What is best ROM for HTC Herald? - Wing, P4350 Herald Upgrading

I wan´t to buy the HTC Herald for my girlfriend (I have HTC Touch HD), but she preffers built-in QWERTY keyboard. Can you please tell me, what is the best WM6 ROM for this device. I am looking for stable ROM with minimum 3rd party software addons. Just only clean fresh system, fast and stable with a lot of free RAM (yes, I know, there is only 64 MB RAM totally)
Thank you for all suggestions and good support od "God bless Xda-dev board".
edit: I was found Touch-IT v4.4 and 4.41 WWE P4350 ROM (Lite), which looks really cool. Or is there any better?

if your looking for free space on the herald JustME is prob the best bet. Small as can be....

ok, thank you. I will try

Hi everyone,
a newbie asks for some help:
I've just downgraded my Herald from HTC's WM6 to WM5 with the german/e-plus version from Brightpoint. My reason for this is Navigon's Mobile Navigator 6, which runs on WM5 much more faster and better. But finally, I'm unhappy with the behaviour of WM5.
What's with the posted 6.1 versions? Are there ROMs, which are carefully cleaned up but not naked like "JustMe", perhaps in german language? And last but not least stable releases ;-)?
Thanks for your help,
Chris

There is no real answer to this question as it is very subjective.

Which is the best fully working ROM at the moment?

Hi all,
First post here so hope I haven't put it in the wrong place... I'm bored of the standard software on the HTC TOUCH HD after having it for a month so im looking for something a bit jazzy and was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of the best option for myself! It must meet the following criteria...
1) not drain the battery
2) not lag / be nice and fast
3) be able to run other apps nicely. in particular the tomtom navigator software that I've got.
4) not just be straight wm6.5 !
any suggestions? thanks in advance

topix in my opinion, but i do not like such threads.
For me is NRG 6.5 ROM from 17 Octomber with Manila Sense 2.1
Bugs free, very smooth and fast ROM, don`t dry my battery and all is almost perfect
[ROM][WWE][2/11/09] XannyTechROM GRID LEO 2.0 (Leo 1.43) (21872/23081)
I thing.......
topix without the slightest doubt
kwbr Topix 3.0.2
Runs excellent and fast
Tuurtje
Topix and Dutty the holy grail
I've tested a fairly large amount of roms, including Miri's (6.1 and 6.5), Dutty's (6.1 and 6.5), Laurentius, Xanytech's, etc... But I always find myself going back to a Topix rom.
In my opinion, Topix roms are unmatched in terms of simplicity, stability and speed.
I haven't tried the latest 6.5.1 roms though, they seem to be promising.
I think Miri's Xtralight 21872.The Fastest of all 6.5s
Hellonasty's MaryOne x00.4 is pretty fast and stable in my opinion..
Just my opinion.
WM 6.1: kwbr Topix 3.***
WM 6.5: XannyTechROM GRID LEO 2.0
I prefer 6.1 ROMs, but 6.5 are better with "switching" between UMTS and GPRS.
Closed this "which ROM is best thread".
Every user has his own perception of what makes a ROM good.
Every user has specific usage for his/her device, what one person would value an other would hate.
Even "best working" is kinda subjective, someone who eg. doesn't use MMS, doesn't value a perfect functioning MMS, another user could value a perfect working bleutooth stock, while an other never uses bleutooth, etc etc..
Lots of people, lots of tastes.
Best way to find the best working ROM for your purposes is in flashing and testing.
There is no way around that.

the how to?

hi, i just got my x1 a few weeks back and im looking to upgrade the rom and what i realized is it involves many more steps than what was required for my universal before?
i upgraded the official rom via the SD card method and that worked like a charm. But what i dont know is which rom can i upgrade to on my x1... as it seems that they are all based on R2... R3... etc?
so what im lookin for is a fast and simple answer on which roms i can upgrade on my x1. The method is not a problem. The rom selection is. And plus, which is the best rom you would recommend?
thankx
The best way is, imho:
Check the threads here. In each, you can find a description of the ROM,
a discussion about possible bugs and solutions, and recommendations from
the xda community.
Basically, you can flash any ROM you will find here. Some like the newest,
more "unofficial" builds of WinMo 6.5 with the Windows start menu at the
bottom, others prefer the "official" build with the menu at the top.
Again others prefer either a Windows only ROM, some Manila 2.1, some the
"latest" version 2.5, these are from the "Leo".
Almost the same applies to the radio/rilphone version.
If you have some spare time, make your own trials - start maybe with the
ROMs from agent_47, NRGZ28, spikegotti, itje, MrRusch... and soon, you
will have your very own, personal preferred solution.
thanks. another question? what is "manila"? unfimiliar with this term.

Manila is the user interface by HTC, which seems to be a favorite of many
X1 users here at xda - there are many ROMs which are cooked with it.
Version 2.5 is taken from the upcoming Leo model, while 2.1 is from other
models, such as Rhodium and Topaz - those are the closest to the X1 from
hardware specifications. One kind of a "disadvantage" in the perception of
some users in the 2.5 version is missing landscape support for virtually all
functions, while 2.1 is fully landscape.
Manila brings eye candy, but also finger friendliness to WinMo devices. You
can easily recognize it with the big digital clock at the home screen.

I'd like to point out that the 2.5 version seems to be a little heavy for the X1.
The manila 2.1 from Rhodium\Topaz have a nice look & feel to them. Also battery life is VERY good with these versions (3 to 6 days on a single charge, depending on how you use your X1). Manila 2.1 does not have the Facebook and Twitter tabs, and has different Favorite and Home screen layouts.
My advise would be to go with a manila 2.1 ROM. My personal favorit is the FireStorm Rhodium\TOPAZ by Agent_47. It's loaded with lots of extra programs, and runs very stabile.
Excelent everyday use!
FireStorm Rhodium\TOPAZ by Agent_47? will give that a try? the htc leo is the HD 2 yes? and thanks for the clarification on the manila. been a great help. Is there much difference in the manila and the touch flo 3d cab? the cab seems to be stable too... and im not a big fan of wm6.5. ive never tried it before... how much free ram is there after the update?

