Has anyone else noticed that the option to enter the mobile number/email address for DirectPush is no longer available? I thought the option to enter the number was in the ActiveSync settings, but I have been through every menu and cannot find the input option anywhere.
Did the functionality of DirectPush change, and Exchange is now able to determine on its own what the address should be?
Thanks.
-Ari
This is gone because that phone number wasn't used for "direct push". That was used for exchange to send a Text Message to the phone telling it to activesync. Now that direct push is available, its essentially connected to exchange all the time and will receive those updates as-needed without the need for a Text Message to be sent.
Hope this clears things up a bit...
I had the same thing happen to me, but it was when Mail2Web upgraded their Exchange server to support DirectPush. Until that point (even with AKU2), there was the option for the notification number. After, poof, it was gone.
So, there's a good chance that if your Exchange server was upgraded, you would not have noticed this change until you went to reconfigure your Wiz after reflashing.
Yup - sure does. Thanks!
Seems that this would drain the battery rather quickly, keeping the cellular connection live all the time?
-Ari
I have DirectPush enabled and I usually get 2-3 days per charge with light phone use (when I don't do huge amounts of surfing or other downloading)
Mine keeps locking up if I leave DirectPush running... Odd...
where do you enter your push settings? our IT gave me the settings but i have no clue where to put them

I found an article that describes how DirectPush works:
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials...ng-Part1-Microsoft-DirectPush-technology.html
"DirectPush technology maintains an HTTPS connection between the Exchange server and the mobile device, a session which is kept alive by using heartbeats. This way the Exchange server can notify a mobile device whether or not there’s a change in the associated mailbox, and if a change occurs in the mailbox, the server can initiate a synchronization. Since the device keeps an open session to the Exchange server, some of you might think this could become rather expensive. But fear not because the device simply sits there and waits for a response, it doesn’t send or receive any data when it’s in this pending state. Said in another way, no data will travel over the wire, unless a change is detected in the mailbox, or the heartbeat expires. To get a more visualized picture of how the DirectPush technology works, see Figure 1 below."

Because the mobile device doesn’t send any empty syncs, the device reduces its power consumption which again increases battery life, and data charges are reduced significantly. It’s also worth noting that any data synchronized between the mailbox and the devices are compressed using GZIP compression.[/b]

You configure the schedule for ActiveSync and set it to "As they arrive," which will basically enable the DirectPush features.
As stated earlier, if you can get ActiveSync to work directly to the server (without using a cable or bluetooth), DirectPush should work. Once ActiceSync is functional, change the schedule for sync and the DirectPush should work.
okay so i need to make sure active sync is on my work computer got it and then configure it threw the work. Now if my computer here is already set up through server exchange do i just have to enable the sync in active sync?
The only time you'll be prompted for your device's email-to-SMS address is when Always Up To Date notifications are eneabled on the server. These are usually left enabled to support legacy devices.

I'm a little confused here. Once you've installed SP2 on your Exchange 2003 server and you have an AKU2 device, the entire scheduling fiasco is gone. There's no schedule configuration. Maybe I'm missing a piece of your puzzle here??

Scheduling is an option that you could enable if you were so inclined... That way you can disable syncronization at night, or set up a schedule that fits your personal schedule. It is for maximum flexibility, I guess.

is it possible to just remove the entry for "Outlook email" from showing up in the drop down list in the messaging screen?
I have
GMail
Outlook E-mail

Tigermail
but I would like Outlook to not even show up on that list? Is there anywhere in the registry it can be removed? I don't want to uninstall it, just make it not appear in that menu.
Thank you!!

yes you can do that... all you need to do is go into your active sync and go to sync options and uncheck all the section that have email.
That didn't work. I still have Outlook in the menu

Looks the same as the screen shot on my Wing.
If you actually use Outlook, it probably won't clear until you remove evrything in it. Just a hunch, I have no factual data for my guess. I was able to remove from ActiveSync, but I never used it.

When I am in messaging there is a drop down option which has all the different accounts. I was a little thrown off by the picture at first too.
there is nothing in Outlook. I've never used it, never touched it... nothing in there at all.
I was able to get the Outlook account to disappear from my Messaging account list by renaming the registry key :
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\ActiveSync
to
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\ActiveSyncx

by doing this, you will lose the capability to hear a sound when you receive a text message.
Yes, I also lost the notification sounds. A less than ideal situation.
Doing this didn't remove "outlook" from my messaging ... it only literally renamed it in the folder list ... so know it just shows up in the list as whatever new name it was renamed to
Anyone have any new info on this by any chance?
If there is a way to do it i would like to know as well, i never use outlook and it takes up unnecessery space...
yeah, I think it's annoying as hell in the messaging list.
it would be nice if we could figure out how to make it simply just not show up. There has to be some really simple way to suppress it.
Bringing this back up to see if there is a solution yet.
When First syncing my phone I had the email checked to sync and Outlook showed up. I had to clear storage on my phone and when I set up the new partnership, making sure email wasnt checked, Outlook is no longer in my options. I dont know if this is ideal for you for the risk of resetting to the defaults, but thats the only way I know to get rid of it.

