Hi,
I'm going to buy an xda mini s after seeing my mates, but it would not work with my vauxhall factory-fit carkit, not only did it not share the phonebook over bluetooth like my Nokia 6280 but it also kept disconnecting after about 20 seconds even if you weren't making a call.
From reading this forum i've gathered that the AKU that is out for Windows Mobile 5 will sort the phonebook sharing and possibly sort out the connection issue as well but what I haven't gathered is which rom's do what. I'm not going to ask which rom is best as I can see it's not as simple as that, but if someone could suggest a few roms that might be suitable for an uk o2 sim card and will have the aku. I'm not fussed about it having extra software in, i only want it to work with my carkit and do push mail with exchange 2003 sp2.
Any help you can give me would be appreciated, I have made the effort to read the forums, but I'm a little overwhelmed by the amount of information !!
Cheers
Andy
hi, ive got a bluetooth car kit and dont have no probs, mine doesnt have the capability to share the phone book but i havent had any connection issues. ive flashed the Mr.Clean ROM to my T-mobile UK MDA and seems to be good. it has push e-mail and AKU2. been using it for a few weeks and seems fine. hope this helps a little.

Hi
I Have had my PDA2K for nearly a year and I have to say it has been the most unreliable phone I have ever owned.
I have updated it with all the latest ROMs and STILL I get calls where th e other end cannot hear me, where I have to reboot because it runs out of some memory area and cannot enable Bluetooth, it crashes.
It won't reconnect to GPRS after a voice call, poor bluetooth reception, people complaining they can hear funny noises when I am on bluetooth need I go on?
I was thinking of getting the XDAIIi and using it on the Vodafone network but what I need to know is am I trading one problematic phone for another?
Once I am off the O2 network how do I get ROM upgrades what are the gotcha's that are going to get me?
THis may have been asked before but I could not see and any help would be gratefully accepted.
Robin
Robin,
XDA 2i is not much different than what you have, it just has an enhanced processor and is WIFI enabled, Thats all. It also depends upon the hardware, most of the people get lucky with good ones and few of them unlucky. but in the end of the day, the Key to keep these kind of phones clean and dont stuff too many softwares into it, if kept in original form they could do wonders too.
All the best

Kunal

These are known issues with the Blue Angel. Carrier Devices is working on these issues now. I have no idea when they will be issuing an update. I can try my CD Contacts, but they are notorious for not answering e-mail...
Hi Chris thanks for the response.
So no real difference between IIs and IIi in reliability terms?
I don't suppose you know if the dock and USB cables are interchangeable between the IIs and IIi?
Robin
This might sound stupid but I have a question. I am trying to connect my xda2i to the internet trough a Motorola v3. The reason I’m doing this is that I don’t need the xda2i as a mobile. I have a Motorola v3 I bought trough the office with an unlimited GPRS access. O2 did a couple of terrible mistakes with my business account and probably being afraid that we are going to sue them, they tried to befriend me by sending me this xda2i. I don’t want to use a new number so all I want to do is connect my V3 with this xda2i. It seems that it won’t work for some reason that eludes me. Is there anyone here able to help me with few ideas?

Ovidiu
I have tried this a few times and it appears that the required software is not installed on the XDA IIi.
Why not unlock the XDA IIi and use yout Voda SIM in it?
Xda2i and Bluetooth
Hi guys
Like you I have tried over and over to get my 2i to talk to a bluetooth device and connect to the net ( I brought a small blue tooth modem that I can plug into a Wall phone socket ) , But no Joy .
Ive searced lots of forums and as you have , have been told that some of the software is missing from the blue tooth section . Its a real bummer cos it means we are trapped to wifi or GPRS the latter being very expensive .
Would really appreciate a patch to make this work if any clever people are reading .

