WM5 on HARRIER - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hi!
I made a lot of searches only to find out that my BLUE ANGEL is not upgradable because of the radio firmware (PPC 6600 Sprint HARRIER PH20A2 firmware upgraded to 2.07.00).
But I was wondering, since it was given to me and I don't use the phone at all, is there a way to upgrade to WM5 without upgrading/activating GSM? I really don't mind loosing the phone capability of my PDA since I really use it only as a PDA.
Thanks

I don't think it will work, you may destroy your device this way

it may work, it may not. do you want to risk it?
edit: i remember seeing a topic about this earlier this week, apparantly it worked but the phone part didnt.

hej
I also would to upgrade Audiovox XV6600 to Windows Mobile 2005. Maybe this rom whith Verizon radio will be good: http://www.utstar.com/pcd/downloads/HA_VZW_207_111_01151_SHIP1.exe
Who try first? ;-)

i was waiting just for it..... yes yes someone please try it...

Not likely to work
The Harrier is strictly CDMA only no GSM, I have one that i disassembled to steal the Camera so i saw the inner workings of both devices. The Blue Angel (my actual phone) is GSM only, the radios for both devices are not innerchangeable however i may point out that the camera is without flas anyways. As far as upgrading the OS, on that device i wouldnt know how to begin on that subject.

I would think the only hope in this area is to research porting the PPC-6700 rom over to the harrier since it is also a CDMA device.. I believe I read that you can flash one of the WM5 BA updates to your harrier but upon starting up it mentions something about no GSM hardware and restarts itself...

Wizard/Cingular WM6 Qestion

I hear all the talk about WM6 upgrade that will probally be released by cingular officaly for the 8525 only not the 8125 (Wizard)
I also have heard that the T-Mobile is plaining to release a WM6 update for their verision of the Wizard (MDA I beleive). Is it possible to run the T-Mobile upgrade once it release on a Cingular 8125 and still uses the cingular network.
Basicly flash my cingular 8125 with the MDA upgrade and still use cingular to make calls.
T-Mobile is going to upgrade to WM6 on their Dash from what i know, i doubt they will upgrade the Wizard...but if they do, then if your device(8125) is CID unlocked, then sure u can flash it....
Same kind of issue
Hey Malik...ok, i have a MDA (tmobile) and after my friend saw my SNN rom on my phone, she wants it on her AT&T wizard...question is this: so if I can flash the same rom to her phone, will i need a different program for the base rom? basically wanna know where i can find the radio and such for AT&T instead of tmobile..please advise....
thanks/...

Always check the date of the post and thread, then post a question or answer. You are asking to a post almost two years old.
Ok,now to your question,All the wizard devices are the same in feature,Hardware and work on windows mobile. They are all manufactured by HTC for different vendors,so in fact they all are the same,YES! you can flash any rom to any wizard device, regardless of being it from T-mobile,AT&TT,O2 or i-mate.Basic Rom is the same for all the devices ,i.e windows mobile from Microsoft. The procedure/program will be the same as you did for your T-mobile MDA.
NOUP

hahahahaha I got the same here !!!!!!!! hahahahahahahahaha
how are you zabardast?

Interesting news from cingular

I called cingular tonight because i have been trying to get my 750 paired with my tom tom one 3rd edition for use of the weather updates and cameras and such. Through conversation with a support representative, and trying to troubleshoot why it couldn't use the wireless connection of the phone, the representative asked me to check a few things on my phone. While answering some questions, one of which was about device software and such and i told him i had windows mobile 6 installed.
From this point on he led into reasons why i should be using it with out it being released and such which is to be expected. He also stated that doing to much to the phone can possibly make the phone upgradable when the real WM6 update is released. This he mentioned were changing the boot loader, IPL and SPL software in the phone, that and using bogus releases of software. The reason being he said was that the soon to be released update probes the phone deeply because everything has been updated including the boot loader stuff.
Now i cant confirm or deny any truth to these statements but the only thing i had done with mine was a try a few new firmwares but after my conversation with them i quickly reverted back to WM5.
here is a link to get it if anyone is interested in doing the same. Download either or, they are the same. included is the cheeimg.nbh and the cheediag.nbh. the cheediag.nbh wont complete is you have othere that cingular WM5 on ur cingular treo 750.

