[Resolved] Exchange 2003 issue with (leak) Froyo, Am I the only one? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys,
I've flashed 3 leak Froyo Firmware on my SGS, JPM the latest I flashed today. I still having the old issue I experience in old leak Froyo.
I didn't see anyone complain about it, Am I the only 1 here with that issue?
Firmware : (Leak) JPM Froyo
Root : Not
Lagfix : Not install
Exchange version: Exchange 2003
Issues I faced
1. Contact download is very slow (50 contacts 1 time, and I have more than 550 contacts stored in my Exchange 2003.
2. Keep giving me FC on all applications after I setup the Exchange profile.
Am I the only 1 facing this issue?

XWJPA and XXJPO leaked last night, I decide to give these Froyo another try, and to find out if my Exchange issue still persist.
Last night I've confirmed that it's the Calendar giving me problem (not contact). By just sync the contact without Calendar option, the Froyo is working fine. And this morning, a good break through.
I almost certain it's partly mine and Samsung (or Google) fault.
I did changes on my events, and looks like it working fine (so far)
What happen is that I had few recurrence events (friend's birthday, public Holiday and etc) recorded in Exchange Calendar with no end looping date, and some with ended at year 2032!

I guess that's beyond Froyo calendar can handle, so it get stuck and failed to sync while try to insert event happen at 2032.
What I did is to limit all recurrence events with 2-3 occurrences (nothing go beyond 2012, since the world will be end at 2012 ).
Get all reminder for today almost instantly after I did that tweaking and enable auto-sync.
PS: My no end looping Exchange Calendar working at Eclair, so I need to blame Samsung/Google for that
Hope to share this out and able to help those who suffer the similar problem. it's a good day

Battery drain also
I got many FC's in agenda related apps when i installed the Scandinavian Froyo through Kies. I already had a feeling it wat related to a specific appointment. My HTC Desire would sometimes get stuck on syncing the agenda, with vague warnings like 'Server conversion error'. These errors are now known to be related to certain appointments, mostly recurring ones.
A Factory Reset solved the FC's for the most part.
Currently , i find that setting the Email retrieve interval of any Exchange account to anything else than 'Never' results in a constant 10% CPU load (even when the phone is asleep), halving battery life. I set the retrieval to Never for the moment, an alternative is to let Tasker start and stop the Email app every hour or so.
I will investigate my recurring appointments.
Update: sure, i had two recurring events without an end date.. Still, enabling email retrieval say every 1 hour on 1 of my Exchange accounts makes the Email process use 4-5% cpu continiously while the phone is asleep, resulting in taking the systemprocess a few % of cpu also. So setting email retrieval to 'never' makes cpu drop when idle from around 9% to 1-3 %...

Go to Calendar -> View, change to list view
that view give you a better understanding how many repeated event you have

Possible breakthrough
I came across this: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9307&q=aosp%20email&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars
Setting the email retrieval to "Push" diminishes my CPU usage to normal levels (1-3% while phone is asleep), any timed retrieval (5-60 minutes) makes the CPU jump to a steady 8-10%

HTC/Cingular 2.25 (June 19) and DirectPush Settings

Has anyone else noticed that the option to enter the mobile number/email address for DirectPush is no longer available? I thought the option to enter the number was in the ActiveSync settings, but I have been through every menu and cannot find the input option anywhere.
Did the functionality of DirectPush change, and Exchange is now able to determine on its own what the address should be?
Thanks.
-Ari
This is gone because that phone number wasn't used for "direct push". That was used for exchange to send a Text Message to the phone telling it to activesync. Now that direct push is available, its essentially connected to exchange all the time and will receive those updates as-needed without the need for a Text Message to be sent.
Hope this clears things up a bit...
I had the same thing happen to me, but it was when Mail2Web upgraded their Exchange server to support DirectPush. Until that point (even with AKU2), there was the option for the notification number. After, poof, it was gone.
So, there's a good chance that if your Exchange server was upgraded, you would not have noticed this change until you went to reconfigure your Wiz after reflashing.
Yup - sure does. Thanks!
Seems that this would drain the battery rather quickly, keeping the cellular connection live all the time?
-Ari
I have DirectPush enabled and I usually get 2-3 days per charge with light phone use (when I don't do huge amounts of surfing or other downloading)
Mine keeps locking up if I leave DirectPush running... Odd...
where do you enter your push settings? our IT gave me the settings but i have no clue where to put them

