Tilt wm6.1 tethering - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

anyone successfully tethered their tilt with wm6.1?

Absolutely. I do it daily (without a tethering plan even). What kind of problems are you having?

How?

Can you share how? I hate paying lots of extra bucks for tethering. I use it extensively and download a lot of stuff.

I hate reading another redundant thread regarding media net and teathering

wireless tethering with WMWiFiRouter is the best way to go. Google it and download.

I second that.... I am using Version 1.25 although there is an update to V1.30. I do not want to update since the version I have works flawlessly and I am used to it.

super easy, use file explorer or whatever software you use that does the same thing, go into the phones "windows" folder, go down to the program called internet sharing, copy it. Now go to you folder in the windows folder called "start menu" then "programs" now paste the program here or one of the subfolders. DO NOT PASTE SHORTCUT. now you should be able to go under start menu programs and start the program. You will probably notice that it says something like at&t isp, change that to media net, conect to your computer and press the tab that sais connect and you should be golden.

then don't read it. no one is forcing you to. and allot of people don't have time to sit there and spend hours going through the many other posts that are not what they are looking for.

kemp509 - You rock! Works like a charm. I'm using it as I type this message. I can't wait to use it the next time I'm out of WiFi range.

BTW - I tested my speeds at http://www.speedtest.net/ and it turns out that my AT&T network has faster download speed then my home broadband by 35%! Upload was the same.

Wow...
I guess on my side my mobile connection won't equal my home connection anytime soon

Simple Yes or No.. MediaNet PPU charges

I have mediaNet unlimited... I just upgraded to the 2.23 rom by summiter which in the connections it shows "myISP" and not mediaNet......
Will I get charged Pay-Per-Usage?
There is no simple answer to is. Using My ISP or Media Net (the only difference is the use of proxy server) does not matter to the billing. I use My ISP all the time w/o being charged PPU. First, make sure PPU is not showing up on your account features. Many times, CSR will forget to take it off when adding Media Net or even PDA connection. Secondly, don't over use the data. If your data usage stands out, Cingular will definitely take a close look at your account and decide you should use Media Net plan and slam you with PPU.
Thanks for the reply.
I think that I will just flash back to the summiter 2.17 rom. I know that I didnt get the PPU charge on it. (just as a precaution) I am almost certain it had MEdiaNet in it in.
let me ask this... is thier a cingular CAB file that will set up the settings ?
why not just use the medianet profile as default if you are worried about it? the settings are in there, just not as default.

You need call and ask them remove that PPU from your account. You're being charged PPU right now.

Agreed... I just loaded the 2.17 rom and all is good now.. the proxy and all that good stuff is in there.
Again, I and many others don't use proxy server because of Wi-Fi issues. As long as PPU feature is not on your account, it really doesn't matter you use proxy server or not. You need call CSR to remove that *feature* from your account regardless. Sooner or later, it will bite you with a huge bill even if you're using proxy server.

Is there an App....

I wanna know if there is an app or something where i can control my t-mobile wing from my laptop without using a USB cable?
not to my knowledge. I've never heard of that.
EDIT : JUST REMEMBERED SOMETHING ... SEE MY POST BELOW
i know motorola phones have a program called "motorola phone tools" that let you do exactly what you are talking about. so your best bet is to see if HTC releases a similar tool.

I used to use MPT all of the time and I always had to have a USB cable connected to the phone to do anything.
There is nothing out there that I have heard of.
Well, come to think of it .... I just realized that MY MOBILIER SHOULD be able to do what you're talking about
which sort of fulfills the role of what motorola phone tools was...
My Mobilier gives you the option to connect via an IP address...
Technically, if you could connect your phone to the same WIFI network as your PC and seeing if it would connect that way? Assuming it would work, My Mobilier has an option that lets you choose between connecting via USB or IP address... I've never tried it ... but apparently it's possible....

i know RDM+ allows you to control your desktop from anywhere using a internet connection. When i used to use it, i never thought about using it the other way. I would assume you would need the phone connected to the internet for this to work.
RDM+ is not freeware, you will have to purchase it. However, it does come with a free trial for u to test before making the decision.

