Upgrading thoughts - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

HI all
I have recently bought a XDA 2s, with the original Widows, on my xda 2 i upgraded to WM5.
I just wanted to know is it worth doing on the XDA 2s, are there any issues, and which rom shall i install, as there is soo much stuff to go through and i dont know which one to go for,(if any ), or should i stick with the original windows
Cheers
Neel

First of all you have to understand that there is no official operator WM5 rom, every WM5 rom is created with hard development by knowledgeable users in this forum. So it is possible wm5 to have bugs. IMHO the best and bugfree rom for now is Ivan v4 R3. The next best will be TuMa 1.5 when it is released.
WM5 is a little slower than WM2003SE, but it is more stable. So if you prefer speed over stability stick with WM2003SE, if not go for WM5.
And one more thing use radio 1.13 or 1.12 because 1.15 does not work quite well with WM5

Poll: Best WM2005 Rom

Due to the rapid progressions made here which can get rather confusing, it seemed a good idea to poll which rom people feel is the best Windows Mobile 5 rom & if possible, why.
Thanks!
Leo
WM5 ported from Wizard (Version 2a) is the best one
WM5 ported from Himalaya is the best for BA.. Stability, speed, sesponse time seems the best with this rom.

helmi 1.3.2 rom

Hi,
I know that ROM images are not hosted on this website no more because of ms, but I'd like to know where I can get the helmi 1.3.2 rom image.
I'd like this image because I had this rom before and I pretty much like all of it and would like to switch back to this.
If someone has this and or more roms please let me know.
thanks
Yeah.. it's a biatch trying to find the roms now that MS have stuck their nose in.
Did helmi get around to releasing his 1.5? (edit.. hmmm... still seems to be 1.4 b... further optimising, keep it up helmi, if I ever ug to wm5 it'll certainly be your rom I'll use.)

maybe [ this help?]
i took it from here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Helmi
Unfortunately it's not there any more.
The xda devs had to remove their rom library from the server.
So we're all kinda playing hide and seek with the roms.
well, we can grab the name that was used there, and try to find on emule
Well so far I've found this.
http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1053302/?show_files=1&page=1&ref=1178474295#file_list
(Confirmed.. It has Helmi's 1.4 and xplode beta r1 plus a WHOLE lot more. )
And helmi's 1.4 on it's own.

great, nothing is lost for ever
Many people made mirror of XDA FTP server. In any case I keep copy for my own use, if anybody need any ROMs (not only BA).
That's really good to know.. if I need something I'll pm you (if you don't mind. )
One question though... what's the latest most stable and functional wm2003se rom that you have (Xda IIs).
Thx.
for me WM2003 cannot be called stable, especially compared to wm5 for BA. Last wm2003 I used was one of the v1.40 from Imate and it was acceptable, but still ANY WM5 was much more stable.

WM 2005 versus WM 2003

hello everyone!
since two weeks, i am theproud owner of my first pocket pc, a HTC Blue Angel!
i am now running wm2003, but after reading all those posts about upgrading, i am starting to think about doing so myself! but why should i do this?
what are the big advatages of wm2005 compared to wm2003?
are there disadvantages as well? (regarding stability and bugs?)
i would be really glad if yome of the more experienced ba users here could write down their pros & cons for running WM5/WM3 on the BA!
btw: i read thru xplode's upgrading guide (Guide.pdf) and in the end ("side notes") it says, that i could totally screw my ba when i exceed free sectors of the rom while cooking.... what excactly does this mean? and how can i avoid exceeding free sectors?
I am really looking forward to read your opinions about the two os...
THX IN ADVANCE!
krztf
I would definately go for wm5
main reason is the different memory handling
(no more lose of data after battery runs down)
Just download one of the ready made roms versions.
(as I understand, you are not ready to cook your own rom)
and be sure to read the wiki first
(and this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=243732 )
happy flashing
Wout
I could tell you this, my biggest reason to flash my BA to Wm05 because it has a better UI. N my 2nd biggest reason is because a lot of new programs written for wm05
Anyway if you afraid to brick your BA, I suggest you read carefully the wiki n don't use kitchen Rom, just use another rom that already cook by someone else. You could use Rom made by baniaczek or xplode.
I hoped it helps.
Well how should i say... i dont believe anyone here is still using 2003. Would this be enough for you? Try it, if you dont like it, downgrade back to 2003.
WM5 on Blue Angel is nice. But xplode rom and baniaczek rom are not really stable at the moment.
Tried both rom both got different problems... so I recommend you to wait for final release WM5 rom for BA thats free of bug.(Would it happen?)
Else if you wanted to try, you can try upgrading it... its really nice
Main reason is 60mb free ram..
and no more memory lost after battery going down
aha
thanks for all those answers!!!
but to be honest, i am still not sure if i should upgrade or not....
all those postings (here an din other threads) regarding pda overall speed, bluetooth and wifi problems, etc. make me kinda nervous! and i think, i am still anxious about frying my blue angel,... noobish but what can i do!
regarding the advantage of more free ram and no memory loss after battery's empty: is this really true?! always thought, i would need certain hardware as well, to benefit from this features...?
hope this discussion keeps goin'...
regards,krz

