Original ROM AKU2.0 Problems - Which other rom is better? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Hi!
Just a noob question - i am sure you can help me guys:
I am using a Wizard with the original (german) T-Mobile ROM on it (this one: http://www.t-mobile.de/downloads/t-mobile/vario_aku2.0_05-2006.zip).
Unfortunately i didnt note which ROM was on that device before i upgraded.
Nevertheless, the ROM is good (makes the device much faster, batteries lifetime improved) and so on... BUT:
o Camera is worse
o the quality of the built-in "speak free" functionality is worse too (unuseable)
So I wonder if it is recommendable to upgrade to one of the circulating ROMs of your board here (Mr. Cleans or whatever)?
Like many of you i just want that device fast, stable and with economic comsuming of batteries
If positive, which ROM would you recommend for me? Is there a comparing matrix with pros/cons anywhere?

hmm.... c'mon guys - that question isnt that complicated
Noone out there with experience with all those different ROMs?

I've just gotten an O2 Wizard and am in the same position - new to this and would like to know which ROM(s) people rate the most.
Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated...

Honestly you're just going to have to try a few until you find the one that works best for you.
Personally, I go for stability and speed so I'm running a clean version of the AKU 2.3 Rom with the Cingular 2.25 Bootloader & Radio Rom.
I don't use the camera so I can't tell you how it compares to the Stock Cingular Rom.

I'm getting my MDA Compact IV tomorrow...what to do?

Hi all,
Well after much deliberation and hard choices I decided to go for the T-Mobile Compact IV due to being the best deal. I am returning to WM after 18 months ditching my 02 XDA mini s
I have been scouring these forums for weeks now to see what I can do right away to my new phone...
I want to obviously get rid of the Tmobile branded touch flo 3d..
Can you please report what best SPL's, Radios and ROM's are best for this particular device (i understand some radios work better for different carries, so obviously would like to know from experience who has best performance for tmobile).
I have searched and searched the forums, and with it being a MDA compact the answers are less definative for whats best and I just want to make sure.
I am aware of mikes thread with the compact he got for his gf but would like info in addition to this.
Would you reccomend me opening up the box and then just wiping the phone right away without using the tmobile version
Thanks for your help
Granty
I have had a UK T-Mobile MDA IV for about a week now.
I used the SwiftBL 7.5 ROM with no difficulties. Upgraded the same day as I got the phone after it had charged a bit - the T-Mobile ROM really didn't have much going for it. Didn't try the other ROMs though. No problems installing the hard SPL (jockyw2001's HardSPL 1.24), it just worked. I did briefly consider sticking with the T-Mobile ROM with a bit of debranding, but it really is awful and I don't regret upgrading now!
Upgraded the radio to v1.00.25.05 as recommended in the SwiftBL thread and it worked well. Later upgraded radio to v1.00.25.BS14 and I think it works better, but that's a bit subjective - I haven't been running benchmarks and formal tests! Pretty easy to downgrade if you have to though.
I think "what's best" is pretty subjective. From the few days I've been in this forum it seems SwiftBL is like a slightly tweaked HTC ROM with some useful tools on it, and Dutty's is more of a hardcore tweaked ROM built for speed, but I might be wrong on that
all i can reccomend is Dutty's lite (+, of course, all what you prefer, all tweaks and other "must have")
radio? .05, .07, .08, .14 - it depends on many factors (country, city, operator etc) so we cannot surely say "this radio is THE BEST!
one is as sure as ****: debranding is necessity, radio rom .03 is the worst, T-Mobile ROM is also one piece of ****
Thanks for both of your replies. I have downloaded SwiftBL 7.5 while I was waiting for response, seemed one to go for. Download HardSPL - Diamond - Olinex- Hope thats the one to go for and also downloaded the radio .08 and BS14, will probs bang BS14 on and give that a go. Will let ya know my experiences tomorrow!

