Is there anyway at all to backup text message, upgrade your phone and then put them back onto the device when it's updated? I've had a look through a lot of the files but can't seem to find any text messages, just email messages
I have found Jeyo Mobile Extender for Outlook. However, when I start Outlook 2003 it comes up saying the Add-in has fired an error. I think this is because I run Win Vista though.
If Jeyo really is the only/best way to do it, I'll probably just bung in an old HDD, install XP FLP on it and do everything on there inc. the upgrade, unless there is another way?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=59169&highlight= have a look there. Sorry I can't help more.
i'd like to ask, is it safe to assume that these messages are all under windows>messaging, and that we can copy these files to our computer through activesync, and put them back after the upgrade?
will our BA be able to read them as text messages?
Thats the location of the email files yes. I'm not sure if just replacing them will work though, that why I'm probably going for the Jeyo software (and it also does SMS which I what I need).
For me, I use Jeyo Mobile Companion 1.1 for backup my call history & sms. (the stand alone version Not the outlook plug-in, cos in my device the plug-in version is not stable)
backup:
Export >> All (or selection)
restore:
Import >> All (or selection)

Hi !
what do i need to back up all my sms to pc?
Activesync doesn't syncronyse them into outlook... =(
full back up is not a way to save them too, as I need to save only them without other info.
and is there a way to read them on pc?
as I understand they are in windows\messaging folder on ppc, but I need some program to read them I believe..
check this one...Personal Mobile Vault http://www.1800message.com/
interesting for me....
thanks, I'll try it
actually i was mistaken when said that i can't read files from windows\messaging folder of ppc.
they are plain text - but there are a lot of empty files - much more than files with text - i think that are remainings from deleted sms.
i made full back up and then did hard reset.
I tried to restore back up - butsome fileswere not restored - as it said files werelocked by some application. but i had no progamms running...
most of that files were just some system files which i don't need. but what is bad - my contacts didn't syncronise =(((
anybody knows what can help?
and I even can't synchronyse by ActiveSync - when i connect my ppc - it shows "Syncranisation error" and all that I can do is exploring device..
If I lost my 500+ phone it's very terrible thing...
can anyone help?
all numbers are stored in outlook - but how can I copy them to ppc?
manully it'll take so long time!!!... =(
well...I found the solution - I hard reseted ppc, than syncronysed it with pc and only after that restored full back up - in that way all contacts are again on their place, and syncronization works now...
anyway I just flashed new rom with fixed cam and with my own ext_rom for russia...=)
thanks PUG
everything seems to work now...exept some *.dll's don't restore from backup, along with contacts...=|
and one more thing I want to know - is there any list what .CAB files in ext_rom are for? I found almost nothing using search - and it was about xdaII not IIi....
Jeyo Mobile Extender for Outlook is your answer
Hiya,
If you are using outlook than you'll want use Jeyo Mobile Extender for Outlook http://www.jeyo.com/extender.asp. It works via activesync. It creates a folder in your .pst and from there you can completely control your sms on your mobile. You can send and receive sms to your pc while the XDA is cradled (or wifi activesync), backup sms from the XDA to pc or vice versa... well worth it! I've been using it for months - since I had a problem like yours.

Before I last did a hard reset, I used smsBackup. It's freeware, it involves a little manual shuffling of files around, but it worked great for me in saving all of my SMSes (although for some reason I made a mistake and it saved everything twice, but hey no big deal).
Guys, guys, guys!!!
smsBackup is NOT freeware! I downloaded a lot of versions (with crack) and none of them worked after installation!
For me only 2.41 from the producer's website is working, but I can't find any crack...
Any help would be highly appreciated!
I am glad to read it here.
Hi every1,
Ive been reading around all the faqs and forum posts and have decided to flash my rom from my t-mobile uk one to one of the cooked roms.
Howevere before I do this I wanted to backing my sms/mms messages. After much research I decided to get Jeyo Mobile Extender which I will pay for if and when I get it fully functional.
The Jeyo system tray icon is present, and the phone is fully synced and connected. No problem so far. This verified by me sending an sms it working and recieving one a notification appears near the taskbar with the sms and its details (contents, date, sender...etc).
All good so far, however in the folders it doesnt actually download any messages. Automatically or on demand (by selecting download messages now). It does however when select "mange my sms on my device" bring all the sms up but again when clicking download sms fails. I checked the setting and it is set to sync messages in inbox.
Ive tried installing, reinstalling, ensuring SMSExpress.exe is on and says its connected (on my device), restarting, soft reset and disabling firewall. No joy whatsoever. The inbox in SMS folder (which i believe is a .pst in mydocuments/sms) is empty.
Id be grateful for any advice. I spoke to a friend who has the MDA Vario and said he didnt have a problem using Jeyo which means it is compatible. Ive studied there forum and its little or no help and couldnt find anything on thiis forum.
Running:
Outlook 2003
Standard T-Mobile rom on Mda Vario III (WM6)
Connected Via USB and Active Sync
Windows XP SP2
Kind Regards,
Anil

Glad to here you have it fixed.
I would like to ask, what version of Outlook are you using and do you get the notification on your laptop/PC when an SMS arrives on your phone or do you have to Send/Receive SMS to drag it in?
I lost auto notification when I moved from the Hermes to the TyTynII.
Cheers.

