Hello all,
First off, sorry for the long post, I'm sure it won’t happen again. I'm new to the forum & Cingular 8125. I had a Treo 700w for about a week but I got rid of it because of ActiveStink & Verizon's poor service in my area. Now I have a shiny new Wizard and am anxious to get it all dialed in. So far I have not purchased anything for it except the Plantronics 640 BT headset & BoxWave screen protector. I'm in real estate now, so I'm in car a lot and plan on getting TomTom5 & a vehicle mount. Easy access to call & e-mail contacts, hopefully sorted by FIRST name and using my own custom Outlook forms would be GREAT! Is this available anywhere?
 I guess what I'd like from experienced users is a brief list of really basic useful software & accessories that have been proven to work by you. Just basics, like backup, contact mgmt, SD mini cards, SmartKey(?), etc. In my brief Treo days I found a really useful thread on a Treo forum ( http://guide.treonauts.com ) that really helped me plan & budget for stuff I might add to the device, and it would be really cool if forums WM users could have a similar thread....maybe this can be it?
:?: Also, I've been reading a lot of threads about custom ROM updates here, which seem to be helpful to a lot of you, but it sounds like there may be a new "official" ROM from Cingular released soon, so I am not sure of whether I shoudl update my ROM right now. I don't work for a company with an Exchange server, so I just set my e-mail acct to check IMAP every 5 minutes. SO, the only feature I really want is voice dialing over BT. Is that (A2DP) part of the HTC ROM with radio vs. 01.16.11?
Thank you all, I really appreciate your feedback!
Voice Dialing via Bluetooth can be accomplished with the shipped ROM.
If you are happy with Cyberon voice dialer then you're already set, just record your voice tags.
For real voice recgonition, buy Misrocost Voice Command and find the Cab file or Registry Hacks you'll need to hi-jack the button ffrom Cyberon )posted many times in these forums).
For me the reasons to flash one of the 2.0 Roms: speed, stability, inproved battery life.

Couple of questions about voice-dialing in WM5.
I purchased MS Voice Command 1.5 and loved it on 2003SE, but:
1) Does it work with the latest WM5 ROMs?
2) Is there a way to initiate a command from a BT headset?
Not concerning MS VC:
3) What other options are available, and what are the best?
Thanks!
1. At the moment MS Voice Command 1.5 does not work in the new WM5 AKU ROMs (at least it didn't last time I tried!!)
Once you install the app it runs once then states there's been an error and refuses to run again!
2. Within WM2003SE if you have the A2DP profile set with your headset (assuming it's stereo?) then you can initiate a call/command via BT, I used it quite a bit...
3. Alternatives are the following:
Cyberon Voice Dialler (I don't like this as you have to record all the voice tags as there is no speech recognition engine.
VITO Voice2Go/VITO VoiceDialler (I liked this in its previous incarnation but haven't tried the new version with 2K3 or WM5)
If you search the forum for Voice Command you'll find plenty of threads about getting these apps working, and working with BT...
Thanks for the response. I'll search the forums and see if there is anything else that I can find.
FYI, I just have a headset that supports handsfree (Jabra JX 10).
I love cyberion voice commander just becaues it doesn't make all the voicetags itself. I think this is why the device is called a pda with the P for Personal, everyone his/her own opinion.
Since english is not my native language and voicecommander always want to make it sound as english it's not good for me.
And suggsjc i love your signature "If the world didn't suck, we would all fall off..." . I borrowed it several times now to friends of mine, interpreting it as a positive thought
Well I guess to each their own. I (P)ersonally liked it having all of the tags created for me. I could find a contact that I rarely used (and wouldn't have created a tag for) with just using voice commands. But having the choice is a good thing.
Despite the glitches with some software in WM5, overall I am very pleased. Much nicer and more refined than 2003SE.
Glad to hear that my sig is popular
Hi all,
I've just ordered the HTC TYTN II with Orange in the UK. The phone is going to arrive on Tuesday and I thought I'd take a moment to work out what I'll need to do when the phone arrives.
I've had a little play with the phone in an Orange shop and I've concluded that the Orange firmware isn't very good. As a result, I think the first thing I'll need to do is flash the firmware with a generic one? I've never flashed one of these phones before and this'll be my first Windows Mobile device, if anybody could point me in the right direction it'd be great.
After that, what software should I be aware of for the device? It'll be handy if you know what I want to do with the phone and why I've chosen it.
I use my laptop a fair amount, but it's not always feasible to have it with me. As a result, I'd like the TYTN II to do some of my work on the go. I'll need it for:
Accessing work e-mail from an Outlook Exchange server and personal mail via POP3
Some sort of calendar, preferably one that I could sync to Outlook or Remember The Milk. I don't currently have a good calendar solution and what a means to have a calendar on my desktop, laptop and mobile. All of which need to be synched! Something that'll eleviate the need for a paper diary.
Web access, I need to access sites quite often, is the default browser any good? I don't have a mobile internet plan unfortunately (Orange don't seem to offer anything good, no mobile broadband, so I'll be using wi-fi access where I can).
Those essentially are my main requirements. If anything, I want the TYTN II to be my personal planner. Want it to have all my notes, calendar items, tasks, e-mails etc in one place and want those items to also sync to my desktop and my laptop.
Thanks in advance for any advice, I'm excited about getting the phone, just another 2 days to wait!
Sorry to sound like an a**, did you ot notice the rules, and the 5 stickies in the Kaiser forum? Just use the search functions, XDA is flooded with topics such as yours.
"where should I start?"