I think Olipro's response covers the reality of this mighty fine. There's really only one scenario where you could do something and not be able to change or revert, and that has to do with the radio.
If you put a Hermes radio on the Treo, you won't be able to change it ever again until a hack is worked up. The Hermes radio does a bit of authentication with the SPL using a function that is the Hermes SPLs, but not in the Cheetah SPL.
I'm currently stuck in this situation unfortunately..

this is why i am not doing the Hard SPL unlock bit. I mean it is great that someone has the smarts to make this work but honestly it took thousands of man hours and engineers to make these phones and the software in them. I believe honestly software has gotten like the pharmacutical industry, so many side affects and there is know way the one person who wrote this can adaquately predict what will happen on every phone. SOmetimes it is better to just leave alone.
oh and think you guys should post what side affects you know of in regards to using the HARD-SPL. I think a lot of people are gonna be pissed if they used that and cannot get the AT&T update to install on thier phones when it comes out.. I smell some future legal problems here.
Ok I'm feeling a bit dense today, are you saying if I have the leaked AT&T WM 6 rom installed on my Treo it won't be able to update to the official release?
Naw, no one is saying that. You can install whatever updates you want, including future updates. Don't pay attention to folks who haven't been 'round here long or the misguided/misinformed ramblings of a Cingular tech support cubicle jockey.

I suggest you read up on the world of HTC devices (the Treo is made by HTC) to get some helpful insight into bootloaders, radios, OS ROMs, etc. The Hermes upgrading forum would be a good place to start - the Hermes is very similar to the Treo.
The only "side effects" are this:
-the patched bootloader will not allow itself to be overwritten by a carrier ROM update. The patched bootloader is what allows a cooked (unsigned) ROM to be flashed.
-the patched bootloader will let you flash a Hermes radio to the device if you are so inclined. Right now this is a bad move since the Hermes radios have a radio bootloader which requires authentication from the main bootloader (SPL), and this isn't supported by the main bootloader. End result - if you flash a Hermes radio, you'll be stuck with it, perhaps forever.
Palm, HTC, and carriers will always give you a scripted response when it comes to running modified code on your device. Their responses are designed to discourage folks from bricking or otherwise fouling up their device and then running to Palm or the carriers for help. You'll get a clear picture of the risks and realities here on these forums.

yeah i've known for a long time that HTC has made the treo 750 and many others. I'm just not that much into my phone that i wanna know how this affects this and make it do this neat thing.. i just want it to work.
Talk about contradictory...you're mighty confusing my friend.
Anyway, you've happened upon a site dedicated to modifying devices via cooked OS's and patched device code so they can "do neat things". Perhaps you'd find the various Treo user sites closer to your needs...Treocentral is a good one.

Kaiser/emonster in Japan

Hey all. Great site, I'm just learning my way around my kaiser with all of the great info here.
I had a question I hope someone could answer. I am currently using an unlocked Kaiser on Softbank, but EMOBILE came out with the Kaiser also. The emobile kaiser is on 1.7ghz while the unlocked one i have is on 2.0ghz(please correct me if i'm wrong).
I understand popping in a emobile sim won't work b/c of the difference in hertz. So my question is, is it possible to change the hertz to 1.7Ghz w/some sort of software (ROM or radio etc) or is the hertz hardware/chipset dependant?
Thanks in advance for helping out a newbie

htc Japan Rom
Hmmm. I have not been able to flash this rom successfully. I would like to install the original rom now. Does anyone have the original Japan eMonster eMobile HTC Kaiser Rom? It is not on HTC website.
can somebody help me??
i have problem with emobile s11ht.
this device only work on 1700MHz freq.. can it change to 2100MHz??
coz i can't use the 3G HSDPA by now...
You guys need to flash a radio from Emobile. Either flash an OEM rom from Emobile, or a dumped radio from one.
Since it's so new and rare, there isn't any users with that here, yet since you're the only place in the world using 1700MHz UMTS (besides T-Mobile USA's inactive 3G).
is it mean that there still a chance to flash the radio freq to 2100MHz??

If you don't want to be on Emobile's network ever again, you should then try flashing one of the popular roms on the Kaiser ROM forum.
They all will give you 850/1900/2100MHz radio support, but I don't think you can ever go back to Emobile again unless you can flash an Emobile rom/radio again.
How can we dump our Radios and rebuild it again?