I too have had my mdac4 for a week or so. I tried the Swift rom and it was great to start with but then I lost all sound, although I did install other stuff afterwards which may have been to blame too. I ended up installing the paonosha rom and it has been very good so far, very quick and no gps lag
I'm using 08 radio
Well its here, TMobiles ROM is awful. If i didnt know about this site i'd have sent it back right away, so slow and unresponsive.
Gutted mobile.co.uk announced xperia today but oh well what can you do?
At least I got a decent deal on mine on a 12 month contract I suppose as opposed to an 18 month
I wouldn't go with the xperia even if the price is the same as diamond, touch pro would be the more reasonable choice to go.
had my MDA C4 for just over a month now and i can say a few things:
* I'm using Dutty's rom which is nice and stable and has all the default apps i need. Do not stay on the stock rom unless you have a death wish
* In terms of radio's, i'm on .08 at the moment but i'm just about to switch back as i can't seem to get a GPS lock on and i need it for TomTom. I was on .05 radio before and this was working perfect, and the battery life was also around the same as this .08
* If you have a later ROM version than 1.37 then please try and make a backup, i haven't come across any so far and it would be nice to have one if i have to revert back at some point!
* Play around. There is most likely going to be more than one ROM that will suit your needs, so it's all about what you really want from it down to the skins they have tbh. Most of the ROM's at the moment seem to have pretty much the same speeds and tweaks, and the only difference being that they customize it (whether it be custom manilla icons, start menu, etc).
That's my two cents

As someone who is in a very similar position to Addictedddd, I echo his words of playing around.
I agree that most ROMs are similar with respect to tweaks, etc. Personally, I'm using Version 7.0 of SwiftBLs ROM. I know that this is not the latest (I think I posted somewhere recently that "newest is not necessarily the best") but it's the one that I most prefer - The one that feels right, if you like..
I've tried countless others but I always keep coming back to version 7.0..
I'm also running the 1.00.25.BS14 Radio on mine. Again, the 05 seemed OK, the 08 didn't change much but I pesonally noted a slight increase in signal with the BS14 so I stuck with it.
You need to play around with the Diamond and experiment with different programs and ROMs. Only this way will you find out what is best for you.
Finally, Don't forget to read. The Wiki has a great introduction for flashing. I've added a link below:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Diamond
Read it - I'd hate to see a post from you tomorrow saying "Help - I've Bricked it!!"
Take care and happy experimenting..
Right oh my findings..
Tmobile ROM...super slow, would have gone back if I didnt know how to change.
After much confusion of the guide saying there was a 1.40 SPL that wasnt developers I found out it was actually 1.30....
I tried installing BS14 radio with 1.30 but kept erroring at 0% (i wasnt even sure the SPL was installed right as it only took literally a second to update, even though bootloader confirmed it)
So after reading a few more peoples reports I went to HardSPL 1.40 developers (just make sure I don't do any dodgey roms) and installed the BS14 radio no problem, again the SPL updated quick taking only a second, then about a minute for the radio.
Installed swiftblade 7.5 which installed very quickly too, about 2 or 3 minutes, so much quicker than the Tmobile ROM.
Not sure how GPS lock is, havent got any sat nav software on, tried google maps which was instant but I take it that is using A-GPS.
Signal strength is not very good, 1 bar, might be my area, all other phones around here have full signal though so may just be tmobile. Will trial it for a bit but if it causes problems try 08 or 05.
I too have had my Compact IV for about a month now, also returning to WM after a stint with a Nokia N95 8Gb (Glad to be back!!). I did manage to refrain from flashing the ROM until today. I didn't have any problems with the T-Mobile ROM but have been reading the forums here and at Modaco and was interested to see if there really was that much of an improvement to be had. I have gone with TLR's Diamond ROM 3 and all i can say is wow!!, its only been a few hours so far but the entire phone is much slicker and quicker, there really is a big difference. I really must say thanks to Jockyw2001 and TheLoanRanger for their excellent work, and to everyone at XDA Developers and Modaco for sharing their experiences. I may well go on to try a few other ROM's but for now im glad to have taken the first step.

Would a change of rom extend battery

Hi guys.
Have read many mixed reviews about this but was hoping a couple of you here would be able to confrm it.
As we know the battery life on the diamond aint that great, but I have read many mixed thoughts that a rom upgrade would improve the battery life. Is this true?
If so any recommendations on nice rom from the rom section we have on here?
I am currently running the original orange uk rom.
Many thanks, look forward to you replies.
My guess is that the changes are marginal at best, so save yourself from the trouble and order this, http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=166204
Its not marginal. It got me about 1 extra day of usage before i'd have to charge. I changed from original rom to Dutty's cooked rom.
There is also other benefits to changing roms, most important benefit would be speed. The cooked roms usually run faster and more smoother than the original roms.
Thanx guys, I will take a look at duttys.
Will the official upgrade from the htc site be any good?