Howdy all!
Just found the forum via a Google search and was wondering if anyone can help - MANY apologies if this problem has been posted elsewhere (im a newbie here so please be gentle!), but ive just had a look but couldnt find anything......so here goes...
I've just got myself a XDA 2i today and having active sync'ed Tom Tom 5.1 to it i've come across a "program may not run correctly as its set up for older software" message. After running TT anyway it does indeed start, but cant seem to connect my wireless GPS receiver to it, and im just worried (having read elsewhere here) it could well freeze up in use if i perserve with it. Anyone have any advice?? Please??
I have a XDA 2 and my Tom Tom 5 runs perfect on it.........but am now left considering selling this new 2i on eBay (instead of the other one i'd intended) as i just want something that works. Can anyone help? Im just looking for some simple advice..........id REALLY appreciate it
Thanks in anticipation ............
Ant
Ps, I guess my main issue is just advice whether i should perservere with the XDA 2i (i just want Tom Tom to work!) - or sell and just stick with the XDA 2 that 'seems' to be less problematic. Im soooo desperate.........help!
Upgrade to 5.21
I'm not familiar with the Alpine but one thing that you should be doing for sure is to install the upgrade to 5.21.
Hope this helps!
Connect Tom tom Wireless Bluetooth GPS
Hello
I had TomTom installed in my Qtek 2020, and it worked.
I had a problem at first. I wasn´t able to connect with my wireless Bluetooth Gps, but then i set up the connection by setting it as "other NMEA cable GPS", strange, but it worked. I never could connect it as a "Generic Bluetooth Gps". I have a Pretec Gps Mini
I hope it works
Have you made sure "Receive all incoming beams" is NOT ticked in the settings - connections - Beam - menu? that is the normal culprit that we all forget!!!
Thanks SO much for the help guys....the 'incoming beams' thing did the trick......and it now recognizes TT5. THANKYOU!! Here's hoping it doesnt freeze up on me....! :?
With regards to the updated XDA2i not being compatiable with 'the older software im trying to run' would anyone recommend getting rid of it and sticking with the XDA2? The 2i is certainly the business with wi-fi, etc....but having uploaded a Commodore 64 emulator from Clickgamer (and having the same message pop up) i just dont know if im going to run into any other issues with this newer version of Windows its running. Any help would be really appreciated....thanks again
I would not worry about that pop up, it does it with loads of programmes, my 2i is very stable with tt5.2, even when using the phone via a BT headset and I have other programmes running in the background - the choice is SD card is more critical - Transcend 80x's seem to be the most stable.
Excellent...thanks for the advice!
Btw, just noticed the 'radio' thing in your signature......is it part of a download for the xda? Any other websites you'd recommend? My 2i is brand new out of the box and needing some cool gadgets put onto it! 8)
Thanks (again!) for all the help
Theres some good stuff on this site pdagold
It is freeware as well.
As for the Radio, I, along with many others have upgraded to Pugs rom, this seems to be the most stable one around, you can get it from the FTP part of this site, then just follow the instructions to reflash your rom.
a MASSIVE thanks for this.........sorry to be such a newbie, the advice here has been fantastic. Thanks alot!! :!:
i recommend pugz rom
i was using the o2 rom with tomtom 5.1 and and i kept loosing connection also had bluetooth issues, once installing the cooked rom, i've not experienced any problems
damned tt5.21
the problem is that I'm trying, at least, to let the O2 2i working with tomtom5.21 and fortuna clip-on gps receiver...
I read a lot of posts, so my beam settings are ok...
seems that tt5.21 don't want to communicate with the gps.
In fact the gps fixes (red light), but tt5.21 don't want to see it. It continue to say "no gps receiver", "signal lost from..." or, in the configuration, "Gps signal not good (or something else, I'm translating from italian)", and the small circle on the left up corner rolls, rolls, rolls...
so has any ideas? I'm not sleeping since 4 dayz....
tnx for all
pugz rom?
and where can I dl it? can so plz post me a link? tnx
*ant if you have problems with tomtom locking up swap sd card for a mmc card I was having problems with mine have had no lock ups since I changed to mmc