Thanks for the hint. I just bought one of these guys 2 days ago. Haven't done so much. Only Hard-SPL it from the Kaiser Team.
It worked with out a glitch. But, before doing the obvious, turning the JPN version to ENU, I need to make sure that just in case I can resotre that piece of machine back to it's condition.
Question is: How can we (there are some people here in the same situation) dump the rom and have it ready for a re-flash?
Thanks for any advice.
We need a Emobile Radio ROM
Well.
I'm kind of getting annoyed. According to what I have read here, there is a bad chance of bricking the phone if we just flash the phone with the aviable ROM's that we see around here.
I manage to know that, since I come from a different background and I usually take the precaution of reading the technical specifications. So, oh yes, Emobile works with W-CDMA in the 1700 Ghz range.
I definitely need to flash this phone to English (or Spanish) but after backing up the Radio ROM.
Now, how about this:
What if, when cooking a new ROM, we don't include the radio in KaiserKitchen?
I mean, when it comes to compile the packages and all that, what if we omit the Radio File?
In other words: If we omit the radio rom config file from the flash image, will a flashed phone will work?
Any clue?
Today I bought my eMonster after reading these forums for a few weeks.
So far here is where I am at:
KAIS140 MFG
SPL-1.0.Olipof
CPLD-8
Radio 1.71.09.01 (Original was 1 63 08 26)
Currently running RUU_Kaiser_WM6.1_ASIA_WWE_3.10.707.1.YK_Test
Obviously these questions will have some Japanese localization but any help would be great.
Currently I can make calls and be heard and hear the other party.
I have wifi and 3G access access.
However the problems I have are as follows.
The camera no longer works. It simply gives me a black screen.
Audio works when sliding open the phone but if I try to run media player the audio then stops working completely.
It seems there were several applications that came with the original rom that are now lost including the GPS program.
Also it seems that although the OS is in English now input itself seems limited to chinese.
Any tips from users who have an Emonster or can point me in the right direction would be great.
Thank you so much for this great wealth of information.

Upgrade my TyTN II to 6.1 ??

I have been looking to upgrade my Tytn II to the latest ROM however I have not been able to get the upgrade it from HTC.

I got lost after reading that bit... I was going to try to upgrade it myself but got confused so I stopped... trying and thought I'd wait till an update was available from HTC...

Exactly! Having been there, done that and decided to go back to WM 6.0, in my effort to help a fellow person from 'down under', I can tell targ that if he uses (or expects to use) Tomtom or GPS at all on the device, he'd better be very patient at waiting for satellite locks under WM 6.1.
Although HTC have improved some of their WM 6.1 upgrades by using a newer Radio, I've tried the latest WWE version and it's still far short of what my original WM 6.0 implementation achieved as far as GPS performance is concerned. Once you upgrade to 6.1 it's quite a task to go back to WM 6.0 (the spl needs reverting too) so I had HTC do that on my device under warranty.
Yup tried reading that...
got lost as to what I need to match to what!!!
Like I said I'm looking for a some help to do this .
I"ll have another crack at it though see if I can make sense of any of it...
Peto01 man what you mean the gps goes crap... in 6.1
Is this only in a few units or every unit.

Have a look at this thread about *hopeless* GPS after 6.1 update
The problem seems fairly widespread with TyTN II WM 6.1 updates. Since the ROM and Radio on your device seem to be from the Rogers network (as listed in the xda-dev wiki), that may explain why the generic HTC upgrade doesn't work for your device (only genuine HTC TyTN IIs will run the HTC upgrade as-is).
If you're just wanting to upgrade to WM 6.1 because it's the latest, you may be disappointed!
Useful!
I was browsing forum trying to see should I upgrade my stock 6.0 ROM to 6.1. Now I am sure that I will wait for couple more months (weeks?) !
I'm inclined to wait until the next ROM and Radio release has been tested/reviewed
I'm inclined to let someone else be the guinea pig regarding fixing the broken GPS. When a new ROM/Radio Combination is released on HTC eClub/Support, I'll check here to see how reports about GPS performance look and then when I'm sufficiently sure it's not still broken, will again jump over to WM 6.1.
Once bitten, twice shy and I don't want to have to get HTC to revert it to WM 6.0 again!

I had the same experience and reverted back to 6.0 roms. BUT I've recently been using Garmins WM6.1 DK3 with radio 1.65.17.56 and the GPS fix is always quick and strong - Works all over UK. This setup may be worth considering.

