I have mediaNet unlimited... I just upgraded to the 2.23 rom by summiter which in the connections it shows "myISP" and not mediaNet......
Will I get charged Pay-Per-Usage?
There is no simple answer to is. Using My ISP or Media Net (the only difference is the use of proxy server) does not matter to the billing. I use My ISP all the time w/o being charged PPU. First, make sure PPU is not showing up on your account features. Many times, CSR will forget to take it off when adding Media Net or even PDA connection. Secondly, don't over use the data. If your data usage stands out, Cingular will definitely take a close look at your account and decide you should use Media Net plan and slam you with PPU.
Thanks for the reply.
I think that I will just flash back to the summiter 2.17 rom. I know that I didnt get the PPU charge on it. (just as a precaution) I am almost certain it had MEdiaNet in it in.
let me ask this... is thier a cingular CAB file that will set up the settings ?
why not just use the medianet profile as default if you are worried about it? the settings are in there, just not as default.

You need call and ask them remove that PPU from your account. You're being charged PPU right now.

Agreed... I just loaded the 2.17 rom and all is good now.. the proxy and all that good stuff is in there.
Again, I and many others don't use proxy server because of Wi-Fi issues. As long as PPU feature is not on your account, it really doesn't matter you use proxy server or not. You need call CSR to remove that *feature* from your account regardless. Sooner or later, it will bite you with a huge bill even if you're using proxy server.

This is a part of a reply to a registry question in general forum. It's a warning against importing win CE registry to the PC by mistake. The idea reminded me of something I read on a site called "Computer stupidities" .
http://rinkworks.com/stupid/cs_os.shtml
There's one there about a guy who's laptop got to heavy, so he installed CE on it to make it lighter, they just don’t specify how he did it… :lol:
That quote was from me - I don't recall if PCs still permit importing by double clicking, but it's wise to apply a reg hack on your PC to make the default function for reg files to be open in notepad, just in case. I was once feeling particularly malicious and removed the "shell" line from the registry and it caused all manner of screw ups. So screwing with your registry is bad... I highly recommend you run Erunt.
Re weird PCs, anyone know what happened to WinCE on the XBOX?

Vj, I apologize if the quote offended you, and I will edit the message if you want. The point you made is completely valid and I agree with it 100%.
The idea of CE and PC put together in one sentence simply reminded me of some silliness I thought might be good for a laugh or two so I posted the link.
Oh absolutely not offended! Just that the original question worried me slightly: how do I view/print off a reg file exported from the PDA, on a PC.
The number of ROM dumps and reg files that I play with on my pc at 5am, I've nearly been there, ending up with some kinda Frankenstinian PCA :shock:
V
Actually, Frankenstinian, some times works.
Personal example: Motorola SM56 PCI modem in P4 computer running XP pro. SP2.
The driver Motorola provides on their site always gave code 10 (cannot start), but when I installed the driver for win 2000 and deleted one exe that sat in the tray and controlled some options I can live without, it worked perfectly.
In fact, so far I didn't notice any instability, or problems sending faxes and stuff.
PS. Important note to whom ever might take this post as an example: when doing stuff like this be prepared to have to format your hard drive.

Tsk, assign .reg files to notepad, but do import one once with regedit.
Doubleclick-> edit in notepad
Rightclick - open with regedit -> import
I live in a 3G area, and ever since I've started using Custom ROM's, I've noticed that while I can get on pIE and surf the web at regular speeds, programs like Skype cannot access MEdia Net (I've got a Tilt). I've searched around the forum, and I've been unable to find out why only pIE can access a data connection. This also applies to the Windows Mobile email. Thanks
You may have to Able/Disable the proxy settings. Run a forum search on AT&T Proxy settings.
I've checked everything, and my AT&T proxies are correctly configured. Everything is right as far as I can tell. But when I try and get my email through the default outlook thing, it says "Synchronization Error" and then a popup comes up saying that it cant connect with my current settings.
Have you tried this?
Depending on the ROM you may also have to install the default Media Net settings found in a separate CAB.
I've already installed that cab to no avail :O
Sorry.....
OK! Then I'm of no use to you as I have no other answer than flashing back to the OEM ROM. I haven't ran into that problem so my experience at fixing it is limited. Have you tried searching the WIKI or G.W.E.N.I.?
Yeah. I'm still researching. You use an OEM ROM?
My 8525 got a new ROM every week but my Tilt is still stock ROM... I'm happy with how it is for now. Waiting on the official 6.1 to come out and then go from there.
Good luck.....
thanks. I hope I get this sorted out
It fails you huh?