Nope. Hmmm cooked firmwares generally remove some things which are not used EVER. Also it will clean up the software being ran on the background. And a few tweeks will be made to WM to make it run faster. ie. page memory, etc.
I think its the radio update that makes the most difference. I seem to get better battery life since 'upgrading' to 1.00.25.05 (upgrading is in quotes since my original version was actually higher than that). But then again i also upgraded to a cooked rom (AZTOR X2) so i got a double hit... Certainly very pleased with the extra speed and battery life!
the radio update is totally true. Ive read certain posts where people are getting atleast 3x longer battery using a different Radio.
Such as on one radio it will use about 8% overnight, where as on another radio within about the same duration overnight it will only use 2-3%.
would anyone be able to give me links to these roms and radio's. also a guide would be really handy
thanks
Jon
I'm interested of the rom that make battery life 3x longer...i'm actually using .16(BS), but i don't know if this one is the best.

WM 6.5 Official Uncooked Upgrade, should I go branded(t-mobile) or unbranded(htc)?

Hi everyone,
I have a T-Mobile TP2 and have been torn on whether or not to upgrade to 6.5 for some time now. Well I finally decided to go for it, but then came across the official unbranded HTC rom.
My question is (dealing only with official release updates from tmobile and htc):
Who has upgraded to both branded and unbranded and can relay pros and cons of both compared to 6.1 and each other? Or has anyone heard enough about both, or can give me any relevant information?
Also, do I need to HardSPL in order to flash the HTC rom?
I'd really like to lose all the bloatware and sh!tty splash screen and everything else t-mo, but I don't know if there is any clear-cut advantage to doing so.
Also, if I am completely daft and missed a similar pre-existing thread, please inform me of my mistake. Same goes if I posted in the wrong section, this is my first post in evar.
THANKS!!!
Put Hardspl on your phone and you can test yourself You can always go back to the 6.1 rom.
is there a stock manila 2.5 ROM offered by t-mo?
if not, 2.5 + CHT is definately worth using the HTC ROM.
I would not mess with Sense 2.5 unless it is cooked. You need a lot of tweaks to make it run smoothly on the TP2, especially in HTC messaging. I am using a cooked version of the T-Mobile stock rom with Sense 2.1, has been the best and most stable rom for me yet. Sense 2.5 is good if you don't mind giving up some performance for new features. Sense 2.1 is what our devices run best with. Hope this helps you decide.
EDIT: In comparison to WinMo 6.1 with TF3D, upgrading to 6.5 with Sense2.1 will in my opinion make the device run smoother. 6.1 is a very solid OS and works well with TouchFlo to make scrolling much easier. However, I say if you can upgrade the device to 6.5 without losing performance go for it because it is much better integrated than TouchFlo, making the touch experience much better. Through my testing, the TP2 functions best with WinMo 6.5 with Sense2.1. The newer WinMo builds are probably better off using on the HD2 and other high performance devices. Same thing with Sense2.5, it can run smoothly but you will be giving up some speed as well as memory and battery life. I have come to terms with my phone, lol... Nothing beyond Sense2.1 and WM6.5 from now on. But you have to test on your own to see which you like better. Good luck!
I've been cooking own ROM for a few weeks now, and it's a T-Mobile no frills ROM.
It's not quite finished, but it's very stable and the battery life is excellent. I could always use another tester if you're interested.

You would have to hard SPL to use the HTC ROM.
The Official WM 6.5 is a sense 2.1 version, but you would not need to hard SPL.
Thanks for all of your help!
I'm still not sure what i'll do for now, but i'll probably end up just biting the bullet and becoming an addict. I'll start with the official sh!t and gateway into flashing every stable rom that exists lol.

What would you say is the best rom?