Manila is actually a nickname of what was called TouchFlo3D earlier, and to
complete the confusion, you will maybe read "Sense" sometimes, too. In fact,
that is again the same. Most people here use "Manila" and versions 2.1/2.5.
To install Manila with a cab is definitely quite a fast procedure, but the real
performance of your device will not be as fast as possible - even if stable.
The free RAM is different from ROM to ROM, lower WinMo "pure" ones are
somewhat around 30% memory usage, the lowest Manila ROMs are at
around 35-40% with 2.1, 45-55% with Manila 2.5 - but then again, this is
different from ROM to ROM.
In the sum, maybe a Touch X 10.8.2 or agent´s "Photon" ROM (standard)
could be a good point to start.
Once your are happy, the chef most probably will not be unhappy if you
take care of his/her donation fund...
Happy flashing!
thanks buddy uve been a great help. one last question, i have just upgraded my rom using the micro sd method. if i wanted to go back to my wm 6.1 official R3A rom which was released a lil over a week back, could i use that .nbh file to downgrade as if upgrading?
what im trying to ask is i just put the R3a rom file in my formatted sd card and load the phone in boot loader more and let the magic happen or a more complex process is required like backin up and restoring stock rom?

Help & explanation with WM6.1 & 6.5

Good evening dudes,
I need your help with some stuff...
First i would like to have your help in a comparasion with the wm6.1 and wm 6.5 (battery life differences, Ram Usage, etc.)
Second i would like to ask your opinion and recomedation to choose a Good Rom based in WM6.5 w/o TouchFlo (i just want a fast and stable, with great battery life)
Last but not least, i would like to know if there's anyone making a WM 6.5 Portuguese/Portugal (not Brazillian) Rom.
Compliments,
Martins

Plz mates, give me some help about my Post.
Help me out... i really need some recomendation.
Thanks
in short, i'd say wm65 is a fat wm61. with a lot of other holes. speed ? wm61. compatibility ? wm61. looks ? wm61. wm65 is a piece of binary crap
i strongly recommend jacks 3.x lite wm61 rom (he also has 4.x which is wm65 -didn't try it though). really, like, no bugs. to say that most wm65 roms out there are functionally 'buggy' is a gross understatement.

Well.... The latest fastest, stablest and also running smooth and having no drain battery fast issues are from my point of view the Miri V38 with Manila 2.1. Sure, it is an WM 6.5 21893 Build, which is in the meanwhile a little bit old, but for daily use, it is perfect. Only sad thing is, that Miri decided to ride off from the HD ROMs and go over to burn HD2 ROMs.. But it was very stable ROM.... Thinking to switch back to them...
Hi,
Many, many, many threads have been posted about this topic and like you said yourself it's all personal, so there is really no good answer.
I can tell from my own expereience that most of the new roms are (almost) completely bug free (at least the real annoying bugs). I suggest you pick a few of the popular rom-threads and read the latest post to see what other people think of those roms.
There are two versions beeing cooked lately: the 5.2.91*** and 2.3.5**. I believe the first ones is at it's end of development and is very stable. The last one is a bit more finger friendly (buttons all below), is also fairly stable, but in my opinion a little bit slower then the first series.
To give you a little advice (but this is personal): I like Topix because of the stability, speed, fluity, low memory usage and battery time. I tried almost all the roms and I must say that the "Energy", "G10", "Mineterror", "Miri" and Dusk-evo roms are all good........aargh, who am I kidding, they are ALL good, so start reading, test a few and you decide what you like best.
How to flash is over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377
Good luck!
You've already got a couple of helpful posts which I feel is already too many
Opinionated threads are frowned upon in XDA as they create endless long threads due to each user having different opinions on which is best due to everyone having different tastes, i.e. what I like, you may not etc etc
If you're looking for the best one, then as a rule of thumb try flashing the roms in the threads which are used most often as surely these people cannot all be wrong

[Q] Htc topaz still interesting?

Hello everybody i would like to ask you yours advices. I have my topaz since 2 years and i never really liked it because i find it really slow with WM 6.5 even for basics tasks as SMS writing. I have no apps because of the poor market place. I use it just as a phone or a (bad) camera.
Is there a rom improving topaz capacities or the speed?
Are developers still working in a android's ROM or wm 7 'ROM ?
I tried Xdandroid but it was really slow and unconfortable (lagging to boot it).
On the contrary should i buy a new phone? (wich i dont want to do even for a 200€'s phone).
i still use my topaz eventhough i've sensation as my default phone... for topaz the best rom is dutty's roms... and if u want to feel unlagging and fast rom, please flash the WM6 rom not the WM6.5
but for android's rom... there are not suitable with topaz processor and ram... they are bugg and lagging...
Ok thanks à lot!

no problem buddy..
Just some questions again: is wm 6'rom usable with fingers? Because wm6's was really bad with fingers. Are there not any stable and fast wm6,5's ROM?
Good evening
The Topaz is the best Windows phone on the HD2. With a good Rom (Shania_V1.XX [2.53] [23 534]), 16MB pagepool, ATI 3D Driver and WinMoSpeed (614Mhz) makes the work a real joy. Demanding applications such as IgoPrimo runs fast and stable.
Which little WM6.5 device offers 800x480 display and listen to more than 120MB of free RAM? :good: I know of none.