Hi *Ant
I have used tt 5.1 5.2 and now 6.01
With both tt 5s on SD card I had frequent freezing, but since changing to an MMC card it has worked with ought a single glitch.
I LOVE my XDA 2i

My O2 XDA IIs is second-hand, un-locked and partially/occassionally/not working with my Orange PAYG sim.
Tech stuff:
Rom 1.40.00 WWE
Radio 1.12.00
Protocol 1337.42
Ext Rom 1.40.242
What does work or doesn't work...
Well, I can occasionally make a call, but I am just as likely to get three tones in my ear (Ping ping ping) and the call ends before even getting to the dialling code. No idea what the three pings are meant to mean apart from'You are not going to be connected mate!'.
I can use internet explorer when I have the XDA in the cradle, but it just says 'connecting' permanently when I am out and about, but gives me no reason why it won't connect.
I can't send or receive texts, just get a 'failed' message.
When I go from a no-signal to a strong signal area it is purely random whether the XDA tries to find a signal or not. It will quite happily just sit there swearing blind that there is no signal.
Would putting in an O2 sim solve all these problems?
Is there anyone out there happy with the XDA IIs?[/quote]
IMHO your Blueangel is locked to O2 search the forums and you will find ways to unlock it
I ran an unlocker and the XDA has stopped complaining about the sim. Do you mean there is a further lock of some sort?
M8...if you came here just to rant about it just forget it!..... it just might be that these more advanced machines are not for you!
Its obvious your xda is not setup properly for what you want!
Now... if you have a problem just post it and preople will try to help....
No need to ask people if thewre is one that actually works...this forum if full of threads about it....do some research...and you never know ...you might come across some usefull information about the problems you are having
further to this I currently have two of these on the latest o2 rom and both work like a charm.

Finally working
Thankfully I found someone with experience in these units today and having replaced a faulty battery pack it is finally working correctly.
But thanks agent003 for showing once again that the world is full of guys able to sum up a total situation based on zero information and prove what complete and utter A-holes they are. Thanks M8
No Sweat m8.... Just like you I have also had times like this that you just feel like busrsting the bubble
Its just so easy to loose your rag over it m8!
Im happy the machine is now working for you as it should (thats an understatement  ).

