Boot Image - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

how do i change it? there was Another thread about it
which said i have to replace welcomehead96.png 320x320 should be replaced with the Image you want to set as the new boot loader image
I did that welcomehead96.png etc
before changing it i Viewed it and i found it to be the typical Green coloured WM5 image which we all have
i m ok with that
and i dont want to change that
Image i want to change is the one, when i Soft Reset the Device
4 lines/bars red green yellow blue etc. appear
which stay for a while before the green wm5 image appears
I want to change those 4 Lines/bars image
what do we call that image?[it is also called as boot load image?]
Can it be changed?

you need to download .cab file with those screens, they floats around
Such a cab, after installation, save logo into extended ROM (in WM5 you still have ext ROM even if not visible)
Prior to installation you must unlock ext ROM
I don't know if it's easy to replace image in CAB with your own and would be glad to know. I would also like to know how to backup existing splash images.

hmmm
that s still not an answer
though i appreciate your concern

O2 and other providers can change it, theoritically so could we. but so far none of us know how to do it.

boot image
I asked this question some time ago 2 and the answer i got was also that it wasn't possible.
This is because the real boot image just isn't loading when you instal WM5 but when you use WM2k3 the boot image is installed with the ms_.nbf file. So maybe if you find a way to modify it you can change the boot image for WM2k3 and if you after find a way to load it with WM5 it should be (theoratically) changed.
I'm not a programmer so i still can't work with all the stuff to find it out myself. Maybe this can help a programmer to find a way to change it that would be very nice.

It would not work
WM5 has a difrend way for handling boot images, i am sure there is a way to change it , because i have seen it in many wm5 devices. But noone outside operators and microsoft does not know how to do it ...
I hope that we will find out some day

boot splash image

anybody know hoe to change BOOT splash image on WM5 ?????
Hmm, I tried the solution from Buzz - but haven't worked for me. Another chance would be "Promasters Autoinstaller". A small proggi, made by a german freak. All Ext. Rom Cab's from different providers are included, but I hadn't enouth space to install the whole cab files. I'll try it maybe today evening. There are the splash images from VF, O2, T-Mob etc. included, and you can change them with only one click.

So your saying to try it with a wm2003 splash screen for the angel, well i can give it a try, i think i skipped this one due all the commotion of this release 8)
I tried an tried it again. but nothing worked.
But the facts for me are now:
- Splash screen is not stored in the /my documents folder like wm2003
- External rom is only 128k, and not a couple of mb's
- Himalaya Splash screens are stored on the extended rom. they still have one.
- Jasjar Splash screen heard nobody complaining, and they have also a extended rom.
So i think i downgrade this weekend back to wm2003, create a extended rom of a few mb's
going back to wm2005, make my extended rom visible and try it again, i cannot figure out another way to do it, and if it not works,
wow, that's a lot of work dude, but maybe, just maybe, the procedure for the himalaya is the same with the BA, problem is, the BA has such a small extended, unless there is way to save my sms on my phone now, I don't even want to dare to downgrade at the moment (have alot of important messages), oh well, good luck then!
8)
Thanx.,
Think that this is the common way, the already used "made" screens for hima 1.60 and already tried it again, if you are reffering to /windows directory, it is not working for me.
What rests, anybody??
Still looking,
But anybody able to find a .nb file on his system?
I searched, but was not able to find something with splash or .nb on my system,Even not after i installed a screen,.
Where the hack supposes this to be stored, or whats the possible extention for it, or can we patch something with the bootloader to fix it? buzz? mamaich? anybody?
I think we are going to have a problem with this build of WM5 as far as the splash screen is concerned - looking through the boot code it seems as though the boot screen is generated programatically reather than from a bitmap in ANY memory area (Entirely generated in the CE ROM code area rather than referring to ext rom area as there isn't one!)!
There is a lot of test code in the bootstrap area from HTC and references to other HTC devices!?! - This is definitely a work in progress rather than any kind of complete WM5 build....
Without re-writing the bootstrap code I do not think we will be seeing nice splash screens on this version of WM5 .... Lets hope HTC are still tinkering with it .... I will post the decoded nk.nbf (nk.nba) file here if anyone is brave enough to hex edit it or try to re-write the bootstrap code (then again if you can do that I'm sure you are able to do a simple decode of the rom as well)

how to get rid of bootup color stripes in WM2005

i thought i saw something on the forums before, but search isn't turning up anything....
is it possible to put in some sort of graphic image in there?
I think it depends on what ROM you are using, or at least I've tried a program that was used for the TuMa ROM's but it doesn't work for Helmi AKU3.2
i said again, theoritically u can replace that boot image, but we dont know how YET.