Any how, on to the subject at hand. Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select Network. What are both set to? If you select MEdia Net and Click Edit. Then go to Proxy Settings What does it say>
I had the same problem with email
Here's what I did:
Hit the message key.
Click on the email you want to check (yahoo, aol, gmail, etc...)(must already be set up)
Click Menu
Go to Tools
Click Options
Choose the account you want to change
Click Edit account setup
Hit next 4 times until you get to a screen where it says Outgoing (SMTP) mail server
At the bottom of that screen it says "Advanced Server Settings" Click it
Where it says network connection select "MEdia Net"
Click done
Click next until it says Finish
Then go back to the email you just changed and try to download your email again.
Let us know if the above post fixes your problem and then add **Solved** to the title of this thread.... I'm curious to know.....
Thanks, j1981bl1
I got the problem fixed. After reflashing the ROM about 10000 times, I figured out that manually creating the network connection to wap.cingular instead of isp.cingular fixed the problem. Thanks everyone for the help

isp.cingular, I believe is for Tethering plans. And just regular MEdia Net uses wap.cingular. I think I remembered that correctly. If not someone will correct me.
Dear all,
My Storage Card keeps disappearing after a while. Can't get it back other than by hard-resetting the device.
I've rebuild the phone several times now, and after a few hours incl. some warm-reboots, it's not able to recognise the SDCard anymore. Another problem which I figured out is that it disables RAPI too, which makes connecting with ActiveSync impossible. Luckily I was able to build an enableRAPI.cab file, which enables it (which I sent by mail to my phone!)...Well... Anyone that knows what this might be caused by?
Regards,
Nika.
PS. This started when I started to use the new ROM (see signature), but I think it's a general issue, maybe caused by UC or other programs installed by UC, or myself (after restarting)...
Hi all,
I have figured out that this is caused by Exchange policies (after my first Activesync Sync) pushed to my mobile! I have no idea how to change them back, going to try to figure that out now...
Any thoughts?
Regards,
Nika.
Dear all,
I figured it out. This was caused by the "enforce security settings" which can be done by Microsoft Exchange push-mail.
I got the following message:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I hadn't realised before, but this caused my phone to be inaccessible for ActiveSync (RAPI was disabled) too, and made my StorageCard disappear.
When I realised this I started my investigation on Microsoft Exchange. I opened the Exchange Management Console:
And then I opened the Default Properties, and changed to the Sync Settings tab:
Here I turned on all options, resynced the phone, rebooted and all my issues were solved
Kind Regards,
Nika.
For those of you interested in the rest of the Exchange Security Policy settings, here's screenprints of the other tabs:
Regards,
Nika.
thanks
Nice info
many thanks, this helps much ppl...
Cheers
Lol, thanks. You wouldn't want to know how many times I reinstalled my phone due to this (thank god for Sleuth's UC!!), so I really hope this thread will help people struggling with the same problems if they arise...
Regards,
Nika.
Cert fixed my problem
I noticed that your Exchange 2007 settings had the "Allow nonprovisional devices..." setting still enabled. This was initially the setting I changed in our Exchange 2007 environment that made the difference, however, as others have suggested, this was an unacceptable long term solution and likely not even a possibility if you're not the Exchange Admin.
The solution for me was to export the cert (the same one that is used when logging into your Outlook Webmail) and install the cert on the phone.
The problems described in this thread only became an issue for me when I upgraded to 6.1. I kept the same radio 1.48 so I know it wasn't a radio issue in my case.
I switched the nonprovisional setting off once I installed my cert and the device has had no problems syncing ever since. Compromising policy and security is never the best solution (although still a solution sometimes) so I hope this helps some of you in the same boat as I was in.
Did you have to enable the options on the 'Device' tab as well as I would pretty much want all them features enabled ?
This worries me a bit as my company is about to upgrade to Exchange 2007 and they don't consult users before enabling things like this. I currently use BlackBerry Connect but would prefer to move to native ActiveSync since BBC has some other issues. If it means they are going to lock out all the functionality of my Kaiser then I'll not bother. I'll have to wait and see...
Andy
anyone successfully tethered their tilt with wm6.1?
Absolutely. I do it daily (without a tethering plan even). What kind of problems are you having?
How?