I'm using 2003se (rollback wm5->2003), because found some strange problems with baniachek's wm5 bluetooth profiles. ...
all the gory details ....
hi dasboot!
could you please describe those "strange problems"?
btw: does anyone know, if connecting to wlan routers works better with wm2005? as u can read in my other thread HERE, i have serious issues to solve here...
keep on posting!
krz
im rollbacked too.WM5 is nice looking..but for BA useless.
i found that WM3 work much better on it-and more important-the battery time:
wm5=max 8 hours,with mp3 6h
wm3=up to 16h with mp3.normal use 24/36h (older BA )
i use wlan only sometimes on hotspots-and only for e-mails.not a important criteria for me.
but, damn it..i would try out WM6 on it.suddenly it is unable to convert it to BA.
WM5 is not a software, it is one huge BAG!
wm5 is really good and I won't come back to wm2003. I have the R2 by baniaczeck and it works to me like a charm! I advice you to upgrade to wm5

upgrading to WM6, worth it?

does upgrading a cingular 8125 to WM6 worth it?
What are the diferences that you get?
Dont you loose some performance upgrading to WM6 on cingular 8125?
Thanks
I've only updated a couple of days ago, and tried out 3 or 4 diferente ROM's.
I can tell you that the performance is great, better than using WM5.
The rest, you can choose, and try.
Only then can you see if it's worth.
I've been running WM6 ROMs on my 8125 ever since the first one was leaked here on xda. I can tell you -- without a doubt -- there's NO WAY I'd ever go back to WM5.
The device is MUCH more responsive and snappier than it was with WM5. I can't think of more than a couple of times in the past 4 months that I've had it freeze up or hang when running apps.
There's plenty of WM6 ROMs in the Wizard Mobile 6 forum. Just take a look at each one and see what it has to offer. No one particular ROM will satisfy everybody, as each person has their own likes and dislikes. Just read the entire thread for the ROMs you're considering to see if it's the one for you.
I upgraded to WM6 and shortly after: Back again to WM5.
I think you don't really need WM6 because there are only little improvements to WM5. The Speed-up is the same as after a normal Hard-Reset, what is often said here is maybe a "feeled" speed up, it's everything but objective.
What you get from the "cooked" WM6 versions, you can find here, is a different software equipment, which in some cases really can be interesting. But if you really need some, you can install it on your WM5 aswell.
I think you should try and decide by yourself. It's the only way to get a good answer.
I also was running WM6 and am now going back to 5. It was nice, but I had a lot of missed calls as well as bluetooth problems. Try it out for yourself and see if you like it.
wm6
just like newbie I'm using wm6 since then.
only went back one time to wm5 cause i messed up my wizard and wanted to start from scratch.
the speed is tremendously faster than with wm5
about the mentioned missed calls, did not occur to me as yet.

What is best ROM for HTC Herald?

I wan´t to buy the HTC Herald for my girlfriend (I have HTC Touch HD), but she preffers built-in QWERTY keyboard. Can you please tell me, what is the best WM6 ROM for this device. I am looking for stable ROM with minimum 3rd party software addons. Just only clean fresh system, fast and stable with a lot of free RAM (yes, I know, there is only 64 MB RAM totally)
Thank you for all suggestions and good support od "God bless Xda-dev board".
edit: I was found Touch-IT v4.4 and 4.41 WWE P4350 ROM (Lite), which looks really cool. Or is there any better?
if your looking for free space on the herald JustME is prob the best bet. Small as can be....
ok, thank you. I will try
Hi everyone,
a newbie asks for some help:
I've just downgraded my Herald from HTC's WM6 to WM5 with the german/e-plus version from Brightpoint. My reason for this is Navigon's Mobile Navigator 6, which runs on WM5 much more faster and better. But finally, I'm unhappy with the behaviour of WM5.
What's with the posted 6.1 versions? Are there ROMs, which are carefully cleaned up but not naked like "JustMe", perhaps in german language? And last but not least stable releases ;-)?
Thanks for your help,
Chris
There is no real answer to this question as it is very subjective.
This thread gets closed with the recommendation that you read the Rom threads and find the one that has the features you desire.
