I repeteadly experience this problem:
sometimes in my XDAIIi, no matter if receiving or making calls, my voice/sound cannot be heard, by the other party. Nor I can hear his/her voice/sound. Phone call ringing is Ok.
This problem appears 20% 30% of times.
When the battery is below 25% this problem appears 90% of times!
I made hard reset...no improvement.
I disabled smart diallings option : no improvement
I am running:
ROM 1.11.00 WWE
Radio 1.04.00
ExtROM 1.11.162
Please help
Saulo866
one more hint: it seems that the problem (phone muted) is solved if, after a hard reset, when the message appears "in 3 secs device will restart" I do a soft reset, with the stylus
In this way I prevent the extRom to be loaded.
In fact now my XDA IIi shows as:
ROM 1.11.00 WWE
Radio 1.04.00
ExtROM < blank>
What shall I think? That the ExtROM 1.11.162 is the culprit?
If so, can someone provide me the CAB for MMS (now Multimedia SMS disappear) so I can install them separately?
What other CRITICAL cabs are now missing?
3. Since extROM is not installed, is there a way to use this storage? How?
Thanks and waiting
Saulo866
I have gotten the same problem since this afternoon, but what you tried didn't work for me
Hope to find the solution for this problem (maybe update the rom), do you have any news?
I think that those cab's you're looking for are in the hidden rom...
Xanh
the problem was solved, I did my headset in and changed the volume while pulling it out and heard sound again...

After upgrading to 1.40, connecting to GPRS is hit or miss. When the problem occures it is normaly after the GPRS connection has been disconnected for a while, then when connecting again, I get the error "Cannot Connect". The only way out of this is to soft reset or turn ON then OFF "flight mode" (restart radio). The real problem in troubleshooting this issue is, I can not make it happen on a consistant basis, in fact, I can not duplicate it at all (it happens when it wants to). If you also have this issue, please offer any info you have on WHEN it happens or sequence of events that makes it happen.
Problem: "Cannot Connect" error when connecting to GPRS (all connection settings are correct).
When: ?????
Work around: restart radio
Note: This is not the same problem as "red phone button disconnects GPRS" ("Flags2") as discussed in http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=21972&sid=ff63b7f3db5fceffff1cd54fe61ffd27
the same for me!!
don't know why!!!
Does it seem to happen after a couple of hours after a soft reset?
Also, I have noticed turning flight mode ON then OFF only works for the next connection, after that I get the "Cannot Connect" error. A soft reset may work for several connect/disconnect cycles before it craps out.
Please post when it happens for you.
Got the same for a while now. Started to occur indeed after installing 1.40. My use is quite simple: an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening; in the evening it won't connect; soft reset and the thing goes again.
Did not found a woraround yet but will keep trying and share it with you if so.
XdaIIi - Cannot Connect GPRS
My XdaIIi is also giving the same problem. Turning Flight mode on/off gives some relief; buy only temporary. Compared to soft rest, this is far better. Why O2 is not providing any solution.

This seems to be the fix!!!!

I posted this before, I had the same problem with GPRS not reconnecting. Now i am able to use GPRS without any problem. My solution was to downgrade my caller id version to 1.20 build 17957. When i first upgraded to AKU_RC 20 was when i first had the problem, tried the later version RC21 and still didnt work. I tried this several times, only the caller id version being changed produced the problem. Try that and see if it works for you

Thanks to efjay!!!!!!!!!!!
What is the best way to update the Caller_ID cab? When I update, it tells me that it is available in ROM. Can it be done without doing a hard reset i.e. re-installing all over again?
You have to move the following files from \windows directory to a temporary location before installing the cab.
CallerID.dll
DisplayCID.dll
IA_CID_StartUp.exe
IA_CID_StartUp.lnk (From /windows/startup)
IACIDSync.dll
iacontacts.dll
After re-installation, change all the dll files in the temporary location to txt file. Softreset. You can then delete these files in temporary location.
Hope this help.
Chris,
I tried what you suggested but I still get the message re file windows/ai???.dll is in ROM. I do not have any of these dlls in the windows directory or at startup.
Please let me know if you have other ideas. Thanks.
SK
You have to use gsfinder or resco explorer to see all system files.
Anybody else try this or the people who did it before today, Is it still working? I have the same issue. I just applied this fix, but it is too early to tell if it did anything...
thanks for the replies
It worked for me! Thanks very much to everybody who helped to discover and post this fix. It saved me from having to downgrade my entire rom, because I was cheesed off with having to do flight mode off/on every time I wanted to connect to the internet via cellular line, which I do often, because I've got an old Genie SIM with free WAP (not GPRS).
I found the instructions easy to follow, and I didn't even need to use gsfinder or resco explorer - I just set File Explorer to Show All Files.
Cheers,
John

