I have a siemens sx66 .When i had 2003 on my phone activesync 4.1 was great. Now that i have wm5 it is so hard to geat them to connect. It will not sync anything. When i have my phone in the cradle activesync on my computer says not connected and the phone says connected. Is there a patch or fix for this problem? Thanks LuXx
Finally got it to work. I had to turn off my zone alarm fire wall when i made the first connection. Now i can turn on the zone alarm and install programs and copy files to and from ppc. If i need to sync contacts then i have to turn off my fire wall. I've tried messing with the settings in zone alarm but nothing i do works on syncing with my fire wall on. Hope this can help someone.Thanx
I have the same problem. But I have no firewall installen on my PC. My XP SP2 firewall is disabled.
I have tried uninstalling, and installing Active Sync 4.1 but still the same. No syncing occurs, ActiveSync says not connected while mye Blueangel says connected.
Strange thing is, that if I connect over IR I can sync my phone. Just not with USB. I have both a cradle and a loose cable and none of them work.
Beside the firewall, check your network interface. ActiveSync 4.x will create a virtual network interface when a WM5 device is connected via USB. Check all the items (Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Printing Sharing..., and TCP/IP) of the virtual NIC.

Did you look in Wiki..?
Hi All,
After all the common problems that you describe did any of you look in Wiki..?
Here's what's pasted about WM5 and Active Sync:
Wiki said:
Desktop and Acivesync 4.X
I can't sync my WM5 device now that I have upgraded.
This seems to be the case with some users and not with others.
One user reports that it works on his laptop but not on his desktop.
Firewalls are a known problem (PC-Cillin 12).
Otherwise you need to search the forums.
It seems that in some configurations Activesync does not sync some data with your Desktop PC.
Data that could be affected
Contacts
Calendar
E-mail
Tasks
Files, Notes and Favorites can sync OK. ?AvantGO Connect could sync OK. In such case check you have an Exchange connection on your desktop Outlook application. If that's the case, you should sync your device having a live Exchange connection first. After that, you should synchronize "offline" (i.e. without Exchange connection) without problems.

I'm having the same problem. But with wireless..... ANY IDEAS??
I have been using recently the Kaiser but having two major issues which I can't solve however I've been using windows devices for 4 years now.
1. The activesync just stopped working via usb. No computer recognizes the device, and can't get it to work via usb however it charges the phone. I have tried with several PCs and cables, without result. The strange thing is that I have used the activesync via usb for months but it suddenly stopped working... In the activesync the schedule menu is always unavailable no matter it is connected (via bluetooth) to the pc or not.
2. When I bought the gadget I've disabled the directpush feature somehow and now I can't get it to work. I used my gmail account with direct push but felt no use for it but now I would be glad to have the push feature on. The push button is always unavailable in the comm manager and I can't remember what have been disabled to stop the push working.
Please help, am really going out of my mind having these issues and being unable to resolve them.
THX
I had a similar problem just yesterday. I was about to do a hard reset. Instead, I used did a RESTORE from my latest Sprite backup (not connected to PC). I also uninstalled ActiveSync 4.5 from my PC then reinstalled it. My laptop rediscovered the Tilt. I had to set up a new realationship but it worked.
In my case I have a private email pushed and my Exchange Server email pushed. My Exchange Server email was not getting pushed. At first ActiveSync on my Tilt was in a continuous sync mode, then it failed and wouldn't open (on the Tilt). Then I couldn't get the Direct Push icon active in CommMgr. After the RESTORE, coupled with the ActiveSync reinstall, everything works fine.
I was really upset to have to figure all this out, and all the syncing took time, but it is working. I hope this helps.
Thanx, but unfortunately I have made a hard reset so the sprite backup is gone plus I work a lot on the device and a backup would ruin quite a few important notes...
Also tried the activesync uninstall-reinstall but nothing happend. I think the activesync problem is somehow connected to the missing schedule option on the device...
Any other suggestions?
THX
Got a solution
I also had this problem. Thankfully, I solved it by going to Start>System>Usb to PC and unchecking the box "Enable advanced network functionality" Unfortunately, I dont use Direct Push so I dont know how to help you there.
--Delete--
The advanced funcionality makes no change here. I think I have lost the usb sync feature for ever....