I found an article that describes how DirectPush works:
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials...ng-Part1-Microsoft-DirectPush-technology.html
"DirectPush technology maintains an HTTPS connection between the Exchange server and the mobile device, a session which is kept alive by using heartbeats. This way the Exchange server can notify a mobile device whether or not there’s a change in the associated mailbox, and if a change occurs in the mailbox, the server can initiate a synchronization. Since the device keeps an open session to the Exchange server, some of you might think this could become rather expensive. But fear not because the device simply sits there and waits for a response, it doesn’t send or receive any data when it’s in this pending state. Said in another way, no data will travel over the wire, unless a change is detected in the mailbox, or the heartbeat expires. To get a more visualized picture of how the DirectPush technology works, see Figure 1 below."

Because the mobile device doesn’t send any empty syncs, the device reduces its power consumption which again increases battery life, and data charges are reduced significantly. It’s also worth noting that any data synchronized between the mailbox and the devices are compressed using GZIP compression.[/b]

You configure the schedule for ActiveSync and set it to "As they arrive," which will basically enable the DirectPush features.
As stated earlier, if you can get ActiveSync to work directly to the server (without using a cable or bluetooth), DirectPush should work. Once ActiceSync is functional, change the schedule for sync and the DirectPush should work.
okay so i need to make sure active sync is on my work computer got it and then configure it threw the work. Now if my computer here is already set up through server exchange do i just have to enable the sync in active sync?
The only time you'll be prompted for your device's email-to-SMS address is when Always Up To Date notifications are eneabled on the server. These are usually left enabled to support legacy devices.

I'm a little confused here. Once you've installed SP2 on your Exchange 2003 server and you have an AKU2 device, the entire scheduling fiasco is gone. There's no schedule configuration. Maybe I'm missing a piece of your puzzle here??

Scheduling is an option that you could enable if you were so inclined... That way you can disable syncronization at night, or set up a schedule that fits your personal schedule. It is for maximum flexibility, I guess.

HELP! Sync Problems!

OK, I've searched up and down, xda, win4mobile,
here is my deal,
I have the ATT Tilt,
flashed with htc's rom, ive been having trouble getting it to sync,
now that i have it synced, it won't sync my calender or tasks???
It says sync error, "ActiveSync encountered a problem on the desktop."
fyi, I use windows mobile device center 6.1,
I am so frustrated and have no idea what to do, i feel like just picking this phone
up and hurling it onto concrete, help xda,
thanks.
Not sure if it will help you, but I encountered sync problems because I was in OFF-line mode with MS Outlook. Somehow ActiveSync needs to be On-line to enablesync with your PocketPC...
forgot to say i use windows mobile device center 6.1 because i run vista,
somebody HELP ME!
Did you try the obvious?
* Delete partnership
* Restarting the PC and Device
I had an issue and it was due to me using Windows Live OneCare. You might want to check your antivirus or firewall. It could be blocking the access.

Your not the only one.
I have the Tilt (stock ROM) and am using Activesync 4.5 and Outlook 2007.
I have this set up to sync my contacts & calendar. My contacts sync fine.
I have my Outlook calendar set up to sync automatically with my Google calendar, this is working fine.
The problem is, that nothing from my outlook calendar is syncing with the phone.
I have tried deleting the partnership and re doing everything but that does not work.
Do you run multiple Outlook profiles? For example, I have one that connects to my work Exchange e-mail and one for personal accounts. I can only sync with the personal accounts profile on the desktop, and if Outlook isn't open with that profile or I have the Exchange profile open it'll fail to sync.
I only use one profile and don't even use it for any e-mail. Only contacts & calendar.
Have you tried creating a new mail profile on the pc and syncing with that?
If that works, then just set your mail accounts up on the new profile and import your pst data (unless you have an exchange server).
I think I figured out the problem but I still dont know how to fix it.
ActiveSync is syncing the standard calendar which is blank and not my internet calendar which is listed in Outlook as "other calendar"
Is there any way to sync the "other calendar"??

That would explain it. I don't believe you can do this through ActiveSync, but can through third party apps like GCalendarSync or OggSync for Google Calendar.