I second that.... I am using Version 1.25 although there is an update to V1.30. I do not want to update since the version I have works flawlessly and I am used to it.
super easy, use file explorer or whatever software you use that does the same thing, go into the phones "windows" folder, go down to the program called internet sharing, copy it. Now go to you folder in the windows folder called "start menu" then "programs" now paste the program here or one of the subfolders. DO NOT PASTE SHORTCUT. now you should be able to go under start menu programs and start the program. You will probably notice that it says something like at&t isp, change that to media net, conect to your computer and press the tab that sais connect and you should be golden.

then don't read it. no one is forcing you to. and allot of people don't have time to sit there and spend hours going through the many other posts that are not what they are looking for.
kemp509 - You rock! Works like a charm. I'm using it as I type this message. I can't wait to use it the next time I'm out of WiFi range.
BTW - I tested my speeds at http://www.speedtest.net/ and it turns out that my AT&T network has faster download speed then my home broadband by 35%! Upload was the same.
Wow...
I guess on my side my mobile connection won't equal my home connection anytime soon

This may be a stupid thing but I get so far and then it wont connect. I get a "Connect Bluetooth Connection" screen asking me for a username and password. What am I doing wrong?
works great
Hey kemp thanks man it works like a charm.. So am i safe from ATT seeing i am useing my laptop. Dont want to see that terhering charge pop up on my bill lol?
Now that I have formally Introduced myself, I'm having issues with Accessing my NAS device. I've searched like crazy on the boards and cant seem to find anything along the issues that I've been having, even going as far as changing some registry items
The NAS Device in question is an Addonics NAS adapter with a Kingston 64GB thumbdrive plugged into it, and it's physically connected by CAT5 cable to my Wireless router - netgear DG834GT. I followed the instructions in the Manuals for getting it started ( quick install, and user manual - both PDF). There are 2 SMB profiles, one that I set up myself with a password, and a Guest profile without a password that was there by default.

and I've been able to access it appropriately the first time, through WIFI, by going through in windows : start -> run -> the Device's assigned IP (\\192.168.0.3) or the device's "name" ("\\kingston64GB) I'm able to get through to the thumbdrive without a problem, I've since applied shortcuts to the drive on My Laptop itself.
However I'm also trying to access the NAS through Both my winmo devices (kaiser and Experia, both running winmo 6.1, stock roms ) over wifi and I'm having no Joy. I've even tried going through The total command program that i saw elsewhere , and I still get the same thing happenening.
I go File explorer -> Menu -> go to -> open path -> new path I enter either the IP or device name that I mentioned Earlier and I get the a screen asking for a username, password and a "Domain"
Neither username and password combo that have been set up work with this, And I don't even know if there's a Correct "domain" for this.
Any help will be much appreciated, thanks in advance
Nas access
Hi deed-elvis,
Think the problem is that your nas system runs a samba server for file sharing. Myself i run a linux server at home and have the same issues.
And i haven't found a way to connect samba using windows mobile
Yup,
I've googled my fingers Raw, and it seems Winmo and Samba Do not want to play with each other.
Even The Tech support people at addonics agree on that front (see attatched)
NAS workaround
I had similar problems, however, there is a workaround: if your nas supports FTP, you can connect in that way. I use total commander on my winmo to connect to my Linux based NAS. For some reason this only seems to work over wifi; it seems that something about the WAN network (AT&T) makes my FTP unhappy.
try with htc network plug in and the share folder must have free access without passwords or user names
@wolframio74 I've tried the NAS setup utility, and at the very least i have to set up a username for it, it doesn't want to let me set up a profile with neither filled in =/
@afgncaap I'll try setting up FTP, I'll let you know how it goes
