Question on Radio update... - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

If I run the radio rom update to cingular 2.25 radio rom on my Qtek 9100 2.17 rom....
Will I lose any stuff on my phone, or will I just overwrite the radio rom stuff, and keep the rest of my programs on my Phone..
EG, is it a "soft reset" with after the reset a different radio rom, or is it a "hard reset" with loss of data..
Can someone please help me???
Maybe a dumb question, but I want to be sure before I end up installing all my old stuff again...

Dumb questions dont excist
It only updates the radio part of your rom.
No hard reset is required!

TNANX...
tHANKS FOR THE REPLY..
I can verify that it only updates the radio rom now, because I ran the update..
All my old stuff is still there...
Super!!!

This is exactly why you see so many messages warning you to read the forum and be sure you understand it before flashing.
Hi,
Of course, I have well read the forum before upgrading, it is not my first Rom upgrade, I used the ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe just like you explained, everything was ok, it told me the romupgrade was succesfull, then I reboot the phone, and there is no radio any more !!!
Do you have a solution to this problem? is there any way to roll back, and re-install the radio rom?

As the Thread on the 2.x Radio Roms says:
These are all for use with 2.x Roms only.
We've had a couple of reports that it doesn't work with 1.x Bootloaders (IPL/SPL Versions 1.x). The good news is that since it doesn't dork your BootLoader if you goof you can still reflash with your original Rom and recover your device.

Cooked ROM without Radio : does them erase currently in place Radio ?

I am about to try cooked ROM as Dutty's, but there is one thing which is unclear.
If I flash a ROM without Radio (as Dutty's..) shall I reflash a Radio ROM also, or is present Radio ROM respected ?
In the first case, where can I download official Radio ROM ? (french one in my case) ?
Forgive me if I have overlooked something, but I have not seen these answer clearly stated somewhere.

Its a good question I will edit my thread when i reach home later.
If you flash a rom without radio ur existing radio on ur device remains intact, only advise is whenenver u flash a new rom always hard reset afterwrads
Thanks for your answer Dutty. This is clear now.
Also, if you flash a Radio without flashing a ROM, so long as you use the Blackstone Custom RUU, the device won't perform a Hard Reset.

Which Rom??

So last night my phone crash and it would not restart at all, something about un-approve software and all it would let me do was Hard Reset, so without a choice I did but forgot to remove the SD card since I was trying to set the alarm to go to bed, lost everything in the card so know I'm back to stock form. My question is with so many Rom's to chosse how to so I ask for a little help. My goal is to update with a new Rom and also update the radio version. my stock rom is 1.14.405.3 (22273) wwe radio 1.09.25.14 and protocol 52.49a.25.26u. Thanks for the help up front.. I will do as much reading as i can in the wiki so i can to this without killing the phone since all I had done before was all with cabs..

Your question is opinionated and therefore a MOD will surely close this thread. To ask the question which rom/radio should I go with opens a whole can of worms as everyone has different views and opinions. Best advice is to go out and try a number of roms and see which best suits you!! As for radio, this depends on your location but generally speaking the latest radio (1.14) should have best reception, battery life, GPS fix etc so I would start with that one or 1.13

how to to repartition the rom

Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade my radio rom. At first everything seems fine but after the upgrade process is at about 30%, I get error no. 114. I think that maybe a part of my rom is broken, so I'd like to change the allocation of my roms. I'd like to have the extented rom part as new radio rom and vice versa.
Is that possible? If yes, how is it done?
thx for your help
PECK
sorry to disappoint you, but no, that is not possible.
start the other way around, do not try to bypass a problem by creating a new one, try solving the problem first. why would the radio rom abort in the middle of the upgrade process?
- do you use the right upgrade tools?
- do you use the right radio rom?
- did you take care of everything else there is about upgrading a rom (bootloader, active sync kill...)?
- are you able to flash another os rom?
...whatever comes to mind when flashing roms, because this problem will not be any different after all.
@ chef_tony:
I've no problem with upgrading the OS or the extented rom! thats why i think that maybe the flash chip is broken!
I tried many different upgrading tools, even one of yours!
I don't know the current language id of my device! Originally it was a german XDA III! How can I check the current language id and how can I change it? is it possible that I have this problem because of a wrong language id?
thx in advance
PECK
i would guess it couldn't have anything to do with the country id, error 114 is radio rom update error.
btw, you get to see the inofficial country id everytime you soft reset the device, and in the bottom right corner it says something like WWE, or GER, for instance. or, when you connect the device and run getdevicedata.exe from the ruu folder, which is done before the upgrade, to show you the "from:" and "to:" numbers.
but: i just got another idea.
do you actually take out the sim card, before trying to upgrade the radio?
is your device sim unlocked?
have you played around with different bluetooth stacks?
have you performed a hard reset before trying to upgrade the radio?
have you tried upgrading the radio from the stock o2 rom wm2003?
ok, that was more than one idea, and downgrading seems like a lot of work, but it is worth a shot. if you spend days flashing (or trying to) over and over again anyways, you might as well try that, would mean 2 extra upgrading sessions, but what is that, like an hour?
oh, and what radio rom does the device have now, stock? or is it a newer one already?
and why do you think you need to upgrade the radio rom anyways? phone not working, maybe the problems lie deeper and that could be why the upgrade process can't work in the first place!
"don't confuse an original symptom with the sickness from the drugs we gave him" as dr. house, would say
hi,
the device is unlocked! there was no sim card inserted during the upgrade; i just tryed with one but I get the same error at 32% progress...
it doesn't work with the original rom, also!
it would be fine if the stock rom was installed, but unfortunately i don't have installed any radio rom whatsoever!
windows mobile device information says that i don't have a radio rom and no protocol installed!
oh, for pete's sake, i'm sorry.
when i asked you about the sim card being inserted, i thought of taking the card out, if you hadn't done before, should have written that. many people have problems when having a sim card or sd card inserted, i didn't want to suggest to put one in! that can never do good, either nothing happens or it gets worse, i really shouldn't have forgotten that.
it doesn't work with the original rom, also!