This fix has worked great for me (xda IIi ROM 1.11.00 Radio 1.00.00 ExtROM 1.11.923). When prompted that certain files are in ROM or in use, simply changing the file name of the files in question did the trick. For the first time in a very long time of using the XDA II and now the XDA IIi, I can reconnect to GPRS without a hitch.
Same Problem Here. I am going to try the Fix now
Moving to caller id version to 1.20 build 17957 worked great for me. No more GPRS cut outs at all.
Working Good Here. even the Wifi reconnects very very Nice THank you
Problem solved!!, This upgrade works great, thanks!!!
Hi, I’m one of your “old anonymous readers”, but I think that now comes my time, finally (wow) I have a problem
After upgrading my radio from 1.02 to 1.04 (I’m not sure that this could be the real reason of my issue) I’ve noticed that I cannot receive any SMS’s, I am able to send but there is no sign of the received ones…However the sender receives the note that everything vent all right, it is very embarrassing, since they can think that I am …at least impolite…
Please help, I don't really want a hard reset
By the way: my thanks goes to Pug for his “masterpieces” in upgrading

Same here. :x
Have had that problem, got a new device, everything OK until I synchronized!
First I though that it's a problem with the provider but the provider tells me, they get an SMS received message on their system, so everything seems to be in order on their side.
Are there any settings in active sync that I could have messed up?
Greets
hunzikerco
Something new:
I noticed that in case an SMS is “received” by my PPC, a new file appears in the windows folder (MsgQueueDataFileMicrosoft Text SMS Protocol, about 2,7 MBs) and the only thing what the device does is that it switches on…without any notification regarding the incoming SMS…
Pls. help
hmmm...seem like im having same problem with sms..... will try to find the solution soon.....
Finally some good news…khm…I was referring only to the last part of your sentence
You know, this situation is very strange, because this is the second time when appeared in a good, working system, without having installed or de-installed any application.
Appeared just like that, a few hours ago I received SMS’s and than, like a damn, the “ability” of receiving them just vanished…
So, my fear is, that leaving the problem unsolved, although I hard-reset, reinstall everything, the problem can appear in the future suddenly as well.
An other strange think is, that I had made a complete sprite backup from the totally working system (functional SMS, MMS, connections, so on…) much before this damned situation, I try to be far-seeing  , and now, AFTER a hard reset, rebuild my system from that backup, the problem is the same. NO SMS…exhausting
Anyway, now I am a little bit relaxed  knowing that someone experienced is handling this problem. Hope that you’ll find the answer, I couldn’t

Hi,
Don't know whether this gets you on the right track, but my magician has the same probs when I put back a restore with sprite & this restore includes sms, e-mail etc. settings & data. When I leave out the sms & e-mail stuff everything works just fine. Though I manually have to recreate the e-mail settings ofcourse. Looks like something gets out-of-sync, maybe you have to clear some databases as well to get it all 'empty' and working again.
As the first post mentioned doing an upgrade before noticing the prob. you might have the same issue.
Regards, M
Thanx, I'll give it a try.

that's all my friend...

and...is this good or bad ?
Some news:
I think that someone out there heard my prayers and what a miracle… the SMS receiving works now (I don’t know for how long…). BUT since that, my BT headset is unusable (I can connect it, I hear the incoming call signal, but after receiving the call or initiating a call, I hear only some noises…). To be honest I’m happy with the SMS, about the headset…till I can use the built-in speakerphone, the problem doesn’t really bother me …
The only thing I had done before this “miracle” just happened is that I uninstalled the Sprite Backup (v.2.14) and reinstalled the latest one (I think 3.14). I don’t suppose that this was the “help”, I think it’s only a strange coincidence…
But I learned something from this, Scully: “THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE…”
Hmmm,
I'm not so sure that Sprite 2.1.4 was NOT the cause of your problems. When I restore my mail, sms etc with that specific version I cannot receive any e-mail or sms. Sending remains possible .
Cheers, M
only some SMS received
I seem to have the same problem - but can not put it down to any application installed or even restoring from backup - happens on a virgin XDA 2i after hard reset -
i even upgraded to latest (o2) rom 1.11.162 WWE (no change in symptom)
Rom 1.11.00 WWE
Radio 1.00.00
Problem is getting worse - (I receive about half of my SMS) - testing showed that on trying to receive an SMS the XDA switches on and then looses the network and starts looking - when the network is aquired again there is no notification of a new SMS and it is also not received.
Any help????
@Irishfella:
Just sit back and relax, the problem will be solved by it self…Sorry I was just kidding (although I know that now, you are not in such kind of mood).
As you’ve perhaps read through my posts I had the same problem and for the moment – touch wood – has been solved. I swear I have no idea how…
If you’ll figure out something please let us know. Good luck!
Of course if I'll find out something, I'll post it here.
sadly it has not (gone away that is)
@seatone
I think I can pin point it to a weak reception (see my other post) and thought a radio upgrade might fix - but on reading back this entry I see that you are on 1.04 - so that seems to be a dead end.
(sending works fine by the way)
did you (or anybody else) do any further troubleshooting on this?
Does anyone found the solution to this problem? In the past two weeks, I have just notice that I had the same problem. The SMS messages are definitely received by the phone, my inbox say I have "Text Message 0 Items, 5 unread", but no text is shown at all. And if I create messages and then save it in drafts, it said I have 1 draft but again, nothing is shown under drafts.