He wants to control the phone from the PC ... not the PC from the phone.
Via Wifi.. hmm.. there are actually many programs wich enables you to connect to and other LAN PC. Like VNC. VNC basicly is a program that allows you to control an other host in your LAN area.
If you know what your PDA's LAN IP is then it should be a possibility.
For Example:
Go to your router settings and look through the hosts and see what your phone;s IP adress is.
Then start VNC and connect to that IP Adress. for example: your PC = 192.168.2.100. And your phone = 192.168.2.150.
Start VNC Server on your Phone wich i will include in this message IF IT WORKS!
open VNC and connect to IP: 192.168.2.150, wich is your phone.
Then a little screen should come up wich has your phone's today screen.
Then you should be able to control it.
EDIT:
OK it works, There are 3 programs that you need. I'll post them here in a ZIP.
First what you need to do is to get RealVNC viewer installed. Wich is VNC 4 1 2 and stuff.
Then you need to put PocketVNC.exe on your phone and start it. Tap ok in the setup screen.
Then install IP Dashboard ( ipdash_setup bla bla ) via Activesync.
This programs allows you to see your LAN IP address of your phone. It'll go on your today screen.
Then open up VNC Viewer on your PC and connect to that IP Address.
Now you can control your phone via Wifi.
Webcam is broken, sry about the vid.
Soti Pocket Controller should allow you to do that.."Connect through your ActiveSync or wired/wireless TCP/IP", listed as one of the features
Provided you can connect the mobile either via Bluetooth or WiFi

Internet Fails Me

I live in a 3G area, and ever since I've started using Custom ROM's, I've noticed that while I can get on pIE and surf the web at regular speeds, programs like Skype cannot access MEdia Net (I've got a Tilt). I've searched around the forum, and I've been unable to find out why only pIE can access a data connection. This also applies to the Windows Mobile email. Thanks
You may have to Able/Disable the proxy settings. Run a forum search on AT&T Proxy settings.
I've checked everything, and my AT&T proxies are correctly configured. Everything is right as far as I can tell. But when I try and get my email through the default outlook thing, it says "Synchronization Error" and then a popup comes up saying that it cant connect with my current settings.
Have you tried this?
Depending on the ROM you may also have to install the default Media Net settings found in a separate CAB.
I've already installed that cab to no avail :O
Sorry.....
OK! Then I'm of no use to you as I have no other answer than flashing back to the OEM ROM. I haven't ran into that problem so my experience at fixing it is limited. Have you tried searching the WIKI or G.W.E.N.I.?
Yeah. I'm still researching. You use an OEM ROM?
My 8525 got a new ROM every week but my Tilt is still stock ROM... I'm happy with how it is for now. Waiting on the official 6.1 to come out and then go from there.
Good luck.....
thanks. I hope I get this sorted out
It fails you huh?

Any how, on to the subject at hand. Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select Network. What are both set to? If you select MEdia Net and Click Edit. Then go to Proxy Settings What does it say>
I had the same problem with email
Here's what I did:
Hit the message key.
Click on the email you want to check (yahoo, aol, gmail, etc...)(must already be set up)
Click Menu
Go to Tools
Click Options
Choose the account you want to change
Click Edit account setup
Hit next 4 times until you get to a screen where it says Outgoing (SMTP) mail server
At the bottom of that screen it says "Advanced Server Settings" Click it
Where it says network connection select "MEdia Net"
Click done
Click next until it says Finish
Then go back to the email you just changed and try to download your email again.
Let us know if the above post fixes your problem and then add **Solved** to the title of this thread.... I'm curious to know.....
Thanks, j1981bl1
I got the problem fixed. After reflashing the ROM about 10000 times, I figured out that manually creating the network connection to wap.cingular instead of isp.cingular fixed the problem. Thanks everyone for the help

isp.cingular, I believe is for Tethering plans. And just regular MEdia Net uses wap.cingular. I think I remembered that correctly. If not someone will correct me.

Why is my TD2 randomly connecting to the internet?