Is it just after syncing or when you first set up the sync partnership? Because as you are setting up the partnership, if it is checked, it wont go away later (ie unchecking during a sync).
Evening all,
I've written an email spoofer for Windows Mobile as I couldn't find one on here and there's nothing more fun than winding your mates up. It works via WIFI and all you have to know is your ISPs SMTP address, in most cases you've already entered this in Outlook. Suggested List Here Mine is SMTP.ntlworld.com as my isp is virgin media.
I didn't want to go down the route of the mobile providers SMTP address as it's tracable, with this, if you're not on your WIFI, it's not tracable, but I wouldn't recommend doing anything naughty as it's not worth the risk... just keep it to your mates!!
Run the CAB file on your phone, it'll create a FakeMail folder in the root of your device and away you go!! Get ordering your mates the latest 'bottom toys' from SexShop.com!!!
To add text to a 'combobox', type it in the 'text input' box, then click the '+' button for the one you want to put it in. No ... I don't know how to use comboboxes in Windows Mobile!!
You can also edit the txt files that record everything found in the FakeMail directory.
Cheers
phil

Windows Vista / XP Version... Now with added SMTP server authentication!!
Now with added SMTP server authentication!!
I've ported it to Vista and XP because I couldn't for the life of me find one that worked on Vista anywhere on the web .... obviously the Vista version will only work on a PC and the original FakeMail CAB will only work on Windows Mobile, Everything works the same with text files being created in the applications directory to store previous email addresses / settings.
If you're running Norton Internet Security you may need to turn off 'outgoing email scanning' the pointless waste of time that it is.
Almost forgot ... to attach a picture all you have to press is the '+' button.
Looks like fun, gonna try it out. Will let you know how it works!
Cheers!!
It's only the initial release ... next versions going to incorporate a WIFI sniffer so it'll alert you when you're near a open WIFI point.
I've lost the will to live ......
Can anyone help? Sending the email via WIFI's easy, there loads of help on the web which explains just how to program an application to do it.
The question I have is why an app that works via wifi, wont work via umts??? Can anyone point me to a code example that'll help ... I'm looking for sending email via UMTS.
My TyTN Outlook works fine sending / recieving on both UMTS or WIFI ... the source code would be nice!!
Cheers
Phil
what is this program i dont understand what it does exactly
thanks in advance
You can easily write emails to your mates and it'll look like it's come from anyones email address you like.
All this without the hassle of setting up accounts etc ...
Do any of the c# programmers on here know how to get emails working over the phone and not WIFI?
I'm not taking about sending via the account you've set up on the phone in Outlook because I still want to spoof the email address... I spent 6 hours researching it on the web today and apparently you can only send via GSM/UMTS if you send your email via a valid, already defined Outlook account which then means you've lost the ability to spoof the from address.
It should work without the need for wifi shouldn't it? I mean after some modifications obviously.
I remember about 4-5 years ago here in the UK you could sent e-mails from your mobile just as you would normally, BUT in the field "from" you could write ANY e-mail address and it would work just fine! Also it was absolutely free(incl. sending pictures n videos via email). Lasted for months. Mobile operator "3".
You would have thought so but I spent 6 hours researching it but it seems that you cant use the normal method which is easy but establish a connection via UMTS/GSM and then do the sending.
I'll have a look again in a few months.
Here's another list of SMTP servers if you're having problems finding your own.

Tried this - still says "Email Failed". Is it something to do with my provider?
yeah it doesn't work for me either, i tried gmail, yahoo, hotmail, and optonline smtp servers, i have accounts with all of them and none worked for me
You can't use gmail/hotmail or alike to send what is basically SPAM .. the network boys lock their servers down so you need to login before you can do anything.
You need to use the SMTP server of the Wifi network you're connected to...
My broadband supplier is ntlworld .... so I use "smtp.ntlworld.com" ... If I use my nieghbours WIFI which is TalkTalk I would use "smtp.talktalk.net" .. if I tried to send via "smtp.ntlworld.com" it wouldn't work. Simple.
Guys,
I've flashed 3 leak Froyo Firmware on my SGS, JPM the latest I flashed today. I still having the old issue I experience in old leak Froyo.
I didn't see anyone complain about it, Am I the only 1 here with that issue?
Firmware : (Leak) JPM Froyo
Root : Not
Lagfix : Not install
Exchange version: Exchange 2003
Issues I faced
1. Contact download is very slow (50 contacts 1 time, and I have more than 550 contacts stored in my Exchange 2003.
2. Keep giving me FC on all applications after I setup the Exchange profile.
Am I the only 1 facing this issue?
XWJPA and XXJPO leaked last night, I decide to give these Froyo another try, and to find out if my Exchange issue still persist.
Last night I've confirmed that it's the Calendar giving me problem (not contact). By just sync the contact without Calendar option, the Froyo is working fine. And this morning, a good break through.
I almost certain it's partly mine and Samsung (or Google) fault.
I did changes on my events, and looks like it working fine (so far)
What happen is that I had few recurrence events (friend's birthday, public Holiday and etc) recorded in Exchange Calendar with no end looping date, and some with ended at year 2032!

