Howdy yall,
I've created 2 executable ROM upgraders for Cingular 8125 users.
The first is a RUU package that will restore an 8125 to it's 100% stock shipping state.
This file is on the ftp at:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/Cingular/Cingular_RUU_1.8.11.1.WWE.ship.exe
The second file is a customized version of the latest Qtek AKU2 ROM. It requires that your device be CID unlocked to install. It includes the Qtek OS, Radio, IPL, and SPL ROM parts untouched. The extended ROM has been customized as follows:
-all Cingular customization cabs included EXCEPT "Singed_gprsstall_1228.sa.cab" which breaks wifi.
-cab created by ammar to allow enabling wireless Today screen item.
-SPCS cab to allow install of unsigned cabs
-PPCContactsMgr cab created by ammar to allow for selecting/deleting multiple contacts
-P_removeBTicon cab to remove the battery indicator in the tray
-P_DisconnectButton3s cab to allow for gprs disconnect when holding end key 3 seconds
SPLASH screen display order is set to Cingular, Cingular, Windows Mobile (same as stock)
I left the "Get Express mail" and Goodlink stuff despite wanting to blow it away.. =)
This file is on the ftp at:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/Cingular/Cingular_RUU_WIZARD_217_AKU2_WWE.exe
Hopefully this is useful to Cingular folks who want to either go back to stock easily or go to the latest AKU2 ROM while maintaining Cingular customizations.
I take no responsibility for what happens to your device or the price of tea in China if you decide to use these RUU upgraders. I have swapped between the two versions several times today without problem.
your gonna make a lot of people happy with this easy process.
does this turn everything back to OEM spec ? including IPL etc ?

It does indeed. The IPL/SPL is returned to 1.08. I know there's probably a lot of folks who didn't want to try the new AKU ROM for fear of not being able to return to a 100% stock version....you can now do that easily.
Dude your awesome! I always put the newest rom on my device anyway, but its nice to know (in case device breaks) I can bring it back with no worries.
Absolutely awesome summiter! Just like the wayback machine that Mr. Peabody and Sherman would use in the old cartoon! Worked like a charm. (Forgot how slow that original ROM is...) Looking forward to installing your Cingular 2.17.
Thanks again dude, you're definitely gonna make a lot of people happy.
Steven
This is even better than what I was looking for originally. I wanted everything to be exactly like the 8125 on my Qtek 9100 because I'm on Cingular (I just like how the 9100 looks compared to the 8125). Now this came along as something even better - the newest Qtek 9100 ROM with the best combination of Cingular settings! I can't thank you enough!
EDIT: Hmm, everything works beautifully except one main thing: when I tried adding my GMail account to Outlook, I got to the point where it asks if it's a POP3 or IMAP4 account. I select POP3 and name it GMail, but when I click Next at the bottom, nothing happens. It's as if the button does absolutely nothing. Because of this, I can't add my email account because I can't proceed to the final step. Is anybody else having this problem?
I found it on Hofo posted by JediCorrado.
yanathin try this and let us know if it works.
Incoming Mail: pop.gmail.com:995
Outgoing Mail: smtp.gmail.com:465
under Options check "Require SSL Connection" "Outgoing mail requires authentication" "Use separate settings"
Click Outgoing Settings
Enter your username, password, check "Require SSL for outgoing mail"
The problem is that I can't even GET to the point where I enter my incoming/outgoing server... The "Next" button leading to that screen won't do anything. I had GMail working before the new ROM update just fine. (sorry for the slightly off-topic posts)
Sorry yanathin, was just trying to help.
I keep looking and post if I find anything.
biggie ups to you, summiter
so i'm a pansy, and i dinna have the brass ones required to futz with my stock cingular 8125... until this came along. just finished popping on the official qtek rom, and things appear to be running swimmingly. will mess around more later because i want a2dp so i can stop carrying my logitech dongle around, but thas neither here nor there.
excellent, EXCELLENT post. thanks much, chief.
EDIT: i got mine all set up, and i have to reflash, but i don't even care, because you're awesome in the first place for getting this up, and awesome again for fixing it on-the-spot-like. biggie ups again. downloading again now =)
awesome, im gonna give this a shot soon

I think I know what the problem is - gimme a few minutes to check things out and I'll upload a fixed installer.
Thanks soo much for the new rom package
I just finished loading my apps back on the cingular 8125, and it all works great, and much faster than the stock cingular rom. Exellent Work!