Looking for a good reliable rom, just wondering what would you say is the best rom to have on my blackstone?
the clean rom ist the best and the fastest rom on xda.
the top version is better than the bottom version.
==> try clean rom top version 1
http://www.multiupload.com/IK64V7SC7D
BlackNew V
I really like BlackNew ROMs. I tried Energy ROMs, both on my Diamond and current Blackstone. They are pretty and full of apps, but slows down the machine a lot. And for speed and functionality is top priority
With BlackNew ROMs you get speed and some usefull apps
are the mods on holiday? they normally close these threads because they can be so contentious
Yep cant be long before the padlock cometh...We're not allowed to have a discussion about who likes which rom & why on here You've got to spend hours and hours, days and days trying them all yourself and going with the one you like, but remember not to post to tell anyone..

The mods will soon type something into this thread along with this line: "thread closed"
Maybe the Mods have realized that you can't close down these types of questions, hence another one will always pop up! These forums by nature produce these comparisons, so in effect they are the root cause. Can you condemn something that you are responsible for?
I love Energy Roms...I always come back to these. They just are "eye candy", and have all the features and personalization ideas that I love...but they are really designed for the HD2 which makes them "fat" on our HD units...Eg... they are 220+ MB for a ROM footprint compared to 168MB for a KWBR rom footprint. Hence the downside to me is they are generally more sluggish COMPARED to others...but they get faster as NRG keeps cooking.
KWBR's rom is quicker, but would love to see some eye candy enhancements.
Miniterror's roms are awesome...but would love to see CHT back in.
Have not tried many of the others as these guys keep producing too much quality to send me elsewhere..
I tried Kenia's BLack V, and that was awesome!! But just could not got back to the 6.1 OS...but he did a super job blending new age enhancements with the stability and speed of the older systems.
Thanks cooks
Regards
J
I don't see the problem with other people's opinion it's like feed back in one place instead of going through each thread on the ROM have one thread with feed back for all the ROM's in one place. Just an idea..
the reason why they get closed is that everybody has a different look of how a rom should lok like and what should be included in the rom
as it are opinions there cant be decided whats the best rom
also benchmarking wont be the answer as i have read that you can set some thing that the rom becomes verry slow but benchmark scores mega high that it should be the best rom
so for me the best rom is my own
i like the colors that are in and the programs and the fact its dutch
some others could like nrg rom more as they like those colors or the startmenu at the bottom builds
it all comes down to you what you want
maybe on a side note somebody can make a spreadsheet off the roms out here with the functions the roms have like startmenu at the bottom or on top
colors or default look and stuff like that
best ..
.. is your own ROM ..
My best: Blackdragon 3 Final
I tried them all, but with a windows phone speed and stability should be top priority. You can always customise your phone to your requirements. So I vote for blackdragon by Andy, as my best rom; mainly becasue of its incredible speed and stability.
I've tried most ROMs and became a bit of an NRG fan but I think there are too many changes for me to keep up with these days. It's great to try many ROMs and see what nice toys there are and also which areas of stability you need.
Been using G10's Evo v6.00 (24001) 30.06.10 for a couple of weeks and have to say I love it. Battery and connection (UK) as well as GPS for TomTom is great so I'm sticking with this for a bit.
I'm sure some great new feature or app will tempt me to try something else in the future though.
Just flash a couple a week until you get bored (by then you'll know exactly what you want) would be my best advice
Hi there,
I my opinion these are the best 3 options:
1: [ROM][WWE][10-Jul-10] Cloudy 0.4 (WM6.1)
It's one of the fastest roms on this forum but has all the features you want. It's no "clean"rom or anything like that. I see this rom as one of the "jewels" around here. I did not detect 1 bug or glitch or anything like that while using this rom for a week now.
2: Try KWBR's rom. I am a big fan of his work and his roms are usually the most stable and also very fast.
3: Go with a wm6.5 titanium rom and if you like buy spb mobile shell and customize it the way you want. I belive ram usages will go up to around 50% while using spb so you are probably not as fast as option 1 or 2.
Good hunting!
i would say again there is no such thing best rom...
read the sticky dude...
every chef has different goal on their rom release
exp
- want clean roms for fast performance ( i prefer clean rom ... )
- want stable rom less bug ( for stable i prefer stock rom )
- want best look for lastest rom release ( WM 6.5 com 5 built )
I think jude1993 just wanted people's opinion to what they liked or disliked about the ROM's. I am intrested aswell. What is the best ROM is the wrong title for this thread though, Maybe it should say your opinion of the ROM's. Just an idea
I've tried loads of different roms too....Gets very tedious Loading all your programs n contacts n messages etc..
This weekend I've tried most of NRG's latest offerings, but dear god they are slow. For me anyway I use my phone for work, not to look trendy, but to run fast, stable & smooth.
I've come from Onkologs stable of roms, so its been tricky to find a modern comparison...And I much prefer 6.5 to 6.1, but not the latest bottom button builds.
For me the fastest most stable clean rom I have come across and go back to each and every time is....
Energy.BLACKSTONE.21895.Titanium.Mar.17
Needs a bit of tweaking here n there but have not found anything to touch it for speed/fluidity/stability.
Just my opinion
Mick
this is very interesting
as i've been trying out WWE 6.1, 6.5 and 6.5sth(at least 30+ times of flashing)...i'd say i eventually chose WWE 6.1 Lite Rom. The reason why to my choice is more speed, more rom capacity, and ram usage. Well, actually most cookers here did very good job as theirs roms are stable, compatiable and fast in general, appreciated! Without considering eye candy interface, WWE 6.1 is the most fastest rom compare to WWE 6.5 or up...
All in all, there's always sth i think which hardly get solved is language patch problem. Ok say like i am chinese, hk...my rom is WWE 6.1, i'd spent some certain time trying out chinese patch which i needed to read and write chinese...some cabs installed that could read and write in chinese but then while some app running that easy to get device "hang", some apps couldn't display chinese characters properly...this is i what found so far an unresolved issue...would you agree...?
thanks
cheerz
over the past 3 days i have flashed about 5 roms Im currently trying miniterror ,but i find my self wanting to go back to the energy roms more for the eye candy
before it used to be duttys roms but now im neither here or there.
But always gravitating towards Energy the Maryone roms I have tried so many times and they always feel too slow and sluggish ...