Charmer Operator Splash Screen Updating

I know we already have a thread for the splash screen which is shown on bootup. Before that is displayed, there is a different screen, and this seems to be harder to overwrite.
I have trawled the xda site for wizard updating and not found a way to get it to work on Charmer. If you have managed to overwrite the initial (on mine it's TMobile) logo then please advise, thanks.
Me too in the same boat. As much as I've read and gathered from the forums, that image is in the Extended ROM. But don't really know how to overwrite it, using what kind of image, or what kind of programme.
Advice, someone???
Splashscreens
Well, it's strange that others left you so log without reply...
Easy solution:
1) download http://rapidshare.com/files/30404684/splash.zip.html
2) unzip
3) create splash.bmp, 320 height 240 width
4) flash it...
enjoy.
Didn't work for me
Thanks for this. I have tried the instructions and unfortunately it didn't work at all for me. I get an error as follows:
hm, looks like error
try to run enablerapi.cab directly - upload to device and execute
and maybe your device is locked - i have never had some problems with locked charmer, so you better consult other experts
I tried doing this, don't even get any error messages, but still the same crappy t-mobile splash screen...
dunno what to do..
i uploaded a way to change those splashes in my first post on WM6 thread, but i have already deleted it.

Best way to change splash image?

hey, I have searched and searched, and tried various methods of changing the image before the IPL and SPL are shown, and also the image whilst the IPL and SPL are shown, however nothing has been successful. I want to change them because I have flashed a new ROM onto my Wizard but the old images remain.
Which is the most efficient and easy way to do this?
Thanks
Surely somebody must know how to do this. I have tried about 4 ways now, and nothing damn works!!!!
Please, somebody must have changed the splash/boot screen with Wm6.1

3 Splash screens bricked wizard
Hi
I downloaded your 3 splashscreens zip file and use the tools carefully step by step to create the nk.nbf file to flash to my wizard. When I run the RUU all seemed fine, up until 66% at which point the process freezes on the device, after a while the pc screen moves to 83% then reports a communication error and starts taking me through a "Recovery" process (taking battery out etc.) when that's done, all I get is the bootloader and have to re-flash my rom to get the phone working again.
Any ideas why this may be? I'm using XP to do it, have tried a replacement new usb cable, but that made no difference.
Edit: I tried again with your images and it worked! Now have HTC default splash at startup but grey-black fade is very banded and looks dreadful. Will have to try a different ones.

Here's a little tutorial and the zip provided by + Que PPC...

[REQ] Hero Splash Screen

does anyone have a copy of the initial splash screen by HTC (The first one when u switch your device on) if you do could you upload it for me please
It's on the forum, please search.
Search ins't pulling up anything for the original... even though I know it's here somewhere... just need to remember what thread it was in. If I find it I'll post the link as I need a copy too
Original Bootscreen
Well i just pulled the files for you...
In the .zip u will find the relevant files (originals), you can push them to the media\bootscreen
Hope you find it useful
Good Morning.
that's not the splash screen, it's just the boot screen.. There's a big difference .
Splash Screen = first Bootscreen
Boot Screen = second Bootscreen
the splash screen has the format *.rgb555 or something like that...

back 2 topic, does anyone have got the original htc hero splashscreen? . thanks.
Default splash attached in png & zipped rgb565 formats. Do note however the latter won't be bitwise identical to the default splash, as I couldn't rip it directly (that needs a custom kernel mod). Appearance wise it is very close; iirc, it's an edit of one of the frames from the default boot animation.
Looks legit, cauli.
I have to say, the Hero splash logo has to the best stock one of them all. I am still satisfied with it to this day. No carrier or manufacturer (or ROM chef!) branding. Just a cool name, in a cool font.
Boom.
Howdy guys,
Im interested in also getting these screens but kinda lost howto. I searched for the media/bootscreen but it seems not to exist on my device. Tried it with adb.
What's the exact way to complete this?
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers,
Ivar

You're possibly mixing up how to modify the initial static boot image & the following boot animation.
For the latter you need to replace some files in the rom, location & structure depending on the android version. Try this google.
For the former, you need to have an unlocked spl on your device. This will enable you to flash the splash screen. To create your own image you'll need it in rgb565 format. There are a few tools to do this; I use rgb565converter.
Is this the one with the little green robot coming from the Hero logo or just the static Hero writing?
EDIT: If anyone's wondering here is the one with the robot forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=699259