I guess that's beyond Froyo calendar can handle, so it get stuck and failed to sync while try to insert event happen at 2032.
What I did is to limit all recurrence events with 2-3 occurrences (nothing go beyond 2012, since the world will be end at 2012 ).
Get all reminder for today almost instantly after I did that tweaking and enable auto-sync.
PS: My no end looping Exchange Calendar working at Eclair, so I need to blame Samsung/Google for that
Hope to share this out and able to help those who suffer the similar problem. it's a good day
Battery drain also
I got many FC's in agenda related apps when i installed the Scandinavian Froyo through Kies. I already had a feeling it wat related to a specific appointment. My HTC Desire would sometimes get stuck on syncing the agenda, with vague warnings like 'Server conversion error'. These errors are now known to be related to certain appointments, mostly recurring ones.
A Factory Reset solved the FC's for the most part.
Currently , i find that setting the Email retrieve interval of any Exchange account to anything else than 'Never' results in a constant 10% CPU load (even when the phone is asleep), halving battery life. I set the retrieval to Never for the moment, an alternative is to let Tasker start and stop the Email app every hour or so.
I will investigate my recurring appointments.
Update: sure, i had two recurring events without an end date.. Still, enabling email retrieval say every 1 hour on 1 of my Exchange accounts makes the Email process use 4-5% cpu continiously while the phone is asleep, resulting in taking the systemprocess a few % of cpu also. So setting email retrieval to 'never' makes cpu drop when idle from around 9% to 1-3 %...

Setting the email retrieval to "Push" diminishes my CPU usage to normal levels (1-3% while phone is asleep), any timed retrieval (5-60 minutes) makes the CPU jump to a steady 8-10%
Hi,
I just got a new Sony Xperia TX and set it up on my Wi-Fi connection. I found it really slow even though the Wi-Fi connection is excellent.
I tried turning the phone off and then back on again but the slow internet connection remains. Sometimes apps etc work as they should and quite quickly but most of the time they don't. By in large the loading screen appears when I try to connect to PlayStore or Chrome browser or twitter etc.
I can't figure it out, its like there is something wrong but I don't know how to fix it. I bought the phone on Ebay and I am just wondering maybe its not built to the same spec as what you would get in a phone store. Any ideas ?

Well the phone has been running a lot quicker than when I got it but there is still a small bit of hit and miss. Even though I have WiFi the phone sometimes has problems downloaded emails from Hotmail or some apps would not load up first time. I would restart them and most of the time the app. Why it wouldn't work first time is odd. For a few days there I could not connect to Hotmail and download emails even though I could in the browser. Other times it would not load up an email from the menu.
Any ideas ?

As far as i know You have to set them up manually. Look for the settings in Google, there are numerous sites with settings for hot mail.

Hi,
I am using corporate mail on Mail application, POP account SSL security,
Also, I have same setup for Microsoft Outlook on laptop,
Sometime, I am re-receiving old mails, which I deleted on phone and mail server, but not in Outlook.
Any ideas why this is heppening?
I noticed that this "pantom" mails I receive after I use Outlook.
It is not big problem, but sometime it is annoing.
Also, when I flash my Note with new ROM and set-up mail account, I am receiving dosens of mails, which are currently deleted from server, is it possible that those mails recovered from Titanium backup? (I am doing "restore data" for some applications after I flash new ROM, including Mail APK, but still I need to manually configure mail account, because Titanium is not restoring mail setting)
first is sync setting in outlook vs phone. check those.
I dont get the phantom part.
anyways in titanium you can restore email separate from accounts which is why you have to set it up manually
why not set it to push and have it synched via your email instead of restoring it? that way you prevent certain scenarios
Next time when you backup your app with titanium backup make sure that in preference there is a option backup external data is on/selected

I do not have synced Outlook with phone, because in Outlook I have almost all received and sent mail (outlook file size is around 1gb) and in phone I keep most important ones
Under "phantom" I mean mails, which should not be there, because they where deleted on my phone and on mailserver too, and sometime I am receiving mail notofications without sender, or theme details, like this one:

Thanks for advice, I will check it!
cool,
sync I mean outlook to mailserver (update one way/twoway, keep/delete on both etc), the same for phone to server. Those kind of settings. Its strange on server the messages look like they remain deleted there.
phantoms are weird, buggers, havent seen it myself thought.
I guess with menu button, or in settings from your mail app you can put sorting newest on top perhaps.

I checked, setup is according parameters, which is standard for most mail application,
mailbox type both phone and Outlook is POP3, just one difference (defined by me) from phone when I delete mail, it doesn't deletes on server, but from Outlook it does,
Also, recently I noticed, that my Gmail account is not syncing correctly: if receive mail on Phone and read, archive or delete them, still when I open gmail from browser those mails are shown as unread
