Do I keep the G3 or the G4?? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I ordered a wizard from customer service (to replace my broken one) and it never came. After talking with customer service, I went into a local store and purchased my new wizard (G4). I can't update the rom on it and just today my "lost" phone turned up (G3).
A friend stopped by my old apartment and picked up a package he saw was addressed to me (my phone, ordered ~two weeks ago)
Here is my problem: which phone should I keep--the G3 or the G4? Is there any advantage to keeping the G4?--Has there been any progress in upgrading them or should I stick with the G3?
THANKS for the help!

from what i have heared they say its easy to upgrade and downgrade the g3 unlike the g4. im new here so i believe someone will give you a better answer to your question.

I hope so. Maybe someone who is working on roms can answer my question if they have time*** :!:

Personally, I would keep the G3 but then I like using the custom Roms!

Uhh...G3 dude. G3 can do everything G4 can plus some. As of now anyways

Currently the general recommendation would probably say the G3 handset. There are no obvious reasons to keeping the G4 at this moment. All we know for sure is that HTC decided to go with a new flash chip due to availability/cost reasons. This caused a hiccup here so from the standpoint of the ROMs here at this site - at this moment - keep the G3 handset, and return the G4 handset.
BTW - A2DP wasn't meant by having two 8125's; one for each ear

Keep the G3.

Keep the g3 will give you less trouble if u need to downgrade/upgrade. Plus with the new htc devices coming out, I doubt if any one is going to try to work in the g4 devices, like unlocking etc .now the g3 pretty much everything has been covered/hacked.

So how do I ask this without revealing what a newbie I am...
Heck with it. How does one determine if one has a G3 or a G4?
Thanks!

When your IPL/SPL ends with .001 you have a G4 chip.

Thanks for your reply! My IPL/SPL both say 2.24, but this is after I flashed the 2.24 T-Mobile ROM posted on this site...so I was under the impression this was ROM related, not device related...?
Manzil

If you have a G3 chip your IPL/SPL is for example: 2.24
If you have a G4 chip your IPL/SPL is for example: 2.24.001
If you flash a G3 Rom onto a G4 device (with the x.xx.001 IPL/SPL) your Wizard will be bricked for sure! There are already a few threads about this issue.
I hope that this clears things up.

Freezing Phone

Good afternoon gentlemen, I just bought an 8125 that's supposedly new off ebay. It's been freezing a couple times a day it seems, the trend seems to be it freezes when she hangs up from a phone call. The phone is "unlocked" but I'm not sure if it's CID unlocked or otherwise.
From the reading I've done on the forum the last couple days, it looks like a ROM update may help, and also add alot of functionality to the phone. My question is, and I haven't seen this addressed in my reading, is there I way to tell how the phone was "unlocked" by the ebay seller? Do i need to be concerned about this? I really don't want to brick my wife's new toy!
Tonight I'll reset it and get the numbers to determine if it's a G3 or G4 and go from there.

IPL and SPL are 2.25.0001

Ones that specifically say they are G4, or ones that you go through the process of using Shell Tool on. But with a G4, be careful and fully understand what you are doing (I don't have one, so I'm not going to pretend I fully understand the process), because if you put a G3 rom on a G4, its a true brick / paperweight (as I understand it).
There is a Wizard G4 forum here. Read and head what you find over there before you even attempt to do an upgrade on a G4.

Thats probably the better place to ask too...

What use is a wizard....

hi.
I have recently bought a kaiser (tmobile vario III). I have the original vario, fully working, but the screen is cracked in many places. i have used it like that for months without problems.
Should I throw it away, or do people buy such models for spare parts?

Well,if still under warranty, get replaced or repaired by the Manufacturer or vendor from whom you bought this phone.
Otherwise you can get a new screen from ebay, buy it,lol
If you read the sticky, folks do still want damaged ones...they can always Frankenstein a new one. For instance (too late now, as a new one is arriving)...last week, I would have killed for a spare, so I could fix my damaged usb port.
There is a sticky about saving our dying phones, you may want to check it out.
donate to one of the developers.. er.. I think vijay555 is looking for one.
I am always looking for broken PDA phones too. It's fun to fix them (yes, I am a nerd).