That would be wonderful if you could fix it... Aside from the ugly pasted Cingular logo on the Phone screen and Incoming Call pop-up box (I love it when Cingular just "pastes" their logo on things, no matter how it looks :x), this ROM is darn near perfect!

Is this a definate confirmed bug with the current installer? If it is I figure I should wait because I use my mail on the road everyday. If anyone has more info - please let us know. Thanks for creating this ROM and for looking at it again---as someone who has been afraid of updating but really anxious, this is really exciting.

It was one of the Cingular cab files. Apparently there was some issue with MMS and Cingular had a cab file that applied some sort of hotfix. Well this hotfix isn't needed with the AKU2 ROM and all it did was break mail. I've removed that portion of the offending cab file, repacked, and I'll upload the fixed installer afer I finish one more round of double checking. I've deleted the old one off the ftp, so when you see the 2.17 installer back up it will be the fixed version.

The fixed installer has been uploaded. Use the original link in the first message of this thread to grab it.
My appologies to those folks who got their devices all set up and have to reflash.. :?
that worked out great! my 8125 was acting all retarded and not picking up any signal at all for about 8 hours and after i installed the upgrade package, it worked like a charm. anybody else have any problems with the 8125 dropping connectivity completely?

Were you using the original stock ROM when you had these issues?
I have 4 Wizards, and 3 of them had problems locking up and losing signal with the original Cingular ROM. Cingular blames the problem on bad SIMs. After flashing to AKU 2 I've had no problems with any of the devices, so the update is either handling flaky SIMs better or Cingular was taking the easy way out of the problem. haha
I'm referring to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=45295
(Cingular 8125 users: 2 custom RUU upgraders available on ftp)
What's the benefit of using that over the stock cingular rom? It still has goodlink and expressmail installed so it's not really saving any space. Does it just offer a better OS with less errors and more speed?
Also, referring to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=47052
(Cingular 8125 users: 217 ROM w/ fonts, themes, oclock on ftp)
I can see some improvements. Themes, ringtones, and omapclock have been installed while goodlink and expressmail have been removed. I don't need the themes, ringtones, or omapclock.exe... but since this version doesn't have goodlink or expressmail this would be better for me then the first ROM I listed correct?
I can't test myself yet because my 8125 doesn't get here for another 12 hours or so. But I'm trying to prepare so when I get it I know exactly what to install to get it up and running ASAP. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
In the first case, there were two ROMs listed for download - one is the stock Cingular 1.8 ROM and one was upgraded to the MSFP/AKU2 ROM with the Cingular customizations. When this was first posted, neither HTC America, nor Cingular, made the original ROM version available for download - so if you upgraded to one of the other ROM's, it was virtually impossible to go back to the stock Cingular ROM.
In the other case, a lot of the ringers and themes are now stored in ROM, in lieu of taking up memory. It is a personal preference.
I upgraded to the AKU2 update ROM from the first thread so I could get Push Mail. Plus it is significantly faster than the original Cingular ROM.
Is there a post about all the versions of ROM?
Excuse my lack of knowledge, but I'm just a baby beginner when it comes to Wizards... just switched from HP 6515. I don't even know what AKU2 means, nor which update would be best for my needs.
I'd like to learn about it. But don't want people to write what has already been written, so could you provide me some links to the "history" of ROMs?
Thanks...