Ummm, here's a good place. Start reading, don't flash any roms for a while just play with the tons of Cabs and tweaks for starters, and there are a TON.
Have fun.
i have an at&t tilt and i want the htc today screen, possible or not?
Yes....
Read.... Been asked and answered many times....
Hint... Check out Flashing a new Rom
sry i dont know much im a SUPER noob
in other words... ROM?? FLASHING?????
Well I won't get into ROM's and Flashing (incredibly large topic), but regarding the HTC Home Plugin, try the attached.
P.S for future reference, I searched for "HTC Home Plugin" to find it..
def flash a ROM to improve your performance x 1,000 compared to stock AT&T ROM.
Will be SOOOOOOOOOO much better!
Yup, I flashed a new ROM on my tilt, and the improvement in performance is amazing. I wasn't sure I was going to keep the tilt because it was unbearably slow and kept freezing up. Now it's fast and fun! I used Alex's home ROM, which worked out great for me as a noob. He included all kinds of great software in that ROM, including HTC home.
New Flash
Did it kill your Push to Talk? I was told by AT&T that it will kill the Push to Talk function.
Why would anyone want to use PTT when it's only for other AT&T customers. Are we the only one's with free mobile to mobile minutes? Seriously PTT sucks. Besides, I think there may be a cab around somewhere.
Why use Ptt
When I am waiting for our passengers to show up, I can make one statement to my crew that the people have arrived instead of calling the Copilot that is in the cockpit, the Flight Attendant that is in the Galley, and the Mech. that is out servicing the airplane. A real help. I will keep looking for the CAB. work around. If you find it please list it here.

Just copy over the PTT files needed from \windows and migrate the registry entries. I did it and it works fine on Alex's ROM. I just had to manually associate the PTT button with the program.
sorry being a noob
sorry for being a noob, but wil the link to the rom flash work for my UK Orange TyTN II?
Hey!
One thing that I find lets my T-Mobile Vario III down is how rubbish Bluetooth services are.
Can anyone recommend anything to help amend the following...
Speed of Sending - According to ObexInboxEx I receive files at around 90kbp/s and according to RESCO I send at around 20kbp/s anything to solve this?
Every time I send a file, I have to search for users, on my Alpine, paired devices came up instantly, anyway to correct/solve this?
I was able to set a bluetooth reciepient's nickname, can I do this now?
Maybe there is a piece of software that does these things or a ROM?
My ROM is Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid (Latest Vers.)
I also run RESCO Explorer 2008 and ObexInboxEx.
Hope you guys can help me out!
Thanks,
Joe
Well... after doing some reading and watching a couple of you tube videos on the diamond I decided to have a play. I picked up a new boxed locked to orange uk htc diamond from fleabay for £160 inc postage... bargain I thought.
Things I've already done..
The first thing was to get it unlocked so I can use my O2 sim in it. This cost £14 via a site on here.. donation I believe goes to this site. I did download some unlocks via torrents and newgroups but at £14 (15 euros) and knowing the moneys going to someone who deserves it.. I decided to pay + its very simple and straightforward to do. Within 5 minutes I had a working phone on O2 ;-) Huzzah!
Then I sync'd it to my outlook that my iphone uses so I then had a full copy of my current contact's. I have added my email on imap4 to sync every 5 minutes.
Software wise I downloaded tomtom 7.910.9185 VGA Black and some Western Europe 1GB 815.2024 maps and 'got' them working (I already own 3 tomtom devices so I figured they have already had enough money off me for now). uploaded the latest uk speedcam files which I pay for from pocket thingy site and postcodes for good measure. Just tried it on the way to work and got a lock in under a minute which is very acceptable. This is a big plus in my eye's for the HTC over the iphone.. anyway.
Speed improvements - I then found some posts and a little you tube video on how to speed up the touchflo. There were three things you do in your settings (disable beams / disable quick menu on today screen and something else). I then downloaded the advanced config software from here and adjusted my memory cache / filter .. WOW what a difference doing this made.. major improvements !
So then whats next ? I used to use facebook alot and share prices so need to find some apps for them.. but I really can't believe I'm thinking about giving up my iphone...
Are there any apps or things that you could recommend to improve this phone anymore ?
Steve
Not sure if you know this but the diamond 2 has a new version of TFLO and XBOX and friends are trying to port it over to the diamond. Everyone and anyone who owns a diamond and knows about this is waiting patiently for this.....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486471
Before changing ROM's or Radio's a HARD SPL is required to protect your device from being bricked.
Read the basics of upgrading here....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211
If you are just looking for simple upgrading, like APP's the here.....http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=441
Just read as much as you can.
UDK has a facebook built in to his ROM!
there is a bbc iplayer which works well you need a copy of coreplayer to use it tho! just search for it
there are pleanty of other useful apps here
flashing a cooked ROM is better any number of tweaks on a standard ROM !
thanks fellas for the advice
I stuck on HardSPL 1.43 and decided to have a play with one of the rom's.. after lots of reading I decided to try v6.4FullHDTFl .. this rom seems to have a good following and I am very impressed with it so far.
would you say this is a good choice ?
I have also seen all the porting work being done on from the D2... looking forward to an updated rom for that.. I have noticed you can download cab files for apps from the D2 would you advise on any for my current rom ?
top forum.. been a member for 5 years.. lol really pushing my posts this year.. lol
Steve
yeah thats i how i choose my ROMs ! the ones with the most followings are usually the better (i think). i personaly am a UDK follower although i have tried almost all other roms, some of which are as good