Hi
I havent performed any upgrades to my XDA2i (official or otherwise) for at least 3 years - are there any upgrades I should consider?
Here is my Device Info
ROM Version : 1.11.00 WWE
ROM Date : 01/27/05
Radio Version : 1.00.00
Protocol Version : 1337.39
ExtROM Version : [THIS IS BLANK]
Model Number : PH10C
Also, I am unable to connect to WiFi with my XDAIIi
The device finds wifi signals and sometimes will make a connection - but when I try and open a webpage I get a screen showing "IIS7" and nothing else.
Here are my settings for WiFi :
Network Card Connects to tiacxwin Campatible Wireless Ethernet (for both The Internet and Work).
Power Save slider is set for Best Performance.
Thanks for any help and advice !!!
Paul
I am in a similar position Paul.
I have been given a 02 XDAll by my company to use for recording surveys.
Its bog standard like yours.
I'd really like to upgrade it but the problem is there is almost too much written about it on these forums .Most of it is so old and out of date that all the links are broken. Its hard work trawling through it.
What is needed is a simple basic upgrading overview listing all the options but I suppose everyone has moved on to more recent PDA's and are no longer interested in these
I've posted a similar request in the Himilayer section .Maybe we can share what we find
Nick
Nick, do you have a Himalaya or an Alpine? PH10B or PH10C?
The Alpine is stuck on WM2003, perfectly good for its task just not upgradeable to WM5 or WM6.
As for customising it realy depends what you are looking for.
Hi DeeDee thank you for responding. I feel guilty hyjacking Paul's thread.
Mine is a Himalaya 10B
with following spec
02 XDAll
2Gb SD card
Rom 1.72.00WWE
Date03/15/04
Radio 1.17.04
ext Rom 1.72.18.1
Ram 128Mb
Model PH10B
I just wanted to improve the Active page if its possible .I cannot read the tiny text so large button icons like the Diamond would be useful
I cannot set the Internet access up either ? have tried for hours.
I have a Netgear Wireless Modem router DG834G but neither the manual or quick guide explain how to set up the XDA .
I have spent several days trawling this site and the net.
Any help appreciated thank you
Nick,
No problem joining in - if we can get the WiFi problem sorted I would be more than happy.
DeeDee,
Should my ExtROM Version be completely blank?
Thanks
Paul
Hi Paul
you're up early !
I have used WM5 on an XDA Mini S (Wizard) a couple of years ago. I imagine that most of the current software and apps are written for WM5 orWM6 so it will mean I'll need to upgrade to WM6. Presume that means flashing the Rom which judging by the number of disasters on this forum is not something I'd do lightly.
Particularly as there are virtually no answers to requests for help.
I found a statement last night that basically says unless you are a software developer you arn't welcome on this forum which probably explains the lack of help.
Yours has the 128 Rom as apposed to my 64Mb which is a big advantage. I have gone off the idea of buying a Himalaya or an Alpine as they are too antiquated really which is a shame as I love the build quality and screen size.
I'm going to look for something a bit more contemporary I think . In the mean time I'll enjoy using the works XDA ll
Hi
Flashing the Himalaya to WM5 or WM6 is painless and it has to be said slightly addictive, you will try many ROMs until you find one you like. Think I have tried most of the ROMs for the Himalaya.
The lack of help has NOTHING to do with not being a developer, i'm not one and have had lots of help. The problem is probably due to the lack of people using these PPCs. i have to confess my Himalaya is purely there as something to muck about with, work didn't want it any more. i have a Trinity as primary PPC phone and an Alpine with an application that doesn't work on WM5.
You won't get your Himalaya to connect to your WiFi as it doesn't do WiFi without an add on card.
DeeDee,
Should my (Alpine) ExtROM Version be completely blank?
Thanks
Paul
Hi Paul
Can't remember and my Alpine is at home, but i don't think so.

Thankyou DeeDee I appreciate you taking the trouble to answer silly questions by a noob.
I have downloaded and printed out a 140 page manual and there was nothing clear about connecting to wi-fi
If I have to carry this Hima around with me all day I might as well have it working as well as it can.I had intended to purchase a 3g Iphone for myself but now I'm not so sure I might buy a HTC instead if I can find one with 3.5" screen and wi-fi and a reasonable interface like touchflo
Nick
i have to say the smaller screen on my Trinity is perfectly adequate and that the larger form factor of the Alpine/Himalaya means you need a headset/handsfree kit to really use it as a phone.
It's also not pocketable, which my Trinity is, just.
If you can find a decent mobile shop and have a touchy feely sesion with as many as you can.
thanks DeeDee thats excellent advice. Photos never give a good indication of size and ease of use . The size is a bind like you say its heavy and too big for a shirt pocket but it is easier for me to work with using reading glasses.
I got an 02 XDA mini S when they first came out. I found the screen too small and fiddly and it stayed in the box unused for 18 months when I sold it on ebay for nothing so I have learnt my lesson.
DeeDee may I just ask one other question please. I have trawled through the wiki and various other sources but I still haven'y founf an answer to my initial question on the Himalaya board.
Q1 How do you install a new app on the Hima or Alpine ?
Q2. where does it get installed to ?
Today we lost the special survey App again Grrrrrrrrrrrv because the flippin battery went flat.
My boss is hopping mad and blames me !....I blame IT cos they installed it.
There must be somewhere we can install an App to that is non volatile and is not lost every time the battery goes flat.
Presumably the same place that WM2003 is installed ? How is it done ?
To install an app either:
1 - use Active Sync to install it if necessary
2 - if the install is a CAB file copy it to a memory card and then click it on the PPC to run the install.
As for the where it installs, when you run the installer it may ask where you wish to install, either Device/Storage Card. Make sure both batteries are charging. In all honesty it's not your fault that the end users aren't charging their Alpine on a regular basis.