Try installing the rapi drivers...there should be a cab file of that floating around on these forums. The other possibility is you should consider re-installing the USB drivers for PPC/smartphone on your PC. I forget exactly where I got these from but do a search under the "Networking" thread and you may find something there. Final check is does the physical USB port on your PC work for any other USB device? Maybe it's been physically damaged...
THX, I'll try messing with the drivers. However the USB port is fully functional and it charges the phone. I have tried to plug it to other computers, with other cables but the result is always the same: charging but no data connection.
Direct Push is an Exchange thing. I don't think GMail has that feature, only POP and IMAP.
If you set up a new email account on the device and configure it as an Exchange account, I believe the Direct Push icon in the comm manager will be active.
Firewall?
Desktop ActiveSync is a Network Connection. A firewall could be blocking it.

as it fails on any and all computers I think it is not the pc but the kaiser which is wrong...
I just put a 6.1 rom on my Tilt , and everything is good, but for some reason after a little, the Active sync goes from connected, to "last synced at (sometime) " what is going on here?
ideas?
I occasionally have AS disconnect problems when using a USB hub.......might be the case for you as well?
not sure if this is the case or not but check to see if you are connecting to wap.cingular or to isp.cingular, for me I have to be connected to isp.cingular or the connection times out

Seems to be a common problem with the Tilt when not using an ATT based ROM. Thats why I stick to the ones based off ATT Roms. However I believe the 6.1 based Vodafone ROM worked and stayed connected. Hoever for me it was too laggy.
Hello there,
I've been searching around the internet now for about 3 hours to no avail, I have even resorted to emailing HTC for help. Thats how desperate I am.
I have a MDA Vario III (HTC TYTN 2) that has worked flawlessly for a long time (since christmas) but has suddenly stopped communicating with Activesync.
Im not bothered about syncing contacts etc, all i want to do is use the file browser to download and upload photos etc.
I have tried all the suggestions i have found so far (enabling adanced network functionality, disabling it, reinstalling Activesync etc.) to no working answer.
Can anyone help me?
raty
Not sure if you tried this or not. Delete your existing partnership and then reconnect it. Good luck. Activesync sux.
Hey,
I've deleted the partnerships off my vario3, and completly reinstalled activesync. Still didnt work.
Ive taken the phone into the T-mobile shop i bought it from, they seem a little too keen to send it off for repairs, maybe this is turning into more of a regular thing that i thought?
Kept onto the phone just for now, I wnt to try and fix it before i send it off.
Uh... why send it off if you fix it?
read through this thread and look at post #10 and see if your computer is detecting the device at all..
also try removing your simcard and microSD card and connect your device to your pc in bootloader mode and see if it says USB on the bottom.

It's probably the Notification queues have lost their active sync bits
use Pocket IE or Opera (mobile) to download and install something like MemMaid or SKTools
you can then add the Active Sync components back into the notification queues, and then rebuild them
Once done you should be able to sync etc
notification queues! What is that?
First I ever heard of that. I am having active sync issues as well and I have tried everything in this post.
Nothing works, it connected a few nights ago and it all of a sudden stayed connected all night. I am Back to having problems again.
Does anyone know if avast will hurt active sync?
here is your answer...

read thorugh EVERY LINK and you should be good
ive read through those links and none of them have a fix for me.
The computer recognises my phone, in device manager it comes up under Windows CE USB Devices as HTC USB Sync.
i shall try the bootloader idea and report back.
@Kimtyson- if i fix it i wont be sending it off, that would be obsurd
@pjwilkin- i have never come across that before while reading about the titan, fancy sharing some knowledge?
Just got my phone into bootloader (thanks wiki) and when the usb cable is connected it says USB and the computer starts to install drivers etc.
***bump***
sorry thats not proper foru etiquet but im desperate for som answers
Some further things to try
Can you connect via Activesync using Bluetooth? What about on other PCs and on other USB ports on your PC? What happens if you delete that HTC USB Sync listing in device manager, unplug the phone, reboot the PC and then reinstall Activesync 4.5 (I use the CDROM the phone came with the phone for that)? See if you can get the phone shop to plug it into one of their PCs with Activesync or WMDC.If it's showing up in your PCs device manager then it's likely some sort of problem/configuration issue with your desktop PC it's connecting to - not a problem with the phone itself.
this has happened to me ..
i vote for changing usb ports..
you probly already did so..
please post when you fix it..

