programs\extras - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Is it possible to move all the stuffs from the extras folder to a cab file? I personally dont need any of them, and it just takes up free space.

why
I cant agree with you. Its just about some MB and it cant help u in any way, go buy SD card 1GB and problems with space disappear.

Thanks i have 2gb sd. It takes up rom space mate. It doesnt help in anything, for me the entire content is unusable. Was only an idea.

So why u need ROM space? Still dont understand why u want to remove something when u dont need it just remove the shortcut
I never used any program from extra but i can...sometimes...

Can I install games on sd card?

I have couple games for ppc but I want to install them on the micro sd card and play on the Wing. Can I do that? Will doing that corrupt the file on the sd card in the long run?
yes, you can.
they can only cause boot loop if it overwrites a neccessary windows driver..which it will probably not..
the probability of storage card or file corruption.. well you are dealing with windows and with blocks of memory...so it's always a possibility... no matter how great of an os windows is... it's still annoyingly stupid at times, hehe.
of course.. some games don't work properly from the sd card.. usually they automatically look for local windows files needed and they can't find them.. because they look for storage card/windows... oops.. so some games do have to be installed on the ppc itself.

Every game that I have ever installed, I've put on my storage card and had no problems. You should be fine with just about anything.

and then you have to create a short cut for the game in the "start up menu" folder right?

Oh I see, so you copy the cab file to the sd and run it from there.

One more thing, this is not relate to subject but here is a thought.
I remember reading the cookers said that there is certain size limit requirement when they cook a rom and that's why they can't remove a lot of stuffs.
Here is my thought, why don't they just remove stuffs that they want. Then let say the size limit for a rom is 50 MB and now they have 45 MB. Can they just create a "junk" folder and put some junk files/pictures in that folder to bring the size of their rom to the limit. After people flash their rom, they can just delete the "junk" folder? Then we can have a clean rom with less amount of storage.

I seen on another thread dat u can take it out without having that problem
Also wen I do it is it supposed 2 show as secondary memory or just internal memory?
Think about it... apps to sd, apps on sd, run app with no sd card = no app to run. The extX partition will show as secondary if the rom supports that screen, yes.
ok heres a quicc question...
on the storage part.. can i remove the apks from the download folder (say if i downloaded from the web) since everything is stored in the partition.. can i remove from /sdcard/donloads/apps4mweb...or do i have to keep em in ther for the apps to run?

[Q] Droid 3 Internal SD Card to External SD Card swap

Anybody know how to do this? I found a solution for other devices, but not Droid 3. I need this pretty bad because my internal memory is getting full (11gb) and it doesn't save anything but media crap on external sd card (32gb) I need to save apps in ext card too..
Anybody interested?

Connect the device to the computer, transfer files to the external SD card (leave the folders alone). Done.
Or you can use Root Explorer and transfer the files...

Thanks for the reply, but I thibk you misunderstood me.
What I meant was that I would like to switch my External SD Card to Internal.
Since the phone saves everything (like apps) in the internal memory (except media files)
I want to use my full 32 gb sd card as internal mem instead.
I hope I explained clearer this time
You have to edit the mounting points in /system/etc/vold.fstab
I've done this on previous devices, but haven't done it on my D3, so I don't know if it will break anything, so do a nandroid before changing anything.
Do you happen to know how? Thanks.
Sorry. I want to keep this alive.
Check out this post from the CM9 thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21032236 . I am not sure if it can be used exactly as is for a Gingerbread setup, but it should at least give you a good starting point for what you need to edit in order to make it work for you. I know this was already mentioned, but MAKE SURE you have a nandroid backup and to be really safe make sure your phone is charged more than 50% in case you wind up having to do an SBF. If you were not aware, you can't program this phone when the battery is below 50% and it won't charge unless it can boot, so you can see the problem you will encounter if you brick your phone with a low battery.

He is trying to permanently swap the internal and external SD cards so that his 32Gb external is used as the primary storage and to accomplish this he will have to edit a few files in system. The link I provided earlier should get him the info he needs to do this.

[Q] Changing default path for installation apps

Hello guys,
I'm sorry if this was a repeated question.
But i was wondering how we can change our default installation path on galaxy note?
Because the problem is everytime i download something from google play, its installed in the phone memory which is only around 1,5Gb
What's the use of 11Gb that we had on usb storage then? Can we somehow change the default path to usb storage?
And i don't want to use external SD card. I think that's all, thanks guys! Waiting for your respons!

11gb internal storage is called sd card. App2sd is what you need.

I've tried that and it refers to the original function of move to sd card from the application settings. And it didn't work it says couldn't move not enough storage space and its because i dont have any sd card insert.
Therefore 11Gb usb storage only useful for extended game data and photo or music?

Using App2SD you can only move some part of an app to the 11GB (called as SD card or internal SD) memory..also, you cant move each & every app, since some apps needs to be on the Phone memory (memory which shows ~2GB)..I am using App2SD to reduce the load on Phone memory..it wl b useful for apps/games, especially which r bigger in size..what I believe is the more you keep the Phone memory free, the more faster your phone will be..

That's an explanation i need.. Well i guess i just go buy an external sd card then move my apps in there. The 11Gb will only used for pictures and music then *sigh* thanks anyway mate!

its better cuz it seems like moving huge files to-from the internal storage sometimes* results in a brick

Thats a better option..buy a 32GB memory card & move all the stuffs like movies, music, photos, docs etc etc etc to it..use 2GB+11GB (in built memory) only for apps, games & their data..
Even 64GB card works on our Note, as per the below thread:

I know this is a very late reply sorry
but i wonder you were talking about moving apps 2 sd
However, i moved all apps that are movable, i have no pics, videos, music or whatsoever . Yet, the internal storage gets full very fast to extend that i can't update apps anymore
I hope during the last 4 years someone figured out a solution
my phone has a custom lollipop rom and its rooted

Its really simple ,1st you flash this recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=18061 , then you https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24499762635999029 install this trought this new installed recovery , and you now have 6gb memory for installing apps, and 7gb on sdcard0
data=6gb (means +4gb for apps)
sdcard0=~7gb (means -4gb from the stock size)

Of internal storage? I doubt that. Out of the box this phone has only got 4GB total internal and only like 1GB of internal--give or take--is actually usable.
I have 8gb version. Internal storage free 2.5 gb