I want to keep it all official HTC and not have to use hardspl at this stage, besides I prefer the look of the original HTC setup (themes, icons etc) over the customised Garmin DK3. The latest official HTC ROM for the device uses the same radio as you're using and I was far from satisfied with its reception instability compared to the old WM 6.0 setup. I've sent a letter to the big cheese at HTC so will wait and see what happens!
Flying Kiwi,
What do you mean "Rogers network" (WTF) I bought a HTC Tytn II from a Retailer. surely this is not a fake HTC??
Should I be looking at taking it back?
Does this mean I don't have any Warrenty?
This would be why HTC said that the Upgrade is not a suitable for my unit... going by the S/N!!
What am I to DO now.
As for the GPS issue some seem to be having no real issue with cooked roms.
AS I live in Australia would I need to get a diff radio then say you in the UK?
I"m rather intrested in the L26 TL ROM of Leo's
And if I understand it correctly I need to
1. run jump SPL
2. then flash the SPL that suits the rom I go for.
3. flash the Radio
4. Flash the ROM I have choisen.
Then hard reset.
IS that right?
or have I got the order wrong or missed a step.
Just trying to make a simple as I can..
Would my location and carrier make a difference as to which SPL, ROM, RADIO I use.
OH yeah !
What Does the R, D, and G mean...
Well, I finally did my first ROM change (to 6.1) and have to say I don't have any problems at all.
I have a T-mobile Vario 3, that although everything worked, I always found slow and buggy.
I went for Sleuths 6.1 V3 ROM, simply because I was a hermes user before and his stuff was always flawless.......and I was proved right again.
It's really simple to do, contains the correct radio (much better than the shipped one), and is really fast and stable. Had it a week and used it intensively - no problems with Tomtom or GPS - the same, if not better than it was before.
I would suggest, if you're not sure which one to go for then try this and see if it suits you.
Ok I tried to use the link in the WIki to the Jump SPL the latest one that only needs you to follow the on screen info..
And well according to the on screen prompts it must be done but as for the unit its self I don't hink so as nothing really happened on it... I"m thinking that the wizard does not like Vista or it does not like Sync Centre.
anyone able to help me out ....
No WTFs reqd after-all

Your Radio (R) is the same as that used by Rogers on their WM 6.0 ROMs. But you're right, I missed the bit about your 1.82 series ROM though so it looks more like you have the 3rd one down the wiki list of HTC WM 6.0 ROMs here and not the first: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs

Not if it currently works as you need it to but you could see what their explanation for why there is no WM 6.1 upgrade for your device yet is. HTC in Australia should also be able to advise you http://www.htc.com/au/about_htc.aspx?id=21840
As for the GPS issue some seem to be having no real issue with cooked roms.

And some are so are you willing to take that risk as a newbie and get stuck with a non-original non-warrantable installation thats not straight forward to revert back to original WM 6.0 if it plays up for you? Pass on the Radios but if history is anything to go by, there are a few different ROMs on that wiki page released for Australia. If you do a bit of searching around here I think you'll find cases of peoples non-Australian purchased TyTN IIs having problems when used there as well. I can't recall what the issues were but there definitely were issues (months ago before WM 6.1 came out on the Kaiser). Perhaps a search for Australia just in the Kaiser General or Kaiser ROM Dev forums may yeild results.
Thanks heaps I'll follow your leads Cheers

WM 6, 6.5 or Runnning Version of Android for CDMA Harrier

Hi, Ive been looking for hours on the web and this site for any way to completely flash my Telstra PDA 2K Evdo CDMA Harrier, I really like it and would just like to use it as a PDA, since CDMA was shut down in 2008 here in Australia (Yeah, I know sad). Any way I would really like to upgrade it to Android or WM 6.5. If I upgraded it to android I would need to still Access the internet through the cradle in order to download apps, since I cant obviously access the net through EVDO and there is no WIFI in this cdma version.
Thanks, any help appreciated.

i don't no ! I think very good!
You sadly can't flash the harrier to 6.5, and the android port seems to have no one working on it, and is useless in its current form. It looks like you're stuck with a PDA and WM2003
Thanks for the reply, hopefully someone might want to port Android to it soon,
Thanks,
Matt
It seems to be the latest version supports CDMA Android why not port them) =
P.S. at the hands of 6600 now udmayu as if his brush.
I would try to port, if I could, I have no idea how to LOL.
Anyway if someone has done it could they post it here?
Thanks,
Matt
Sorry, but the BA development has been going down-hill lately (needless to say, the Harrier never really took off... no pun intended). Android had a few people excited when it was first spotted in the BA, but never got farther than that.
My hope's still there!!!!

I actually have been stalking eBay for a while, for one with just a cracked screen, but still waiting (although alot of CDMA ones with cracked screens are avaliable)
But i really dont need it for "Cell Phone usage(calling etc)", I would just want to be able to use some android apps on it, because im not quite ready to give up my touch diamond for testing yet.

There are a few Linux OSs that will work with the BA such as QTopia, but other than that the Android port never came to becoming real due to lack of developers interested in porting the drivers for it.
actually its a HTC Harier (so its cdma) and what i've heard is that most "os' that have been made for the blue angel dont work on the CDMA versions.
thanks