this cancels out any hardware problems... so do as the previous posts mentioned, its all good advice.
im assuming that all activesync services etc load up ?
I've been putting up with this since I got my Diamond, but now enough is enough
Has anyone experience Activesync disconnecting there device after a random period of time?
The device connecs and syncs - no problems - but after what might be 5mins, or 35mins (randomly does this...), it just disconnects!!
Appears to have nothing to do with charging (could be only partially charged or fully) or actual syncing process. Not a real issue as it still syncs initially and even when disconnects it still charges up from the USB but...this appears to be a flaw with the s/w of diamond or WM6.1 (to me...)
If this is an issue perhaps someone from HTC might read this and note same!
Happens to me too. Not all the time, not often... exactly random, as you said. Quite annoying
I'm sure there can't be just two of us! This happens to me for nearly every connection, the difference is sometimes its in 5min, sometimes 5hrs
BTW, this happens with both my work and home PC......
Surely there are others with this issue???
now i cannot even connect but when i can never it will never doconect except when you turn the screen off
Hi,
I have the same disconnect problem, varies every time.
Looks like I'm not alone... Every 5 mins I need to turn off and on my screen t to reconnect, no matter at home or at office.... you guys are right... ANNOYING
Not sure if this might work but in Device manager > USB Hub properties > untick Allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Thanks will try this {USB Root Hub} as it was actually clicked on....let you know how it goes!!
I haven't got any problem with Active Sync, both with Exchange server and with the desktop Outlook. Are you syncing with XP or Vista? I found Vista is rock solid when it comes to ActiveSync using their Mobile Device Center.

sounds like the device is turning off (not just the screen off)...this will of course disconnect ASync
OK, USB power off is not the issue here as with power manegement off it still disconnects.....
....anyone familiar with asynckiller? Built into SwiftB ROMs and is always running...what does this optimise? Could it be the culprit
Asynckiller the culprit...testing now...
could be getting closer now....I reckon its this Asynckiller built into the ROM
see here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386948
Have shut it down with task manager and see if the sync holds....stay tuned
hey guys i've had the same problem too. the answer to your question is simple: if the screen turns off, the device goes to sleep, the activesync connection is terminated. simple as that. in most cases however, my diamond never goes to sleep mode when in activesync... so if yours does, that's a newer problem
Hi,
I have the same problem with activesync by usb. This is very annoying especially if you have to transfer large files, like maps with TomTom-Home.
It is not the standby-mode which causes the problem. Even without going into standby the connection get loss.
My solution for the problem is to use bluetooth for active sync. I never get disconnected even I stay connected for hours!
I assume it must have to do something with the usb-controller. When I connect my device as mass-storage with my linux computer and transfer much/large files, I can see a lag in transfer after some time. The transfer stops for some seconds and then it goes on again.
Maybe this is the reason why activesync lose the connection
Have ruled out asynckiller....this is not the issue. Brief correspondance with SwiftB and he thinks this issue has been around as long as WM6.1 as been i.e. MS Activsync issue (another one!!) oh so frustrating
I was having this same issue when using a generic cradle I sent off for to sit my HTC Touch Diamond in. I've gone back to the cable that comes in the box with it and suddenly no more disconnections! Are you all using cradles too?
Yep. Have the same problem. Using Vista and 6.1. It wasn't a problem with XP and WM 5, but has appeared with 6.1.
I don't think it is Vista, as it also happens on another machine with XP and 6.1. Also not to do with the power saving, screen sleep or 'phone sleep. I disabled these in turn and the 'phone still disconnects (it does seem to be the 'phone, not the PC - both Vista and XP work fine with two other WM5 devices, although Microsoft is as confusing as ever by saying that AS is no longer required with Vista, whilst selling WM that always requires AS, thus ensuring that AS on the 'phone has to sync with Mobile Connection Centre).
It has got better and worse during the 8 weeks I've had the 'phone - not clear whether this is ROM or application related, as I'm changing so many things at once. Clean ROM install seems to help, but then the problem reappears when all apps are back on the 'phone. Maybe it's not getting a necessary data connection signal from the PC? I'm running it from a Dell M1330 USB2 port.
