New phone, dumb questions - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

This is a dumb question I am sure...
I am getting a new phone from Cingular warranty since the touch screen stopped working on my current one. I am guessing I will get a new phone and swap in my SIM card. I am guessing they will send me a unit with 2.25 loaded on it.
I have been running summiters ROM (2.3) and really like it but I have a few questions...
1. Do I need to CID unlock the new phone or is this controlled by the SIM card? If I do, from what I have caught up with on the boards, I can no longer use Lokiwiz , so what do I do? I found a post from Faria http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=47848&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
that talks about downgrading, unlocking and then upgrading again but it seems to have mixed results.
2. Assuming that I solve #1 are there any challengers to Summitters 2.3 with CF2 + multiinstaller for folks on Cingular? I don't see any up.
3. Possible most important... Do I need to reflash my old phone to what it was shipped with or the official 2.25 so I don't have problems with the return. I am doing this all via mail so I wouldn't think they would check, but figured someone here had done this before.

As far as number one is concerned, you do have to CID unlock your new phone. The CID information is on the phone not the SIM card. Also, I didn't have any trouble downgrading from 2.25 in order to follow the directions in the post that you linked there. I had to do it when I had my phone's mainboard replaced.
For question number two, summiters AKU 2.3 ROM still seems to be the latest ROM out there for us Cingular folks.
Lastly, for number three, it couldn't hurt to flash back to an official ROM. I didn't have any problems when I had a summiter ROM on my phone when I sent it in for service (the USB port was broken so I couldn't reflash), however it's better to be safe than sorry ^_^

Thanks for the reply... should get it tomorrow and hopefully all will go well.

seems like everything has been answered, but i do want to add to question #3... I would flash back to an official rom, techinically according to the warranty process any rom that is not an official rom does void the warranty. So i would flash it back to an original rom before sending back. Im not saying they check, but i would hate to send back my phone with an un-official rom and get stuck with a $400 bill for a phone thats not in my possesion anymore...

Please Assist- Cingular 8125 and downgrade options(if any)

I have currently the following:
IPL 2.25
SPL 2.25
GSM 2.25.11
OS 2.25.11.1
I am a self proclaimed newb when it comes to cell phone mods, however i've started to research on this site and read a few of faria's and other people threads. I have come to the conclusion i'd like to test out summiters AKUv2.3 ROM, however from what im reading it seems since my phone is NOT CID locked i can not first downgrade to unlock the CID (needing what i believe is an <v2.21) to then flash the rom to his custome rom. although i also saw where someone said they used a cingular shipped rom to downgrade their phone, i believe my phone originally came with v1.18. my other option is to return this phone to the carrier and get another phone which would ship with the v.1.18 or whatever it was and then i can follow faria's thread..
am i correct? or is there the ability to downgrade with my current setup
Thank you, great site, loads of info
If your phone is CID locked (and it is CID locked by default unless you have unlocked it) upgrading to the 2.25 ROM has prevented you from using the free tools on this site to do the unlock.
If you want to CID unlock you will have to pay for the http://imei-check.co.uk service. It claims to do both a SIM and CID unlock and is currently the only known way to CID unlock ROMs that are version 2.21 and higher. If you wait, a free solution will no doubt come out but if you want it now, it's going to cost you £20/$40.
Once the Wizard is CID unlocked you can flash any Wizard ROM you choose to it.

You'll want to flash to the original shipping rom which is on the xda-dev ftp at:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/Cingular/Cingular_RUU_1.8.11.1.WWE.ship.exe
Once that's installed, use awizard or lokiwiz to CID unlock. And once that's done, flash to whichever ROM floats your boat.
Post back here if you run into any snags and can't resolve it reading through the existing messages.
Are you an AIX admin?
ahh yes im now finding on the ftp server
Cingular_RUU_1.8.11.1.WWE.ship.exe
yes linux/UNIX guru (AIX, FreeBSD, SUSE, etc) & phone noob, go figure..
im seeing conflicting statements here, 1 saying i can just downgrade to my shipped rom, the other saying i cant.
i received the phone yesterday, read up on some of the apps to try out, saw the new rom out, decided to try that out, did a soft reset on cingular extrom and then well have what i have, now i wanted to play a little more and test other peoples roms out and yet with no CID lock which would be the default i was under the impression i was SoL.. is that not correct? JUST to reverify with conflicting reports
after doing some more research i'm not sure which way is the accurate position, i read on one forum that there is a locking done once you go past the v2.21 rom so you cant downgrade to then Cid unlock, but then i've read other places you can, im downloading the v1.8.11.1 file and i guess ill find out soon enough

