Damaged alpine looking for good home! - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

I was very let down with the alpine. there must be a way to put 5.0 on it but oh well I just bought a wizard and it is way better except camera quality is on par thanks htc! I was hoping someone might buy the alpine before I drown it. maybe buzzlightyear could make use of it but the screen does not brighten up and it needs surgery to the pins that connect the charger connection to the mainboard. any repley might help!

Is the screen backlight dead, or just not very bright?
V

backlight died 3 times very weird like a cat

I got a bit of an issue...no radio signal!

Hey,
I got some problems(aside from those). i just bought the dopod housing for my cingular 8125 because my old housing was cracked in alot of places. did the whole swap no issues and afterwards i cant seem to get a radio signal. now for anyone who hasn't looked yet there is a strip that is located under the antenna cover that connects to the antenna pins and that (as far as i can see) is touching fine. during the swap i did not touch the antenna itself.
now before anyone thinks it i'll go ahead and let you know i did go through the frustrating process of movign everything back to where it was but nothing changed. i also (on my other pc) am trying to reload the radio rom i was using before to see if that will change anything. so i guess for right now i'm kinda looking for anyone who has faced the same scenario and how they solved it, just incase his doesn't work.
oooooookkkkk.... a bit scared.
my phone just cut off and now wont cut back on.i reloaded the radio rom and it didn't fix anything. then all of a sudden while i was resyncing the damned thing just cut off... WTF!?!

battery was charged to "full"?
yeah...
it was. the dmned thing has been F___ing wit me since yesterday.i even used my wife's MDA battery to test it and nothing. for the life of me i can't figure it out i tested the board to see if it shorted somewhere and it was good. i don't understand how it just messed up because i changed the housing?!? so what i might do is take it to the cingular store and have them use the more advanced tests and check it on the energy output to see what happened but if that don't work i might just upgrade my wife's contract(something i've been avoiding) and get the 8525(a hermes, i know) and start over.
but if worst comes to worst i have a question...which is better overall in size, function, and ease of modification? is it the hermes, the titan or the wizard?
in response to your pm...
take the device apart again, clean all the boards and the cables ends[use alcohol only in the cables ends, use a make-up brush to clean the boards cranys etc]...put it back together again very carefully....also do not overtigh the screws or undertigh...good luck....
as for your question above the best device to customize now is the hermes....but i would wait for the hermes II

good point..forgot that...
i doubt it cause...
i used a wrist static dispencer, trust i know better than to go without one....the user name actually discribes me
Wat R Tha Odds...
alright folks here's the skinny. my 8125 fried, aparently somehow i had enough static to discharge and kill my IC ( yes you guys were right and i thank you for it) and now i guess one option available to me is to get the board replaced (firstly aquiring some static resistant gloves ) does anyone have an idea on where to go for a new board or a good condition used one and roughly the dent to pocket it would be?
ok, couple of things...
Been doing some HW and have a question... just to make sure is the cingular 8525 hermes or titan, or is it that the hermes IS in fact the titan? if someone could answer that in definate it would greately be appreciated. And secondly seeing i decided to get the 8525 not being able to find a motherboard i am selling my 8125. please see the post "BUY/SELL a broken Wizard! Protect our dying breed" for details.
A hermes is a Tytn and a Titan is a different HTC phone. A little confusing, but they are spelled differently.
alright....class summary
so the Cingular 8525 is a hermes, which is a tytn(am i good so far?) which is totally different from the TITAN. SO i need to start reading and studying the tytn and not the titan. Gotcha....i think?
Lol yep, I think. I have a kaiser that should be on it's way to me any day now and it's a Tytn II, but not a Titan II or even a hermes II.

Dropped phone, memory access?

Hello everyone, I've searched all over for an answer to this one with no joy.
I've had my stock Orange locked Diamond for almost two years now, and towards the end of a family break I dropped it.
Now it won't switch on beyond an initial buzz, and none of the mini USB chargers or pc cables will persuade it to charge.
The problem is that I used it to take all the photos during the family break, and now can't access them.
Now I read the reply about "jump" charging the battery and will be giving that a go, but can the memory chip be accessed independantly to offload the contents?
I should add that for quite a while before, the phone picked up and dropped the usb connection when connected with a frequency of about 3 - 5 seconds, which was very annoying.
Many thanks in advance
Luke
Little update
Hello all, thank you for reading about my plight.
Well I managed to charge the battery, and I think the phone switches on, as the volume controls make the appropriate sounds. However the screen is black, and even under heavy sun I can't see anything, so it's not just the backlighting that's gone.
The pc doesn't notice it when I connect, so I can't get in that way, unless someone can point me to how to chop up a cable and hardwire a data connection "upstream" of the mini-USB socket? (I'm hoping it's just the connector which is dead)
Otherwise, is there a combination of hardware buttons that will switch on bluetooth? I dropped it when it was in airplane mode. I had BT explorer checked, so if I can get BT on, I should be able to browse the phone with the pc? Please confirm.
Looking forward to reading your suggestions
Cheers
Luke
ps now I've discovered the limitations of a fixed memory; if the card were removable, all this wouldn't be an issue.