[Q] Exchange Calendar sync problem

Hi to All,
I'm a newbie both to forum and to android and am finding the new operating system
frustrating.
I need to sync my work Outlook Exchange email and calendar. I've managed to receive, send and access my emails (thought the filing structure could be a whole lot better) and sync my contacts. My problem is that I cannot get my work calendar to work/sync with my Galaxy S even though my handset is set to sync contacts, it's driving me mad.
I have tried "touchdown" and "K9" mail handlers without success.
As a convert from iphone, which worked perfectly, I'm beginning to regret my decision.
Does anyone know if this is a problem with android or can offer any advice.
I should mention that I don't understand the whole google mail thing, even though I have a account.
Also, i have tried and am very fed up with resetting to factory defaults in attempts to resolve my issue.
Thanks in advance.
It looks to me that the settings are correct, have you got that calendar showing? Settings, agenda's, select the work calendar.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Thanks for your reply weirder,
I should have mentioned (!) that that when I try to launch calendar I get the message
"sorry, the application calendar storage (process com.android.calendar) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" with the only option to force close.
Presumably, when you say "Settings, agenda's, select the work calendar", I would only get these options if I could launch calendar?
Thanks
I would really appreciate some help here.
Does anyone else have issues with the calendar crashing or sync with outlook calendar.
Like many others, I really like this handset and am desperately hoping that samsung see fit to address the issues that spoil an otherwise superb product.
I want the new Tab when it's released in the uk, but am worried I'll have more of the same silly issues
I've not long changed from 2.1 to 2.2 andriod on my SGS. Ths standard exchange sync workd for me along with touchdown, i even had K9mail running as well until I sussed that I could use the phones exchange, and mainly used touchdown for tasks and calendar. TD calendar allows you to add a catogory.
2.2 is also working well for me i'm even using the 'push' hotmail setting on an exchange account.
Sorry it dosn't help you out though.
Well, I have nearly the same problem!
I have an own server running with Zarafa + Z-push. I can sync my contacts and mails without any problems, but my calender is unsynct. The only difference is, that I can use my phones calender and don't get a FC.
I played around a bit yesterday an found out something interesting.
Thx to adirtymonkey for the tip with touchdown.
Whe a use touchdown I can sync everything without any problems as long as I use Touchdown to manage the calendar and so on. Unfortunately the stock calendar ist empty. Contacs are visible in both, stock and touchdown. I recognized, that I can chose to insert new contacts either in phone, sim, goggle, business or touchdown. New calender entries can only go to own calender or google. Here is the problem, there is just the exchange (business) calender missing i think!
Before playing around with zarafa and z-push over Active sync I tried to use a SyncML client with egroupware. Here I hand a similar problem. Beside my business (exchange) account, it seemed that the syncML client (synthesis) made another accout and wanted to sync to this one. Trying to create a new account gave me alwas a FC, deleting synthesis helped to recover the problem.
Btw, I'm using JPC firmware atm. I will try JM7 these days.

You are right, its the settings in the calendar app.
FC isnt a good thing. Does it "Force close" if you remove the synchronisation to that exchange server? Or only if you got the sync enabled?
Could be there is a problem in there.
Dustymil59,
You are not alone, I experience the same issue in the past.
What I did to over come this (don't guarantee this will work, but at least it works for me)
I usually do this first time right after I flash my firmware and rooted, so you may need to consider to enter recovery mode and clear all user setting before you start this.
1. Setup one account one after the other.
Do not setup google and exchange at one go, and let the 2 accounts sync back to back.
Go to Settings > Account and Sync > Add Account.
2.I usually setup google account first (for market access), but I will only allow contact and gmail sync from google. I have calendar and picasa web sync disabled. Allow gmail and contact sync complete the run. You may also check that all your google contacts sync to your phone before move the step #3.
3. Setup exchange account after #2, the objective is to allow first Exchange sync without any issue. For the first timem allow only sync for 1 day (do not select even 3 days). And allow your exchange first sync run until it finish. (the sync duration vary, I have more than 3000 calendar events, my first sync takes around 30 min to complete).
My Setting > "Push", Sync for 1 day, sync contact, sync calendar (you can change the setting here after the first sync is completed)
4. While exchange sync is running, let the phone idle, do not leave the add account sync and do not attempt to on calendar while exchange calendar doing the first sync, high chance that you will experience force close and the sync will be halted.
5. To confirm the exchange calendar has been sync down without opening calendar, download agenda widget, pull it out at the desktop, configure it to show your exchange calendar by the "calendars" tab (do not touch on "Manage calendar" option in agenda widget setting too, FC is expected during your first exchange calendar sync)