yeah, but does the stock rom itself work? i mean, the stock rom is a so called baked rom, meaning it contains a rom, an extrom and a radio rom, while the cooked roms here only contain the actual rom, so the os. i mean, you could try and extract the radio from the stock rom and try and flash that. it would give you a radio back! or if that doesn't work either, try flashing the entire stock rom, if that works without problems and then you'd have a radio, it means that your issue is too strange to think about, but still you can delete the extrom again and flash another rom without harming the original radio.
wouldn't that be a step forward?
btw. what radio rom are you trying to flash?
if it is just one, you try over and over, are you absolutely certain, this is for the BA? which version is it? what was the original file name of the exe? where did you get it? have you tried re-downloading it, maybe the file is really broken!
hi,
i tryed many different rom versions, and i'm pretty sure they are for the blueangel!
do you know, where i can get a cooked rom for my xda 3?
first, to be clear about that, as mentioned before, cooked roms consist only of the operating system itself and contain neither a radio rom nor an extrom. so about every rom offered here is a cooked rom. but that won't solve your problem, since, as mentioned, there is no radio included. that is why i suggested for you to try the original radio from the shipped rom, and then the entire shipped rom, to determine, whether the radio rom flashes, when it comes after an nk.nbf rom, which would mean, that from now on, you'd have to "bake" roms yourself, by taking cooked roms and adding the radio, so to not lose it. when you can actually flash wm2003 you can also try flashing other radios with the original BAupgradeut, because in contrast to os roms, there should be no limitations to the radio roms, as far as i know.

[Q] Please explain to me...

Hello everyone and sorry for starting a new thread with so many threads already about installing custom ROMs. So sorry again....
First of all I want to say that I have installed Saturday my first custom ROM.
1. I installed HardSPL
2. I installed ROM (I got an error first time because my usb got diconnected - tricolour boot screen and an error code - could not see it; second time everything worked fine and I have now a new great looking ROM
3. I did not installed Radio.
1st question: Do I have to install Radio everytime I install a new ROM or is it ok if I keep my old Radio? - the phone works just fine.
Second question: Do I have to HardSPL everytime I install a new ROM?
Please be kind and reply to my questions even if it must have been already posted in some thread.
rarely can i answer a question but yours are easy LOL
You don't need to do your radio because the radio you have is untouched by roms.
Likewise if you do a radio it wont change your rom.
Radio's probably will not make much diffrence.
Once you have Hard spl it is done.
You can then flash as many roms as you want , but Hard Spl is just once
No and No.
Thank you guys.
The radio is stored on a different part of the memory then the ROM, so it doesn't get replaced when you flash a ROM (unless the ROM specifically includes it, like the new "official leaked" ATT ROM). And custom ROMs will never include the radio, that I know of.
A newer radio version MAY get you better battery life or GPS reception. But it can be very specific to your geographic location. It your choice whether to update your radio or not, its certainly not required. If you want, you are free to experiment, as you can always go back to the old radio if the new one doesn't work out. The process for flashing a new radio is essentially the same as flashing a ROM, except the actual process if done very fast.
As already mentioned, you only need to HardSPL once. The only way phone will become SPL locked back to factory condition is if you specifically do so using the provided relocker program on the SPL thread (for instance, to return the phone for warranty repair).