Browse this forum and you'll learn plenty. AKU2 is essentially like a service pack. It inludes OS fixes, and in the case of AKU2, it adds support for Microsoft's Direct Push, which requires an Exchange (service pack 2) account to function.
There's really only three major ROM types for the Wizard: the shipping version which came on your device, modified 2.0X ROMs which include Direct Push and support for bluetooth stereo, and 2.X ROMs which include Direct Push but NOT bluetooth stereo. The various 2.X ROMs you see are just various AKU2 releases from different vendors like QTek or Imate, as well as custom variations of those ROMs.
You're most likely to run across custom ROMs US carriers T-Mobile and Cingular, because they have yet to release official AKU2 ROMs.
What are your needs and who's your carrier?
Thank you for your explanation. This is actually where my journey to the world of Wizards begin
My provider is Cingular...
My needs? Hmm... tough one ;-)
Up till now I've been using HP 6515. Mostly for listening to music (not via BT) and ocasionally playing Microsoft's Cubicle Chaos. (Sometimes both at the same time)
I use some Today Screen plugins...
I'm a pretty heavy phone user (1-2 hours talk time per day) and messaging person (about 800 per month). I don't use GPRS, since Cingular's prices on it simply SUCK!
And I'm always looking for some new uses for my phone...

OK then, I think the custom 2.17 Cingular ROM is appropriate for you. It has push mail, but since you won't be using that, you'll at least gain the benefits of improved stability and performance.
Check out the thread I started about 2 custom ROMs for CIngular users being available on the ftp. There's a link directly to the 2.17 installer.
Be aware that you will lose anything you've installed, so you'll have to reinstall everything to your liking as you did when the device was new.
Thanks a lot, Summiter.
You've given me a lot of explanation and I'm grateful to you.
I'll sure check out that thread.
Cheers.
Hi there summiter.
I want to download/install the ROM you are mentioning, but the FTP link in your post is broken...may you offer some help as to where I can find it?
I have a Cingular 8125 that I'd like to update with the 2.17 ROM you mention.
Nevermind, I found a working link in another post.
Going to try the 2.17 with AKU2, Ringers, and oclock. I'll see how it goes!
How to -exactly
I too am new in the HTC world having come from years of Blackberrries. The info on the ROM upgrades is clear and it seems an upgrade to the 2.17 would be good for me, but I need to know *how* to flash and upgrade and haven't found any step-by-step's in this forum for those basic items. I have no problem finding the files, downlaoding the files from the FTP sites, etc- I just need to know what the difference between "flash" and "update" are - and how to execute those two tasks.
Thanks,
-Marc

Flash and update are used interchangeably. When you update, you are flashing a new ROM onto your device.
As far as step-by-step goes, I've posted several, but..
establish an activesync connection
CID unlock with aWizard
device reset
establish an activesync connection
run the ROM isntaller of choice

Unless you decide to use one of the added themes, then yep it looks exactly the same. As far as feel, well that's relative, but most folks report it feels a bit snappier. It retains the Cingular splash screen at startup.
Before I try the upgrade I just wanted to get a couple of clarifications. It is simply a "one click" process of running the executable? Of course I assume the phone needs to be connected.
I downloaded a file from the FTP site that I believe is the latest and greatest but I would really rather not fry my phone. <G>
Also, assuming everything goes okay will I loose any of my programs, and contacts?
From the folks that have had trouble, is there any kind of consensus of what cuased their problems? In other words should I avoid doing it if I've seen what with my 8125?
Thanks all,
Dave.......
Make absolutely sure you unlock your CID and sim using Lokiwiz before you upgrade to any ROM.
There's a couple of different ROMs out there as well, so make sure you read their respective threads and see what other people's experiences are with them. Summiter's ROMs are top notch, but make sure you grab the one with the features you are looking for.
In general, AKU2 ROMs are much more stable than your stock 8125's ROM. Most importantly, test all the important functionality (WiFi, Bluetooth, GPRS, etc.) before you start loading apps on your device.
Enjoy!