How nasty are HTC? (with ROM flashing invalidating the warranty)

Hi Guys,
Was just hoping for some feedback - has anyone tried getting HTC to warranty repair a phone that does not have all the original roms on it?
I need to send mine back for what is clearly a damaged / faulty mini USB port and have managed to restore the original Radio / OS and splash (by using microSD card) but am unable to downgrade the H-SPL 3.56 to the original because the process requires the USB connection.
Any experiences that you have with this kind of thing may be a good indication to the response I and many others may get...
Thank you in advance

Here you go. I would never return a device without stock software on it.

The problem with the steps above are that you cannot flash an SPL using anything other than USB.

The problem is: he has Hard SPL on not the OEM SPL and without USB you cannot flash a new SPL.
The question still stands.
I have read threads before of people returning phones with new SPL's and getting away with it, but I think thats ATT.
Also, I think this would be better in the Kaiser General Forum in future (or if any mods want to move it).
Thanks
Dave
My bad, thanks for correction. News to me! I'd like to see how this plays out, too.
I always sent my device with modded spl, no problems yet (germany)
Had the same problem (faulty usb-connector). Sent my device for repair, with custom rom and hardspl on it. 3 Days later it came back repaired. No fuss about the rom or anything.
a friend sent his touch to htc for repair with non-stock spl. came back 3 weeks later and was repaired (germany)
IMHO, if still using custom ROM, it's very noticeable to the service guy, different layouts, apps, settings. But if you've revert to stock ROM, the hardspl would be barely noticed.
I sent my JasJam (Hermes) with original ROM but HardSPL'd, and they didn't noticed. At least, they didnt ask. =)
It's my understanding from the ATT rep that services our corporate account that the chances are pretty slim that they'd notice or give you any grief over a boot loader. It's just not something that's checked. In fact, chances are pretty slim they'll even notice a different rom either in most cases as they just don't troubleshoot at that level often, but I wouldn't take that chance.
According to our rep, for the most part they just replace the phone, rather than repair it, and then fix/reflash the phone you turn in and sell it as a refurb.
YMMV depending on your carrier, of course, but that's what our ATT guy told me when I expressed concern about my own phone.
peace,
Aielman
Just wondering how much people paid to have their usb ports fixed from HTC? Got a refurb from AT&T and my port broke right after the 30 warranty expired...
returning a tilt with broken USB in NYC
hey all,
i returned my tilt at the ATT warranty center in NYC three weeks ago.
they tried plugging in the USB, saw it didn't work, brought out a refurb (which was in very good condition, although you keep your battery and stylus) and that was that. as USB was broken i could not flash back to stock and had to take my chances. as of now, no issues with new phone or charge on my att or cc bill for new phone (b/c of a warranty breach).
so in my case, all good. always be polite and patient with the service folk.
they are there to help but not to be messed with.
as of now, i am not reflashing my tilt until after the official ROM is released.
once thats released for TILTs and new ROMs for TILTs have been cooked I'll think about it again. i had been using Dutty 4/29 and L26v9.
and in general it was fine. other ROMs always left me with unacceptable freeze issues. i have installed almost all of what I want with CABs and since I have done that my phone is faster and more stable than it was with cooked ROMs.
hope that helps.
michael
Thank you all for your replies... I am dealing with HTC directly in UK. I will let you know how I get on with my non-original SPL.
(If I remember and am not overly distracted with belated joy or depression).
Just to let you folks know, HTC fixed it (replaced main board).
Obviously now on stock rom (need to unlock again bah!).
Was hoping for updated ROM, but didn't get it DOUBLE BAH!

Brand new G4 today. Is this phone unsupported by community?

My G3 died and Sprint gave me a NIB G4
G3 LS990 has lots of custom roms and support, and this whole forum section looks dead
Am I on a dead-end phone with this new G4 LS991?
Am I doomed to use OTA forever?
How can I get the bootloader unlocked for TWRP?
I was running Android 7.1.1 on my G3. I don't even see anything like that for G4?
Did I just get completely and utterly screwed over by getting this phone? Aka, is it time for me to ebay the phone I have had less than an hour and switch off Sprint?
Let me know what you can, thanks guys!

1) Yes development is pretty much dead for the Sprint G4, for at least a year maybe and no telling how long more, probably ever.
2) Secondly, you should be aware that the LG G4's high rate of hardware problems (LG and all the carriers are aware of this too.). Called bootloop. Try temporarily reactivating with sprint and tell them you want another handset you would be happy with.