Try it, the worst that will happen is that you get an error saying that you can't flash an older Rom (than what is already installed).
well the update (downgrade to v1.8 shipped rom from 2.25) util is at 75% atm, .. will update accordingly....
ok well it ran the "downgrade" with no problems, i soft reset on the cingular apps, and when the system boots back up i get the following:
IPL = 1.08
SPL = 2.25
GSM = 1.09.11
OS = 1.8.11.1
so from what ive read on the forums i think it's a good thing i asked them to overnight me a new phone due to faulty reception (which is true it doesn't get the reception a buddies gets)..because i would assume with the SPL at > 2.25 i wouldnt be able to unlock the CID, correct?

Wanting to upgrade/improve MDA

I think my MDA really needs a ROM upgrade or update, but I don't know the first thing to do or how to do it. My ROM version is 1.8.10.2 WWE and I got the phone straight from TMobile. Does this mean I need do a special unlocking thing first or can I just flash 2.24 or whatnot on here? I think the 2.24 thread said the installer was self unlocking? I don't want to screw it up, but I want to make the phone work better.

To The Experts

Hello all....thank you for this great forum........I am a new user here and I have read many posts but didn't find the solution to my problem.....I hope You guys will help.....!!
I want to know.....how can I check that my phone is CID locked.......I have a G4 MDA.........and my phone is not SIM locked.........!!
One more qusetion....Is the wm5 AKU 3.3 rom safe for me......??
THANKS IN ADVANCE..........
no rom is safe. they all make you grow feathers and cluck like a chicken.
if you want your phone CID unlocked...just go through the steps to unlock it and if it's already unlocked then trying to unlock it again will do no harm (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284292)
concerning the AKU 3.3 ROM by Faria/Molski...no cooked ROM is 100% safe but this is as close as you're gonna get to it
*edit* this would probably best be posted in the G4 subforum though
Thankyou for answering but my question is still unanswered....
I just want to know.......Is there any way to check whether my phone is CID locked or not........
Simple rule: if you didn't unlock... it's CID-locked
I know only one way (not preffered). Flash a 3.x G4 rom with only an OS in it. If you're OS version doesn't change... you CID-locked.
there is no safe way to check your CID. You can try flashing your phone. If it went
(a) unsuccessfull OR
(b) brick your phone
it means your phone is CID locked.

Looking for any old TMobile ROMS

Hows it going guys this is my first post....ive had so many problems since switching to cingular with my tmobile MDA its hillarious!...i unlocked the MDA...got it too work with Cingular! I thought everything was perfect untill i realized i couldnt receive any text messages from any other carriers. Meaning if i used my cousins cingular phone to text my phone it would work....if i used my sprint phone...nothing would reach my phone...so i serched n applied all kind of cingular MMS GPRS settings .CAB files still nothing. If i put my SIM into an offical cingular phone the same thing happens...so now im hoping if i put the cingular rom on my phone it will make things better.. I need to downgrade first because every CID tool i use wont work but i found out its because i have 2.25 so basically does anyone have an old 1.XX offical T-Mobile ROM backed up anywhere or know how i can receive all text messages from all carriers?? Thanks
welcome...and in the future if you take a few minutes to read the stickies and wiki, you may very well get your answer.
the following link is to a sticky which links to button's 1.05 rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435
well thanks for the help but when i try installing that rom it locks up at 98% everytime and gives me an error....is this becaise of that CID thing is still locked????
Did you follow that tutorial step by step??? I had no problems with the button rom so I am not sure. I myself followed that tutorial when I recently unlocked my MDA and it went without a hitch...make sure you run lokiwiz twice and button twice. Not sure what else to tell you...sorry.