I'm thinking I might just ought to wait until the "official ROM" comes out. Seeing as how I have no idea what you mean by "unlocking your CID" means. <G>
I'm sure it's here in the threads but all this makes me a little nervous. I'm no stranger to all this tech stuff but should I fry my phone it would be hard to justify to the wife that I need to spend $500.00 on another one.
Absolutely. If you don't feel comfortable with the process, then it's best to wait until an official update is released so that you can go right back to the store and get a replacement if something goes wrong.
I just upgraded my 8125 and I don't know what CID means nor did I unlocc it. Its was very simple, just a few cliccs (I think about 4). It only took about 5mins and wow so many more features and better stability then how I recieve my 8125. I used one of the official Roms myself.
Hey I am about to do the update myself. I was wondering if someone could answer a few questions for me.
1.) I see it says when you do the update all the programs need to be reinstalled. Does that mean even the programs that originally came with the phone? Like the calc, and excel? Or just the programs that you installed on your own.
2.) I am mainly interested in the overclocking, and having push email work, and stereo bluetooth. Which rom should i use? there are so many out there now, it can get a bit confusing, and i dont want to use the wrong one. Is there a place you can go to look at the features of each one?
3.) what is the best push email client to use? i am using express mail now, but i am not liking it at all.
Thanks in advance i am loving this forum, and i hope to get my phone up and running soone
1. No. Everything you started with should be there again. Just updated software.
2. As far as OC and Stereo BT. The are specificied on the installer files. Not sure about the Push Email.
3. Haven't used this feature yet.
I did the AKU2 upgrade ROM for the 8125 and I do not see what all the new features are.
Can someone delineate all of the upgraded features for me?
I do notice the new screen for the Connection Manager, but all of the choices seem to be the same.
Thanks

I saw a new screen when just doing the rom. I have no idea what the Extended Rom thing does. I would like to know aswell