Hi thanutz,
I also back-up my TyTN II SMS using Jeyo Mobile Extender. Now that your Jeyo's working, and you are flashing with the new WM6.1 ROM with threaded messages, may I know whether the back-up still works? Because I'm not sure how the threaded messages will translate into single lines Outlook interface. That's my only concern about updating to WM6.1. If it backs-up alright, I will upgrade to WM6.1
Thank you
the rom i flashed was duttys sual touch v4. Im pretty sure thats wm6 not 6.1 but check the threads.
Multiple message messages, i.e. sms of more than 160 characters move over to outlook fine but dont move back, they get capped at 160 characters.
By Threaded i take it u mean wm6.1 has a feature where a converstaion between 2 ppl appears as one entry in the sms folder.
Try dotfreds pim back up possibly may work....
2007 now and yes i do get a notification, but i was getting that with 2003 also. maybe try what i did.
I also removed the sms****.exe that runs in the background of the pda when hayo is connected and recopied a new version. that may cure ure problem.
Hi,
I am using Jeyo Mobile Extender http://www.jeyo.com/extender.asp to write SMS with my Diamond if I am working with my PC.
The Diamond is connected with Activ Sync via Bluetooth. Everything works good, the only Problem is if I get a new SMS it is not automatically synchronized with Outlook. I have to press the "Sent/Recive" Button everytime. Than all new SMS are synchronized with outlook without any problem.
If I am writing a SMS with outlook there i no problem the sms is automatically sent to the pda.
Is there any possibility to acitivate the automaticall synchronization if I get a new SMS?
Thanks for your help guys...
If you go to the Options menu for Jeyo ME, there should be something called 'Send/Receive SMS messages on connecting'. That should do it.

'Send/Receive SMS messages on connecting'
it is not working.
thank you for someone help first!!!!
If that didn't work then some people have reported to edit the file JeyoSMSReceive.ini found in C:\Program Files\Jeyo\JME_WM. Sometimes the dates in this files can be wrong:
These are the contents of mine one:
Inbox=2009-02-12 20:40:40.000
"Sent Items"=2009-02-12 14:16:53.000
Drafts=2008-02-13 19:09:32.687
As my software is working 'correctly' the dates are all current. Check your file and see what the dates are. I believe changes the dates manually to a more recent date can resolve such issue. Sorry but I can't remember the exact procedure.
Failing this, you could just trying to uninstalling the program and in doing so also remove the C:\Program Files\Jeyo folder, restart the PC and then reinstall.
Had the same problem while running the trial... So I went to Jeyo Mobile Companion Instead, same features and tons more, but not integrated to outlook...
IMO, better than JME
Normally I use sprite backup to backup everything in one go from my Artemis, including SMS, and then restore the backup if I've done a hard reset. But since I will shortly be using the diamond instead of the artemis and cannot use sprite backups on the Diamond (as far as I've been told) is there a way to transfer my SMS from Artemis to Outlook, and then from Outlook to the Diamond?
I've got Outlook set up now and have saved contacts, calendar appointments, files, task and notes, but it doesn't appear to cater for SMS inbox, outbox, etc, only email. I read on this site about an app called Jeyo Mobile Extender, but apparently it can't transfer SMS back to the phone. So is there a way to do it or shall I just forget the old SMS's and start afresh with the Diamond? Mature responses if you please. Thanks.
Wait, I have a really old version, outlook 2003. I need 2007, right? I read that it caters for sms.
Try PPCPimBackup (freeware) or Jeyo Mobile Companion(shareware).

Thanks, I heard about Pim, will give it a try.
I charged the phone last night for the first time, then popped the T-Mobile CD in. I installed the newer version sprite backup software on the CD onto the phone, and then copied my latest sprite backup file created on my artemis with the older version sprite backup that came with the artemis, hoping it might recognise it and do the restore, yet it doesn't recognise it. Is this because my sprite backup file was created in WM5 and the diamond is WM6?
just sign up for microsoft my phone. sync the old phone then just choose to restore to phone when you sync the new phone. FREE

Thanks, looks like a great way to transfer texts, photos and video. But, this is on their site:
"Will Microsoft My Phone work on my mobile phone?
Currently, Microsoft My Phone works only on phones that run the Windows Mobile 6+ operating system."
My artemis is windows mobile 5. Only the diamond is WM6. So I guess it won't work.
I'm now trying Spb backup. Apparently it can transfer a full backup to a new phone even if the new phone has a different rom. I've just installed it on both phones and it's currently backing up my old stuff including what's on the storage card. I hope when I transfer the file to the diamond and try the restore it doesn't say incompatible or doesn't recognise. Fingers crossed. I looked at PIM backup but Spb seems to do more.
Well, it worked with Spb. I have all my text messages right back to 2007 on the new phone
Hello guys,
I've recently got a HTC Touch Pro, and i have my contacts from my previous phone (a SE W910i) saved in .vcf form, the problem is that when i send it to my HTC, either by BT or file transfer, when i try to install it i get an error saying that it's not complete, although it's complete, because i've always restored backups to my other phone from it.
Im running a Energy WM6.5 if that's relevant.
Thanks in advance.
You can try import .vcf file into Essential Pim and sync WM with EP, then.
Cheers mate, that fixed it, easiest way to do it.
I'll go a bit into detail in case anyone else is interested.
If you have a vcard with multiple contacts, read on:
Get the program gedik mentioned above.
Get the Pro version which is 30 days full trial, you'll only have to synchs but that will do.
After installing it, import the vcard file in it.
Then, if you have WinXP go here to get Active Synch CLICK and install it.
After installation is done connect your phone, it will install drivers then popup a dialog to synch stuff, you can skip the synch for now.
Now go to EPim and go to syncronise > synch with WM, and after a couple of dialogs you'll have to wait a bit and your contacts will be on your phone (note that it may take a while, and also note that the phone must be connected when you do this, otherwise the synch with WM will fail).
Now, if you want to edit your contacts easily, just go to Outlook/Contacts, and you can edit all you want, when you are done, go to ActiveSynch and select Synchronise and it will update your changes.
Enjoy