No, the Button rom is for the purpose of unlocking and is a really low IPL/SPL which was before the CID locking stuff was around.
I've read on another post that someone was having problems flashing the button rom like you are, and they were finally able to flash it by changing their radio rom first (I don't know if they had one of the newer radio's or what). Doesn't make sense to me as I've never seen that before, but what they heck, you could try downgrading to like the 2.19 T-Mo UK radio to see if that helps.
Also, have you tried flashing the T-Mobile 2.26 rom to your phone? Since this is an MDA and you are running Cingular 2.25 it sounds to me like you were already CID Unlocked (and you don't have to downgrade again to switch carrier roms, just switch).
It also is best to remove your sd card when doing the downgrading procedure.

reconstructed at&t tilt 2 stock shipped rom for warranty return or cooking

i have reconstructed the stock at&t tilt 2 stock rom - including 0.87 spl, 4.48 radio, splash screen, and 21849 os
this is created in old rom kitchen and can be used for cooking
the main reason i did this is to offer at&t users the factory rom for warranty return reasons.
the rom can be found here: http://mobilitydigest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2113
for those who need this here you go
Great, thanks for this.. do you have just the 4.48 Radio (NBH or EXE)? Thanks

That would be very much appreciated Herg.
I'm already HardSPL (security) unlocked as well as SIM unlocked. I assume if I load this I will remain SIM unlocked, but my SPL will be security locked again?
Thanks!
Thanks!!!!
Awesome job, Thanks so much. I usually don't flash a new device untill I have the stock ROM on hand but I couldn't wait. I knew someone would get this done for us.

if you secruity and hard spl unlocked your device than both will still be unlocked after you flash this rom as well
So does this also carry over the proper keyboard as well? So that if I flash this ROM, it's basically like it's the exact same as if I had just bought a brand new Tilt2?

this rom has everything in it that the stock rom that came on the device.
i didn't modify nothing, all i did was take the stock spl, stock radio, stock splash screen, and stock os and package it up
i didn't remove or add anything into it other than what came stock on the tilt 2
Thanks for all your hardwork.
If I restored to this ROM and then want to use a custom ROM later would I have to do the whole hardSPL thing again?
Great work Herg! This is exactly what many of us needed.
i needed it as well and since the actual rom wasn't released something needed to be done.....da_g gave some of the important files like radio, and spl so lets not forget him cause this was a joint effort to build

That's actually one of the open questions on some of the other threads. Someone had to flash his back for a warranty return and reported that the SPL did not change back to 0.87 as expected. I've got an open request/PM with cmonex as they were going to try and post a properly signed 0.87 SPL only for warranty restoration but it looks as if they haven't gotten around to it yet...
BUT to answer the question, I believe that once you restore the SPL to a warranty version (be it 0.84 or 0.87) I think you do have to run HardSPL again if you want to put cooked ROMs on the phone.
herg, da_G, or others -- do you know if there was a specific way to restore the SPL using this image since it's packed in? I thought I remember someone saying that they tried the following sequence on an older phone (not sure if it would work on the Tilt2 since it does involve going to a previous stock SPL):
1. Flash the warranty ROM to the phone (i.e. the one herg posted)
2. Flash one of the other warranty SPLs (maybe 0.84?)
3. Flash the same ROM in #1 one more time (then the SPL should be correct)
Again, as I mentioned, I am not sure if it will work since after step #2, technically you would be off of the HardSPL and I am not sure if you would be able to flash again in step #3 since the ROM is not an official ATT signed one.
even though this is a reconstructed stock rom......it is treated like a cooked rom
the only difference is this contains all the pieces to create it (spl, radio, splash, and os)

So this means that the 3 step process I just posted above probably won't work, since after step #2 you would not be able to reflash the ROM since it is technically a cooked one as well.
Herg, Been following your work here and on Mobility Digest, I've been waiting for a stock rom before I flash my T2. Have you had any luck on the 4.48.25.20 radio (exe or nbh) yet. I'd like to try one of the other radios but want the stock one too.
Yeah, the SPL needs to be signed in order to be flashable. Either signed with the olinex cert to flash against the HSPL, or signed with the HTC cert to flash against the stock SPL.
I could upload the full .nbh of the test ROM, it would be signed with the HTC certs and may be accepted by the stock SPL (but it might be signed with a seperate test cert, too)
Wish I had gotten the stock ROM by now, but it's proving to be elusive
I want to return my phone to ATT not for the warranty reasons but because i am getting a better deal at some other retailer. so can i use this rom for the same purpose ?