Thanks, I'll give it a try
Hi, thanks for the tip, I guess I have nothing to lose.
I've just found an appropriate screwdriver so here goes.
I saw that thread, but as one of the symptoms involved actually being able to read something on the screen, I didn't pay that much attention.
News soon.
Cheers
Luke
ok let me know.. best of luck
OMG it worked!
Hi, fantastic tutorial.
It took me several attempts to realise that when you say "chip" you mean circuit board.
Pressing and pressing gave no joy, but further investigation showed that I could slip the screwdriver underneath the loose connector and engage it from there.
Yes bad design on HTC's part, there should be some sort of physical lock, or at least a block underneath that pushes the connector into its socket.
However nice the phone was, the WM6 bugs & glitches were annoying, the USB connection still doing that really annoying thing of connecting and disconnecting every few seconds, so it's going to be hard to retrieve the photos; GRRR!
Does anyone know of a program that can block send files from the phone, either over wifi or bluetooth??
Anyway, many many thanks Siddharthsai, at least it's up and running. I doubt I'll be using it much now, despite that superb screen, my insurance replaced it with a Desire, and I have to say I'm impressed with my new toy
Oh yes, where's the command for auto screen lock? It's annoying me.
Many thanks again
Luke
Getting there
OK so thanks to Diamond tweak I was able to stop the screen locking every 5 seconds.
The USB problem is mechanical; I forced the phone down onto its mini USB plug really hard and it stayed connected. Thanks to SuperCopier 2 I was able to dump the contents before my hand got cramp
Yippee.
So I've got TomTom on the diamond, but no on-board nav on the Desire. My diamond might just end up relegated to being the permanent in car nav unit.
Anyone got a fix for the dodgy USB problem? I've tried all 3 of my mini-usb cables, but they do all happen to be HTC oem.
I guess that's why the micro USB has been adopted.
Thanks
Luke

[Q] G-Sensor not working and other questions

I've just bought an used Diamond for $82. It looks great, there are only a couple very minor scratches on the display (fixable with a little Displex methinks), came with all the standard accessories plus a genuine HTC leather pouch.
Story is as follows: The owner bought it last week for $140, but noticed later that the G-sensor only works up and down. He took to "the only authorized HTC service center in Romania" and they said something about a broken foil and asked for over $150 to fix it, so he decides to sell it. He'd just picked it up from service today (the diagnosis itself cost him $5 so they didn't even give it back for free). He could've sold it for more, but lucky me.
So, i check it out, and accidentally drop it. It falls flat on its back. Okay, it isn't hurt, everything works, i pay the guy and leave with the phone. On the subway back home everything fine, but at home when i try to connect to wifi it won't start. I reboot the thing and i get the dreaded MicropError. Then the backlight decides only to work when it wants to.
I take the thing apart only to find the wireless cable had come out of its connector, and when i lift the mobo out the display cable also detaches easily. I plug the wireless back in, and notice that the display cable doesn't "click" when the board is mounted back in its place. Aha, so this must've been it. Great service center they have, they can't even click a connector in place.
I use a flat screwdriver to make sure the cable locks firmly in place, put a piece of paper under it to keep it from moving around again, and put the phone back together. Success. I haz working HTC.
It's true that a broken G-Sensor can't be fixed, right? Not that i care too much about it, i just want to know a yes/no type answer.
So, now the main question. I already noticed that the built-in speaker is crap, something typical of WinMo devices as far as i've seen. Now, the supplied headphones are also crap and it doesn't have a jack adapter either. Before i slice the handsfree and patch my Samsung in-ears onto it, i want to know if it sounds good on quality headphones. I don't need it loud as the Samsungs are plenty sensitive, but i need good bass. I have a Sony Ericsson w595 and it's got really powerful bass. I used to have a HP iPAQ rx4240, and it was loud, but it was miles behind the SE phone in sound quality and bass.
The main idea is that the HTC will replace one of my two phones - either the Nokia N93i or the SE w595. The N93i is held in one piece by superglue only and sometimes i need to restart it before it will accept a charge (and it's a PAIN opening Symbian menus for the first time after you restart it). The w595 i got as a gift this summer and is in pristine shape complete with protective foil applied to display. So i could easily sell it for what i paid for the HTC.