Hi guys!
Could anyone please explain to me, why, although all "data-eating" features are disabled, my phone from time to time is constantly connecting to the internet? Push internet is disabled, automatic weather updates disabled, opera not working, mail receiving set to manual, etc, and it still tries to connect!!! What for??? Is there a way to prevent it without using heavy artillery like "nodata"? Generally, I'd like to understand why the bastard is doing it and feel secure that my phone is not secretly using a data connection in my pocket
Is it quick gps?
Could use some logging program to see what comms it is doing I spose?
I'm new to Win Mob so I don't have a name for one atm, but should be possible to google.
Discovered the same phenomenon, my device was surfing the web for more than 4 hours yesterday before I discovered. I disconnected the connection manually, after 10 minutes it was surfing again. T-Mobile says: Windows Mobile is doing it, there is no way of preventing it, but upon request they would terminate my mobile internet for good to "solve" the problem. I wonder what these people smoke these days....
Greetings, Studebaker
me too yesterday, just installed nodata...
Hello,
I am new one to WM, but I was wondering about it few days and I can say that you can stop it.
1. - you need to stop PUSH Pages in Internet - this is the most important, because I had there 5 pages prepared for Push internet and they were loading every 6 hours
2. stop Push Email
3. of course you can stop Quick GPS, but it is connecting once a week
You need to shut down the browser through the Exit command not only the corner cross.
After that it is not connecting

Yes, I've been wondering what's the good of 'exiting' Opera when you really haven't exited it at all. Why would HTC want to hide Opera from the taskmanager when it's really still running? It doesn't make sense.

It's Opera itself declaring itself to be a background process. There are many of these running all the time. I've just cleared all the items from the 'task manager' in the top corner of the UI, yet my device still has 20 tasks running.

So you're saying it's not TF3D in my TD2 that's making the difference, but the version of Opera that differs from the one on my TD1?

I suspect so. It'll be remaining in the background in order to do the push internet stuff I reckon.
You can remove it from the "System Exception List" under:
HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System\Opera9.exe
HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System\OperaL.exe
I just renamed these keys to:
Opera9.exe_
and OperaL.exe_
Restart the device afterwards!!!!

Accessing NAS - Addonics adaptor using Kiaser+Experia/WM6.1

Now that I have formally Introduced myself, I'm having issues with Accessing my NAS device. I've searched like crazy on the boards and cant seem to find anything along the issues that I've been having, even going as far as changing some registry items
The NAS Device in question is an Addonics NAS adapter with a Kingston 64GB thumbdrive plugged into it, and it's physically connected by CAT5 cable to my Wireless router - netgear DG834GT. I followed the instructions in the Manuals for getting it started ( quick install, and user manual - both PDF). There are 2 SMB profiles, one that I set up myself with a password, and a Guest profile without a password that was there by default.

and I've been able to access it appropriately the first time, through WIFI, by going through in windows : start -> run -> the Device's assigned IP (\\192.168.0.3) or the device's "name" ("\\kingston64GB) I'm able to get through to the thumbdrive without a problem, I've since applied shortcuts to the drive on My Laptop itself.
However I'm also trying to access the NAS through Both my winmo devices (kaiser and Experia, both running winmo 6.1, stock roms ) over wifi and I'm having no Joy. I've even tried going through The total command program that i saw elsewhere , and I still get the same thing happenening.
I go File explorer -> Menu -> go to -> open path -> new path I enter either the IP or device name that I mentioned Earlier and I get the a screen asking for a username, password and a "Domain"
Neither username and password combo that have been set up work with this, And I don't even know if there's a Correct "domain" for this.
Any help will be much appreciated, thanks in advance
Nas access
Hi deed-elvis,
Think the problem is that your nas system runs a samba server for file sharing. Myself i run a linux server at home and have the same issues.
And i haven't found a way to connect samba using windows mobile
Yup,
I've googled my fingers Raw, and it seems Winmo and Samba Do not want to play with each other.
Even The Tech support people at addonics agree on that front (see attatched)
NAS workaround
I had similar problems, however, there is a workaround: if your nas supports FTP, you can connect in that way. I use total commander on my winmo to connect to my Linux based NAS. For some reason this only seems to work over wifi; it seems that something about the WAN network (AT&T) makes my FTP unhappy.
try with htc network plug in and the share folder must have free access without passwords or user names
@wolframio74 I've tried the NAS setup utility, and at the very least i have to set up a username for it, it doesn't want to let me set up a profile with neither filled in =/
@afgncaap I'll try setting up FTP, I'll let you know how it goes