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
You should see all your category at this tab before all the sync complete
PS: It's not that your calendar will not sync, but it will be come harder to get the entire calendar after the first attempt failed.
From my experience, I got the entire calendar sync down 1 week after my first attempt failed, that was because I leave my phone idle over the weekend.
PS again: Notice the email program allow you to setup a name (which is optional) at the end of the email setup, try to stick with the same name, else SGS will create multiple name in Agenda Widget and at the end confuse you yourself.
Let me know the step above helps.

my calendar has the following setup which i suspect makes the calendar sync tends to fail.
1. multiple repeated event (like every month end, need to have month reports preparation, weekly meeting and etc) with no end date
2. add in chinese lunar calendar as secondary calendar and have repeated event on that calendar
3. > 3,000 events (close to 4,000 now) within the last 2 years.
So you can see the amount of data sync is a lot.
Hi,
I have experienced a strange syncing behavior:
It does sync only in one direction: downwards.
If I make a new item in the calendar on my destop PC, it comes to my phone "immediately".
But if I make an appointment on the phone (and of course I choose the exchange calendar for the place), it won't show up on my desktop. I tried to sync manually, with Outlook running or closed, but no success, the appointment remains only on my phone...
Therefore this syncing method is totally useless for me...
firmware that you are using?

Contact Auto Sync Problems?

Hello,
Having problems with my contact auto sync, Im not sure what is causing it or why, but it seems that there is no way can get the autosync icon to go away. When I add and remove contact, and I turn sync off and on, the changes are made and seen on the phone as well as google contacts on the web, however I always have that icon present. YES, I have tried clearning data and cache from the contacts storage, contacts, and google contacts apps, with no change. I have removed my account and re-added it on my phone, with no change. I have removed all of my contacts from the website (google calendar) after exporting them, and still same sync problem with no contacts! Any help would be much appreciated!

I have had similar random sync problems with my main google account on the phone. However, despite reporting an error it usually syncs anyway. Other than a re-flash (sounds like it would totally fix your issue), not sure what to do.
Also, HaxSync JB workaround is no longer necessary for any 4.2.x release. Perhaps this is causing some issue. Good luck, let us know what fixes it!

Can't share contacts. "Messenger failed to load attachment."

I am tearing my hair out over this. I use text messages to share contacts. Or at least I used to. This feature recently stopped working on my Nexus 6 (stock). To share, I select a Contact from Contacts, click the 3-dots, select Share and select Messenger. The moment I provide a contact to share to, I get the error message "Messenger failed to load attachment".
When I do a full factory reset, the feature works. But after it does the updates, I start getting the error. I have tried all the usual tricks like resetting app defaults, deleting app cache in both Contacts and Messenger. I even tried the factor reset option from Recovery instead of from Settings. Same result. Nothing seems to help. My wife has the same phone (only hers is the 32gb model and mine is 64gb) and she doesn't get the error.
Any ideas?
Phone is currently at Android 6.0.1, totally stock. The only thing I've done with Contacts is to use MyPhoneExplorer to sync them with Outlook. I even tried deleting the MPE Client after syncing and it still does it so I don't think it's MPE. (And my wife also runs MPE and hers is fine.)
Is this due to the Google messenger update? Mine just updated today which is odd since it says it updated 8/29

I tried uninstalling the Messenger updates to go back to factory version and that didn't cure the problem.
Just FYI...I got an update earlier this afternoon for the stock Google Messenger app. Just now I tested it myself and was able to forward my contact card from my personal mobile number to my work mobile number without any problems.
So, IMHO, any problems don't seem to be related to the update of the Google Messenger app.
I'm starting to isolate the problem down to Contacts, not Messenger. I'm not sure what's going on. When I deleted ALL Contacts and then just put in two contacts for testing, things worked fine. I'm beginning to think that SOMETHING in MyPhoneExplorer, which I used normally to sync Contacts with Outlook, is corrupting something in the Contacts database which is causing the error.

OK, I did some more testing and what I found is that if I synchronize my Contacts with Outlook using MyPhoneExplorer, those contacts cannot be shared via Messenger. It's as if there is something extra in them that screws up the vCard. If I sync Contacts ONLY with Google, they share via Messenger fine. That sux because I use MPE to do more than just Outlook syncing. It's really a great tool. I have posted this issue in the FJSoft forums (MPE maker).
