwrite / rewrite the firmware. It is the method used to put different ROMs on your device.
Cooking is where you create a custom ROM image - so it comes customized with whatever the chef puts on it.
ROM - think of it as an operating system image that is transfered from your computer to your device.

This site is chalk full of information about these kinds of things: Kaiser is pretty new - so hit one of the other forums under XDA. Software sitting on top of the OS should be pretty standard... ;-)

Kinda. But not as well. Data connections are more prone to dropping than voice calls.
It is cheaper to call internationally though... ;-)
So if you have a good connection and you aren't moving... it is a great alternative.

yeah, a glossary of terms would be great. as I read more it makes more sense and I find myself searching some of the terms online. be nice to have somewhere with meanings of WWE, SPL etc mean.
Welcome to the board. I would recomend reading all the wiki's that are stuck in each section and also the search button will bring many many threads on all the questions you have asked. Try this one to get you started. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser Good luck
d
I'm in the same boat as you. I read through the posts here and found them really helpful, especially the stickied ones about flashing ROMs.
The best way to get rid of the AT&T stuff is to flash your ROM. Flashing your rom to the HTC-rom will wipe the AT&T bundled software and replace it with the set that comes with the TyTn II (although no TomTom).
I've been trying to find answers to some of your questions too (especially where to find good software and media players), so I'm looking forward to replies from the older members.

WWE: World Wide English
SPL: System Programming Language (my guess?)
Welcome to the forum, i am also new. As to your question of what is the best media player, it is TCMP, it plays almost everything (even .flv files!) but support has been discontinued because the ppl made it a commercial product...mind you very tech savy ppl are still continuing support for it and adding codecs and stuff.
to download it and some codects, go to this website:

Hope that helped
Thank you. I can understand that some question may too broad to answer in this thread. I understand that alot of my question are answered in other threads and for this I appologies.
The the reason I ask those question is becuase I do not understand the language being used. I have read (reread) the stinky under the kaiser upgrades tabs but still do not understand what exactly it is saying (or what it is supposed to do).
While I agree most of my other questions can be answered in other threads it would be of great help to me if someone could explain in greater detail to me my question number 2 which I have reprinted below.

You guys are great, I can see a sprite of sharing and helping in this forum. Again, you guys are the best, especially thanks to Daniel.
I bought a Chinese unlocked version Kaiser in Hong Kong, and I found out that it is not that convenience to me even though I can read Chinese. With Chinese Windows, it runs very slow. I decided to flash the ROM with HTC standard English ROM.
However, because of warranty issue, I need to backup the Chinese OS ROM, and restore it to its original setting if in case I have to take it back to HTC for repairing.
I am totally new to PPC or WM devices (I used to be a Palm lover), I wonder if anyone of you can tell me how to "Backup" and "Restore" the ROM. Detail instructions will be highly appreciated.
Sorry for my stupid questions, but I really don't know how. Whether I get the instructions or not, YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!
Hi all firstly great forums, secondly i am a complete tard when it comes to technology so be gentle please..........
Ok i just recieved my Diamond 2 and i was wondering if you could help me with the basic upgrades i should get right away before i do anything with it ie 6.5, ROM stuff etc bear in mind i havent a clue about these phones as it is my first new phone for along time.
Also which memory card should i buy for about £20...£35 i want an 8-16gb, do i need to get a micro or normal size ? a class 2, 4, 6 make website i could get a decent trustworthy one from the uk.
The phone is from London and sim free if that helps.
So is there any upgrades that are a must or i should definately get before i start playing around with it.Would like a really nice looking OSrom if poss and not complicated as i will only really use the basics atm GPRS Sat Nav Tom Tom etc. Also a radio Rom ??
The upgrades on HTC site there is a big list do i need to DL and install all of these or ? http://www.htc.com/europe/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=249&act=sd&cat=all

Is there a place to get the full free is it a good OS (SPB-Mobile-Shell 3.5.1)
A small list of things i should DL would really help me.
As you can see im pretty clueless so any help would be really appriciated.
Thanks in advance for any replies and for your time.
Peter
First of all... welcome.
Start reading the stickys in section "Topaz ROM development". There you find threads for ROM and radioROM.
You need micro-SD cart. I'm sure it's in the manual... Speed of it isn't that important if you don't gonna transfer movies and so every day...
You don't need to install all the updates if you go directly for a new rom.
SPB is shareware, so no free ones. But I think you can try it for free some days.
One last thing... reading, reading, searching, searching and don't open several new threads with probs...
Happy flashing...