[Q] Display problem on xperia Tx

Well i hope i can find a solution here so this is what hapenned. My Tx went swimming i left it aroud the bath tub and someone was calling me but it was on vibracall so i didin´t listen it, then it fall into the water but i saw it and as fast as i could i take out of the water and it was still ringing, but the very first thing i dit was take out the battery and the screen was still visible when i dit that, it was also vibrating untill i take off the battery so, i disasemble it and take out all the parts to dry them with a hair blower, then put it all back together. Well the cellphone turns on and it works as normal but screen is black, i mean only backlight is on but with no video at all,
so i conect it to my tv using an mhl adapter and all the info is on the tv i mean i hav image on the tv but not on the cellphone, i try the display with another motherboard of a damaged tx that i bought and found that the display works well on the other cellphone but not in mine so the problem must be on the motherboard of my cell i guess i hope someone can help me with this.
wow less is more lol, I'm going to suggest a stupid but most probably, the correct solution, recheck the cables inside the phone and make sure they ain't broke, or are in tidy

No Audio after screen replacement

Hi,
I really need your help as I have no idea what to do.
After 1 month of using MI5 Pro Ceramic black I have broke my phone,First the touch worked and there was only vertical lines on the lcd in the spot of the shatter so I could operate but due to my stupidity and of force touching the broken glass these vertical lines started to cover all the screen (Everything worked well on the phone..Sound,Camera and etc..)
So I ordered from Aliexpress LCD + Touch screen for about 70$ (Included DHL Express shipment)
When I got the screen I started to disassamble the phone.. Got everything out,Took out the broken screen and pasted the new screen on the frame (Must say all these aliexpress screens are really bad,0% protection on the screen,Not sure about the LCD quality yet but glass is horrible..Started to scratch even before I used it)
Anyways to our point..
Started to assamble back everything.. Powered on the phone and Yay! Phone is working but...
No Sound,Firstly I checked settings and everything..Ran CIT test and everything that belongs to audio giving force close..
Calibrate Speaker PA test results : State-Get impedance failed!,Speaker Vendor-None
Vibration- FAIL no short and no long
Main mic speaker Feedback,Simulation call test,Front mic speaker feedback test,Top mic speaker feedback test,
everything when I enter it giving FC with that details :
"IlegalStateException:Unable to retrieve AudioRecord pointer for SetParameters() blablala...
Headphone mic feedback test (Called on an uninitialized AudioRecord)
So in short..
No Speaker,No Mic,No headphone Mic..
Now my question is what I need to do from now.. Its not firmware/software problem for sure as before I disassambled the phone everything worked well..
My first guess was the problem is on the Sub PCB but then I asked my self..If the USB-C is working and WiFI antenna giving full signal it means the Sub PCB works so what the hell is the problem? I really hope its not something in the PCB it self as it means throw everything to garbage.. ;<
Hope to hear suggests..
I thought to order the MI5 32GB Black version take out the Main PCB put the Pro Main PCB and put also the ceramic back cover but that I would do only if I know that the problem is from the sub PCB but if Headphone mic doesnt work (Which the Main PCB take care of) then its probably in the Main PCB??
Please help!
you didnt damage the pins on the press connector? is the press connector on the ribbon cable flush / fully inserted ? Are you sure you didnt kink the ribbon cable?
I haven't pulled a mi5 apart, but can only assume its like every other phone i have.

The problem is that far as I understood of how the mi5 built and from how I saw it looks like..The Speaker located in the Sub PCB cover,Vibrate connected to subPCB,And all the SubPCB connected with the cable to the main PCB and I checked it connected good and no any damaged pins from what I was able to see..If there was damaged pins then the phone wont get charged as the USB-C wont be connected as it located in the SubPCB however it does work.. So I really have no idea what cause it..
Also the Headphone mic doesnt work in the tests..Anything related to Audio giving that FC with "AudioRecord" error..
I really must to know what causing it so I will know what to do ;<
Little update,
Just connected a bluetooth speaker,No any sound nothing..
Hi everyone! My MI5 has the same problems, no sound, mic, vibration, led buttons light, plugin earphones without notification's icon, can not play music, video offline and online video (Youtube, Facebook, live stream ..). It was happened when i replaced brooken screen. The first time when I turn on, evetything ok, I can play music through speaker, but now everything has gone..! Plz tell me how to slove this problem! Sorry for my poor E!
Hi, I ended up on buying the phone again... It's impossible to fix that problem as probably you did what I did and didn't place the motherboard correctly so a little bent probably happened and that cause to the problem.