The basic 2.17 ROM is just a simple AKU 2 ROM customized for Cingular users. Think of an AKU as a service pack. Microsoft updated some core OS files, and in the case of AKU 2 also included Direct Push and the remote wipe features. Cingular has been dragging their feet in getting an AKU 2 ROM out, hence the homegrown ROMs available here.
The other 2.17 ROMs are built on the basic version, but have additional features as indicated in the file name.
CF2 is Compact Framework 2 and is essentially some .Net components shrunk for mobile devices. Some applications require CF2. CF1 was already included in WIndows Mobile 5, I added CF2 so folks wouldn't need to install it into the limited program storage space.
Themes and ringers are obvious - I added more of them.
A2DP/AVRCP is stereo over Bluetooth, and remote control over Bluetooth. It's used for wireless stereo headphones.
OmapClock is a CPU overclocking utility that allows for specifying a higher or lower clock speed for the CPU. It can help in situations where an application requires more horespower. I added shortcut links with 3 common clock speeds to make overclocking easier. The shortcuts can be assigned to hardware buttons.
Hope this helps.
If you have a subscription to Sirius Satellite Radio you can stream it on your Wizard with this great application.
To install it extract the files to your computer and copy them to a folder on your wizard. You can create a shortcut in your program menu for easy access.
SiriuCE does the same
SiriuCE does the same and has a much nicer interface. I have tried them both and much prefer SiriuCE plus it supports TCPMP which is my preference of media players. I must say that since none of the Sirius radios support Bluetooth and my 8125 does it is quite the hot setup especially with Summiters kick butt AKU 2.3 ROM providing much better WiFi speed then previous editions.
tried both and you're rite ce is the better of the 2
[g ride - why is your signature so big? It makes the board quite unreadable. I think it would be polite to resize it slightly.
]
I like SiriuCe better. Nicer interface.
Can you stream over edge or GPRS? or just wifi?
Thanks
Thanks for the SiriusCE update. I hadn't used the old one in a while and when I tried it again a few days ago, found it no longer worked. Now I know why. Between this and Sling Mobile, I barely even use this thing as a....phone?....anymore.
Any idea of how much data (kb/min?) is used?
I'm just using a 3 Meg package and wonder how long it will last...
about: SiriusCE
Thanks for share the cab my friend..
Both are dead, anyone know where to find an updated copy?
yeah nevermind found a working version of siriuswm5, http://forums.geekstoolbox.com/
so far its great ;D
Is SiriusWM5 Still Working?
It used to work on iPaq but not anymore. I get "Connection failed." when I try to login. I can login using Sirius Yahoo Widget and on sthe sirius website so I know my account is good.
Is SiriusWM5 working for anyone? I don't see any recent posts so it probably is, but I can't figure out why it stopped working for me.
I know i can delete some from Windows/Start Menu/Programs
The ones I want to hide, are things like, Getting Started, Internet Sharing, Messenger, O2, Resco Update, Voice Recorder, Voice Speed Dial,Windows Live and Worldcard mobile.
Im sure I had a program before that did it, but cant for the life of me, remember its name, or where I got it.
Preferably free, or just one with a trial so I can hide them and then uninstall it.
Cheers,
Tony
Use a program like Total Commander to remove the link you wish from \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Total Commander is free and can be found here http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
Best bet for this one is to read the WIKI and learn how to flash a cooked ROM. Choose one you like the looks of you and you will only have the apps on it that you like. plus you will get rid of all of that bloatware operators install as default
I flashed with the new HTC one, which removed all the O2 crap.
For some reason they didnt appear (the icons i wanted to delete) when i tried the first time in file explorer.
so just to clarify you have flashed the new official ROM but still have the o2 progs on the phone?
Has it all been unlocked both SIM and CID and hard SPL'ed?
Sorry Im at bit of a loss as to how this has happened
yep, got the new rom, says 6.1 (previously 6) on startup screen, sms threading works, so its upgraded. all thats there of O2's is the program to get o2 settings. I think anyway.
Before i upgraded, i had a small O2 taskbar with a little O2 task manager, thats now gone.
I have had the phone a few days, and while briefly reading over the wiki, havnt had a good in depth read yet, so i have no idea how to check if its sim or cid free, or hard spl'ed.
I tried using hard spl, but got a white screen, so i followed a tutorial in another thread and it worked.
(And the 4th edit ) ... I assume it is sim/cid free, when i tried running the update utility the first time it said something along the lines of its not possible with that carrier.
If it says not possible with carrier then to me it would suggest that it still is SIM locked search for OliPros SMI/CID unlocker and follow the instructions on that to unlock the handset. If it has been updated to WM6.1 and still having probs after you have followed all of these steps then these programs are more than likely cooked into that ROM so there is no physical way of uninstalling them as they are part of the OEM. But TBH you would be better off getting one of the cooked ROMs from our ROM section as they work a damn sight better than the official release and incluse much better apps
It 'said' not possible, then i used another app, which i deleted since and cant remember.
Then it updated fine.
I have now installed everything and re-set it up 3 times. I might wait a while before flashing to a custom rom. Its all the talk of radios that confuses me at the moment. Like i said, when i get chance, ill sit and read through everything properly.
lol I was the same when I first started but you will find that everyone on this forum will help you if you ask nicely. Also although the flashing sounds complicated its really as simple as dl the ROM and click a couple buttons on your PC.
BTW Welcome to XDA
Thanks
First chance i get ill sit down and read properly
Right, i think I have installed Duttys rom correctly.
Device information now says,
Rom Version : Dualtouch v6 WWE
ROM Date : 03/04/08
Radio Version : 1.65.16.25
SMS works, calls work, internet works, my only gripe so far is a slow boot time, it seems slower than before.
Now to install everything again for a 4th time