For the record, that's the O2 Active UI loader.
Problem solved.
This link http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj/Unread.html shows you how to remove the unread message are reset the Inbox. Works for me and I hope it does the tricks to others as well.
Great tip, no need for it today, but stored for future use.
Thanks, M
Lost all my data because I didn't use my xdaIIi for awhile and forgot to charge it.
A restart from scratch plus a restore later, I now find that incoming calls result in the ringtone stuttering like being buffered kind of. Rings then stops to catch up for about a sec then rings again, stops, rings etc etc. Playing the MP3 track results in normal playback, only when being used as a ringtone does it stutter.
Have tried a few restores plus puttng the cpu on turbo but its still happening. Unfortunately the pc my back up/restore is on has now also died so cannot do another restore. Also noted on the restore that some dll files were not loaded and despite doing a couple of restores after that they still would not load and the stuttering still continues. Everything else seems to be working fine.
Wondered if anyone has any ideas to recity the ringtone problem?
Thanks in advance.

Please help!
I have a Cingular SX66 that all of a sudden the major phone functions just quit.
Wheb I dial out it appears to be dialing out, shows a connection and connect time, singal strength is good but I can not hear the person on the other end nor can they hear me talking. On incoming calls, the phone rings yet again the same problem a mute connection. (mute is off). Everything else functions properly
If anyone could please help me I would greatly appreciate it.

try reflashing with a different ROM to see if it fixes it
I will try that, since the BA upgrade list does not show one specificto the Cingular SX66 is there one you would suggest?
Thanks Alan
this happened to me too just today.... i thought i got something broken inside so i disassembled my BA using the guide on wiki.. reheated all the ic's (insane) and then reassemble it... but nothin happens... nada..
one thing i noticed is when i reboot, sometime i see my version nmber on my radio... but sometimes i see is none..
R : none
G : none
B : 5.04.09 wwe
please help
Sometimes that happen with the BA and wm5 (r: none...). The solution is to soft reset it.
About the "can't hear" thing, did you install any new program and then the problem begun?
been investigating this.... it turned out to be a hardware fault.. my charger kind pulled out the thingie inside and i just cleaned it and do things with it..
i dont know jack about all the things inside (as you can see bout my post) but its working now have to test it again and again though...
Thanks Matthew,
I did try reflashing. 1st time with the official siemens rom upgrade and the 1.15 radio rom and it worked for a few calls then then quit so I reflashed with the 1.12 radio rom and it did the same thing - worked for a few calls and quit. It's like it goes into a mute function-cant hear ,cant talk. Yet every other function of the phone works and it shows good signal strength. The phone only has 92 incoming & 50 outgoing hours on it
Thanks for all the help from everyone , this is driving me crazy!!
I'll keep working on it
Hello
I noticed a really wired behavior of my Vario III/ Kaiser since a few months now.
It loses randomly and not reproducable the GSM Service Connection but doesn´t tell me that it does. So it shows the normal signal-strength icon and I´m not able to notice the lost.
The only way to make it working again is to re-enable the "Phone/Flight Mode" with the Comm Manager.
I did a few ROM Flashings and also tried different Radio-Roms, hoping the problem would disappear.
Well, it didn´t. So I searched the forum here but didn´t get a helpfull thread neither a solution.
My Data:
T-Mobile Germany
ROM: ahmedfikry wm6.5 23563 Tilt UC light rom
RADIO: 1.71.09.01
Same problem with these ROMs and Radios:
1.71.09.01
1.70.19.09
1.65.16.25
Kaiser_28004_V0.9_GER_ChrBeck
TPC_V11_KAISER_CHUMP_STYLE
Maybe some of you can give an advice or better a solution. It´s anoying not knowing wether you are reachable right now or not. And it just produces problems when your girlfriend sends texts, they can´t be delivered and you come late....again
Hard-SPL should be 3.29 or 3.56