Hi there! Care to elaborate a little more? I have also the same problem. I was replacing the rear camera module while the module I had received was broken to begin with. I hadn't really figured this out initially and I tried several times to attach it and test it, perhaps move the flex and retest, and at some I remember I found out the vibration was not there, but didn't pay attention to it as everything was open, until I found out the camera module was faulty in the end, and subsequently discovered also the whole issue with sound/vibration/key backlight etc. Instead of buying a new device, I was thinking to try and fix it, but still I'm a bit unsure about what the problem really was. From what I could figure, I didn't do anything different this particular time the audio/vibration didn't work, with respect to the previous times I attached and detached the motherboard. But is it definitely the board itself and not its flex connecting it to the sub-pcb? Could it be the sub-pcb itself or even both this and the board? In case I buy a new board (perhaps together with a sub-pcb just in case) to replace it which part should I watch out for, not to damage it again. Sorry for the many questions but you seem to be the only source of info for this specific problem.

Hi sorry for late answer,I barley visit xda these times..
After I bought the MI5 again this time in the 64gb version I tested the old 128gb motherboard (The main one) and still same problem with Vibration/Sound (While all sensors work camera too)
Which means its not the sub-pcb problem,Its the main motherboard for sure,Now what cause it?
In my opinion when I pulled of the motherboard to put it on the new screen I insert it in a bad way which made it bent a little and probably the place I bent is where the audio and all the stuff goes on..
I'm pretty sure we cant really do something about that problem as problem related to motherboard it self are usually not fixable,But if you find something I will glad to get a feedback to test on my own bad motherboard so maybe I can back to the 128gb version ;| but I doubt it..

Many thanks for the response! It sheds a little light indeed. I also ordered another phone to replace it as the cost of the motherboard seems to be equal approximately close to a new device. I'm with you, in the same view, I also once placed the motherboard quickly in the chassis without the screw that holds it together, in one of the 50 or so attempts to try and make the camera sensor I was replacing, visible to the OS, and this looseness was the unfortunate one perhaps (?). I too don't expect the sound to work again. I just wanted to double check the issue was not with the sub-pcb, which I did thanks to you. For sure I have no hopes for the mainboard to work again, but still, what keeps me from being certain it is actually the sound card that is the problem, is a very similar case I saw In a foreign forum, and also clues from my device which support the argument that the mainboard might have entered in a kind of diagnostic boot state due to a hardware fault that was apparent, where either some components are not initialized during boot, or their HW resources are taken over from the diag. ports and irqs that are enabled, in which case the issue can perhaps be fixed. For sure whenever I find a good deal on a new motherboard I will replace it, to keep it as a secondary phone, as I liked it quite a bit, but It would be interesting to see if this hypothesis holds or not. Anyway thanks again for the response!
Hi,
I've bought used mi5 with broken screen. After LCD replacement I've found that that phone has problem with sound. Exactly the same as in this thread - no sound, mic, vibration, led buttons light, plugin earphones without notification's icon, can't play music, video offline and online video (Youtube).
Someone already did LCD replacement on this phone and probably done something.
But what I discovered on this phone that problem start when battery charge aprox more then 60%.
I did flash one year old ROM via fastboot ( just to verify if it not the ROM problem) and after that everything was fine ( battery level 50%).
I did hardware test - passed 100% fine.
But when I did charge till 100% the problem come back.
That's really interesting finding... Can you tell me the same steps you did like which rom you flashed and all of that? I will check it with my dead phone maybe if I will have the same thing like you we can point on something...

Exactly same problem with me, just replaced the rear camera and the problem occurs
No sound, no vibration, nav led not working at all, playing video not working
Even playing sound via bluetooth speaker not working too
I believe there is something wrong with the mainboard
can anyone point out which part of the mainboard responsible for the lower board?
The lower board works well though, I tested it using other mainboard

For me the problem was that after the screen replacement (It may also apply to you after you replaced the rear camera..)
When I put back he main motherboard it wasnt sat properly,I put it beneath a small plastic holder and when I closed everything and screw and all..Problem appeared and when I rechecked motherboard I found out it got bent in the right down side and that's probably what killed all the sensors, sound and everything..
Of course that what happend to me..There is plenty of other reasons that may cause to what you experience..

I believe the chip or something similar, that control the sensor, led, vibration etc, was broken because we put it the wrong way
now we need to find which chip it is and replace it
which part of the right down? near the signal cable?

If you just checked and saw you put it wrong as I did,On the little plastic which made a little bent then I guess you lost..I would just buy new motherboard on aliexpress or just give up and buy a new phone..
As you cant really know (I mean from our side..) if its a chip related there or if its the bent it self which made problem on the connection on the board it self..
And yes I was speaking about the right side near the signal cable where you need to install the motherboard from that side where there is a little plastic like holding the motherboard..When I did the reinstall by not checking I put the motherboard on that plastic and after I closed everything and all screws got back I discovered that problem..

Just wonder if anyone have the schematic for mi5 mainboard, since I'm curious and want to find a way to repair it