[Q] Best ROM for business use???

Hey Guys, sorry if I should not be posting a new post here. I am new to windows devices... I am trying to help my brother out. He has a Touch Pro2 and has convinced his boss to allow me to hack it for the sake of speed and stability. I am looking at the mirage of ROM's here... just as many here as there are in the Android Dev side of things!!!
So my question is, what is going to be the best rom to start with? I am not looking for fancy features... I AM looking to speed up the device!
So my question is... what is the best ROM for the sake of Speed and Stability???
I need this device to run as fast as it can... without overheating... I am not so worried about battery life as he, and the rest of his guys, have and use car chargers most of the day.
Thanks for your help!
I would recommend Wild Child's WCX here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750620
Thats the fastest, stock like Sense 2.5 ROM.
He is the chef that helps me with my ROMs so I know he does a good job.
You can also try LBFAR here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642956
It is super fast but uses old UI.
I wouldn't recommend mines as it is right now since I got 2 or 3 bugs on the Sense UI. Its super fast but I wouldn't recommend it for "business use" yet. Maybe next release.
Best ROM
I have not tried the ROMs listed above but I have had great success! (Borat voice) with the Energy series ROMs by NRGZ28. He seems to have cooked a ROM for everybody (sense 2.5, sense 2.1, max sense, cookie... etc.) If you are looking for speed and stability, I would suggest his sense 2.1 or titanium ROM. For a fast ROM that has the most functionality, I would suggest the sense 2.5 ROM with cookie. He also adds in a ton of customization and useful applications and every one of his ROMs uses XDA UC which allows you to flash a ROM and automatically restore almost all the settings, applications and customization you had prior to flashing a new ROM.
Check it all out here:

Jackos Oldschool ROM WM6.1 21048 + TF3D 2.1
The author claims it's built for free RAM, not speed, but it's damn fast. WM 6.1 and Manila 2.1 - nothing fancy indeed, but awesome in all respects. As for stability - that may very well be linked to the amount of free RAM
Oh btw. All the ROMs recommended this far are for GSM devices AFAIK. If you have a CDMA one, there's a different subforum for that.
Thanks for the input!!!
I am testing and compairing three of the roms listed... I'll tell you how it goes. I think I'll start with the Jackos Oldschool first, as it looks like it might hold the most promise having the most ram available.
Thanks again!
